She started out by walking on me and then I asked for focus to be on my lower back and hamstrings and she was fabulous. 5/5 45min Sauna Wrap this was such a unique service offering and it felt so good on my muscles especially after an amazing deep tissue massage. I will say that the 45 min did feel a little long but I might just be a wimp. Normally I can only last 15min in a sauna. The first 20min I was asleep and then got a little toasty. But I was able air myself a little bit since they didn't fully zip me in. It's like she knew every part that needed extra TLC, and she gave it 100%, to the point that I felt badly if she was over-exerting herself. I can only imagine the wear and tear that such dedicated massage therapists develop over time, so I really just want to give Jean endless gratitude for healing this seemingly broken body of mine. Usually with massages, it feels like just when I'm about to get relief, the massage therapist moves on the next body part and glosses over it in a hurried way, that before I know it, the 50 minutes is up and I'm aching for more relief. I live with chronic pain, hold an incredible amount of tension in my traps that by the end of the week, I usually can barely turn my neck without wincing in pain. I've paid for memberships at local places not because I'm trying to be bougie, but because I really am just so desperate for relief. After moving to the South Bay a couple years ago, I've done memberships at Massage Revolution and the new Now Massage location. As much as I wanted to love these places, I've cycled through nearly all of their massage therapists in the hopes of finding "the one," an experiences have been really hit or miss. I kept coming back just because, again, I needed my dose of relief. But not anymore. I will be a loyal client of Thai Body Works for the foreseeable future, hopefully returning to Jean as long as she'll have me. Unlike other places where the massage feels too short-lived, with Jean, it felt like she devoted a luxurious eternity to all my sore spots, tending to them in various forms: first with hands and elbows (done in such an intuitive, therapeutic manner), traditional Thai style with stepping, more focused massage, and a treat at the end with hot stones, warm towels, and stretching. Right when I thought she surely spent more than enough time on me, she had me turn and gave me just the same amount of therapeutic attention all over again. She was so attuned to my body, that I seriously couldn't have envisioned a better massage. As soon as I walked in, the woman at the front desk immediately asked, "You have money?" in a rude and dismissive tone. I confirmed that I did, yet she rolled her eyes and looked at me strangely. As a Hispanic woman, the interaction felt judgmental and discriminatory from the start. I paid with my debit card and was charged a processing fee. She led me to the massage room and told me to undress, but left the door open, completely invading my privacy. The room was the first one near the lobby, meaning anyone walking in could see inside. I felt exposed and unsafe. During the massage, she was extremely rough. I told her multiple times that I was in pain, and although she would briefly stop, she would then continue doing the same painful motions. It honestly felt intentional. On top of that, she repeatedly left the room, and those interruptions still counted toward my paid time. Because the experience was uncomfortable and traumatic, I chose not to tip. She then followed me to the door, repeatedly saying "tip, tip," in a passive-aggressive manner. I reluctantly offered $5, but she used Google Translate to demand $10 instead. When I said no, she tried to charge me another processing fee and even got in my face and attempted to look at my bank account on my phone. That crossed a serious boundary. The entire experience felt sketchy, unprofessional, and unsafe. I would not recommend this place, especially to women. The environment did not feel welcoming, respectful, or legitimate.
