The service was good, there wasn't very many people there and the ambiance was super casual. I had this place book marked for sometime so I'm happy I finally had a chance to try it. That being said I don't have a reason to return now that I've tried it. The food was just okay. The pizzas were kind of bland, my husband had to use some oil salt and pepper. My favorite thing to enjoy was the Spinach and Burrata and the fresh baked cookie my daughter shared with me. A pepperoni pizza for $20 is a bit insane for an average pizza. It was fresh and again the crust was delicious. But the other pizzas were just okay as well as bland. Love the location, and the service. Made me miss that pizza place that used to be downtown on the corner across from the park. read more

I love the meatball appetizer, burrata appetizer, Elisa pizza, and 3 meat pizza. Those are my favorite things to order here and I highly recommend. This place gets really busy but the service is still good, you may just have to wait a while depending on the day. It also gets really loud in here but it is spacious and clean inside. They do have a couple outdoor tables as well. These pizzas are personal size and thin so if that is not your thing you may not like it, but I like all kinds of pizza as long as the quality is good. read more

Mmm..... they have great pizza. I've gotten the Elisa twice with a different side salad each time. I enjoy their menu options that are a little different than regular pizza joints. And the crust is pretty darn perfect. I'll be back again for sure. I should probably try a different pizza though because I bet they're all great! read more

I have been wanting to come here for a while, I have my favorite pizza joints and it is hard to break from them. There are no reservations here which was good because I came here on the fly, waited 20 minutes for a table. The restaurant is very clean, modern and some art on the wall. Lots of small wood tables which can be attached for larger parties. Arugula Salad Fennel, Grana Padano, Toasted Almonds, Lemon Vinaigrette Came with a few pieces of Rosemary bread, this is amazing. This was a light salad, the produce was very fresh. There were traces of grana Padano and toasted almonds, could have used a little more. 3 Meats Pizza Mozzarella, Ricotta, Toscano Salame, Italian Sausage, & Mortadella This is a medium size pizza. I like the dollops of ricotta on the pizza, gave it a unique taste. Loved the thin crust, cooked perfectly. The pizza was full of flavor. Could use a little more proteins on top but not a deal breaker. Gotta have beer with pizza, ordered Dolomiti Italiana beer, it was decent. Service good. I will come here again and try the spaghetti with meatballs and rosemary bread. read more

Last year I was on a European cruise, and I happened to find myself in Naples, Italy at a restaurant called Antica Pizzeria Port'Alba, which according to Google, is wildly believed to be the world's first pizzeria. There was something so special about having and enjoying a slice of pizza at the world's very first pizzeria, and in the birthplace of pizza. And their pizza was absolutely incredible. There was no getting any more authentic or original than that. Which brings me to my point. Present day -- When I took a bite out of my slice of pizza at Masullo, I was instantly transported back to Italy to the world's first pizzeria. The familiar thin/light/chewy crust, and simple yet great quality ingredients. I think I have found my new favorite pizza spot. Service was an A+. Our waiter was so friendly, and was knowledgeable about the menu. He checked on us periodically to make sure everything was going smoothly, and made sure our glass water bottle was always full. It's pretty spacious inside with a very comfortable simplicity to the design and furnishings and with lots of natural lighting. We ordered two things, the first being the Rosemary bread with olive oil for dipping, and then the Eileen pizza. Rosemary bread with dipping oil (9/10) - it's hard for me to not score high on fresh baked bread with great quality olive oil lol. Bread came out piping hot. Rosemary flavor was perfectly subtle. Our waiter informed us that they get their olive oil locally from somewhere in Woodland, and that it's even available for purchase in the restaurant. After my first bite I immediately asked if I could purchase said olive oil lol. I give the olive oil itself a 10/10. Eileen (pizza) (10/10) - this pizza was absolutely delicious. It's a thin sourdough crust (amazing), with a cream sauce, and topped with mozzarella, crimini mushrooms, bacon, sage, and black pepper. There was literally nothing I didn't like about this pizza, and it makes me super eager to come back right away to try the other pizzas! Also, this has nothing to do with absolutely nothing, but it's next to Ann Phuong Law Offices Lolol. read more

