I have had a membership with this facility in the Richmond office from the beginning of their opening. They closed in early November with no warning to their members!! They did automatic deductions for their members. So many people have lost money. Contacting their corporate office is of no use. It's sad that a business would do this to the community. read more

First of all Thank you to my boyfriend sister for gifting us with Spa for Christmas... Lol I never been to a spa nor had any physical therapy so just imagine how tense I was lol. Upon entry Caitlyn greeted us and was very attentive and friendly when it came to our appointment. She was very patient when it came to me filling out my disclaimer as I didn't receive one upon the arrival. They have a kiosk to use for filling out your information and they ask personal health questions for anyone who may have certain symptoms and need different attention to certain areas. I like how quick and easy it was when it came to filling out the information. The Lobby was empty and we were immediately seated in the waiting room where they had fresh orange water that was very fulfilling and tasty. We were then greeted by two massage therapist one male one female. I received the male(Dontè) who was again very friendly and open.What I liked about Dontè was not only that he was good at what he do but he talked the whole massage as some people like quiet, sleep, read and or listen to music. I like to talk so we had a very good session! The time didn't pass fast while i was having a good time at all lol. He slowed it down for me and got deep into my tissue as that was my request. Upon his entrance before the massage he asked me about myself and what type of massage i requested for the evening!! The atmosphere was such a vibe and it was a different experience as it was me and boyfriend first massage. They definitely set the bar high. I would like to try a facial next time. So, I believe I had left a previous review some years ago after a bad experience with a female masseuse based on the fact that she had, during the massage, kept asking me questions about public school and college (As she was home schooled), and eventually religion; When she learned I wasn't of the same faith as herself, she finally said "Why don't we just be quiet for the rest of the massage", which was a very veiled way of saying "I dislike that you're not in my faith, I have preconceived notions and judgements about yours and though I brought it up and asked, I'm offended, so shut up." I wasn't the only person she did this to, and she'd commented she "wasn't able to make money" as a masseuse in our area--I'm guessing I am not the first or last person who decided the best way of letting her know they were displeased was by way of not leaving a tip (Which is EXTREMELY rare for me.) This masseuse is no longer employed with the company. The atmosphere is calm, clean, and relaxing, playing gentle music, using light dimmers, and having a waiting area after check in with spa water and nice chairs. The massages are great, but remember to communicate! My masseuse did a fantastic job with my serious knots, which are so bad I'm having to also seek medical treatment; It says a lot that the masseuses here can provide relief far better and faster than medical treatment has been able to. I'm familiar with the Massage Luxe business model and had a membership in the past. I have no complaints about how it works-pay a monthly price and get one massage a month and UNLIMITED use of the Hydroluxe table. I was happy to find one near my current work contract and started another membership right away. I literally go in and use the Hydroluxe almost every day before and after my 12 hour shifts. I especially love how you can "freeze" your membership, which I did quite a bit when I was a broke nursing student. You still get charged $5/month but you can use the Hydroluxe daily. Also, the $5 payments add up and are credited toward your membership payment when you unfreeze. So it's like layaway for massage. Now as a travel nurse I can freeze membership if I do a contract that isn't close enough to a Massage Luxe for me to get monthly massages. But the reason I'm writing this review is to say how AMAZING my massage with Matt was today! He listened to my preferences and gave me exactly the massage I wanted with the perfect pressure and using my favorite techniques. I highly recommend this business for their super friendly and helpful desk staff and for Matt! I've only seen one other therapist there (unfortunately he is why this review is four stars, not five), but Matt will be my go to therapist for the rest of my time in this area! read more

