Been going here since the 80s. Has gotten very crowded in the past 10 yrs. IMO has lost that country feel to it with cars packed all between the trees and a mass of people at the entrance (bathroom line nearly 20 min long). Also prices have increased to nearly $30 per bag. I suppose going during the week would probably be less hectic. read more

A cool way to spend an autumn afternoon after a morning in the car. I can imagine that this place gets busy on the weekends. Friendly and well priced. I wish they had an orchard scented candle to bring home as a souvenir. read more

I have personally never picked an apple... I go there with friends for the sights... Its on a mountain, overlooking some beautiful scenery... Its very peaceful... A great place for a picnic with family to enjoy the great outdoors... There is a nice little shop on the premises where you can purchase jams, candles (which last forever if you get the big ones)... My friends and I go there every year... Eat all the apples you want while you are there, but pay for the ones you want to take out... read more

Pretty much what you would expect from an apple orchard. Scenic setting, lots of trees with many varieties of apples. The store is fairly sparse, but the products are of high quality. I suspect that the summer and early fall are much more crowded and the place may have more the feel of a tourist attraction, but in late fall there weren't many people, there were enough apples and the staff was eager to point out the best spots and make the experience enjoyable. It was definitely worth the drive out from the City. read more

APPLE CIDER DONUTS!!!! oh yea and they have apples, pies, pizza, and so much more! Lol! Great trip for families with kids of any ages! Just be prepared to walk and bundle up during the cold seasons! read more

This was my first time apple picking since I was a child, although the selection wasn't great at the moment I had a great time. The apples are all you can eat in the orchard, and the land is beautiful. Now the down side, this place only takes cash, hot dog prices are outrages, we searched for an hour for a bathroom, and the lines are very long. Having said all this, I cant wait to come back next year to have another relaxing day read more

I live in NYC, and was relieved to get back to Brooklyn to get out of the traffic. That is how bad the drive in to Masker is. Every possible choke point leading up to Makser is a 30-45 minute delay, and there are three. For the math challenge that means a minimum of 1.5 to a max 2.25 delay once you get within 10 miles of the place. Once in, there are literally cars EVERYWHERE. If you have a vision of quiet day in the orchard picking apples with the kid...well you don't have the same vision as the avaricious charlatan's at Masker. Cars driving THROUGH the orchard, exhaust fumes in every corner, the orchard tracked and mud soaked from the constant lines of cars tearing up the grass...apples left in huge piles everywhere making it impossible for the little one's to walk, when combined with the fact that you cannot leave their side for an instant lest they be run down by one of the harried drivers, tired and frustrated from an two hour traffic snarl at the entrance. On the way out...desultory looking ponies and thronging masses of people everywhere around the sad little array of hot dogs and coke, not to mention third-world toilet facilities....and another hour long traffic jam to get out...not to mention pimply faced punks inspecting your car for stolen apple booty. And that was early. On my way out the line of stopped cars to get in was 8 MILES LONG. I pitied them, except I was so relieved to be out myself, all I could think was SO LONG SUCKERS! I take my kids a couple of places every weekend and this was the very worst experience at an outdoor venue I have ever had...If they had a negative star rating I would give it. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! VERY disappointed!! This place is SO overcrowded - if you are coming to avoid city crowds forget about it - the city has relocated to Maskers. Trees were all picked over - hardly any apples except the piles on the ground under the trees. Apples are there expensive anyway. No place to park. Traffic insane. The "Family Fun Center" is NOT fun - We spent more time in line than we did having any fun. Employees were rude, uncaring and VERY unhelpful with the exception of 2 nice young adults - everyone else couldn't be bothered to answer a question. Yup - definitely felt like I was back in the city. We will find another place to go next year - I will never return to Maskers! read more

My absolutely favorite apple orchard in Warwick great staff friendly environment they do the best to accommodate everybody

Love, love, love this place! Though a lot of the reviews complain about being able to drive around instead of park and walk, this is one of the reasons we pick here. Apples get heavy to carry around and this place is huge, couldn't imagine walking around here long distance and carrying the apples. This orchard has the best variety of apples. We will continue making this orchard part of our apple picking tradition! read more