Was really looking forward to this meal but was pretty disappointed. Got the cauliflower, a meatball, Gilda pizza, and Elisa pizza. I was hoping for a char and nice texture on the cauliflower but it was almost overcooked and just boiled tasting. I didn't taste or see any trace of capers in the caper butter. The meatball tasted like salami and pepperoni and had chunks of what I assume were fat or something suspended in them that made the texture really gross. My Gilda was tasty but had too much cheese and not enough olives. The olives also weren't chopped so they rolled off. My man's Elisa was delicious but there was just not enough of anything on it. The service guys were extremely nice and attentive. read more

Definitely a new favorite pizza spot in Sac! The sauce on the margarita pizza was so bright and fresh against the well seasoned crust. Really loved the crust's extra chew. The space was modern and light. The side room worked well for our group to have a separate space where we could talk more easily. We were well cared for by our server, who did a warm hand off when he went off shift. read more

The pizza was and always is excellent. It is cooked pretty darn perfectly every single time we visit. The salads are great too! It's a little drafty in there but beautiful space-take a jacket if you are a cold person. I believe there is a pizza meter, sometimes you just need to have a most excellent pizza (masullo) and sometimes you have to eat with children and friends that have child like taste buds (insert wherever here).. I'll add my other 'way up on my list' for pizza in sac too and I'll try to not call out ones I don't love. read more

The service at Masullo was exceptional, I went for an early dinner and it wasn't busy. To start my boyfriend and I shared their bread, it was so warm and you could tell it was as fresh, pair it with their oil and it's perfect! I ordered their small house salad with prosciutto and it was delicious and filling! Their pizza was good, we ordered the three meats pizza. I do wish it didn't have big lumps of ricotta, I would've preferred more medium/small size to have it spread out and try it in different bites. Overall, I enjoyed it, I was really impressed with the salad and I would come again to try different pizzas. The interior was simple yet elegant. read more

Really nice service but really underwhelming pizza. I know people love this place but I don't get the hype. It's a bit on the pricey side, but the restaurant lacks ambience. Maybe throw in a plant or some artwork? It just feels barren and quiet. My friends love this place, so I wonder if I just haven't ordered correctly, but my partner was underwhelmed with his dish as well. Definitely a favorite. The pizza is delicious, simple quality ingredients, delicious crust and the chili olive oil is dangerously addicting. Staff is great and were sensitive to our family's nut allergy. There were times when pistachios landed on our pizza but they made up for it. Be sure to grab a cookie for desert too. read more

I wanted to enjoy this place, but the service I received was awful. I would like to thank Bob for apologizing and acknowledging the incident that occurred, but he should not have to apologize for something he did not do. It was our first time at Masullo's and it was Valentine's Day as well. I know, as somebody who has worked restaurants, that holidays sometimes are really busy and not all days are going to be good days. My partner and I were the only ones dining in at the restaurant at the time, and we had ordered the Daily pasta and Eileen pizza. When the food arrived, my partner had asked if we could have a side of ranch. Upon asking this question, our server (I believe his name was Roberto) was not only condescending but belittling as well. He kept repeatedly yelling " DOES IT LOOK LIKE WE HAVE RANCH?? DOES IT LOOK LIKE WE HAVE RANCH?? DOES IT LOOK LIKE WE HAVE RANCH?? " and as someone who has never been here prior, I wasn't aware that asking for ranch would be so triggering to our server. He then went off on a tangent about how asking for ranch is " blasphemy" and that the word "ranch" was not allowed at the restaurant, and how even the mention of the word "ranch" to "the owner" was some sort of egregious act. My partner and I sat there for a moment speechless as we had never been so disrespected before over a simple question. We had thought that because it was a family establishment, that our server could have been joking around with us, but he was just being rude. So when we both got up from our seats, our server asked if we were going to just leave and I said that we were no longer going to eat here and we would not be taking our food to-go either; our server then walked over to the kitchen staff and threw his hands like a child having a temper tantrum, and said to Bob "well they're not going to eat", Bob replied to him "all you had to do was be polite" and our server then stormed off to the back after yelling at Bob "I WAS BEING POLITE!". Again, I want to thank Bob for his apology and his kindness and I want to thank the kitchen staff for making our meal, but after our server was so condescending about asking a simple question, we both lost our appetite and our date was ruined. I understand that some people could be having a bad day, but all our server had to say was "sorry, we don't have ranch here". But to go off on us and yell at us? That was uncalled for and completely unacceptable behavior. read more

