I couldn't resist while I was at Atlantic Times Square in Monterey Park. I had to drop by Matcha Cafe Maiko. Free parking at the square. Come early to snatch a parking spot because they get super busy on the weekends. Cute cafe ice cream shop. Staff was friendly. What drew me in was the ube not so much the matcha. I was intrigued by the Maiko Special so I got it. It comes with a choice of up to two flavors. I chose matcha and ube. It also comes with matcha chiffon, chestnuts, and shiratama mochi. It's a small cup with lots in it. It looked like it was top heavy. Strangely enough, the toppings are at the bottom and the ice cream at the top. I had to eat all the ice cream first because I couldn't get to the toppings LOL. By the time I was done, all I had left were the toppings. They may want to reconsider its preparation method. Anyways, ube and matcha ice cream were smooth and delicious. I probably won't get the Maiko Special again as it was one pricey item at $12+ each. I will try their other ice cream items in the future though. Still worth a visit for matcha ice cream plus more.
This place is located in the Atlantic Time Square plaza so we just parked within the structure. The interior design was very cute with touches of Japanese inspired artworks and a unique ceiling design. There isn't a lot of seating inside but we were lucky to snag a table before the rush. We got: Ube Maiko Special - yummy but not worth the price. The difference is you get way more soft serve, but I didn't love all the toppings below it. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed the Ube. Matcha Shaved Ice - better priced. Although the soft serve wasn't as much as the Special order, it was still a satisfying amount and it also had the same mochi balls in the Special order. These were very chewy and delicious. For someone that loves Matcha, the Matcha soft serve was very delicious and I would definitely come back just for this.

Matcha Cafe Maiko is definitely a go-to for the intense summer heat. Their Maiko special is huge! I definitely should've just ordered and shared it but I somehow finished the entire thing. The matcha float was also great. They fill it up with a lot of ice to keep the ice cream up. The matcha flavor is so intense. Not too bitter and not too sweet, the perfect balance . -1 star because tell me why the store was more hot than the heat outside ... the girls working that night were great! I'm not sure how they worked with that kind of heat, but someone give them a raise
5/18/26 After some really savory Chinese food, this spit is just a few doors down and perfect for dessert. Walked in either friends to check out their menu. I wanted soft serve. Staff are friendly and welcoming, attentive and kept the place tidy, clean & organized. The wonderful smell of fresh waffle cone wafted in the air-it was intoxicating. I got matcha & ube soft serve-- what a huge portion! I couldn't finish it. It was so good though! Not too sweet. Each flavor was distinctive and enjoyable. There's no restroom inside the shop but the plaza has public restrooms and dedicated parking, limit 4 hours, free. Would likely return if the mood strikes and if in the area