Went here this weekend with the grandchildren. 10/12 was the absolute worst apple picking day of my entire life. They let in thousands only to let you out one way. At one point there was a medical problem so they let about 100 cars go down and out, but then the whole mountain started an exodus. I never have seen so many angry people. This place is run by teenage kids who do not know what to do to keep calm and organize. Then they start taking cash at one of the entrances to let people out. More arguments ensued. If you are a smart person you will stay away from this place. There are many other orchards around. And to boot after we paid cash in a huff ($27 a bag) we were told to get the "F" out of my orchard. Not to worry-Will never be back. read more

Yuck. Never been there before... never again. Utter chaos. I'll leave it that... could say a lot more about the clientele.

I love apple picking and I love the beauty of this farm. However, I give low ratings because there is poison ivy everywhere and the owners don't even bother to warn their visitors of this hazard. NO WARNING SIGNS anywhere-except to caution about the fallen apples and the risk of falls. Visitors were unknowingly walking, laying down, and even having picnics in the poison ivy. This disregard of their visitors' health and neglect to keep the orchards clear of poison ivy is just so wrong. I will not return. read more

The orchard is beautiful and the apples and apple cider donuts are exceptionally delicious. However, they have a poison ivy problem. I got infected for the first time in my life after apple picking here. Also I wish they had smaller bags for cheaper prices. Apples are charged by the bag, not by weight. You really get your money's worth since the bags are enormous, but who needs that many apples!? read more

Ok, the positives.....the Orchard was very large, great views, and nice apples! We went early so the crowds weren't so bad. What totally KILLED our experience is the car inspection at the end. They are VERY INTRUSIVE and open your trunk, check under the spare tire even!! The girl almost accused me of taking two bags...I double bagged my one full bag of apples so the plastic wouldn't break!! The bags are small for $25 bucks so I filled it to the brim!! They treat you all like criminals leaving. Very disgusted!!!! read more

Everywhere we went, we stood in line. Traffic from NYC was horrible, the little country roads were packed with cars in line to get to the orchard. It was loud, crowded and full of screaming kids. The apple pie was good served a la mode, but seriously, one hot dog stand? Ridiculous. read more

This review is regarding just a phone conversation. I called to ask if they were dog friendly and she said that no that it's not fair for the dog . (I work with dogs for over 10 years. A dog going out walking is fun for a dog and city dogs are use to being around lots of ppl it's no big deal ) Meanwhile in the background I hear a guy saying it is dog friendly . You could tell she doesn't like dogs . My dog is extremely well behaved dog. Very disappointed to see they are turning away families with dogs . I feel they should request that only well behaved on leash animals go . After the guy said a few times it was dog friendly she said that we could come during the week and not weekend . Obviously I won't be coming to this place at all . The only reason I gave it three stars is cause I haven't been able to review the place itself this review is only based on their employee and dog policies. read more

Visited here today and what a great experience it was. Arrived around 11am and the traffic upon entry was very light. We parked in lot 2 and walked the entire orchard. All of the apples were ripe and the ripening calendar on their website is very accurate. Although there were a lot of cars you didn't feel the crowds since the orchard is huge. After walking and picking, we headed to the country store and tried some apple cider donuts which I highly recommend. It was a nice experience and it's a perfect place for small children since there is pony ride and small petting zoo. Plenty of parking and I saw signed for restrooms as well. read more

This is a great orchard. Bring the kids, the dog, a picnic basket and drive to a little corner of the orchard with a great view. You can eat apples all day long. This year they are soooo juicy. The staff is really nice. During the week you have the whole place to yourself! On weekends go early, find your spot and just RELAX. The kids loved it and ran around all day. Forgot how great the country experience can be. You only pay for the apples you pick, so if your honest why should u care if they check your car? Have to go back cause we're running out of apples already! Mmmmmm! read more

What a disaster of a trip to Masker Orchards. After calling to make sure apples were available, We drove 2 hours from NYC to find empty trees. There wasn't an apple to be found!! We stayed 45 and hit major traffic on the way home. My children were sooo disappointed!! What a terrible time,a waste of gas & money & a waste of a beautiful family day!! read more

