Rick: Thank you for your response but the saga has another chapter. After my post and before your response I received a call from Lisa, Customer Service Manager Ontario and she first said that Mathis would only take back the dresser. When I informed her that they recently delivered the dresser and 2 chest drawers, she then said we would only be able to return the dresser and the 2 chests, the nightstand would not be accepted. Really, my mother would have to keep one non-matching piece? How does that make any sense? She then informed me that had 7 days to spend the credit. Why? Mathis already has the money, what is magical about 7 days? When I explained that the reason this has taken so long is that the first set had 8 of 16 drawers that were not properly working. Her response was; that happens a lot to the furniture as it transports in ocean containers and bounces around. Well if this happens "a lot", then why not inspect it before delivering it to the customer? Because my mom would be charged a $700 restocking/delivery fee and because the credit needed to be used in 7 days, we decided to go to the store and trade in one of the chest drawers for a rug the next day. We also decided to move the new furniture to a guest room and move her old furniture back. She is confused why we need to do this but, it's a lot of money for someone on a fixed income pension from my deceased father to lose. Mathis has turned an exciting event into a nightmare for her and I'm still not sure she fully understands why. Now she's stuck with her old furniture and new unwanted furniture that I will have to have Mathis come out to repair, again. read more

Ok, latest update. Just was told that the sofa and chair I special ordered is discontinued! I find this out 12 weeks after the order was placed. So let's see how they deal with my request of a full refund and pickup a piece they delivered 2 weeks ago that's been sitting in a room for the rest of the order to show up. The sales process leading up to the purchasing decision is great. Our assigned sales contact (Atti) was SUPER helpful and helped us select items that fit what we were looking for. She's awesome!! Honestly, 5 stars for her alone. However, the way that the business operates once a customer has purchased the items needs a serious second look, maybe third or fourth based on what I'm seeing from the other reviewers on here. Either they're still working on it, or nothing's being done. I see that a lot of the responses to the reviews were a result of covid-related delays but the lack of transparency and difficulty for us to get a hold of someone to provide answers to where we're at in the delivery process is not. We made our decision to only purchase a FEW items here knowing that there were going to be months of delay, due to the reviews on here. We chose to do somewhat of a test run to see whether it's worth continuing the rest of our purchases here. Low and behold, came across all the same situations others have complained about. Here's one example. A table got delivered to us that was damaged, sides were cracked so we rejected this and was told that someone was going to call us back to schedule delivery for a replacement. No one called. We called customer support, which forwarded us to the Irvine store, who then forwarded us back to the Ontario site, then again back to Irvine (what's going on here?) One of the sales managers (sounds like there's many) told us that he'd personally call us back to update us. Never did. Called and left this sales manager a voicemail several times. Still no response. Called customer service, I think it defaults to an office in Ontario, and the person admitted to us that the staff at the Irvine office isn't that responsive/great (way to show a united front, but ok good to know). This means that every time we need answers...best to physically go to the store to get actual answers because no one in support will know. So definitely don't go here if you live far away. We go to the Irvine location, was told that it will take another couple weeks to get a delivery ready. Ok fine. Fast forward to this week, finally got a call that it's ready. Schedule delivery, and with a gut feeling...we had a crazy idea of "what happens if they resend us the same defective table?" Not great, but kinda seemed likely right? Besides, based on what we were experiencing so far, who in the organization is being held accountable of taking defective items out of circulation? So we called Support and asked them to make a note of that before we get our delivery. Perfect, she says she'll note it. Done. Day of delivery: Same EXACT table got delivered. Post pandemic there is some sort of furniture backlog or shortage where people can't get their furniture for months. We went to Ashley - mistake - furniture never came on time so we had to cancel. Then we went to Arizona leather and delay is 6 months to get a sofa. Finally we went to Mathis brothers - wow what a breath of fresh air ! We ordered a sectional sofa that was delivered the exact day they said it would come !! 3 days after we purchased it !! Amazing ! We didn't buy anything, we just went in to browse the couches, but I just had to write this review for Stan. He gave us a friendly welcome the minute my husband and I walked into the store. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions as he walked us through the store, showing us the different types of couches. What we appreciated the most was that he gave us space without making us feel like we were being followed around, but stood within earshot in case we needed him. Although they have some very nice furniture, I can't recommend them with their terrible customer service. If you can afford to replace your couch once a year, then they should be fine. I purchased an expensive power reclining sofa in 10/2021 (made in the USA). On 12/7/2022, one motor stopped working. Mathis said that I needed to contact GBS, their warranty company. I've now contacted GBS, quite a few times. They initially sent a repair team who said the part would have to be ordered. NOBODY is getting back to me. Although I've called GBS quite a few times, they're now saying that they're not hearing back from Mathis! 3 months now without full use & very frustrated by being blown off. Edit 3/4/23 After emailing a copy of my review along with my pertinent information, I've just received an email from Jennifer Delgado in the Mathis customer disservice department telling me they can't help me. She's telling me to call GBS even though GBS keeps telling me that they can't help me until Mathis sends me the part. Looks like I'm stuck with a $5,000 reclining couch that won't recline. Mathis Brother fails again. Yes, their furniture is great. The service that comes along with it? Still looking for it. We bought outdoor furniture that has a price on it. When they ring it up, it says that it's their membership price. There is no where it says it's the membership price, the furniture in the store clearly says the difference in the membership price and regular price. All the furniture outdoor Diesnt have the tags. Not our problem, Mathis brothers should have updated it. Whatever the advertise price is shown, should be accommodated. Mathis brother thinks they did us a favor by giving us that price. We were supposed to get our furniture on Dec 11th but changed it to the 4th. Got a courtesy call that we were supposed to get a call 24h before delivery. Nothing. Called our salesperson, no response. Text, says she wasn't working, will follow up the next day. When I get a follow up, my salesperson just states the same courtesy notification that I'll get my furniture on the 11th. Excuse me? Are you not going to address that my furniture was supposed to come on the 4th? This shows that all they care is about the sale. Don't care what happens after that. They'll hound you when you first step on that floor trying to sell furniture but after that, there's no more service. read more

