Match has been one of my favorite restaurants for many years now. We recently went for my mother's birthday and it was just as wonderful as I had remembered! I started with the Wasabi Tuna which I love and tend to go back and forth between that and the Foie Gras (which is just as good). I tried the lamb for my main course and wow was it amazing! The sauce perfectly complimented the meat which was cooked just right! So good! I wish it was on the menu all the time! I finished with their signature chocolate chip cookies which I totally wish I was eating as I write this! They should really think about teaching a cookie making class because mine never come out that good! We like to go on sundays and indulge food wise but get a bottle of wine for 1/2 price. Service is consistently good. If you're in the area try it- you will not regret the decision. read more

Match review This was my second visit to Match, my first being a decent meal overlooking to wood-fired grill, but the food was nothing to write home about. On this visit, which was on a Sunday night, the restaurant was a bit quieter, and we tried many appetizers, salads and entrees. Consistent with my theory about restaurants, the appetizers in general beat out the rest of the food. We shared the following appetizers: a seared sesame tuna, hunk of buffalo mozzarella cheese on garlic bread surrounded by a fairly spicy chili sauce, and a sweet foie grae. The tuna was spectacular, a fresh, perfectly preserved inside and a crisp, soy-sauce glazed, sesame-crusted outside. Much better than the typical sushi restaurant tuna. The mozzarella was also fantastic: again fresh, well balanced between the sweetness of the cheese and the spiciness of the sauce, and with only a bit of garlic bread to provide some structure. The foie grae was unfortunately mediocre, most of it being a puff pastry with fruit and only a bit of meat, much of it tasting more like fat than a flavorful meat. Salads were fresh, in line with the summer season, and substantial. I was very pleased. For the entree, I ordered the bass. It can with mashed potatoes, for which I substituted vegetables. The bass was pan-roasted with a thyme brown butter. While the vegetables were nicely done, and I appreciated the inclusion of fava beans, I cannot say the same about the bass. The fish was slightly overcooked, and the skin, while crunchy, tasting mostly of fat and salt and didn't contribute much to the dish. It was far from the worst bass I've had, but I was unimpressed. In terms of service, the food arrived quickly and, as a bonus, the bottle of Sauvignon Blanc (all wines that evening) was 50% off. May be a Sunday evening special. Two people from our party got stuck in traffic, and the waitress was very amenable to adding in orders late and adding an extra table to ours. Overall, the meal and service exceeded expectations aside from the entree, and I would happily go back, though I would definitely order a different entree. read more

This place is always packed and I cannot for my life figure out why. I may need to go back and try it again, but every time I order food here it is really just so-so and very overpriced. The last time I had their gnocchi it had the consistency of an old sponge that sat in my sink for weeks. I disregarded this negative experience and went back last night for a girly dinner- 3 of us gals split a pizza, (which I have always heard that they are good at making, but seriously tasted so-so... like I could have made it at home...) and salads, which were just okay too, but were at least a little inventive with goat cheese and mini latkes. The sauvignon blanc we ordered was good. This place does do great drinks. Maybe I need to go back and get an entree to understand these amazing reviews. The guy next to us was very impressed with his veal osso bucco... or maybe I'm just incredibly picky. Next time I go, I'm just going to make sure it isn't on my dime. I will agree with one reviewer- the warm chocolate chip cookie dessert IS something to write home about. read more

My co-worker and i had to be in Norwalk for 2 weeks. We essentially tried every restaurant in Norwalk. This place was the best by far. The owner is the host and he was so accommodating. We went two nights in a row and the second night we didnt have a reservation on the busiest night of the week, but he found room for us anyway! For any red wine lovers, the Pinot Noir is absolutely the best I have ever had. The CARPETBAGERS are AMAZING!!!!! other appetizers to order are the Bacon and Mozzarella. The Mozzarella and bacon combination just melts in your mouth. The wild arugula salad is a must. The gnocchi with the beets is also another must. For entree, Two words: OSSO BUCCO...done! :) yummmmmm Dessert: LAVA CAKE, STRAWBERRY RHUBARB COBBER AND THE WARM PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES....and ITS A WRAP! BEST SPOT IN NORWALK. NOTHING COMPARES. -brenda h. read more