We live about an hour from this farm and came for the first time. We got there around 11, and it wasn't too crowded yet. We got our bags as we came in, and found a place to park very easily. We were able to drive anywhere we wanted to go, which allowed us to skip the hiking many reviews talk about, which was great with a toddler and infant in tow. At first it was very difficult to find trees that had apples on them, but the further down we went into the orchard, the better luck we had. Even with the map though, we had trouble finding the varieties we were looking for, because the trees weren't marked very well. Over the next hour and a half, it grew so crowded, with so many people (and their dogs!) picnicking and driving through the orchard that we could no longer let our toddler run around like he had been doing. There were mobs of people everywhere, and then driving around them became a big chore. It got worse when we returned to the entrance where all the food and activities were. Mobs and mobs of people. Extremely long lines. We just grabbed some donuts from a little stand and hightailed it out of there. Getting out was actually pretty easy. Instead of following everyone else, we went back into the orchard and followed the sign that said 'express exit'. It took us right to the exit. There were four or five lanes with people checking to see how many bags we picked and opening our doors to look inside the car. This is understandable seeing how they just let us drive all over their property and it's very easy to pilfer apples. The next stop was to pay, which again were four or five lanes, and then it goes down to two lanes and then one to get out, where a guy stands and gives each car a coupon. Pros: great price. With all the apples we were able to put in the bag, we paid about a dollar a pound. Eat as much as you want in the field. Although it was crazy busy, it seemed well organized and run smoothly. The views were also amazing. The apple cider donuts did not last long. Cons: Horrible horrible crowds, apples were hard to find. Although I did enjoy myself (I was in great company!), I probably won't come here again. This place did not offer anything I can find somewhere else with much less crowds. read more

My boyfriend and I have come here every year for the past 3 years and love it so much. We come on a weekday when there is no one else there. We also come later in the season so there are less apples but there certainly are still plenty left. The apples are 29$ a bag but this year they offered us a lesser amount to pay if we didn't fill the whole bag. We filled about 3/4 and paid 20$ which was great! The apple cider donuts are amazing and we love this place! read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE FROM BEGINNING TO END--I'd give zero stars if it were possible. Went there yesterday and I wish we had never gone. It was terrible. Traffic is a nightmare and then once you are in you figure that it will be a peaceful day.....very wrong!!! Very overcrowded and no one directing traffic in the orchard. Cars everywhere and back up beyond belief---sat in the car for hours while in the orchard just trying to get around--and I'm not exaggerating. The workers didn't care one bit and very rude and nasty. We finally found a spot to get out of the car -- there were NO APPLES ON THE TREES---NOTHING TO PICK. The bathrooms were gross beyond gross. Overheard not just one family, but many saying they wish they never came to Maker's. Not a pleasant day in the country by no means. Would have had a better time picking apples from the Waldbaums or ShopRite than wasting my family's time at Makers Orchards. I will never go back. Very stressful and Masker's just DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. I'm usually a very positive, upbeat person---but believe me when I tell you, this was HORRIBLE. read more

It was my first experience of Apple-Picking (or for that matter any fruit picking) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't have a benchmark to compare this farm against so my review below will be completely based on my sole experience. I went to the farms on Sep 2nd 2012 (the labor day weekend). As expected there were lots of people but still it was not crowded. We could take our car inside the farm and park it directly under the apple tree. So, there was no effort of pulling our stuff and carrying all the way from parking. The place was very neat and clean with lots of varieties of apple. I am not an avid apple eater, but I tried a few apples and they were delicious. You can eat as many apples there for free (no charge) but if you want to take them home - it is $22 per bag (The bag is provided by them and it is huge). We spent the entire day there - having a small picnic of our own and enjoying the red apples. So, if someone is looking for a good picnic - this is a great place to go and have time off. read more

