TERRIBLE SERVICE. DO NOT bring your car here!!! AAA suggested I bring my car there because it was the closest place they could tow too near my destination. I dropped it off over a week ago and they never once called me to update me.. I've had to call every time to find out what is going on. Every time I call there's a new part they need to get that puts it off more days. I had a broke brake line and they are saying it won't be done until 11 days after I turned it in. We brought our Nissan Altima to Master Auto after seeing so many positive reviews for it via Maps Google search. This is a really cozy, Christian family owned auto shop. They treat you kindly, and with respect, and I can't complain about the big comfy couch in the waiting area. The customer napping in the waiting area told us that she has been a loyal customer for 22 years. That really says something in these days of swindling and crooked auto shops. After a recent tie rod installation, we felt that the Altima needed a front wheel alignment. When they saw that it didn't need one, they only charged us a small diagnostic fee and were honest in telling us that no alignment was needed. Many shops out there would have just done the alignment and charged us, or worse, exploited the already optimal alignment and act as if they aligned it since we requested one be done. We decided to put the diagnostic fee towards replacing the old and worn drive belt anyway, which also was a fair price. There may be some shops that are cheaper than Master Auto, but the cool thing about this place is that the folks really know what they're doing and they're honest people. They won't recommend you to do anything the car doesn't need. I would rather pay a middle of the road rate with a high caliber and honest shop, rather than be woo'ed by cheap shops that will falsify a laundry list of issues and scam you of hard earned money! We will definitely be returning to Master Auto for our vehicular needs! This is a great dealership replacement shop. read more

I have use Master Auto Service dozens & dozens of times for all of my personal & Business vehicles. I have found them always knowledgeable, reasonable, and Honest. Honest is the key thing. They always let me know what was wrong, what may go wrong soon, and in the case of my children s cars, whether a repair was worth it or not. These people are honest folks. They are human and can make mistakes but would never do anything to cheat a customer. I'm a former mechanic that left the field because of the pressure to do unnecessary work. These folks are not in that category. Hard to find and stay away from the chains. I was in and out, they did a great job and are honest (not over charging me compared to the other places I called and got quotes from) everyone was very kind and They worked with the small window of time I had in order to get my car done and get me back to work on time! I have been in the greater Detroit area for just over a year and have found myself ripped off by many shops which drove me to drive my car often in not safe conditions back to the east lansing area to have work done. I would not recommend Master Auto Service to anyone. We have been in an ordeal with them that has lasted almost a year. They completely messed up the brake job on our vehicle and changed the wrong wheel bearing. We drive an Audi. In March 2014, we first took our vehicle in because the brake light came on but there was no noise or anything. They told us we had 30% life left in our brakes, and that the brake fluid just needed topped off. They supposable topped off the brake fluid. They also informed us that one of the rear wheel bearing needed fixed. Later in March 2014, we took our vehicle back to them and they fixed the rear wheel bearing and topped off the brake fluid. In April 2014, we took our vehicle to them to change the brakes. We just wanted to be on top of maintenance, at this point in time our brakes are working great and making no sounds. They recommended we change the rotors but told us ours still look good. We took their advice. As soon as I picked up the car and drove home, I heard the brakes making noise. I called Master Auto and set up a new appointment. At the end of April 2014, we took our Audi back and they changed the front brake pads. I drove around the block and IMMEDIATELY heard HORRIBLY LOUD SQUEAKING. I went right back and they told me it would go away after about 500 miles. We call them at the start of June 2014, and let them know we drove 500 miles and our brakes are still squeaking. We set up an appointment and also arrange for them to fix my left front wheel bearing. They noted they changed the rear but assure me when I called that they fixed the front wheel bearing. They inspected the rotors and decided that the original rotors they put on are too small. They ordered larger rotors. End of June 2014, we go back in and they put on new front rotors and brake pads. Once again we immediately notice that the car is not driving well. We schedule yet another appointment. Our car is now SHAKING when we drive. Middle of July, we take our Audi back to them, and they replace the brake rotors again. The rotors still make noise and our car is shaking when we drive. We try a few other things to see if that is what is wrong over the course of a couple of months. Finally, we file a dispute with our credit card provider once we determine the service we received at Master Auto is the cause of all our problems Then, Master Auto calls us first tells us that everything we are saying is wrong. They do not listen when I speak, but finally start being respectful when speaking with my spouse. They listen to what he has to say. We agree to bring in our vehicle and they will look at it in October. They agree to rent us a vehicle. Once we bring it in, everything goes wrong from the get go. JOHN is extremely RUDE and does not honor what Wes said on the phone to us. He was really dismissive of our concerns and acted like nothing was seriously wrong with our vehicle. John refused to pay for the rental we agreed on. It ends up taking up 4 HOURS to drop off our car and get the rental we agreed to. Wes ends up sitting down with us and going over the service history for like an hour. We end up leaving for a scheduled trip 5 HOURS late due to the further inconvenience. We leave if there for the weekend. Essentially, they balance the tires on our vehicle. They never address the brakes except to say that they can't hear them make noise. They determine that they changed the other rear wheal bearing cause the mechanic "remembers" when they looked at our car and try to tell us that they diagnosed it correctly even though they did not fix the wheel bearing we brought it in to have fixed. Within 100-200 miles, you can hear the brakes making noise and the car vibrating. They tried to make it look like they fixed the problem when they really didn't. They repeatedly tell us that we are wrong throughout this process. It is now Jan. and our brakes are still making noise, which they never did before we brought our vehicle into them. You can still feel a slight vibration when driving and braking. We have no desire for them to ever lay hands on our vehicle again. They never believed what we said, they argued with us and told us we were wrong, and they never fixed the problem. Our vehicle is worse off for having gone to them. They were also very admit that they did not want us to write a negative review, but you all who are reading this deserve to know that we tried to work with this business, and went in 7 times for a brake job that they never correctly completed, and were still left with a mess. We wasted hours of our lives that we will never get back, and we paid them over $1,000 for poor service. They never offered to refund our money. In the end, even after trying to work with them, we were left with a huge problem. DON'T TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO MASTER AUTO!! Disappointed given others positive reviews. My brake work was not completed correctly. I had to return my vehicle to have the squeaking noise repaired after the i the service. Less than a year later, I question the quality of the parts used as the brakes were bad again with normal driving and not too many miles subsequent the original survive. What nice people. The heater in my son's car stopped working. I spoke with John, the owner, and took it to him at Master Auto. He checked out the car, told me of the problem and said it was not a problem he could fix as it necessitated the removal of the entire dash. He gave me a referral to another shop. John did not charge me for the inspection. That is pretty amazing in this day and age. John has just won a new customer and will be getting all of my family cars for service. read more

