Just in time for fall, we spent last weekend doing all the fall things! Came to Dr Davies Farm with friends to do some apple picking and just be outside. I grew up 10mins from Dr Davies and had never been so it was about time! Dr Davies opens at 10am for apple picking - we got there around 11:30am so we had to park in the field across the road but they have many parking attendants/crossing guards around to help guide you. Our group was 4 adults, a dog and a baby so we did the group admission rate for the orchard which was $62 for a half bushel. Otherwise, it would've costed $17 per person for a half peck bag. We decided it was better to do the group rate and it was more than enough apples for all of us! (Oh yes, forgot to mention that unlike many other orchards, you can bring your dog!) The staff is here is very very helpful. Once you buy your bag for the orchard, they give you direct you where to go. There's plenty of staff along the way from the entrance to the back of the orchard where we went. There will always be someone there to guide you in the right direction! I've been to other places and they just let you go without any direction so this was nice. Once we arrived at the section that was open for picking, we were apple to choose from a number of apple trees - macs, macoun, gala, and golden delicious (not many of these ). Golden delicious were pretty high up on the tree - you could purchase a pole picker for an additional fee. I think it was $5. After Apple picking, we went back to the front to the little market and bought some maple candies and apple cider donuts. I'm not usually a fan of apple cider donuts but these were SOOO good. All in all, it was a fun day - I definitely recommend coming here! Next time I'll take more pics to share. read more

We decided to check out Dr. Davies Farm Stand which is also home to Red Barn Cidery. It's a massive farm with plenty of seating, food trucks, live music, apple picking, pumpkin picking, tractor rides, produce store, and more. The workers have this down to a science because despite it being so busy, everything from parking to grabbing donuts & cider, to the lines for other activities were so seamless. We got the Cider Donut Draft which honestly, I was not happy with. It had a strong taste of cloves and maybe cinnamon. It wasn't pleasant to sip on, and as an FYI, they are all alcoholic. I wish we had gotten the flight. It's not listed or mentioned anywhere but I did notice a lot of people with them (unfortunately after I had already ordered). The Apple Cider Donuts come in a bag of 6. Despite them just sitting on the counters, they were quite fresh, lightly sweet, and tasty. I wish you could order 1-2 at a time as 6 is excessive unless you're coming with family or a few friends. The bottle of Fresh Apple Cider was super crisp, tart, and refreshing. Given how crowded it is, they actually have pretty good operations planning, managing the crowd and pushing people through. This is however a rather funky apple orchard. All the apples are on the smaller side, but still really delicious! They are however for the most part, out of reach for hand picking. You have to use these stick pickers that they give you to pick them. In some ways, it makes the picking more fun, but it also means you have to do a lot more hard labor to get the apples. The orchard has some great background scenery, but this is one of the less scenic apple orchards in the area. Overall, it is a great time! Cute farm to pick apples about an hour from the city. The parking is very organized and there are various food trucks to grab some lunch or snacks. The farm serves their own hard cider, but I was not a fan of their flavors. Apple picking is cash only so come prepared! You can get a small or large bag to fill. The apple trees are only a short walk and you can rent a wagon if you need it to carry your apples. The apple selection isn't as big as other farms, but they are still tasty. They still only had the blander apples (no honey crisp, fuji, cosmic crisp) but we loved the bigger space and all the apple trees. They also had delicious apple cider donuts! My friend and I went to look for an apple orchard yesterday there were a couple around, but Dr. Davies was the winner. We were looking for a less crowded orchard this year and this was it! It is not nearly as packed as the farms upstate or out west in NJ. They have limited apples right now but I assume they will open more of the apples in a few weeks. There were slim pickings that the end of September/ early October. Parking was organized and they have food trucks, donuts and alcohol all for sale. Admission is $17 per adult which includes a small bag for apples. 5 adults is $62 with a large bag for apples. The kids that work there are nice but there was a middle aged brown hair lady at the stand that was so rude It was my 1st time here. She was inpatient and flat out nasty. I will never come again. Overall had a very fun time here. I will say I am giving 4 stars due to the cash only paying method and the sad pumpkin patch. This farm has their parking down Pat! I was very surprised how much parking they had and how orderly it was, very stress free and easy. The hay ride to go to the pumpkin patch and corn maze was $8 per person, not bad but the corn maze is $5 per person. I thought the $8 would include the corn maze but it did not. The pumpkin patch was also a bit sad, it was more like they threw around mini pumpkins for people to pick up. The view is a high point, there's a gorgeous mountain in the back and it also looks over the lake. We took the tractor back to the apple picking area and all the apples were at the tops of the trees, which meant you had to rent out an apple picking rod if you wanted a lot of apples. My group did not do this but just found some to snack on that we could reach. The farm had a live band playing and lots of food trucks and beverages. Dr. Davies is a scenic orchard that seems to be popular in the suburban area of NY. As a part of my team building, it was selected as a good place for us to experience. The orchard was divided into two sections with the divider being a main busy roadway which isn't the best idea when bringing children along for apple picking. The parking is on one side of the roadway and the entrance area is on the other. In comparing to other apple picking places I've been to, I found that this place didn't label the apple trees as clearly, so it was a bit of a guess as to which apple you were picking. Also the trees were on a hill so many of us loss motivation as we were walking around up and down the hills. On the other hand, I did get good tasty apples that I have been excited to eat and share when I got home. read more