We wanted to try a different orchard this year & decided to try this one. I read some of the negative reviews regarding traffic on local roads leading to the orchard but I figured, "I can handle light traffic by the orchard." Big mistake. We took 87 to exit 15A. Once on 17 you coukd see a HUGE line of cars trying to get to Rt 17A (a 13 mile stretch to the orchard). Guess what? From the moment we got onto Rt 17A, both lanes were bumper to bumper (worse than tunnel traffic in/out of nyc). My GPS said we had 12 more miles on that road until the orchard. There was NO WAY I was going to creep along 12 miles. And if traffic is that bad imagine how crowded the orchard is? So we never got to experience this place which is a shame & was a total waste of our time. Very disappointed. Do not ignore all of the low star reviews regarding traffic. read more

Watch Out: his place is filled with POISON IVY. Everywhere under the trees. I usually don't write reviews on here, but I felt so compelled to do so after this experience. I got it all over -- face, neck, arms, chest, etc. I was so focused on my kids not getting it, that I stupidly did not pay attention to myself. They really should have signs up specifically warning you about the poison ivy, as a lot of people don't know what it looks like. If you do decide to go, just remember: "leaves of three, let them be"! read more

Super crowded, Orchard was packed with cars everywhere - hard to walk with kids, selection just ok, and to top it all off they search your car upon exit. Don't go! Find another orchard in Warwick, which is quite beatiful. read more

I had to give a 1 star because unfortunately there is no ZERO star options here but if I could I would be giving this place all zeros. This place was so misleading I was seriously disappointed. It was a truly awful experience for me and my family. First of all driving into the orchards is absolutely ridiculous and unsafe considering there a lot of little ones running around. With the sheer number of people coming to visit the orchards which is expected the fact that they allowed that many cars into the was insane. I was constantly having to move out of the way of the cars and I could not let my 1 yr old son out of his stroller not even once to walk around because I was concerned he would be hit by a car. Who wants to spend the day worrying about their child being hit by a car when they are apple picking in the orchard? Needless to say he was miserable all day because all he wanted to do was get down and walk around. I heard multiple families screaming at their children to look out for cars and move out of the way and witnessed multiple times small children almost hit by these cars. I cannot be the only parent who was completely aggrivated by this. Second of all considering the high volume of people which is and should be expected by all visitors and employees, there was absolutely no crowd control or functional flow. Thrid of all not only did we stand on line for COLD hot dogs!! and horrible tasting pizza but there was NO WHERE for our family to sit and eat, no picnic tables, just plastic crates with slabs of wood laying across them set up next to the port-a-johns!!! on a hill therefore all of the benches were slanted. This is supposed to be a family oriented place, how are families supposed to rally their children on these make- shift benches? & no I do not want to consume my food next to the disgusting port-a-johns. who even thought to do that?? I will never go back and I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. In fact, I will be making it a point to call and complain as well as let as many peope I know about this experience. also the fact that they adverstise things for children to do is a joke. not only can your children barely pick apples without being run over but there were maybe 4 animals for them to look at and pathetic pony rides, face painting where everyone cuts the line because again there is no staff controlling the crowd. In fact I cannot tell you how mnay times my 1 yr old was wacked in the head by rude people trying to cut lines. The staff needs to be more involved in navigating & making sure people are on lines. it was a free for all. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. DO NOT GO HERE.... just find somewehre else to go, read more

First time apple picking since I have lived in the tri-state area (9 years). Coming from Queens, it was exactly what we needed - fresh air, tons of apples, fun family activity and fall goodies. We had a great time, the baby loved it. I was in awe at just how many apples are on the trees. Maybe this is the city girl in me talking, but it's amazing! Definitely dusty, bring sneakers, bring picnic stuff and some friends and it will be a great day for everyone. And, the cider donuts are un-freaking-believable! read more

Ok...so the orchard is beatiful and there are a lot of fun activities for kids however it is so GROSSLY OVERCROWDED in high season on the weekends that it is nearly impossible to have a good time. I'm talking 30 minute waits to go to the bathroom or get a donut. And there are cars everywhere. There are people everywhere. It's like Times Square. It is insane. And the traffic to get there is the worst part....it's gridlock. A 1 lane road with over an hour wait just to get into the parking area. A 45 minute wait to leave the place. I'm sure it would be fine to come mid week as the place is very lovely and there are lots of things to do. I don't like leaving a bad review but people (especially parents) need to be warned that you will spend the majority of your time trying to actually enter the orchard and the remaining time will be spent in line. Go during the week if you can! read more

overall great experience!! a little confusing because of how large it is, but a map is provided. only downside was that they were out of apple cider donuts. but they have a good selection of food and a cute little shop where i bought some autumn scented candles. they also had homemade hats, mittens, house decorations, pie tins, and more. right outside the store they had a petting zoo with goats, pigs, chickens, ponies, and horses. i would definitely go again! read more