I am here posting a second time about an incredibly horrible experience with Mathis in Irvine. We have spent over $50,000 since June at this store including some custom furniture through their design center. After our first posting got their attention, they begged me to remove our horrible experience from Yelp by "loaning" us some floor model furniture until our order ( 2-3 weeks) was in, taking 4 months ( now told over 5 months). We were stuck as part of the set was already in our home. We agreed. We were told that our custom order (supposed to be 12-14 weeks) that was now over 4 months, came in - nobody called to tell us...it just sat their until I called once again to inquire on the status! Customer service here is horrible. They've stopped returning phone calls and overall communication is non-existent ( now even from the designer who told me once to just call Josh the store manager). The $3500.00 wall art took three deliveries until there was art that wasn't damaged. Like, do you inspect stuff before it leaves on the truck??? Our issues have made it to the general manager who tells you he's sorry and that this is all unacceptable, but then its back to square one with the next issue ( back ordered, delays, damage, horrible communication, etc). Before spending your hard earned money, consider what may happen to you after you start paying for it. This is all but a mere snapshot of the number of problems with this business. Its quite pathetic. Designer Sim, Design Manager Xavier and Store Manager Josh....you need to seriously up your game and give a da-- about people who spend a small fortune at your store. read more

My elderly mother bought some small tables. Mathis gave us a four hour window for delivery but didn't show. After several calls they showed up almost two hours late. The tables were damaged when delivered. Delivery people said "This happens all the time" and they took pictures. The delivery people said my mom would be contacted about a return or repair. Mathis didn't call so when I went in two weeks later I was told I could not return because it had been more than a week. Very frustrating. "Customer Service" seemed organized around NOT providing service and preventing reasonable returns. read more