Great if you are looking for a small farm for apple picking: - admission to the orchard ($15/pp or $57 for 5 people) includes a 1/2 peck bag per person or a 1/2 bushel bag for 5people. The price is fair as most farms are charging way more than that nowadays. - If you have a preference for types of apples, check their website before going to see which apples are ripe for picking. - The trees are pretty low (no need for one of those poles/picking sticks) as there are plenty of ripe apples within arm's reach. - Parking lot is easy to get to and within a reasonable walking distance (across the street). - They offer wagon rentals ($10) but you can also bring your own. - Close to NYC (around an hour or less by car). When we went, most of the apples were macs, red delicious, and cortland. Would've been awesome if they had a few more varieties as we quickly picked our fill of them within the first 30 minutes. If you're looking for a place to pick apples with little ones, this is a good place to take them because the farm is small so you can finish pretty quickly before they get tired/cranky and the apples are really easy to pick off the tree. The apple cider and doughnuts are on par with other farms' cider & doughnuts. The doughnuts were prepackaged though. If you can snag some freshly baked ones, I'm sure they will be super delicious! read more

My family went peach picking yesterday for the first time. We have been to the farm for apple picking. Our grandkids 4 and 8 had a ball. It's a small orchard but plenty of peaches to pick. The peaches are delicious. We bought some fresh corn at the stand and that was a huge hit. The people were friendly. It's less than an hours drive from Manhattan. Apples here were quite good, but it was really busy compared to the other apple farms that we have visited. And this was at the opening time... I can't imagine how crowded it would have gotten later in the day. Even navigating through the parking lot took some time due to the number of cars. Price was $57 for a bag which comes with admission for I think up to 5 people. We stuffed the bag with apples and ended up getting 23lbs, which was substantially less than the advertised weight. I did like the fact that the different types of apples were located fairly close together, so it was easy to get some variety. Really enjoyed the apple cider donuts read more