I made an appointment on April 4, 2024 for my boyfriend to get a birthday massage on April 26, 2024. I received an email on April 25th asking me to confirm the appointment. I called and confirmed the same day with the receptionist and thought everything was fine. On April 26th, I arrived 20 minutes before my boyfriend to make sure everything was ready for his arrival. Long story short, the receptionist could not find the appointment and went and got the manager. Then the manager tells me that 2 massage therapist called out that morning. The only appointment they had was for 2:00 p.m. with a man and our appointment was for 12:00 p.m. with a woman. The manager also offered my boyfriend a complimentary facial, which my boyfriend refused. I was not satisfied with the service. I've been to Massage LUXE 2 times before and never had a problem. I came across this place because of Groupon, and cause it seemed close enough to where I lived that I wanted to try and find something where I could often go to when I need to destress from school work and actual work. I got the Groupon deal of a standard hour massage (they did have a deluxe option, but I wanted to see what I was getting myself into). The appointment setup was pretty easy, I called - mentioned the Groupon deal and got my appointment easily set up. I read the reviews before going to the place and I sadly have to agree that I agree with some of them. The massage that I had was just mediocre and the room that I was in was FREEZING - I just did not enjoy it as much as I thought it would. At the end of the massage, I did get to try their Hydromassage bed. If you attend a Crunch gym, they have the same bed there. At the end of the massage, they will try to get you to enroll into some sort of membership program where the next appointment will be $10, but then the next month will be $58 (or something close to that). There's no contract involved, but I've had bad experiences with that before and I just didn't want to do it (there's a marketing technique to this). I said I couldn't agree to do it because I just have to review the budgeting with my husband before fully committing to something like this. The lady at the front just kept pushing and pushing and kept asking the same questions in different ways such as "What is holding you back from signing up today?", "Once you walk out that door, this deal is expired and you won't get this opportunity again." "Why not sign up for today to set up the next appointment for only $10, and then worry about the next massage/appointment later?" Once I finally made it clear that I did not want to sign up, she did not like it. At that point, I just tried to get out of there as soon as I could. **UPDATE** - Management made the situation below right, but I still want to leave the details so others can be sure to avoid similar pitfalls. Place is new and clean, but the thing most important with a good massage - the service and quality - are lacking. I had a noon appointment and showed up 15 minutes early as it was my first time here, and I knew there would be some paperwork to fill out. I filled everything out and was done right at noon. I was quickly taken back to the room and the masseuse (Kimberly) asked me what we were doing today - despite the fact that I had just listed some preferences out on their electronic iPad intake system - and then left the room for me to undress and get ready. She was gone longer than necessary, and was not back into the room until I'd say 12:10. When she returned, the massage begun and was immediately underwhelming. I had asked her for firm pressure and said that I would let her know if it was too much, but she clearly did not have the same idea of "firm" that I did. I could have said something but was trying to relax, and honestly shouldn't have had to anyway. The worst part however was when suddenly - very quickly, it seemed - the massage was over, and she was letting me know "I was all set". I did not have my glasses on so couldn't see the clock, but then after I put them on and checked my phone, I couldn't believe it... 12:48. It's as if they had started some sort of clock from the time I arrived early to fill out my paperwork and considered my "60 minute massage" to begin as soon as I stepped in the door?? Very poor form. I said something immediately after leaving the room, asking my masseuse if somehow the 60 minute massage was 45 minutes of massage and then 15 minutes of the "hydroluxe dry water massage" which was advertised as included with a 60 min massage to round out the hour, but she said no, that the massage portion was really just shortened "because of the time it took to fill out the paperwork". Wtf? I showed up early for my noon appointment to specifically fill out the paperwork, and now supposedly that time is part of my "60 minute" massage that ends at 12:48? Absolute garbage. Obviously too late at this point to really do anything about it... it's not like I'm going to go back in there and undress again for my last 12 minutes... just pathetic. Then to put a cherry on it all, I had to wait over 20 minutes just to get my "bonus" 15 minutes of the hydroluxe dry water massage table... which they apparently only have one of? Gimmicky and just plain annoying if you're lining lots of people up to use it who have to wait longer than they even use it for. With that said, the table was very enjoyable! I probably got more out of the 15 minutes on it than I did out of my "60 minute" massage. One oddity though is that the room this is in is right by the very bright lobby and has a transparent glass door on it. Lets tons of light flood into what should be a pretty relaxing room - I'd definitely either black it out or considerably tint it for a better experience. All said, this place is clean and new like