Working with Alli has made my overall wellness routine more effective and balanced. My goals are a long-term sustainable healthy lifestyle. Alli asked critical questions to learn about my health and fitness goals and listened to the areas that challenged me. We developed a simple weekly workout routine (including gym and outdoor activities, e.g., hiking and surfing) focused on the balance my body needed for weekly and long-term wellness. I am grateful for the four assessment tips I am mindful of in all activities. Without seeing Alli, these adjustments would have taken me years to realize and implement on my own, if ever. For that, I would have paid double. I suggest seeing Alli for an assessment, whether you are resolving a known challenge and or looking to improve your ability to explore our beautiful landscape via your passions.

Their new patient paperwork states that a $100 "Administrative Fee" is due at the time of evaluation, is not billed to insurance, and is charged "per case." I was told over the phone that different referral areas, such as cervical spine and lumbar spine, could be treated as separate cases. When I called for clarification, the office confirmed that this fee is for internal administrative tasks such as maintaining the patient profile, correspondence with doctors, referrals, and related office communications. They also confirmed it is charged in addition to insurance copays/coinsurance and is not billed to insurance because they consider it "non-medical." Patients using Tricare, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, or any in-network insurance plan should be very careful before paying this type of fee. For covered medical care, your patient responsibility should generally be determined by your insurance plan/EOB - such as copay, deductible, or coinsurance - not by a separate office-created "administrative," "access," or "per case" fee. Tricare/TriWest specifically told me that both the facility and PT were in-network for my plan and that contracted providers may not charge beneficiaries separate administrative, concierge, or access fees for medical services. The Tricare/TriWest Provider Handbook states: "Providers may not charge TRICARE beneficiaries administrative fees." This is especially concerning for elderly, disabled, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and military-family patients who may assume that if a front desk asks for payment, they are legally required to pay it. Before paying any separate fee like this, I strongly recommend calling your insurance plan and asking: Is this provider in-network for my exact plan? Are they allowed to collect a separate administrative/access fee in addition to my copay, deductible, or coinsurance? Should I pay anything that is not shown as my responsibility on an EOB? I cannot speak to the quality of the physical therapy itself because I canceled before being seen. But I did not feel comfortable receiving care from a practice that required this type of fee and did not respond to my written questions asking what non-covered service the fee was for.

However, I started noticing some muscle imbalance issues and pain that needed attention before they became worse. I took the big step and joined as a full client. In my assessment, they looked at my strengths and weaknesses, and wrote me up a plan specific for me and what I needed. The trainers are all amazing. I never feel like I'm just killing myself with the work out... I feel more like little steps that build me into a stronger person. Workouts are easy to schedule, the physical therapist that treat you are both incredible. I tell them they have "healing hands." All the trainers and clients are so friendly. The issue is administrative - Sutter dictates that you can only make two appointments in a row instead of scheduling further out. The problem is that very often there is no availability. My therapist has instructed me to return weekly, but, for me, half the time the appointments end up being every two weeks. That has made it more difficult for me to meet my treatment goals - the therapist says we will add something new next week, but it ends up being two weeks later. That not only means that it takes much longer to complete your treatment, but the long gaps can lead to a less successful result. Update: I found this note in my Sutter chart: This patient got all rude as soon as she couldn't get an appt when SHE wanted. She is non post op and doesn't understand why Sutter Health has a policy of only 2 appts at a time when SHE needs to get in. She said she wrote a bad review about our practice and will continue to talk bad about our practice, but not the therapists. She is very unhappy and says she will probably look elsewhere. It is not like it was a matter of my convenience and I insisted on mornings when they offered afternoons or I wanted a Monday and they offered a Tuesday. I was trying to comply with my therapist's instructions to return weekly - it had nothing to do with what "I" wanted - but it is true, I don't understand why they only make two appointments ahead. I have had lots of PT over the years and they have always scheduled multiple appointments at the start of treatment and sometimes even all of the appointments for the duration of the treatment plan. In addition, I absolutely did not say that I talked "bad" about the practice. What I said is that I could not recommend it to others because of the way they schedule appointments. I stand by that opinion, and I should I need PT in the future I will absolutely seek care elsewhere.

If you know anything at all about myofascial pain syndrome, or MPS, it's this: if you suffer from it, you just want it gone. (I had endured it in my neck for over two decades.) Maybe you've tried physical therapy already with little to no results. Or you've been attempting self-manipulation techniques such as a Theracane or a foam roller. I now use these tools for maintenance in addition to physical therapy because no one technique could achieve what Dr. Brook Phillips has done for me in a relatively short period of time. In January 2025, Dr. Amit Nathani performed a reverse total shoulder replacement and bicep tenodesis on my right side. Both of these procedures were highly successful, way beyond my expectations. However, taking into consideration my age of 67, and this not being my first joint replacement, coupled with Rheumatoid Arthritis and a lifetime of bad posture, the recovery from this has been absolute hell. I'm now at 10 months post-surgery. I fully intend to reach '100%' again, but I can't say when. I still have some weakness. Recently, I pushed it too far and had to stop everything completely, but the therapeutic devices. Dr. Brook anticipated my needs and pain relief goals not only in the hands-on therapy but for post-therapy management as well. I'm positive that without his excellent care, I would not have progressed this far so successfully. When I say "so successfully", I mean with so much reduction in the pain department. It literally improves every couple of days and rarely regresses. When I say "progressed this far," let me tell you what that really means: I now have perfectly relaxed shoulders, my back is straight, my hips are tucked in, and I walk with a normal gait. Before this, if you take every physical aspect I just mentioned and imagine it at its worst, that is what I had. And along with all those conditions came a lot of pain. But as Dr. Brook addressed my physical limitations and, one by one, removed them, I was able to restructure how I carry myself. And along with the lower back pain that was always in the background, and the painful left knee scraping that required injections, the punishing MPS- all of these painful limitations are gone now. And it started really with the therapy for the shoulder recovery, but he just naturally moved into addressing anything else that was causing me pain. You wouldn't believe how back pain affects other parts of your body! I am immensely grateful for Dr. Brook. You must believe me when I say I know physical therapy: I was in a devastating car wreck 40 years ago, and I've had a lot of PT since then. Recently, I asked him, "Are foam rollers new? Because with all my issues, why did no therapist ever suggest using one? It has helped me tremendously." He said, "No, they aren't new." Then he confessed that every therapist has a different technique... But I know what is really going on here. It's the DPT and OCS after his name that give Dr. Brook distinction and are the reason for my success. I went in for a bit of therapy after surgery, and ended up addressing nearly every other issue that was currently giving me pain. Being able to manage the pain with tools that I now have at my disposal is something huge for me. Thank you, Dr. Brook