Awful. Seriously if this is your only option for apple picking, I feel bad for you. Imagine if Washington Heights were suddenly dumped into an apple orchard. It's ghetto, way too crowded, and they let cars drive all over the orchard. WTF!? Who wants to go try to experience nature with cars driving between the trees?! Not to mention it's insanely crowded and way too many kids. The line for food is ridiculous and they ran out of donuts, the only thing we wanted, by 4pm yet didn't bother to inform us so we waited 20 mins in line for nothing. Seriously you cant write a sign and put it out saying 'donuts sold out?' I found the staff mostly rude and immature, and the fact that they check your trunk on the way out speaks volumes. As does the fact that there are actually people who are so lazy they like being able to drive up to the tree like they are going thru a fast food drive-through. There are far prettier, less crowded orchards equally distant from NYC that don't allow cars all over the grounds. We will never go again. Forbes magazine best orchard in NY my a**. read more

While Maskers Orchards was always part of our annual traditional family fall outing from the city, after this weekends visit with three generations present, I don't believe we will be returning. We now reside in the countryside of the Hudson Valley and there are many more apple orchards from which to choose. The apples at Maskers are still great, the air is fairly clean to breathe although there are still smokers toking away with little consideration for people who don't want to breathe in their carcinogenic fumes. It was very disappointing that they actually sold out of the Cider donuts by 12:30 p.m. on a Sunday. One would think they would make more. While Maskers is celebrating 100 years in business it did not appear that they have reinvested a penny in their infrastructure specifically the Men's Lavatory. I really don't know how they can pass a county or state health inspection. The urinals are open troughs as for animals. The first stall I entered had a serious water leak from above splashing onto the urine soaked toilet seat. The handicapped stall toilet seat was also covered with urine. I opted to hold it in. I realize some men are pigs, however, the men's lavatory was not fit for beast nor man. Even though my wife said apples are less expensive in our local supermarkets and are locally grown I had no issue paying the $25.95 for the bag of apples since we did spend a short time on their property and I did enjoy watching my new granddaughter picking and eating an apple. It was a nice run for many years, but we cannot return until we hear that Maskers has made some sanitary improvements. read more

Yes, the road is muddy, the parking can be confusing, and there is A LOT of people and cars. We went the first time just yesterday, Saturday on the Columbus weekend. It was very confusing in terms of where should we park. We parked our car between the apples the first time then we decided to moved the car to a "parking lot." There is a lot of people around the restroom, county store, pony etc. However, I didn't really feel crowded at all when we are picking apples. There were so many apples and we ate so many on the way, we kind of became sick of the apples (in a good way of course)! We also brought our own lunch eating in the picnic style. So by the end of the day, five of us bought 1 bag of apples, some of us bought ciders, and a ton of fun. The reason we picked here to come is because everything thing is free. Free apple eating and free bags. In my opinion, any thing free comes with a compromise! Also beware, CASH only! read more

We tried to make the best of it... but would NEVER go back, especially on a weekend. A group of us went Oct 8th and it was a nightmare. The traffic to enter the orchard was horrendous. Then once you finally get there it's a mess. Cars everywhere, parked by trees, on the sides of the road, people walking with kids.... simply dangerous! The area where the food & restrooms are is another disaster. The lines are super duper long so make sure you eat and use the bathroom before you get there. The workers try their very best to move things along which we appreciated, but there was just an enormous amount of people. Leaving the orchard with another traffic jam and took us over a half hour to get out. Needless to say I won't be going back. Maybe during the week it's better? All I can say is there are MUCH nicer and more organized orchards out there. I highly recommend Wilken's Farm in Yorktown Heights. read more