Let me start by saying that we had such a great experience working with Chef Mike at the Irvine location. He was very professional and helped us place our order on multiple visits. Sadly, our positive experience with Mathis Brothers ended once we left the store. Our furniture delivery experience was incredibly frustrating. First, our delivery date was screwed up which caused us to receive our items three days late. Second, the media center we ordered was missing shelves, arrived chipped in some areas, AND worst of all, the glass cabinet door on one of the sides was installed the wrong way! I can't even get a hold of anyone in customer service until 11am. Chef Mike is great, and I encourage you to ask for him if you visit the Irvine store, but based on our disappointing delivery experience I doubt we'll shop with Mathis Brothers again. read more

I've been shopping around for a bedroom set for about a month now and have been EVERYWHERE. Not only did the Irvine Mathis Bros have the largest selection, but they were able to deliver the same week (compared to other places had long wait lists), and we looooove our new set! I was helped by Sarah B who was so sweet & knowledgeable, and I really felt like she was there to help me have the best experience. I'll be back for our next furniture purchase for sure! read more

I am very DISAPPOINTED with Mathis Bros. I bought a soda & matching love seat. Before I I had them a year, the electronic mechanism stopped working on my sofa. Obviously, I could no longer operate my sofa. I contacted them immediately. They sent a serviceman for a repair. He stated an order would have to be placed for the part. It's been almost 6 months with an inoperable sofa in my living room!!! I have made numerous phone calls with one run around after another. They refused to replace the sofa. So here I am stuck with something worthless. I will NEVER shop at Mathis Bros. again. They are quick to sell, but nothing after. BEWARE!!! read more

Jon Berlin helped me, well I should say lack of helped me. He was very quick to take my money and assured me I would get everything within six weeks. He was "my go to guy". Classic sharkey sales tactic. I did not hear back from him at all throughout the entire process. I had to hunt him down every two weeks via text message as he rarely picked up the phone. He never provided me any updates. I got one update that everything was delayed and was set for September 25. I awaited the arrival and never heard anything. I sent a lengthy email to customer service via the website and left two voicemails for a manager and never heard back. Chased jon down again and was told it was not coming until end of October and first week of November. Finally had it with Jon so I got a hold of a manager Who did not help much but was able to give me my delivery date. The furniture arrived... only part of the shipment and it was all damaged. Looks like they gave me a floor model and spray painted all the damaged areas. The bed headboard and frame arrived without any boxing and the drivers were not very professional. They put their drill on my marble dining room table and on my hardwood floor. I have yet to hear back regarding my refund so I already disputed the charge. Worst customer service ever. OK. Had to update for I said I would do this. As they did what they said they would do as well :) They arranged and quite quickly too a replacement to the dirty spot chair with a truly bagged from factory one. However having said that, there were two smaller dirty spots on it which I assume is a direct result from the factory (hence-WHITE chair-perhaps they should be more careful) I cannot fault Mathis nor their delivery team which were a team of great, cautious, careful guys! I love the chair and a lil spot clean should do the trick. THANK YOU TO THE TEAM that reached out immediately to rectify my concern. I am glad to say I will be a return customer to their facility. Even after a bit of inconvenience, I am grateful with the outcome. Thank you again Rick and to the others that helped solidify my concern. Sad to say this is not the Mathis Bros we used to know and love years back. Yes! the sales associates are very helpful and go up and beyond to assist. BUT, yes the dreaded "BUT" that is where it ends. Once it goes to delivery.....it's a loser. A $2500 table that was damaged was actually tried to be delivered into my home....HARD NO! Then gave them another go since we did get the monies credited. Ordered a white chair that was said to be in stock. Thought this would be safe and delivered new and un-damaged. Sure, no damage was incurred for it was fabric...but having said that it was filthy! YES... to give the ilussion it was new the delivery team removed a bag from it, was it the bag from factory? Well how could have it been when it was so dirty at the arms and the sides. I had to spend over an hour using toxic cleaners to rid the filthy marks which sadly some still exist. Paid over $1500 for a dirty used chair it seems. Guess I have learned my lesson now with this sadly declining company. Have one more special item ordered rug to receive *fingers crossed* can only hope its not something used and worn! Guess we have learned our lesson and will find another company to spend our $$ with. My husband and I had gone to this store twice and felt like we were being followed by the secret service. The salespeople were literally on top of us. We left two times but they had things I liked so I went back alone. My impression of this store changed completely when I met Joey McKay. He is hands down the most awesome salesperson. He is so amazing that I went back after my first order and decided to surprise my son with a fabulous recliner since he was coming home from college for Thanksgiving. Joey Mc Kay is super patient. I could not make a decision and went back several times but he continued to be helpful. I also ordered my younger son a custom upholstered bed frame which just arrived and it looks fabulous with the other furniture I had purchased there. Delivery people are super as well. Ordered our new living room mid July (5 months into the pandemic) we were told that the order would be delivered 10 - 12 weeks written on the contract but the salesperson confided in us that orders were down so we could expect it in as little as 6-8 weeks. I called into the Store 3 weeks ago(12 weeks) and were told tbe furniture would be in that week and we should recieve a call for delivery. I called back in last week(14weeks) and we were told that it was delayed and would now be in the store Oct 15. I called back in Oct 16th (15weeks) to confirm and now told the order has been pushed back another 6 weeks until the end of Nov. through all of this we have never received 1 call or update from the store unless we iniated. I understand the challanges from covid, but the total lack of follow up and customer service on a $3000.00 from this store is terrible business. read more