The food is amazing here!! The porterhouse for two is really delicious and for dessert ask for the chocolate chip cookies with the peanut butter gelato, just heaven!! You MUST make reservations in order to eat here any night Thursday through Sunday! read more

My relatives took me here when I visited them. I am forever grateful to them, because by myself I never would have been able to afford this fabulous restaurant. Although the place has a very upscale, trendy atmosphere, the restaurant made accommodations for my young cousin (plain pasta). The chefs put a ton of thought and creativity into each dish, all of which have many original and tasty flavors and textures. It's quite expensive, so try to go on someone else's dime! read more

Good Food! First place I've been to in Norwalk. The carpetbaggers are to die for as well as the octopus !! Good service as well . A must go !! read more

remember thinking that the app was nothing special. it was a shrimp cocktail and remember thinking it tastes just like regular shrimp cocktail just arranged differently and put on little chips. it was a while ago but i remember the entree being delicious and standout. it was some sort of a burger or something (beef), perhaps a carpaccio. read more

Nice atmosphere and terrific food. Great service. Definitely would go back. I had the spicy fried calamari which was unique and delicious. I had the ribeye special, again delicious. read more

My girlfriend and I went to Match for my birthday. We started with a delectable salad with crisp arugula, simply and beautifully flavored with lemon, pecorino and olive oil with a hint of roasted onion. I had the lamb medallions that were perfectly cooked and my girlfriend had the roasted cauliflower with raisins and pine nuts. Our server was pleasant and yet attentive without being intrusive. Dessert was a warm chocolate cake, (although called a souffle on the menu) with fresh raspberries and ice cream. The cocktails were a fantastic mix of lemon, ginger and bourbon - the sour affair. Our visit to Match was anything but that! Waiting for a reason to go back. read more

I've dined in restaurants around the world for 30+ years, from local good-grub places with great value to high-priced, white-glove restaurants. I have never been dissatisfied with every course at a meal before Match and this is the first negative review I've ever written about a restaurant. While the food was sub-par, my real issue is with the price/quality ratio. For $15 appetizers and $35 entrees, the food should, at a minimum, be good. Bread - Semolina bread that's still compressed from the cutter squeezing to hard when slicing? Our kids know better. I should have suspected from this things wouldn't get better. This staple should at a minimum be baked in-house or sourced from a quality baker. The basket did contain slices of pane rustico (peasant bread) that were good and more breads of this quality should be used. The Pear Martini was ordered by two in our party of four and were advertised as sweet. They were in fact sour with a peculiar (not good) taste and returned for a more refreshing lemonade-based cocktail (ok). A Guinness and Martini were delivered as expected to the two others. Gnocchi Appetizer ($15) - In the spirit of full disclosure, I am a Gnocchi snob and have been eating them since my youth in Italy. They are difficult to make, especially with American potatoes and require practice, practice, practice. They're always hit-or-miss atUS restaurants, however, the nice menu description warranted a try. As they were served, they should be dropped from the menu. Simply awful and an insult to the pasta. Soggy and tasteless. The sauce, a watery marinara base with lobster, was equally unpalatable. Shrimp Cocktail 'Ceviche Style' ($12) - Save your money and order another $12 drink. This appetizer was not "infused with cocktail sauce", it was riddled with ketchup. This dish should come with a side of fries. Tuna Tartare Cracker ($13) - The hot flat bread and caramelized onion warms the bottom-half of the tuna which makes each bite feel like you're eating an undercooked tuna steak. Tartare implies cold so please save the heat for the other dishes. There's no mention in the description of the wasabi goo draped (not drizzled) over it. Try serving this appetizer chilled martini glass with a teaspoon of soy-ginger sauce at the bottom, lightly drizzle the wasabi sauce on top, and ditch the cracker and onions. Blackened Swordfish ($31) - The best part of the meal was the guacamole that accompanied the swordfish. The main ($$) component of this dish, however, was chewy and tasted pre-frozen, not fresh. After two bites, the rest remained and I'm a member of the Clean Plate Club. This restaurant has obviously done well, however, the food on this night was terrible. Service was fine as was the ambiance. Reputation, location, and atmosphere will only carry you so far. Matt Storch has the pedigree to make this kitchen dazzle customers. It failed on this evening. We didn't get to the desserts for fear that we'd have more of the same. Fix what's broken or Match will become a lost opportunity. read more