Have bought corn here for 20* years, it has become quite hit or miss this summer - often starchy & old - seems like they no longer pick it daily, ears often have brown marks with lots of wear & tear. We held my son's 3rd birthday here on Saturday afternoon. Due to covid, we only had a few family and friends attend. Laura, the hostess, was amazing- from the beginning of the emails to plan this all the way down to the end of the party. She not only stayed with us to ensure we were comfortable, had what we needed, and timing of events (there were some crazy tired kids at the end) but also assisted me in helping me get up a birthday banner and getting it down. Labor day weekend was their opening weekend and we were fortunate to snag a few tables for our party. Their birthday party package includes pizza, plates, napkins, cups, water bottles, and apple cider and donuts (later two are optional at an additional cost), hayrides, pumpkins and apple picking with a small bag (which is perfect for our 3 year old) in their private orchard across the street. They also provide golf cart rides for the less inclined to walk (preggos, slow grandparents, etc). For the poor reviews for this farm, I think their standards are set to high, and we've been to fancier apple farms, but this one was perfect for what we wanted, needed and got. I have zero complaints and only compliments to the Farm, the employees and the lovely scenery around. My guests loved this idea, and would come back to plan more events here. read more

I am so disappointed! We went with a big group from work. We all pre-paid for our tickets. We were not told that we get a free can of apple cider or donuts. I bought a bag of donuts and pie not to mention a lot more from the store... we spend money on general admission, bbq stand, and the store- over $100 in two hours. We found out two people from our group were profiled and told that they were stealing apples!!! A few bad apples do spoil the bunch...Discrimination still exists. I drove an hour and a half to visit Dr. Davies farm this past weekend with a group of coworkers for what I thought would be a relaxing day away from NYC. I pre-paid $32.70 for a package which included hayride, apple picking, pumpkin patch, corn maze, apple cider & donuts. On arrival, I received a small bag containing two donuts and a can of apple cider. At the beginning of the orchards is an apple pole rental stand, I noticed the area was muddy and decided to return to my car to change my sneakers and drop off the two donuts/can of apple cider. Apparently, that was a GRAVE mistake. When my coworker and I returned from the parking lot, a security guard at the orchard accused us of STEALING apples. Apparently, we were under surveillance. The employee snatched the two empty plastic bags out of our hands and was speaking on the radio with somebody from the parking lot. I was shocked and embarrassed as this was in front of my coworkers, and I wanted to handle this situation as discreetly and unconfrontational as possible. This is supposedly a "family-friendly" establishment. I explained the situation and welcomed them to come back to my car to check. The employee realized he messed up, barely apologized, returned our bags, and let us pass. It felt like the "shoot first ask questions later" mentality. In that moment my spirit was broken, and I wondered if I had looked differently would I have been approached that aggressively. This situation could have been handled differently and I did not like how a man snatched something that was paid for out of my hands. I'm not the one to leave reviews but in this case it's a necessity. The employees need sensitivity training on how to approach customers or shouldn't be working in areas with customer interactions. Came to the farm on a late Sunday morning and there were a ton of families already there. The farm is currently using a "reservation" system but I don't think it's really enforced. I wasn't asked for my time. Despite the amount of people I was never too close to anyone. What I like about Davies is they are dog friendly! I'm doggo-sitting for the week and was looking for an outdoor activity and this sounded like the perfect thing to do. Pick apples and take the dog out! I wasn't the only one with a dog. If you bring yours please be sure they are super friendly because there are so many curious children! Because it was just myself picking apples I purchased the small bag to fill (1/2 peck bag) for $12. There's one other option, the 1/2 bushel, that is good for entry for up to 6 people. I didn't catch how much the 1/2 bushel is, though. The varieties of apples in season are shown on the website but when I arrived I wasn't sure what I was picking. Be patient, walk around and look for those big ripe apples. No cider donuts for me though as they appeared to have been sold only by the half dozen. But they sure did smell amazing! read more

We went apple picking at Dr Davies because we found out they had timed entry which was good for social distancing during COVID. The farm was so busy we had to park a ways down. But there were signs and people directing traffic so it flowed well. We enjoyed the rather small corn maze (bumpy and not stroller friendly), some cider donuts, food trucks and then we ventured out to pick apples. It was well set up and organized. The paths were wide and the trees were mixed around. We picked and tasted and had lots of fun. Definitely a cute farm with thoughtful organization. read more