Buyer beware. I ordered a piece of furniture that was not in stock. I was informed the item would arrive in two weeks. I paid for the item and delivery at that time. When the item arrived I was told the item could not be delivered for another week. There was no way they could do an expedited delivery of the item I waited two weeks for. Canceled that purchase and went to Living Spaces where I bought a similar item with 2-day delivery. Also, trying to get the order canceled and a full refund almost to an act from Congress. Not a good way to do business. Moral of this story: only pay for furniture in stock. And make Living Spaces my first option for purchasing furniture. read more

We went in to consider different fabrics for a custom accent chair and Aaron helped us select a better fabric then we would have chosen which coordinated with our furniture, and he helped us select a far better rug (better color and quality) as well. **Update**STILL no furniture. I call once a week and get different information EVERY call. The sales rep I originally placed the order with has left the company (smart move, she was awesome and as honest as possible). When I would call to check my order status, I was often transferred to the old sales rep ph. At this point I'm filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) who advised I file with the Federal Trade Comission (FTC) for MB bad business practices. As consumer's we have rights and it saddened me that MB Chooses exploit that during trying times. read more

We recently had a fantastic experience with Mathis brothers. As soon as we entered their office in Irvine, Ca; we were warmly welcomed by Adrian Mondragon. He is a very friendly, trustworthy, reliable, and kind person. Thanks to his help; my wife, our 4 years old daughter, and I had great few hours in their office, we purchased a full set of furniture, carpet, dining table and 6 chairs. Since then; we have not been alone. He has always been following up with us regarding The accounting, price match, delivery, and all kind of support. He asked for second opinion from colleagues regarding design and color patterns. It was completely obvious that he is looking for providing us with the best service versus just selling items. Adrian is still calling me to confirm the delivery of items, and updates us about the remaining items' delivery. I am very thankful for his support. My mom and I just had a terrible experience here. We just wanted to get a twin or full bed but the sales person kept trying to up sale us to get a queen. We felt a bit uncomfortable and asked the front if they had a clearance section with beds and they didn't know. They said they had a clearance section but didn't know if they had beds. My mother went to Mathis Brothers and bought my uncle who had a stroke an electric chair that stands them up to get out. Well it broke a few months after we got it. And now it is broke again. She called them and their service department said it would be 16 weeks to get the part. I think that is ridiculous they should have given him a new chair. That is not good business. Someone who needs the chair to get up and it's broken. Plus we had to rent a chair for him so that's more money spent. And the chair from Mathis was not cheap. read more

