Great coffee, gorgeous cafe, great ambiance, great staff, went during my Book clubs silent reading hour. LOVE that it's indoor outdoor with a giant garage door open. Keep that in mind if it's a chilly day not sure how often it's closed vs open. Cappuccino was delicious and perfectly frothy Didn't get a chance to try the food since they were selling out of the snack I had my eye on (was a very busy event so definitely no shade on the cafe).
I got an affogato and it was so delicious the flavor of the espresso was bold but not overpowering. That combined with the ice cream was perfect for a warm Portland day. The service was friendly and the coffee came out quickly and they delivered it right to the table which was nice. The ambiance is great inside the cafe, more than enough seating and nice comfortable seats.
Super cute café with a woody plant aesthetic, and plenty of seating in a big open space. I got a matcha latte with oat milk which reasonably priced at $5 and unsweetened (this should be the default!!), though a bit on the milky side. Great spot to hang out, but the wifi was pretty slow when I was planning to work. I'd come back to try their coffee + food!
Once inside some Hawaiian feel ambience jumps right in front of you. On top of the Hawaiian feeling, a bit of a modern Tiki bar ambience is seen a little mixed in. And the background music is an absolute match to the overall all atmospheric vibe. Well done; the first impression is always a must to achieve to appease. The young lady at the bar is/was the epitome of the best customer oriented service worker. The moment I stepped in, she, with the sweetest voice, welcomed me. This instantaneously broke the ice. After walking in the chilly morning in downtown Portland, this was a much needed ice breaker to warm me up to the center of my body. "What brought you in?" "How did you hear about us" to strike a friendly conversation with me followed. She then walked me through the menu a little bit but she let me take my time to peruse it on my own. I didn't feel pressured into deciding at all. My eyes caught "Espresso Boosted Dirty Chai/Matcha". When I said that alouy, she explained that it's on the sweeter side but she then said that said sweetened could easily be tailored to match my tastes/needs. I didn't hesitate for asking her to incorporate my likings into it: decrease the sweetness down to 1/3. She pleasantly received it. While paying, she continued to carry on a conversation with me to get to know me (I told her I was visiting Portland for a day from Denver. She then elaborated that she'd be visiting Denver next week for the first time. What a coincidence!) She said to take a seat where she'd bring my Espresso Boosted Dirty Chai to my table. What a kind gesture. My chai was, first of all, beautifully made in a large cup on a matching coaster. When I took my first sip, oh boy, it immediately hit the spot. Just the right amount of sweetness as I asked for; the barista perfected it although like a piece of cake (she later came to me and asked how the sweetness was to which I said it was simply perfect. She gave me her sweet "yay" and off she went back to the bar.) So in conclusion, ambience checked, service checked, quality checked. What else should I say to give this place better accolades to elevate it? Nothing!! What a wonderful place! If this place was in Denver, I would frequent it. PS - this place serves alcohol. The selection of cocktails is quite the size!

The cashier/barista was nice but I feel like she was more on the serious side not really social so that kinda threw the whole vibe off. When I left the shop there was a breeze and I noticed a strand of hair stuck between the lid and the cup. I took a picture of what was left since I was pulling the big part of the hair out.
my partner and i came here on valentines day because of their special menu ! we both got red velvet lattes which were so delicious and layered so nicely. we especially loved the cream cheese cold foam. the interior was so cute with huge plants and selenite towers, and our barista was so cutesy and kind !
Got here when they open at 7 AM. Friendly and welcoming staff. The interior is nice and aesthetically appealing. I got the iced dirty Matcha which was not as tasty as I would like. It did have a gritty, powder, bitter taste. Something I would probably not get again. The cappuccino was decent. Although I did enjoy the toasted croissant.
Firstly, the food was well worth the wait. Everything came out piping hot - the cheese pulls were insane! The bakery desserts (coffee cake muffin and cinnamon rolls) were warmed up too. I am still thinking about the mashed potato and cheese arepa, as well as the vegetable empanada. All the arepas and empanadas were delicious though and I would love try them all again next time. I love how they all came with a side of plaintain chips and some amazing salsa. The drinks were great too! My friend said this was probably the best chai latte they had in town. I docked a star because when we walked in at 11am there was a DJ blasting music that felt a bit too loud for the morning (and for a cafe setting in general) lol - maybe it was a special event. It was 90% empty but our drinks and food still took a while to come out than expected, but it's not a huge deal since it was all so good! The workers were really friendly.
Such a cozy and welcoming spot! The atmosphere at this café is perfect for relaxing or getting some work done. The staff were super friendly, and the overall vibe was chill and inviting. We tried the affogato (espresso poured over vanilla ice cream) it was rich, creamy, and had just the right balance of sweetness and espresso kick. The iced matcha latte was refreshing with a nice earthy bitterness. We also had the London Fog cookie, which was tasty, though a bit heavy on the icing for our taste. Overall, a great experience and we'll definitely be coming back!
This is a very aesthetic cafe with tropical vibes and an open-air concept. I wanted to try the viral $5 matcha, but came around 1pm, and they were unfortunately out of matcha for the day. I ordered an iced jasmine tea, which was light and refreshing, but a little watered down. There is a lot of seating inside and some outlets as well, making it a good work or study spot. If you're looking to try the matcha, try to go earlier rather than later!
Matta brings a taste of Colombian coffee to PDX. This was my first time, and I got to say my latte was full of super rich and delicious flavors. Walking in, I heard more Spanish being spoken than I've heard in years. Its great to see latinos supporting this business. Friendly staff, spacious seating, street parking (Located on N Flanders). Come. You won't be disappointed.