The first time I went to Matcha Cafe Maiko was several years ago in Honolulu, and their matcha was outstanding! So I'm really excited they opened one in east LA. It's definitely a great place to sit down and enjoy matcha, and they have an extensive list to order! Unfortunately, a few of their items don't taste good at all. I ordered a few unique and safe items and I realized their safe choices are the way to go I.e matcha latte and their matcha soft serves. The matcha lemonade was way too sour, and their special matcha dessert just overwhelmed the matcha itself and there were too many pieces that didn't feel like they belong and the matcha bread was overly dry. I'll definitely come back but just for the lattes and soft serves!
Stopped by for a matcha soft serve and it was pretty much exactly what I wanted. Good matcha flavor, not overly sweet, not bitter either. Balanced. The place itself is small, clean, and has a nice vibe. A few seats, some cute murals, and friendly staff. There was a line when I came, but it was Sunday afternoon, so no surprise there. I've always liked the Little Tokyo location and honestly did a double take when I saw this one. Maybe they're connected, maybe not. I could be mixing things up. One thing to know: no restroom inside the shop, but the plaza has public restrooms. Also plenty of free parking Price-wise... yeah, maybe a little high for soft serve. Then again, I still bought it and ate the whole thing, so I guess it wasn't that overpriced Would I drive across town just for it? Probably not. But if I'm in the plaza and craving matcha, absolutely.
Stopped by on Saturday, 05/30/26. This is my first time at this location (located at the Atlantic Times Square shopping plaza, across from Daiso). There is another location at Rowland Heights which I have been before. I ordered 1 matcha soft-serve which was $7.55 TAX = $0.79 OVERALL TOTAL = $8.34 So worth it - the portions were generously HUGE! I shared it with my mom and we were so full. Honestly this is good for 3 people. The matcha here is extremely authentic - one of the best in SoCal. 5/5! I want to try out everything!!!!!
ordered the matcha maiko parfait special. SO GOOD. this place might be my favorite matcha dessert spot in socal. the matcha is very strong and they don't skimp on the toppings. i also love how they have all different kinds of matcha desserts and a stamp card to redeem after 10 visits. will definitely be back
A great place to get your matcha fix in the Atlantic Times Square. I wish that more stores will open in the near future because it's somewhat of a ghost town here (even though parking gets so full). We ordered the matcha latte and the iced lemon matcha. They were both solid but the latte was extremely sweet. However, they were so nice to adjust the sweetness of it for us and it tasted a lot better. The drinks came out pretty quickly and the staff were all so nice, despite being so busy. There was plenty of seating inside with good A/C during the hot summer. read more
First Matcha Spot & A Fun Summer Treat! Decided to try our first matcha spot and went all in by ordering two matcha drinks, two matcha soft serve ice creams, and their shaved ice with our choice of two flavors: Matcha + Ube. Matcha + Ube Shaved Ice -- $9.55 Rating: 8/10 This was such a fun and refreshing shaved ice, especially on a hot day! The matcha shaved ice came with two mochi balls and your choice of soft serve ice cream, and of course we had to go with the Matcha and Ube combination. The texture of the shaved ice paired really nicely with the creamy soft serve. The combination of the two flavors created a nice balance because, let's be honest, matcha by itself can definitely be a little overwhelming with its natural bitterness. Having the sweetness from the ube mixed in gave that perfect little break and made the dessert much more enjoyable. The mochi balls added that extra chewy texture, and overall it was a really refreshing dessert that was fun to try! Service & Ambience Very fast and friendly service with plenty of tables and seating available for groups of friends! It's a nice spot to hang out, enjoy your dessert, and cool down on a warm day. This spot is conveniently located in Atlantic Square, just a couple shops away from Daiso, making it an easy stop while walking around the plaza. Came for the 1st time today to satisfy my matcha craving... I paid $10.94 for ONE iced matcha with oat milk!! so pricey! but oh SO DELICIOUS!!!! :D I think I'll definitely return, but only when I'm feeling generous with my wallet LOL read more

We came back for their matcha latte float ($8.45). Sadly, they reduced the amount of soft serve more than 50%. The taste and quality is still good, very rich in matcha, but that was disappointing to say the least. Service was quick. It looks like only one person working the counter. read more

I got the Hojicha Tea Float and wow! For $8-9, you definitely get the value! This drink dessert is huge and can be shared. The height of the ice cream was almost the same heighy as the cup! I had to ask for an extra cup to hold it all! The quality of the matcha was great, very sweet and creamy. I also really enjoyed the hojicha too. This is in the Atlantic Times Square. There's a lot of seating and tables here for you to enjoy. read more
Massive amount of soft serve. Pretty to look at but not very flavorful. Stopped by after dinner with friends a ride the street and enjoyed the ice cream but did not find it to be the tastiest. Staff is friendly and helpful, and the space bright and modern. It is well priced at 8.00 for q large ube and matcha soft serve that is definitely meant to be shared. read more
Came around 9ish? Got the mix with vanilla and matcha. I think if i got matcha on its own itd be too strong. Actually, This mightve been the reason why i couldnt sleep. The vanilla and matcha was a good combo. Got the waffle cone but when the softserve melted inside the cone, it started dripping. Gotta eat it fast if you dont want ice cream everywhere. also, Love the pokemon pictures they have in here. read more