I ordered a sectional custom ordered 11 weeks ago. When we placed the order, the sales associate told us wait time is 8-10 weeks, but it should be delivered in 6 weeks and that is is just a formality to say 8-10 weeks. After waiting 8 weeks, we get a call that the color we chose has been discontinued and we would have to come back to the store to choose a different color. We have worked with several sales managers who told us they can try to expedite the couch so we don't have to wait another 8 weeks, but they never actually follow up. We tried to call again today to follow up and see if they were able to expedite the process and we got hung up on by 2 different sales associates. Don't order a customized couch from here unless you don't need it for 5 months. read more

On 06/16/2020 I went in to Mathis Brothers to buy a bedroom set and a mattress. I was assisted by Jaz and had a great experience. the furniture had about a 3 week delay at the time and I was okay with that wait. Unfortunately, 2 months later I still had not received anything but the mattress and ONE NIGHTSTAND. I decided to cancel my order because at this point they were not being transparent with me when I would receive the rest of my furniture. They simply did not know and I would've appreciated this instead of the constant lies. Upon requesting to cancel my order and return the one night stand. They wanted to charge me a restocking fee! Upon getting it escalated this was removed and the nightstand was returned at no charge. Now I am facing another issue. When I ordered my furniture, they asked for $200.00 down to place the order. Since the day I asked for the order to be cancelled, about a month and half now, THEY CANNOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER TO WHEN I AM GETTING MY MONEY BACK! I text Jaz and she stopped being any help. Like a lot of people here, I've had the experience of perfectly nice sales reps who are eager to help you and get your money, quote you a delivery date, and then shift the date, shift the date, shift the date. My sofa set was supposed to arrive in mid-July. Then August. Now it's maybe coming in September. In the meantime, when I was told the August date last week, we assumed it was correct so we disassembled some of our old furniture. How silly of us to trust this was right! Now we're living with half a furniture set for the next month, and just hoping the September date holds and we actually get the furniture we paid for. I don't actually hold the sales rep responsible for this, as I'm sure they're dealing with a supply chain that keeps drying up, but I specifically chose a couch I WAS TOLD would be in stock in mid-July because the first one I chose and wanted WASN'T IN STOCK. What I do hold them responsible for is the fact that I've had to initiate all contact with them, which tells you a lot about how they're feeling about their business dealings, and the way Mathis Brothers works: lure them in, then leave you out to dry. It's just horrible. Unless you can pick up the item THAT DAY, or are okay living for months without new furniture, I strongly recommend steering clear. read more

What is the purpose of making an online appointment when you still won't get help?! Prior to coming here, I had already knew the reviews were mixed and one in particular that stuck out was about being racially profiled. We were already prepared for any kind of that behavior. We were not looky loos either! We knew what we wanted and ready to buy! I made an appointment a few days prior to my preferred date and time I wanted. We were in the market for a new couch and decided to start here, as it close to our house. Boy were we wrong!! Upon arriving, there is a pre-screening station and after we had our temperatures checked and wristbands given, they asked if we had an appointment which we said we did. The employee looks around for any one who is on the floor that can help, he ended up calling "Mohmmed". Now he was not assigned to us even with having an appointment, they still can't get it together. In the beginning, he was cordial and showed us some furniture, everything was going good until 15 minutes into the showing he disappeared and never returned. He left us on our own, without any explanation. Yet, there were other employees on the floor that had walked past us and did not offer any assistance knowing we were left alone. Disrespectful! They acted as if we did not exist. We felt invisible and disrespected. We proceeded to leave and no one even say goodbye. I am extremely aware of who I choose to spend my money with and I can say that, this is not the place to spend your money. Perhaps, they thought we did not look like we came to buy. But they were sadly mistaken and should never judge a book by its cover, nor underestimate anyone who walks through that door. You never know who you are dealing with. I cannot recommend this place at all! It is not user friendly for people who look like myself. It is a one and done for me. Our salesman disappeared and never came back. It was like going to a used car lot. About five salesman wouldn't leave us alone. They kept pressuring us to buy a mattress when we just came in to look. Afterwards we did research on the mattress we liked and found the salesman gave us wrong information. Just like a car salesman they'll say anything to make a sale smh. read more