I said. But it's just trash when a massage place charges you for 60 minutes and delivers effectively 48. I won't be back unless a complimentary re-do is offered and they show that they actually deliver the full hour to their customers who arrive on time or even early for their appointments. I was tempted by their Grand Opening special to try it out. The location is beautiful. It's designed for relaxation and comfort. The lounge has water or hot tea so that you can transition from the outside world to your zen zone. They have some sort of air freshener in there that doesn't agree with me though. I am not chemically sensitive. I don't run at the smell of scent, but this wasn't great. There is a hydromassage water bed that you can try. This is a dry bed that you lay on while warm jets of water spray your backside. The speed, intensity, and length of the body is fully adjustable by the client. This was an interesting perk. I hadn't tried that before. It did a good job, but the noise was not conducive to relaxation. I was ready for it to end before it did. Now for the main event. I have to confess. I have a regular masseur and he is the bomb. When I get off the table after he's been working on me, it literally takes me about twenty minutes to feel fully present again. So, I don't expect anyone to live up to those standards. It's hard to judge the talent of anyone compared to him because he is just THAT good. So, keeping that in mind, the woman who did my massage was just okay. She was very attentive and asked how I was doing. My impression was that she wasn't that experienced though. Could be wrong. Standing next to the Massage Master they all probably look like rookies. Still, it was relaxing. The staff was friendly and professional. I would definitely try it at least once. There is lots to recommend it. Don't forget to try the hyrdomassage table. I think that some people would probably fall in love with that thing. read more

As others have said, there's high pressure to get a membership. Young girls at the front desk aren't really all that knowledgeable. Most of the facials in the brochure are "not available". One I had felt ok during session but nothing lasted after I left the business. Atmosphere was good and relaxing and the business is clean. When they run specials on holidays such as Mother's Day they will tell you you can buy more than one gift cards for yourself and then when you go to use more than one they tell you you can't use it on yourself. I called to cancel the membership and was told that I would still have to pay $20/month just to freeze my account so I wouldn't lose the hours I've accumulated (I'm up to 15.) So you're telling me that I have to pay once to purchase the time, then pay again to use it? Wtf?? Then if I want to gift a massage, I have to pay $20 for that too? I am going to get a massage every week until I've used up my hours and then this company will NEVER get another dime from me!! And to top it off, the technicians are not even that great! First Time Horrible Experience I am just leaving MassageLux in Richmond, VA, redeeming my Groupon and I had a horrible experience. I went in at noon EST (5/16/2018) and the young lady at the front desk redeemed my groupon for a 1 hour massage. She gave me a tablet to fill out their medical questions. Upon completion, the massage therapist took the tablet and asked if there were any areas that I would like for her to avoid. I told her that I have port in my chest from chemo and to avoid my chest. She then asked how long ago did I have chemo and I told her that it's been about 6 to 8 weeks. The lady informed me that she couldn't proceed with the massage because I would have to wait 6 months. The massage therapist told me that I should be able to get a refund at the front desk and she then walked me back up front (as she explained how the chemo medicine stays in your body for about 6 months). As we get to the front, she shared with the front desk associate the situation and I had also answered all the questions on the tablet stating that I had cancer. The front desk associate then told me that unfortunately she can't give me a refund based on it being a groupon and that I would have to contact Groupon for any further assistance. She stated that she will place notes in the system if needed to confirm in order to give me a refund. I went to the MassageLux in Richmond and their contact number is (804)332-5006. This situation has added additional unnecessary stress to me. The front desk associated then reached out to Quinton (who I assume is the manager/owner) and he confirmed what was being said. I appreciate the information given to me that I should wait 6 months, but I would like a total refund or a store credit could've been offered. There was no empathy shown by the front desk associate nor the manager (Quinton). I viewed their website and there is no information visible to me that states chemo patients have to wait 6 months. This was the worst massage I have ever experienced starting with the very light strokes that I was given. I paid for a deep tissue massage signature massage and I was so disappointed. Upon leaving the salon The receptionist asked me how it was and I told her OK her reply to me just