Loved Match! Next time I want to order a bunch of apps and skip or share an entree because there are so many phenomenal appetizers to choose from. Our server was very attentive and informative. It was cozy and away from the hustle sitting by the window. I am pretty sure carpet baggers made my life complete! read more

Any foodie will tell you that Match is top notch. Perfectly seared scallops, mouth watering calamari, perfectly cooked salmon (seafood is not as easy to prepare well as people think!). Everything is fresh, the combinations/pairings are very unique and daring yet work perfectly. I saw one reviewer complaining about Peter's wait service, but he is our favorite waiter and I've found him perfectly attentive. He shows up always at the right times, always cheerful and funny (but discreet), and never making you feel rushed or babysat. The wine list is great, the decor is classy meets funky industrial, and the music is just right for the experience. Matt is a talented Chef deserving of very high praise. Oh, and don't skip dessert! read more

This place is my "go to" spot on Washington Street. The staff here is consistent, and always remembers repeat guests. The Chef/Owner takes great pride in the quality of the dishes he creates, and uses high quality purveyors for his ingredients. An absolute must try is the "carpet baggers"- I dream about them on the regular because they are so delish. There is also a great variety of small plates, pizzas and entrees to choose from, and my experience says that nothing here falls short of awesome. The staff here is genuinely friendly and seasoned in the industry, leaving little (if any) room for improvement. Love the ambiance here, with the chill music and vibe, and the bar is perfect for a cocktail and dinner. Great place for a few cocktails and apps, but also, perfect for a date night out. If you want great service with dynamite cuisine, this is the place to visit. read more

The experience at Match was great. Great romantic casual ambiance. Ordered arugula salad to split and it was epic!! Recommended by our server. We also got the potato pizza and ribeye. Pizza was a 6 but the steak was excellent! We got a choc soufflé cake for dessert which was blazing! Would definitely go again. read more

Went to Match last nite to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We went for the foie gras, but it has gone waaaay downhill -- tiny portion, and tasted like it has been frozen, then grilled. Grilled octopus was overcooked, thus very chewy and tasteless. Steak Frites, just ok. There were designer pizzas at all the surrounding tables of happy people, so I suggest you stick to the Burger, pizzas, etc. and stay away from anything special. Service and salad were excellent, though, hence the three stars. read more

Hey, if I call asking about hours and you say "we've already shut down the kitchen" and hang up on me immediately.... You're gonna have a bad review. read more

Used to be soo good. Ate here with 4 people, we all used to love this place. Every meal except one was terrible. The tuna tatar is awful - looks and tastes just horrible ( how does that happen?) the crab cakes - terrible ( so easy to make a good crab cake!) sliders terrible - meat ground beef tasted spongy . We ordered many other items - each one was terrible - the halibut was the only dish I can say was ok. So upsetting because I like the atmosphere here and the food was good at one time. The prices are very high so it really hurts when the entire night is bad food! read more

Trendy, but without substance. Great service and decor, food was good but not mind-blowing read more

This was excellent! The service was fabulous. They went out of their way to give us a table by the window for a party of 6! The food wow! Might seem too trendy upon walking in but believe me it's amazing! The portions are great and the food is extremely tasty! Try the figs or the BBQ quesadilla... Even BLT pizza... Everything is good including the cappuccino and dessert! Enjoy:) read more

Still my favorite local spot in CT. Food is always amazing, Matt the chef is still the man. WIth Suzanne at the front I always feel like I'm a VIP. I've pretty much been a regular since it opened & I have never had a bad meal or experience. The deserts are killer as well. Def a can't go wrong spot. read more

