We were seated right away, it wasn't busy at 5pm on a Thursday. We sat at a table in the front window, in the bar area. Both ordered off the specials menu. Delicious.

Buffalo Beef on Weck

This is a nice little hidden gem in the Village of Hamburg. When you first walk in there's a small bar with a few high top tables, the back of the place is the restaurant dining area. The hostess that sat us was very friendly as was our waitress. I had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with house chips and my wife had a beef on weck sandwich with the chips as well. The chicken sandwich was served on a fresh roll and was not terribly hot but tasty. I sampled a bite of the weck sandwich and thought it was on the dry side but good. My wife also had a delicious crock of French onion soup. Before our food arrived we were given a basket of fresh, hot rolls with butter that had some spices on it. The rolls weren't bad, not the best we have ever tasted but edible. This is definitely a place we would come back to and if we get the weck again we will have a side of au jus with it.

Really enjoyed it here. Hidden gem of Hamburg. Food was upscale and made well. Scallops were delicious. Roasted chicken had a delicious Dijon sweet glaze. The filet was cooked to request (not the best cut but still good). The drinks were made very well. We were impressed by how well the Manhattans were made. The staff was extremely friendly. We are excited to go back and try more of the menu.

Service was excellent! The waitress was so friendly and on top of everything. The food was also good! We had the steak special and beef of Weck. The sandwich definitely needed the au jus since the roast beef was on the dry side. The rolls were amazing! We will absolutely be going back!

Roasted Red Pepper Bisque

We finally went to Mason's last Friday night and I'm glad we found a restaurant in the village that we'd return to besides The Grange. We arrived early - shortly after 5pm, and were informed by the friendly bartender Marlene that the dining room was fully booked for reservations, so we grabbed a bar table by the front windows. The tables are perfect for 2 people if you're having dinner or 3-4people if you're just having drinks. There's a quick draw screen right by our corner table which is always fun. If you happen to eat at the bar - they have these wooden trays that rest over the lip of the bar so you don't have to reach too far for your plate of food. I've never seen that before so I thought that was really cool! Since I am on my usual New Year's Resolution diet, I could not order any of the items I normally would get... clams casino, French onion soup (or clam chowder), garlic mussels, crab cakes, braised short rib, or maybe the fish fry, etc. so I just got a steak salad without blue cheese and dressing on the side. The steak was cooked to a true medium, and the quality was worth the price. My husband Moe started with a bowl of the roasted red pepper bisque which was a very large portion! I personally don't love any bell peppers so I probably wouldn't have ordered that for myself, but I tried some with a piece of the complimentary warm bread and it was pretty good. Surprisingly, Moe ordered my usual favorite - the braised short rib, which came with sautéed green beans and mashed potatoes. After giving me a bite of it (YUM), he cleaned the plate!!! Even though the entire bar area quickly filled up, Marlene was attentive and efficiently worked her way around all the tables. The atmosphere and decor were all very unassuming and cozy, and I could see ourselves stopping in more frequently in the future for a quick bite or casual drinks.

Rodeo burger. Hard to see the burger but it's there! That onion ring was HUGE

Wow. What a delicious meal. We're still talking about it the next day. We mostly do take out so we were very excited to get a night out with kids. We had a 6 PM reservation and were seated right away. Our waitress was wonderful. Friendly and very attentive. Our drinks came right away. We wanted to try the bacon wrapped BBQ wings first and she did let us know those take some time, (I appreciate the honesty!)but we still got them before our food thanks to our waitress timing everything perfectly. While waiting for our food I noticed how attentive every server was, and a man who I assume is the owner, check on every table. I appreciated that extra touch! We sat near the door to the kitchen and we watched the plates come out. Everything looked so GOOD. Wow. Those wings. YUM. The bacon was wrapped perfectly and stayed on neatly throughout each bite. They were incredible. The blue cheese was yummy too I got my favorite salad, the Pittsburgh salad. It's always a great choice. The Rivera dressing came out warm as it should(a lot of places skip this part but I think it's crucial to this salad. The waffle fries were perfectly crisp yet soft inside. This one is in my top 3 of places to go for this salad! My husband got the rodeo burger. He didn't say much while eating it, and that's how I know it was good it had a HUGE onion ring on top which looked incredible. We will be back to Masons Grille 52! We've tried most of the village restaurants now and this is our new fave!

