We stumbled upon Maso's on a Saturday night. I am a local and had no idea this place was here. We were seated quickly and our server greeted us promptly. The atmosphere was really neat! Very cool, laid back vibe! The bar menu had lots of great options and the drinks were very good. We had the toasted ravioli and they were delicious. Our group ordered a few different pizzas and they were all amazing! The crust is some of the best I've had. The pricing was a little high compared to other local pizza spots. Is great place for a chill evening with friends at night chill atmosphere and good food

We called for a reservation and got one, but when we arrived, had to seat ourselves because no host/hostess was in sight. We ordered two of the baked pasta dishes. Mine was the baked vodka chicken. The chicken bites (all 5 of the nickel-sized pieces) were horribly tough and dried out. The pasta and sauce were just ok. My husband's pasta was greasy. Our six family members are regulars here and tonight's features for us were two Italian stallion pizzas, one cashew chicken pizza, one barbecue chicken pizza, fried green beans (cannot skip these), mac & cheese bites, and two orders of boneless sweet Thai sauce wings. The best pizza I've had in a long time. The crust is perfection. I had the pleasure of having Eric serve me at the bar. He is certainly one of the best bartenders I have been served by in a long time as well. Polite, approachable, knowledgeable, attentive, but not obtrusive, and deft. Nice atmosphere. Pizza was just okay. Manager (or someone? owner?) came to our table and interacted in an awkward way - asked us if we'd ordered then said oh, you've already eaten! (didn't ask us how it was)... seemed more like he was trying to get us to leave, as we'd been lingering for awhile after our bill was paid (we were there meeting a friend we hadn't seen in a year). There did not appear to be a wait for tables. We provided the recommended 18% tip but when the bank statement arrived an extra $3 over what we'd written was charged to our account. For once, I missed capturing some pics of the place. But let's just start off - say that this place is a great little place for casual drinks and simple upscale bar food. Nicola the owner, you'll find in this place many times - and you won't miss hearing him. His over the top outward energy and playful spirit, set the tone for a delightful experience. The overall atmosphere is pleasant and an upscale contemporary presentation. Drinks: order up, they'll have a wide selection bar. Appetizers: cheese ravioli were fried and had a nice chew to the pasta shell. Cheese was mild...and you got that long-string pull to the cheese. Marinara was mild but well balanced. Pizzas: we had (4) different kinds at the table...and all were quite good. These are very thin crust style pizzas - 12" I believe. The sauce has an Italian/olive oil taste that distinctly comes through. The crust on their pizzas....appears to be fresh made and had a very nice bite/tender chew. The place can be louder when busy. But a weekday or Friday night.....looking to hoop it up a bit and kick off some steam. Try the place out and cut loose yourself a little bit. It's a great little place.... read more

The place has good food but bad service. The problem is the waitress was training new waitress. First issue, they dropped off the drinks and never came back until food was ready. Drink was empty but nobody checked. Second issue is the waitress dropped off salad but did not check if the table had forks. Couldn't eat until she came back. This place is great. The steak soup is a meal on its own. It is out of this world. Had the Tomaso pizza. It's a white sauce pizza with Bacon, onions, bacon, mozzarella and bacon. Some of the best pizza in town imo. Awesome crust, just the right balance of chewy and crispy. Try the "I Love My Chickens." We also love the Margherita. Really disappointing experience here last night so I wouldn't recommend this place. At first I thought the place must be great because it was really busy but when we got to the front door and saw the "Seat yourself" sign, I thought "Well, this means it'll take a little while before someone notices we're here" and this was no exception. After about 6-7 minutes, a wait staff person did see us and came by to give us menus. We ordered 2 waters and a beer while we looked over the menu. The wait staff person came back fairly quickly with the waters but after another 8-10 minute wait, someone else came by the table to check on us. I said we were waiting for the person to come back with the beer and to take our order so that person tracked the original server down and she showed up with the beer a few minutes later. We ordered a small pizza and the "steak" soup and after another 30 minute wait the food finally arrived. I have to say the pizza was really good but the "steak" soup my boyfriend was served was actually vegetable soup with about 4 pieces of meat in it. Plus it didn't come with any bread or crackers or anything and I have to say that I've never ordered soup in a restaurant that didn't come with something like that so I think that's pretty cheap of Maso's. When we asked the wait staff, they said we could always order some cheesy bread but considering the price of the "steak" soup, again, something should be included. So after a few bites of the soup, my boyfriend discovered that the soup actually lacked the "steak" part so again, we ask the wait staff about it. She apologized but then added, "she doesn't make the stuff." I'll attribute that to a slip of the tongue though it's never a good idea to have that kind of response to a customer who is bringing a concern to their attention. So I replied that she could share the feedback with the kitchen so they know there's an issue with the soup. After a few minutes the chef came by the table and apologized and offered to make a new bowl with more meat in it. But by this time, it was after 8pm and I was through with my meal and we didn't wait another 10 minutes or so to start all over again with a new bowl. But here is the kicker that really drives me to write this lengthy review-the restaurant did not offer to take the soup off of the bill, discount the bill, or anything. We were charged nearly $40 for 2 beers, a small pizza, and the bowl of soup that was like 90% uneaten and had been complained about. This is really inexcusably POOR customer service and frankly, surprising considering all the other places competing for customer dollars, especially right now as restaurants recover from the pandemic. As they say, you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and ours was such that not only will we not be back, I've shared this experience with friends and colleagues and am posting this review online for others to see and consider. Not a good look Maso--you blew an easy chance to earn a customer. read more

Maso Pizza Bar is by far the best and most authentic Italian pizza spot in southwest Missouri. I've never been so pleasantly surprised when walking into a pizza place. The staff were so friendly and helpful that I might never go to another restaurant. The bartender Cooper was the best bartender I've seen in a while. Last night I tried Maso Pizza Kitchen, formally Maso Kitchen & Bar. This my first time there since they changed the menu and name of the restaurant. I wrote a Yelp review about the previous format and menu and was not very favorable. Chef Nicola Gilardi (owner) messaged me in Yelp pointing out that the old Maso was no more and my review no longer applied. I took it down and gave Maso Pizza Kitchen a try. The experience was totally different. First of all, Chef Gilardi was there making sure all his guests were happy with the experience. This is great because you know your experiencing the chef's vision of the food, drinks and experience because he is there making sure his vision is being carried out. The atmosphere was fun and inviting, with everyone enjoying themselves, even the busy staff. My wife and I enjoyed our expertly prepared cocktails and talked at comfortable volumes even though the place was absolutely packed. Being busy didn't prevent the staff from providing excellent service either. Our waiter was fun and enjoying himself which also made if fun for us. The cocktails were excellent. I feel the way a place makes their Martinis says a lot about them. The menu now is focused on the Pizza Kitchen theme and we had difficulty choosing from many interesting choices on the menu. They also kept some of the popular appetizers from the old menu that were truly good and the menu offers several pasta dishes and salads. We shared the chopped wedge salad. It wasn't like anything I've had before but we loved it. The pizza had an excellent, crispy crust and the right combination of sauce, Italian seasoned meats and vegetables. I don't eat pizza often and when I did there was only one place I'd go, way over on the southwest side of town. Now I have a place close to home and I'll probably gain weight because I'll be eating more pizza. For a long time, I've wished East Sunshine would get more restaurants and was disappointed to see so many fast food chain places going in. Maso Pizza Kitchen is an excellent locally owned and operated response to that, and is now one of my go to places. I think Chef Gilardi really created a winner. read more