OK and I said yes - just OK I have never experienced a massage like this! I found out after leaving the place that my husband experienced the same. He paid for with the hot stones but didn't receive the treatment and what was supposed to be a full body one hour massage for him turned out to be an upper body only no hands no arms no legs no lower back-just shoulders and upper back. Massage person was late to pick us up to start and had the wrong name for my husband. Took us to the couple's room, asked a few questions and left us time get changed They were gone so long I seriously thought they forgot us. They finally come back and start My husbands massuse started to cough. Ok people are humans. Then the snifffling started and more coughing After 10 minutes I had to stop the massage Nothing relaxing about being in a closed space with a sick person. I should've read the reviews first! Well, unfortunately I had a similar experience as others. I arrived at 2:35pm for my 3:00 pm appointment. My "1 hour, deep tissue massage" didn't begin until 3:05 pm and it ended at 3:50pm. The "hot towel" portion was a joke. She simply put a warm "hand size" towel over my back and immediately rolled it up and put it away. There was never a time during this God awful massage that any deep, firm pressure was applied. No consideration was given to any of my trouble spots that I "clearly" stated before the session. "Georgia" spent more time wiggling each of my toes and doing this weird, creepy lotion-rubbing to my thighs that I've never experienced before. It was as though she was lotioning a newborn. Her draping technique (or shall I say, the lack thereof) was soooo wrong. I kept peeking at the clock hoping that my time would end soon. When she finished, I got dressed in 2.2 seconds. Then when I'm being checked out, the front desk admin asked "how was it". I simply stated,"okay". Then they asked if I wanted to come back and did I want to leave a gratuity. My answer was "no,because I was underwhelmed!" I could not wait for this entire experience to end. I didn't even bother to have the Hydroluxe session which was a part of my Groupon. This was the worst part of what should've been a relaxing start to my weekend. I've had many great massages from Groupon from qualified therapists. But this was a joke. I, like many of the other Yelpers in this forum, experienced this place via a Groupon Coupon. Hmmm... I'm a little ambivalent about it. It's a nice place... the decor was pleasant and it smelled good and clean when I walked in. (I liked that!) There was a gentleman that greeted me at the door and he was friendly and professional... not pushy. He got me back to my room for the massage timely. The massage was ok. I asked for a deep tissue massage, but about 10 minutes in, it became somewhat painful. So much so, I had to ask for her to be a little gentler. (I knew it was going to be interesting when I heard my back crack as soon as the massage started.) The therapist was really nice...I really liked her, but she was VERY chatty. She seemed to lose focus on the massage as the conversation continued. I can be chatty too, but massages are supposed to leave you relaxed and carefree. But lawd, when I left, I was thinking about work, my bills, kids I don't have...and everything else that was stressful in my life!! Chuckle. No, but seriously. If zero stars was an option I would have chosen it. I am someone who regularly gets massages and decided to give this place a try and help out a local business. Big mistake! The whole business is run so unprofessionally. From the time I walked in the door the staff were rude and not friendly or helpful then the massage itself was less then mediocre. The overall experience here has led me to never go back and strongly discourage anyone from wasting their money at this "business" I also had purchased a gift massage for my mother at the same time as mine which she used later and had an even worse experience. I've had 3 massages by 3 different ppl,1 dude & 2 chicks..the dude was good but the Lady's were great..Lindsey was super great,she's my fav! And Charley was great too,shes my next fav,lol. The place is very relaxing,dim lights and pleasant staff..I didn't notice any odd smell like the other reviewer mentioned,I guess it did have a "smell" but it wasn't overwhelming or nasty,it was a nice calming smell I guess, lol..u get to use the hydro massage table when ever u want and I always use it b4 I leave..it's a black table with warm water jets traveling up and down your body spraying water at what ever speed & intensity you like..i love it..u can read,play games or listen to music on the screen attached 2 the table or jus zone out like I do..the sound of the water jets is soothing,kinda like white noise, it puts me to sleep..the ppl who do the massages are professional & do everything 2 insure your privacy..some of them put more into their massages then others,I've had 3 different ppl,but they all do a great job and want you to be satisfied with your massage..im totally in love with this place and recommend you give it a try..*this was not a paid advertisement* LMAO but seriously give it a try ,u won't b disappointed..and p.s. ask for Lindsey or Charley :-) read more