Showed up more than one hour before closing and there were open tables, yet the hostess discouraged us from eating there and wouldn't seat us. The place was mostly full and it appeared to us that they just didn't want to work more on a Sunday. When you drive across town to eat at a restaurant they should honor their posted hours. I'd support another business. Vote with your feet. read more

The toppings on their pizza combinations are great and much lighter then other pizza spots tha would leave you feeling shlumped after. So I have been meaning to try this place for at least 3 years Lol. Pizza is not a priority for me but I guess the permanent closure of Pizza Rock left me without a GoTo pizza spot. Masullo is medium sized with tables not to close together. They are limited by the capacity of the pizza oven and if ordering Togo they will try to time your pick up according to the amount of orders in front of you. I tried the 3 meat and potato pizzas. The thin crust is crispy with good chew toppings are on the light side but both pizzas were delicious. Big eaters can finish a single pizza so plan accordingly. I am happy to know Masullo is in my neighborhood dishing out some craft pizzas. Come give this small business some love. read more

We got the 3 meats pizza and the American- both great choices. Such a light yet filling pizza. The service was good. I loved the chill environment and honestly they had adorable cups for the wine. It really is about the small details sometime. The dessert was fine, nothing too special in my opinion but it was good. The oatmeal cookie with currant was interesting. My friend and I wanted to meet up somewhere new to us to try, so we landed on this spot yesterday. We arrived around 5:45pm, and it was pretty peaceful and quiet at that time. It's an open dining space and you can see back into the open kitchen area, probably to show off their fire pizza oven. That was a good sign for me! I was also greeted and sat immediately, so that was cool because it wasn't too busy. She also brought us water glasses and a large jar of water. The actual space is very open, the floors are hard and walls are hard surfaces so voices carry very well in there and as foot traffic picks up it does get very loud. Definitely not a place for a quiet or intimate dinner or a calm place for a younger child, and not the place for a private conversation, but a fun place to catch up with friends or grab drinks and pizza. I ended up getting a Margherita style pizza because to me, the ultimate test is if you can make a Margherita style well then you can make any pizza. I was very impressed by the crust. To me, they have nailed the crust recipe perfectly. It was the perfect texture, had great flavor, and was the perfect thickness. The pizza had fresh basil but maybe just a couple leaves too few for the size of the pizza, the basil really enhances the flavor. For me the subpar parts were the tomato sauce and cheese. At a place like this I would expect the sauce and cheese to be a little more flavorful and cheese to be gooey and fresh. Now, this was still a delicious pizza and I have no regrets. I would just probably try a different pizza flavor here next time. The service was a little slow at first when the dining area was slow, but the traffic definitely picked up dramatically as we sat eating and the service did not decline whatsoever so that was good. We weren't stuck waiting forever for a check, which is my pet peeve, and our food and drinks came out in good timing so I was happy with service and the kitchen in those regards. I would come here again overall and I would encourage people to try it for themselves! read more