I ordered a mocha, which was generously sized but leaned on the sweeter side and could have been served hotter. What lingers with me is curiosity about its evening vibe. The space feels intentionally designed to transform, leaving me wondering how its charm shifts once the café crowd fades and the bar energy takes over. It is definitely worth a return visit to experience both sides.
Matta is located on the quieter side of the Pearl District, near the Flanders walking bridge. Because it's a bit tucked away, the cafe does not feel crowded, which makes it a great spot to relax. I visited during the daytime cafehours. The background jazz music was excellent and played at a comfortable volume, not too loud. I ordered an espresso boosted matcha and really enjoyed it. The drinks are a little on the pricey side, but considering the columbian specialty bean, size of the drink and also spacious seats, it felt fine. The interior has a natural, green vibe that makes the space feel calm and inviting. The bartender was very sweet and welcoming. The same location changes to a weekend bar in the evening called Secret Grove, where I have not been. Would love to check it out too. read more
Drinks are good and as expected. The croissants they cater from are really good. Large and spacious. Room for larger parties. Indoor and outdoor seatings. WiFi available! Furniture is more run down than expected. Needs better cleaning. Maybe because this is a bar at night. Street parking in NW Portland. Unfortunately the area outside smells like pee. read more

as i walked in i was immediately in love with matta. the space looks fantastic. i had a yummy iced cinnamon chai with apple cider cold foam, and it was as delicious as it sounds. our pastries were good too. i'll definitely go back next time im in town! read more

Omg this coffee shop is actually perfect. It's got that open-concept, super aesthetic vibe but still manages to be so cozy?? Like usually, cafés either look good or feel good, but this place nailed both. Also, the prices?? I was fully expecting to drop $9 on my matcha like usual, but when they said $5 for an iced strawberry matcha, I almost gasped. And it so GOOD. I was lowkey scared it'd be mid, but no this was top-tier, almost as good as the one from komeya no bento in SF. Obsessed. 10/10, would recommend. read more
My first thoughts as I walked in, was what a beautifully done space. The interiors are amazing with plants and wooden hues taking Centre stage. The space is huge and there is plenty of seating. We were the only ones in at the time and so got immediately attended to. The staff was sweet and very welcoming. I got a cappuccino and my husband got a macchiato. Both drinks were very well made. There are plenty of options in the form of drip, espresso, cold brew, and pour over. There were a few baked goods and other food items on the menu. We picked a coffee cake muffin which was as good as our beverages. The space include seating designed to be communal and adaptable to both the coffee shop and cocktail bar concepts and it did feel very inviting and we ended up getting another cup and spending more time. The jungle-inspired ambiance and sustainable coffee from their family farm in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is truly a unique Portland experience for sure ! read more