This place is mad cute. My friend and I went because I've been craving a corn maze to fulfill my Halloween spirit and we found it to be a little small. Still enjoyed the kind staff and environment. My wife and I drove up from the city to go apple picking here and had an absolutely wonderful time! It's a quick drive from Manhattan at only about an hour. The farm has a huge orchard with plenty of apples to pick and a good variety. Parking was well organized and free and two small bag of apples was plenty for the both of us. They have a hay ride for kids and a mini little market with fresh produce, apple cider donuts (to die for) and plenty of other snacks and food as well. I'd recommend getting here early before the crowds and making a reservation online but overall a wonderful experience and would definitely go back! read more

They're actually one of the few farms open till 6 on the weekends! I really enjoyed apple picking here but my only complaint was the donut stand. They ran out. I waited in the rain for probably an hour and a half. One of the workers said they only have 12 donut making slots, and since they require everyone to buy a minimum of 6 donuts, you can imagine why I was waiting so long. They need more machines for sure or at least up-staff to keep up with it. The employees were working really hard but just seems like they don't have enough resources to keep up. Also worth noting - not many ubers nearby to pick us up so be aware of that if you're getting there without a car. There's a beautiful lake on the farm and a variety of apples + pumpkins to pick from. I would go back! read more

Planned a visit here with some friends who drove up from the city, they said the drive wasn't bad. We did make reservations, but no one asked for it. It was $47 for a large bag and the system is that for a group of 6 or more you can get this bigger bag and fill it as much as you possibly can. We def got enough apples to split between three couples. Great apples, plenty to choose from. At the end we got the awesome treat of apple cider doughnuts! They also have a little hot dog cart and ice cream truck. Masks required but there's a lot of people there on the weekend, if you really want to social distance maybe plan to go during the week. read more

So much land! I came with the family for apple picking over the weekend. Again so much land, a bunch of trees for all different kinds of apples. It's only 30-45 mins from the city. We had arrived late due to traffic so we weren't able to attend any of the kiddies activity & we spent so much time picking apples that we couldn't even do the hayride. The farm is spacious, the staff are friendly. Not much of a food option besides donuts and cider. I found the prices to be a bit too much for apples but you can literally stash apples anywhere. The day was beautiful & the weather was great! The amount of color that popped with the leaves & the grass & the mountains, I fell in love! I'd def come at an earlier time so I'll be able to enjoy more of the farm. read more

I came here for a work event and two of my co-workers were racially profiled in this place. A white staff member accused them of stealing apples. This is after the fact that they drove an hour to get here, waste gas, and pay the 32 dollars entrance fee each. Management should really look into providing customer service and implicit bias training to their staff. read more

What a gem! While there's a lot of great farms to visit for apple harvest season, Dr. Davies' Family Farm offers a fantastic family experience with a personal touch I love! I visited with a group of young children from my local community and they had a blast! There's a beautiful orchard that's perfect size for young Apple pickers to reach (as well as adults), a corn maze, hay rides, and hot fresh cider donuts as well as a picnic area. The personal touch is what makes it special - the attendant running the corn maze always had a smile and greeting no matter how many times we went in (and young kids like to go in a lot!) and when I lost my favorite glasses running through the maze to hide from my young friends, Dr. Davies and his team were able to find them for me the next day (no easy task) and made sure they were mailed to me safe and sound. AFTER my visit, I read the previous reviews and am appalled at the negative comments from some people with serious attitudes!!! This place was awesome! EVERYONE was pleasant and friendly! I spoke with at least 10 different employees, from parking attendants, to booth workers, to the hayride driver. Literally, I had NO NEGATIVE interactions whatsoever!! Apples were HUGE and bountiful. Property is BEAUTIFUL!!! The cost associated with everything is a direct result that this establishment pays for labor and operation costs all year long, but only has 2 months to make enough money to just break even. If you can't afford all the extras, then stick to picking the apples and enjoying the view. Absolutely clean and safe for children! We had a WONDERFUL DAY at Dr Davies!!! read more