The maiko special is huge and can be comfortably shared between 2-3 people. I was happy I could try both the matcha and ube and loved that there were a lot of toppings included (mochi ball, red bean, corn flakes). I was a bit disappointed by the ice cream since it was more icy than creamy. Also the ube tasted a lot more like taro ice cream instead of ube. read more
So good! For my first time here, I got a basic matcha latte and a matcha soft serve to go. The order was made so quickly that I barely finished paying when the barista told me they were ready! Both the cashier and barista were really friendly in the short interaction we had together. I always get no ice wherever I go because I don't like my drinks watered down by ice. While many matcha places will just underfill my cup to keep their proportions correct, this place filled it up to the brim. The matcha was so strong and flavorful too! The soft serve was really smooth with a strong flavor as well. My only gripe would be with the to go container for the soft serve. The lid was sliding/lifting off and soft serve kept running down the sides of the cup. I would suggest maybe taping down the cover or putting it in a small plastic bag to help catch all the runoff if you do end up taking it home. I will definitely be back to try some of their other drinks and soft serve flavors! read more

Ambiance is exactly what you'd expect for a Japanese ice cream shop in Monterey Park, not too fancy, not too basic, definitely more accessible than fashionable. Sufficient seating for everyone as well, especially given the space is not large. Can't say it blew me away but definitely did the job. read more
Located at the Atlantic Times Square plaza with garage parking available. I got the matcha latte float which is such a steal. The matcha ice cream was really smooth and creamy. And once I finished I had the matcha latte to enjoy. I think getting the float is a better deal than just getting the drink or ice cream separately. Staff was also very friendly and nice read more
Great quality matcha desserts! Really enjoy their soft serve ice cream and the Ube Swirl is my favorite as well as super photogenic! This cafe is located near the AMC in Monterey Park in their restaurant and shopping alley. Service is quick and friendly and the store has a few seats with cute murals. It's nearby a lot of other shops too so good to grab food and get some sweets here. read more
Came back again for their Matcha Latte Float since I was in the plaza for dinner and wanted some dessert. The price is still the same as last time, 8.45 and then a dollar to get the large size. However, the soft serve portion shrunk so much! It is only 1/4 of what it used to be! It is crazy that it hasn't even been a year yet and the portion shrunk like this. Kinda sad about this but still enjoyed the latte and the soft serve. The quality is still great and matcha is very strong and authentic. Still feeling sad about the soft serve size though. With the smaller size, it isn't as worth anymore.. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday around 7 pm and ended up waiting about 20 minutes after placing our order, which wasn't too bad considering how busy it was. The shop was lively and fairly noisy, with a mix of booths and tables for seating. We ordered the Maiko Special with ube and matcha soft serve. Overall, it was just okay. The soft serve itself was smooth, creamy, and had a nice balance of ube and matcha flavors. However, there was a bit too much red bean for my liking. The portion is generous and definitely something I'd recommend sharing. The staff was friendly, and our order came out in a reasonable amount of time despite the crowd. While this wasn't a standout dessert for me, it's a fun spot to satisfy a soft serve craving. read more

Located in the same plaza as the AMC theater. I finally came here to try out their matcha items. There was no line when I was there. My friend and I got the Hojicha Float and Strawberry Matcha Latte. They came out faster than I expected. They were very good, especially the ice cream on the float. About an hour when I left and had walked by again, there was a long line. read more
The interior was fine, they had booth and regular chair seating. They had murals and pictures framed so that was cute. Service was fine. We got a green tea and vanilla ice cream swirl parfait. It was expensive, around $15. Definitely a sharable parfait. The ice cream swirl was pretty good. It was tall and filled up in the middle which I liked. They had two small mochis. I like mochis so I wished there was more because two small ones is very little. The cup only holds so much though I guess. The hazelnuts or chestnuts or whatever nut was in there was OKAY. They had green tea in the parfait. I thought it wad very yummy either the ice cream. But after that layer, the cup was all red bean. I don't like red bean so it was a little sad. The jelly on the bottom had no flavor by itself. It's covered in red bean so might as well just eat it with that. As someone who doesn't like red bean, and half the cup being red bean, was pretty sad lol but its up to preference. The top part I really enjoyed, but it would not be really worth it to pay that much to only enjoy one half of it. Overall, it was pretty good. I would only get it if I was sharing with someone. read more