This is a new spot, and at least this week they have events for free every evening (check their website for updates) - tonight it's a pretty vibe DJ. I pretty much try to stick to open air or very well ventilated situations so I love the open garage doors even in the evening. By day a coffee bar and by night, well, a coffee - themed drinks bar )along with many other usual drinks). Small bites in the evening menu like empanadas and arepas. Enjoyed a margarita negra (has coffee liquor, and bartender added some takin on the rim); quite delicious. Bonus: the coffee themed cocktails are $10 during happy hour, 5-8 pm. Nice! Great airy spot, really gorgeous, hope to come back soon and do a little writing in this spot! read more
New Pearl District Café by day - Matta Colombian coffee rocks! Cocktail and beer lounge by night with DJ music - good times "party-on!"! Cool layout! Industro-contemporary design and decor for a convivial meet up with sus amigos y amigas (friends). Feel that Columbian vibe. See it for real in the coffee and plantain banana trees direct from Columbia in planters as you walk through the huge roll up door from the sidewalk. Very interesting! Coffee is light roasted, well balanced flavor (acidity to sweetness) that I tasted in a cup of Americano. Owner's father grows single origin cherries harvested, then roasted reflecting the rich, robust and fruity body in the soil of Santa Marta, Sierra Nevada mountains of Columbia - where coffee has been cultivated for centuries. Great coffee starts with pristine Sierra Nevada soil and plants cared for by a conscientious farmer deploying sustainable and organic practices with no pesticides. Thus, this coffee is more healthier! And Health Advocates say coffee is good health insurance against "type 2 diabetes, heart disease, liver and endometrial cancers, Parkinson's disease, and depression!" Wow! "Gimmedat!!!!!I' And I'm liking the taste and buzz in the Matta Columbian "cup of joe" buzzzzzz me! Delish empanadas scratch made daily from a sourced food truck and pastries on the menu - that are scrumptious! Knowledgeable and friendly service with a smile - shout out Kelsey! Go girl! Latte was good, coffee cake muffin was too suffocating for me and the vein of cinnamon (I think) left the center still cold, chocolate cookie was fantastic. Pastry prices were reasonable but Jebus, 8 dollars for a latte?!?!? Thank goodness we had a coupon to make it a more reasonable cost but unfortunately wont be going back if needing to pay full price with so many other good latte places around for less. read more

Food options are limited, but good. My first time eating arepa. The Aji (like salsa) was incredible! Sorry i bit into it before I took a picture.. Coffee ismore than good, very smooth. The atmosphere is great! There is some parking on the street in front. The server was very kind, but there was only one, so customers had a short wait. Not much of a wait, worth it though. read more

Had a beautiful time here! The barista was very kind and even offered to bring my coffee out to me which I thought was exceedingly kind. I had the cappuccino with oat milk which I thought was absolutely delicious! Enjoy this space while it's new- I sat outside and everyone kept stopping in and saying " I saw this place on TikTok!!" Unsure if they are dog friendly but I did see one well behaved dog sitting inside! read more
This place has been on my list since they opened, and I finally got to go! For me, the best part of having coffee is enjoying it in a beautiful, elegant space, and this spot nailed it. They offer a great selection of coffee, some options are basic, but they're all quite good. One thing to note is that their syrups aren't house-made, and they use Oregon Chai, which is on the sweeter side. I mention this because chai is a popular drink, and some might prefer it less sweet. This is a fantastic spot to relax, hang out, and maybe snap some Instagram shots or videos. They also host brunches and evening events with another company. The staff was great--they recommended a fantastic coffee choice, and my drink was amazing! Personally, I like my chai on the sweeter side, so it was perfect for me. Extremely disappointed in the reality of this place. Yes the decor is great, very green and welcoming. The coffee was good but the food was terrible. The cinnamon roll was so hard the plastic forks and knifes couldn't even cut into it. The brownie was so also hard, the empanadas were the only things that were semi warm, they were okay. The banana chips are stale. Oh and the Pan de Bono super hard and cold. So hard I couldn't even eat it, the empanadas are just re-heated everything else is cold. Definitely open to trying new places unfortunately this was a first and last. read more

This tiny cafe in pearl district was small, intimate and interesting! Food service takes a while because they warm up food in a convection oven. Loved the veggie empanada because of the spices and flavor! Cheese empanada and arepa needed the sauce for flavor. read more

Newer coffee shop/café in Portland with a relaxed, bohemian vibe. The space is open and airy with lots of tropical plants. Garage door opens to outdoor seating. Workers there were very pleasant. Coffee was delicious! I had a honey oat milk latte (they use Pacific brand oat milk). Food options include items such as fresh made pastries, empanadas, arepas, and plantain chips. Personally, I had the mashed potato and cheese empanada, which came with plantain chips and a small salsa. My friend had strawberry rhubarb croissant. Everything was great and fresh tasting! The Colombian food comes from a local business, El Pilón. All of their (El Pilón's) food is gluten free. The café did have a couple options for vegan or GF pastries too. It's versatile enough to be your go-to for a quick coffee run, a casual lunch, or a chill afternoon hangout. With its vibey atmosphere, great coffee, and tasty snacks, this place certainly has my attention! Whether you're meeting up with the girls or bringing the kids along, you can't go wrong here. And lastly, they also do a fun brunch with live music on Sundays! read more

This is the cutest little cafe! Absolutely loved the main dining area and they have the cutest little private space if needed too. I had the Chamomile iced tea which was fresh made and delicious. The strawberry croissant was absolutely decadent, I'd go back just for another bite of one of those. I finished up with the pineapple and cheese empanada. Oh my goodness- the combination of the sweet fruit, cheese and just spicy enough salsa was perfect! We went on a Sunday at lunch, it was comfortable, easy to converse with my guest, and the service was great! read more