French Onion

My first time here, on what I'd call the "Restaurant Row" In Downtown Hamburg. Reservations recommended; it was pretty busy for a Thursday night. Service: Friendly and sincere Food: French Onion / great presentation. The bread was very thin, the onions were sparse - but the broth was fantastic! Clam chowder / my guest loved it - "filled with clams" said he Halibut dinner special / the halibut was not seared enough to maximize the caramelization - it was good, but I wasn't "wowed," the basil/lemon infused risotto was over cooked, but the flavors were good - though they didn't "pop" - some lemon rind would have achieved this. The vegetable medley (thin sliced zucchini and summer squash) was somewhat slimy and very bland / not hard to fix - just some lazy cooking. I was going to have the Bourbon Pork Chop - perhaps I should have. Chicken Milanese / ordered by my guest - he enjoyed it. It was amusing that the server thought the homemade bread (rolls) was delicious because they were clearly not fresh nor were they good tasting. We passed on dessert. Prices: not bad - $$$ - we also used a $10 off coupon. Overall: I'm not likely to return unfortunately, but people seem to like it there. Perhaps I'm too picky.

Crab Cake Salad

Well, finally made it back for lunch with a group of friends. What a disaster. I hate to use the word, but the only way to describe our waitress is "inept". Problems in the kitchen as well. The smallest complaints would be the friend who ordered mussels not receiving some sort of side dish for the empty shells, and the friend who ordered a mild Bloody Mary receiving a hot one. One friend asked if her sandwich could be served grilled on marble rye instead of the roll listed on the menu. Server assured her that could be done. You guessed it. When it came, it was on a roll. Now I don't know if the order was written incorrectly or the cook screwed it up, but shouldn't she have noticed it before it got to the table? Back to the kitchen. Out it came on marble rye. But not grilled. Two of our party ordered the shaved prime rib sandwich. One received a shaved prime rib sandwich, and the other received something else. It was some sort of sandwich alright, but definitely not the shaved prime rib. Waitress was having a terrible time understanding what the mistake was. So confused! She was nice enough, but either needs more training or to find a new line of work. Sorry, but sometimes the truth hurts. My complaint? For $15, I expect lump crab meat in the crab cake, and the mixed greens promised on the menu, not a pile of iceberg lettuce. The best part of this salad was the wasabi ranch. Disappointing, Mason's.

First of all let me say this place is decorated beautifully. It looks like something concocted from a sweet daydream of a book lover. Their menu is not updated on any of their pages so I can't remember what I ordered. It was a cocktail that mixed crisp, dry white wine, some kind of spirit and club soda. It was refreshing, interesting and light yet had just enough flavor to make it unique. The service was good. There were 2 bartenders that night who were helpful, attentive and friendly. There are a few tables with umbrellas outdoors in the front. A bar and some tables on the first floor inside and a metal spiral staircase which has a few small tables on the 2nd floor. Def not a great place for groups. Try and come at an odd time to get a seat.

I'm glad I could taste all the ingredients and the Hard Whiskey flavor didn't overpower it. 5 minutes later I come back for another Drink, The Tilt-a-Whirl (Myer's Dark Rum, Cherry Brandy, Vermouth, Lime Juice, Pineapple Juice and garnished with a Cherry gummy candy on top). Now I never thought that these ingredients would describe one of the most popular rides at the Fair, but I wanted to give it a Whirl. I could taste everything in there except for the Vermouth. I didn't even pay attention to the Gummy Candy on top. I just finished my drink and then I went over to the Blue Ribbon Grill (see Review) to wait for my Food to be ready. The menu is very well marked for this option, and the waitress was very well versed regarding this. They utilize a dedicated gluten free fryer- so we were able to get the fish fries, including French fries and even had a gf macaroni salad available! All the food was well prepared and. delicious. They also had a GF dessert, but we didn't get it because we were stuffed from the generous portions. The only problem we had was that we had ordered regular macaroni and cheese for 2 of the children- this took longer to come to our table, than the fish fries. They were extremely apologetic and kept keeping us updated, and we were able to keep the children occupied, until their food arrived. We have come to the West End for several years and have always been very pleased with our meals and being able to get Gluten Free meals and feeling confident that the kitchen staff is being very careful, is a definite plus!! We loved the new renovations that were recently done. It is very warm and welcoming. Loved the opened half wall- it makes the area seem so much bigger. We will definitely be returning!!