bro I was craving some ice cream and I went in here to order a vanilla soft serve and the old lady at the front is like "do u want ur ice cream in a cup or a cone" and I was like "oh can I have cone please but also a cup on the side in case my ice cream melts " and then she proceeds to say she's gonna charge me additional if I get a PLASTIC CUP ON THE SIDE..yea no Ure dtm....she was seriously about to charge me like 25 cents for a cup. It's not abt the price it's abt the principle..i bet they charge 5 cents per napkin..OMG I JUST SAW THE OTHER REVIEWS IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM very very bad service no no also the ice cream is mid so i recommend McDonald's McFlurry read more
This spot is located in Atlantic Time Square, and the soft serve here was absolutely delicious. We ordered the Maiko Special with a mix of ube and sesame soft serve, and it was such a fun and interesting dessert. What made it unique was the layering, on top was the soft serve, beneath that a cake-like layer, and at the bottom something similar to chè. Each layer had a distinct texture and flavor, making every bite different. Everything was well-balanced, not overly sweet, and very satisfying. Portions were fairly large, and it made for a great treat. Definitely something I'd order again. read more

Turns out, I didn't know they had a Matcha Maiko here in Monterey Park, no longer needed to head all the way to Rowland Heights, this spot is in the Atlantic Time Square right across from other food spots, perfect for a post meal treat. Parking - Free in a huge underground lot, plenty around This is one of the most popular spots for matcha and rightfully so. It's a great collaboration between ice cream and matcha drinks itself. Service is damn quick here, I got my drink in about 5 minutes despite the cafe being super busy. Quality here is amazing, very similar to the Rowland spot. I love the matcha latte here, even without the ice cream float, it's still very tasty. If you like high quality matcha type drinks, this is the spot to go. Certainly a nice collaboration between ice cream and matcha, definitely worth checking them out. read more
I stopped by Matcha Cafe Maiko for the first time yesterday, Sunday 1/18/2026 at around 2:45 PM with my girlies. I ended up ordering: Matcha Latte medium less ice $7.40 ($8.18 including tax) - pricey and comes in a super small cup. The matcha tastes good quality, not astringent or grainy, and they did put enough scoops. It also had a nice rich green color. However, just be aware that regular sweet here leans on the sweet side and this is coming from someone who usually gets fully sweetened drinks. Those in my friend group who got drinks thought their drinks were on the sweet so just be sure to ask for less sweet. Customer service: Decent, pretty straight forward interaction with the staff member. Store Interior: Not really impressed. Simple with a few seating booths with tables inside. It was stuffy inside and they had the door opened. It eventually cooled down, but it was hot for some time. We were able to get a table and got to stay for some time to chat. Tip: Be sure to get your stamp card! All in all, I thought the matcha was good, but pricey. If I were to come back, I'd try something new like the soft serve or hochicha! read more

I love the little Tokyo location and I was thrilled when I saw they were opening up a location in Atlantic time square! They are Soooo generous with their servings here, totally worth the value. Highly highly recommend bringing someone along with you to split an order. They are just that massive! I got myself a matcha latte with vanilla matcha swirl ice cream. Had to ask for an extra cup because I couldn't handle the mountain of ice cream on top. My matcha latte was perfection!!! Not overly sweet, great matcha flavors, and the ice cream on top melting into the drinks adds so much more creaminess to the drink! Can't wait to try more items!!! The doors are kinda heavy, and you have to really pull/push to open it lol read more

Soft serve portions are fairly large. Located in the Atlantic Time Square, tons of parking underground. Matcha Ube Swirl (soft serve)- seemed overpriced for what it is. Matcha portion is pretty grainy and leaves a weird waxy film on spoon as you eat it, I ordered mine in a cup. Ube portion was good, not too sweet. Banana Cream Matcha Latte -tasted as I expected it to. Matcha wasn't bad and wasn't amazing. read more