This Automobile Maintenance shop is AMAZING! First, the lobby is incredibly clean, which was incredibly appreciated due to my assistant (read that: 5 year old daughter). Next, everyone is incredibly polite, friendly, and honest. I appreciated being told exactly what was wrong with my car, what didn't need to be done, and what was highly recommended. Since my daughter and I were waiting, they had 2 gentlemen work on my car to speed up the wait time (which was completely unexpected but highly appreciated). Then afterwards, they even reduced some of the labor charges due to the fact that other work had required the tire to be removed anyway, he claimed it wasn't right to charge me for work that was already done. I have been taking my cars to master auto for years. John has always treated me with respect and given me a good price. The last time i took my car there they gave me a great quote, it turned out they needed different parts after getting into the job yet they still gave me the quote price. My fiance took her car there 8 years ago, telling john that her parents were paying to fix it no matter what and to just fix it ( this is after her car was botched by another place) john called her back and said he would love to do the work, but it was not worth it to put that much money into this car. he could have just done the work and got a lot of work, but he did the right thing and gave us a recommendation that in the end was best for us, because of this we have trusted john and his staff for the past 9 years without fail and he has never done us wrong. you can go anywhere to get your car fixed, but if you want the best service and advice you should go to master auto read more

It is such a relief to have finally found a reputable and reliable mechanic! Fortunately, we have only had to take our vehicles in a few times, but each time the repairs were performed quickly and at a fair price. In fact, the first time we brought our Ford Explorer in, it was to get a "second opinion" relative to some "mandatory repairs" that the dealership told us we needed to have done. After a thorough vehicle inspection, John said that he did not feel we needed to have those repairs done and that the vehicle was completely safe. Master Auto Service did a great job on a recent auto repair on my 12-year-old, no-longer-sold-in-the-U.S. Toyota. I was lucky to first learn about them a few years ago from a recommendation on the Car Talk website. When my car suddenly began making loud noises in two different ways, I remembered them, and am I glad I did. I dropped my car off on a Sun. evening with a note, expecting to need to rent a car for a few days. Instead, I received a call before 10 a.m. the next morning, stating they'd already diagnosed the problem! And the repairs were completed, at a reasonable price for both repairs combined, by noon! I will definitely seek them out again for further maintenance on my junker and recommend them to others. I'm normally suspicious of seeing 5-star reviews on sites like Yelp, but they certainly deserve it this time. A good, honest auto shop is worth more than gold. read more