This restaurant has a nice ambiance, and a menu with enough variety to warrant a try. The service was o.k. however, the food is for the most part without real flavor beyond greasy. The portions are extremely small for the expensive price tag. The chef's creations are apealing to the eye, but a terrible contradiction and disappointment to the palate! Took a mediocre desert to remove the heavy oily taste of the meal! Unfortunately, the best item of the night was the cold crisp glass of water provided! :-( Sadly, I would not even give it a 1 star! read more

not sure if i went with the wrong group or did not order what others got but i was not impressed at all. pizza was small for the price and they pack too many tables into a smaller place. i would go again to try but would want some suggestions first. read more

Made a date with a lovely girl from SoNo and picked Match because it was a Match.com date. And what a pleasent surprise. Started with the Match Manhattan, a twist on the cocktail by adding what tasted like Contrue or O3. Yummy. Ordered the fried oysters while chatting and reviewing the dinner menu. The service was outstanding, no rush, just right. Then had the caesar salad and the Gnocchi with short ribs. The meal, the wine and the date were just right. Wine on Monday's is 1/2 price on bottles under $125. I wanted to eat more but decided that was enough so we shared a chocolate dessert rather than going for more food. It was delicious. I will be back. I hope they get more creative with the dessert menu. read more

A group of four of us celebrated one of our friend's birthdays this last Saturday night. Upon arriving, we were promptly recognized and sat at a table in the front. This average review is actually not a reflection of the food, which was by and large really good! It's about the service, which was so pushy, it made much of the dinner awkward. The server was very sweet (never got her name), but she was using every possible situation to try and upsell us. We all ordered drinks, couple of apps and entrees, but that wasn't enough for her. If you ordered the steak, she wanted to try and convince you to order the $79 sharable steak instead (she was adamant on this for some reason). if you ordered an app, she wanted you to order 2 or 3 others instead. Every time she came around, she wanted us to order more drinks even if our wine glass was still half full. She wanted us to pre-order a dessert even though we explained we had birthday cake waiting at home ("come on, you should have a dessert here and then the cake later"). It was just too much. I asked her at the beginning of the meal what was her favorite entree and she proceeded to basically list 50% of the menu. Not helpful in the least. It really cheapens an experience at a nice restaurant when you're constantly hit with upsells. Also, water refills were offered one single time during the entire long meal. Finally, the ricotta cheese that comes with the bread is frankly strange and flavorless. We asked for a side of aioli with our calamari and got some liquid-y cheese instead (the server swore up and down it was aioli even as I showed her it had the consistency of soup). We finally got it straightened out and got some on the side to enjoy with the apps. read more

This place doesnt mess around! Had the black truffle pasta and they made it rain with those black truffles. Well worth the price.

Really good food, plan and simple. Highly recommend the choc chip cookie for dessert. The only negative is the service could be taken up a notch, I don't know if our waitress was just having a bad night, but she was not that attentive. My biggest pet peeve is when I have to ask for water refill and I had to several times. Overall, great place read more

the new decor is fabulous, menu changed a bit when Match didn't need to be changed at all but still great! Yummy food. If you are a couple sit at the bar and order small plates on busy weekend nights. They have a yummy goat cheese salad with a fig vinaigrette. Bacon Mozz is heavenly. The head bartender makes amazing drinks. read more

Deducting a star because staff isn't as warm or friendly like before...kind of douchey.

This was my third time eating at Match and it didn't disappoint. We had a reservation and sat outside. We had the carpetbaggers (again!) and delicious as always. Crispy and just the most amazing sauce. The wasabi tuna is a must. The calamari appetizer was a generous serving and very large (my sister joked it was meal-sized). It was crispy and spicy. Yum! We also had the truffle pasta which was not skimpy on the mushrooms and the osso bucco. I could eat these again and again! They also have a spicy tequila cocktail (?mad Murray) that is a must try. Don't forget the cookies.... read more

3 Stars was there Saturday night with my wife 4 years. Heard a lot about this place . Got there at 5:30 , we had reservations for a play at 8:00 . We had a lot of time ! We were rushed . The calamari was fantastic. The Burger was so small with a ton of French Fries which were fantastic . For $18.00 a burger disappointed Scallops were good my wife had . We just finished a meal here that was spectacular .If you love for koha this is the best place in Fairfield County to get it seared and tonight it was served with blueberries and it was magical .The octopus was so tender and chargrilled and with smashed potatoes it was heavenly.