I haven't been in here since before the pandemic and they have definitely remodeled to be bigger. There's a banquet room now. The meatball app or maybe it's a side? It's super good. I got the pasta of the day and it was delicious! The pizzas here are good too - woodfired in a large oven. The people who work here are super nice, some of the customers could use some help though. There was a man who was basically trying to bully use out of our table because we were a smaller party at a large table. The waitress was really sweet and asked us to move but the man was grumpy and rude and gave us dirty looks as we moved tables. Props to the waitress for handling that well. read more

Man, this place is so so good so fire and food absolutely phenomenal so delicious. Their starter bread is like 17 year old. Do it is amazing. The meatballs are to die for straight grandma's recipe from Italy such delicious meatballs. Oh my God just come get a meatball service is good. Nice selection of beer, but they only have canned beer. Their salads are amazing. Delicious salads fire brick oven. It's really unique, elegant spot. Good Italian food great Italian flavor. Their marinara sauce is awesome. Masullo's is a modern pizza establishment with excellent quality pizza. The open air environment lends itself to you being consumed by the aroma of freshly baked pizza as soon as you enter. On this visit, I ordered the rosemary bread with oil, meatballs, Eileen pizza, Elisa Pizza, and daily special pasta - Rigatoni with eggplant Ragu sauce. The rosemary bread was fresh and doughy. The meatballs were plated with a heap of fresh tomato sauce and dusted with Parmesan. The pizzas were decently sized ( appx 12" - definitely shareable) and had a thin crust with toppings that worked well. The pasta was cooked Al dente but I would have preferred a bit more sauce. Overall, I would suggest Masullo's to anyone looking for great pizza and comfortable ambience. read more

The tiramisu completely stole the show. It was made fresh, which I was initially unsure about since tiramisu usually sits for a while, but the texture was amazing because the ladyfingers still had a slight crispness to them. We took the rest home, and after firming up overnight it was somehow even better the next day. Honestly the best tiramisu I've ever had. Great food, great service, and I'll definitely be back, even though I'm usually not even a huge Italian food fan.

Unpasteurized cheese is unsafe to consume for immunocompromised individuals and it was very important to confirm if the cheese was pasteurized. Unfortunately, the waiter did not offer to find out if the cheese was pasteurized so my wife requested it on the side and was unable to consume it. Complimentary focaccia bread was served with olive oil that contained Italian seasoning and parmesan cheese. The focaccia bread was the perfect consistency as it was not too soft or dense. The salad was served timely, however the pasta and pizza took a whopping 50 minutes to be served! No cheese or chili flakes were offered for the pizza. After the food was served the waiter did not check on us and we had to flag him down to get more water, parmesan cheese, and chili flakes for the pizza. The Favorita was an arugula salad that contained asparagus, yellow beets, and thin sliced radish. It was served with a large parmesan crostini which complimented the salad well and was a scrumptious addition. The Pizza Rustica contained artichoke hearts, spinach, tomatoes and cheese. The toppings were lacking as there were few small artichoke hearts, tomatoes, and a bare sprits of spinach. When I eat pizza I expect toppings in every bite, however there were only a few toppings per slice which was an extreme disappointment. The Fettuccine Pesto Fresco did not have a strong basil taste as I would expect from pesto. The fettuccine also tasted overcooked as the noodles were too soft. When I called to make a reservation I noted we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and was told that something special would be done in celebration. Since no one wished us a happy anniversary or made any mention of it my wife asked one of the servers if they do anything for anniversaries. They ended up providing a gelato with a sparkler in the center and took our picture. The strawberry gelato was tasty and the sparkler provided a neat affect. We were presented with our picture to commemorate the special occasion.

UPDATE: The manager reached out and resolved the issue regarding the overcharge. I really appreciate them taking the time to follow up and make things right. Thank you for the great customer service and attention to the matter. We enjoyed the food and look forward to visiting again in the future.

My partner had the linguine mare chiaro, which was also just okay. The sauce tasted bland and one-dimensional, and the seafood did not stand out at all. We gave the tiramisu a chance hoping dessert might redeem the meal, and while it was the best part of the dinner, it was still only fine overall.