I hate that I must write my HORRIBLE experience with Mathis Brothers, Irvine Calif. store. We experienced many issues so bear with me as I share the details. My husband and I came in to purchase patio furniture and knew exactly which piece we wanted. As we walked in, I was drawn to a beautiful sofa end table and coffee table that I knew I had to have. So as we went to look at the patio furniture we ran into sales associate Jeff LeCates who walked with us to the patio area and he took down the information to ring up the patio furniture. Then my husband and Jeff walked over to the area to get the information for the coffee table and end table. In the meantime, I went looking at rugs to which I found one and brought Jeff over to add this to our purchase as well. So far Jeff had been helpful and I was happy. Now this is where everything goes downhill. Jeff takes us over to the cashier who messed everything up on our order. He rung up the prices incorrectly on the 2 tables. He also charged us for the $195.00 delivery fee which we didn't catch until later that night. We were open to driving to the other 2 stores to pick up the items as they were not in stock in Irvine. Come to find out the cashier scheduled all items to be picked up at Indio location which was incorrect as we could not fit all items in our truck. That was our choice, yet we were still charged a delivery fee even though we had discussed with the cashier the different dates and 2 locations to where we are picking up our items. While we were waiting for the paperwork to be completed, one of the sales managers had walked by with a cart and Jeff asked for his assistance to help us bring our rug to our truck. The sales manager said we needed to pay first then he will get the rug down. As the cashier was fixing the errors, Jeff excused himself because he had another customer he needed to meet. As some of the other reviews state, it is very clear that once the sales people get the customers sale rung up, they are on their way to the next "sucker." So now that we think our issues are over with the cashier, we go to the customer pick up area and waited 30 minutes for someone to bring out our rug. During this time, my husband called Jeff's cell phone twice and called the store directly to where the operator's response was "Maybe they are at lunch? WTH? Now my most patient husband goes back into the store to get someone's attention only to be waiving the receipts to a gal who was sitting behind the cashier doing nothing and she just held her hand up like not to bother her. While I am waiting in our truck, a sales woman came out and acted surprised that we had been waiting all this time to be helped. Within 5 minutes finally someone brought out our rug and we were on our way. Mind you, there were no other customers there and I almost thought we were in the wrong area but it was in fact the customer pick up area. So come the next day. My husband and I drive out to Indio to pick up our patio furniture. We drove from Orange County to Indio, 2 1/2 hours to only find out at 10:20 am from our sales guy Jeff LeCates that he "FORGOT" to tell us that the distribution center in Indio is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays!! So even though he confirmed they had our items and scheduled for us to pick it up on Wednesday, we drove out there and came home with NOTHING! In the meantime, Jeff had told my husband that he will call him back at 11:00 am when he got to the store to confirm if he could have the items shipped to Ontario so we would not have to drive all the way back to Indio again. Needless to say, Jeff LeCates has yet to call us back and flat out LIED to us about calling the other stores to make arrangements because we called Ontario and it was not done. Once we got back home, my husband called AGAIN and was transferred to Ruben. We assume he is at the Irvine store. After going round and round, we were offered the typical $100 gift card and I said ABSOLUTELY NOT! I want my items delivered to me at no charge. What we ended up negotiating is, we cancelled our order for our patio furniture and supposedly they are delivering our tables in 3 days. Now after reading the other reviews, if our furniture is not here on Saturday, we will cancel the order and we will go to ASHLEY FURNITURE to purchase the exact tables. Which Ashley Furniture will match any price. I would cancel right now but my husband had spent a lot of time dealing with these unprofessional bozo's and I felt bad asking him to call and cancel our order. This company is a mess! Mathis Brothers will never see me walk through their doors ever again unless I have to go to the store to get our refund if our tables are not here when they have told us they would be. I truly hope that "Rick S." the one who responds with the half a$$ apologies, reads these reviews and understands Mathis Brothers have some serious issues with the way this store is being run and does something about it. read more
