Mashawi Grill is one of my favorite kabob establishments in the Los Angeles area. Located in North Redondo Beach, it's convenient to access since it is right off the Inglewood Ave exit on the 405. Their chicken kabob is very well marinated. You can tell the flavors penetrated into the meat and cooked until soft and tender. A plate gives you a choice of 3 sides and 1 or 2 skewers of meat. I opted for Yellow Rice, Hummus, and Tabouli and 2 skewers of meat (pita bread and labne included.) It was a lot of food! One plate fed me 3 times and there were still leftovers to make a small kabob wrap. The service was amazing! Even though I placed my order to go, the sweet lady asked if I wanted to include condiments, utensils, drinks, and she even offered suggestions off the menu that she enjoys. She was very kind and friendly and I just love an establishment that takes pride in their restaurant and their customers. Pricing is very affordable for top notch food. Oooh, this review is long overdue! I absolutely LOVE Mashawi Grill. Every time I'm craving something fresh and flavorful, this is where I go. I'm vegan, so I always order the Mashawi Salad without chicken and substitute falafel, with no cheese. And let me tell you--it hits the spot EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. The garlic spread is hands down my favorite, and the spicy hummus is absolutely incredible. Everything is always fresh, packed with flavor, and consistently delicious. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE SERVICE! The food is good--the spicy hummus is honestly amazing--but service matters, and this place consistently misses the mark. This was my second visit, and unfortunately I had the same rude experience. I tried to overlook it before because I liked the food, but tonight sealed it for me. I brought a friend because I had been hyping up the spicy hummus, and we were excited to go. We arrived around 7:16 PM, and right away the cashier was rude and told us our order had to be to-go because after 7:20 PM they don't allow dine-in. I mentioned it was only 7:18, and she responded with attitude, saying, "Oh, it just turned 7:20." I don't mind paying for good, quality food--even if it's not cheap--but I won't tolerate rude service. No matter how good the food is, the experience matters just as much. Great locally owned Mediterranean plate. My friend and I split the Full Chicken Kabob plate with white rice, mashawi Cole slaw, and garlic fries because we both weren't too hungry, but it was a ton of food for the both of us. The food came out fast and hot. The chicken was delicious! Super juicy and flavorful. The rice had a slight buttery taste and was super fluffy and paired well with the chicken. The garlic fries were hot and crispy and came with tons of garlic. The mashawi Cole slaw was not your typical American Cole slaw, it was very herby and vinegary. Every time I come visit my family in LA, I have to get this spot! The restaurant itself is pretty small with 6-8 tables inside. The staff here are so sweet and friendly. Food was delicious! I moved back recently to Lawndale and had to try out my favorite spot for 5 years ago ! As well the cashier a young girl being the sweetest! I felt so welcomed she truly made my day ! They close at 8 now so I totally understand having to take out at 8:20 or 8:30 food takes 15 to 20 minutes and of course nobody would want to rush out eating their food. Best customer service compared to Torrance location..... they need to improve lol. I read reviews on this location and honestly, I think people need to be a little bit more open minded because someone complaining that they entered at 7:16 and were told to take out is so funny because if we can be honest that time it's already 7:20 lets be serious..... i love Masawaii you guys are awesome especially the Manger she is so talktive and kind to me and my husband. read more

I'm bumping this to 5 stars since my last review ten years ago (!). Chicken shawarma sandwich is every bit as good as before, if not better. Maybe has the edge on Zankou these days, even. Price - $13 out the door. Everything is expensive these days, however I would say that this is fair - delicious, filling for lunch. I like to add hot sauce, which takes this to another level. I mean first things first, their chicken is amazing. The chicken kebab plate or wrap - I can't vouch for the shawarma. I've been coming here (and their Torrance location) for about a decade now because of the chicken. I generally love the food and don't mind the service I receive because I typically take it out. Now, you may be wondering why I'm leaving a 1-star review. Yelp and Google both have their close time as 8:30. I called tonight (Monday May 19) at 7:55 and the phone rang for about 2 minutes before I hung up. I live nearby, so I decided to drive there. When I got to the restaurant at 8:11 (which is about when my order would have been ready if they had picked up the phone...), the cashier told me that they close at 8:15 and they are no longer taking orders. They don't have hours posted on/near the door, so I can't confirm this, but again, Yelp and Google both have their close time at 8:30. Also, I am also confident I have picked up food between 8:15 and 8:30 in the past - I try to avoid restaurants close to close, so it happens once a blue moon. I used to work in the restaurant industry and sure it was annoying when people came in right before we close, but I would still serve them. My bad, I guess. This may have been an isolated incident, but service is typically not great when I eat in the restaurant. After reading other reviews, I think service is a persistent problem. It pains me to do this because it is one of my favorite places to eat out, but I hope this will spark change. read more

I ordered a gyro plate to go but never been here before. I haven't eaten but it felt light in comparison to Maison Chicken portions. Seriously, as soon as they handed me the bag I knew something was off. It was the weight of a snackbag of potato chips like WTH. I came to this place to try out their food as I am always looking for the next best in California. Good food is tough to come by in SoCal. In my honest opinion, I was not impressed. My ordered consisted of a chicken shawarma a small side of hummus and a can of soda. The shawarma was a subpar at most. It was chicken wrapped in a small pita bread with some garlic sauce. It was definitely missing some of the key ingredients you are supposed find in a sandwich like this, such as a pickle at minimum. The hummus was ok. In regards to seasoning, some olive oil and paprika.. definitely not the seasoning I would expect from a middle eastern restaurant. Finally, I was charged $3.50 for a 12oz soda can. I think this is the most I've ever spent on a can of soda in my life. Service was quick, staff about 2, customers 1 other than me. Instead of hopping on the freeway and heading to Kings Hawaiian:The Local Place as planned, I saw this place along the way, anchoring a mini-mall next to the In n Out Burger Drive. On an impulse, I pulled into their drive. Time for an impulsive culinary adventure! Ordered the tri-tip shawarma. It came to my table in less than 10 minutes...on a white square plate. The sandwich was completely wrapped in foil, as if to go, not to dine in, so the display of the sandwich did not get me excited about what I was about to eat. No matter, it's the taste that counts. Alas. I opened up the sandwich and it looked like it was filled with dry broken bits of lavash. The sandwich seemed like it had been sitting around and wasn't made fresh, maybe I got someone's go-to order...but the pita/lavash was soggy in the middle and hard on the inside with the brittle broken bits. The tri tip itself had a strange texture and no seasoning, except when I ate some harder burnt bits (which actually tasted good)... I eat Mediterranean food at least once a week so I know something was wrong with the assembly and freshness of the food. And no small container of sauce to help. Too bad. If the sandwich doesn't come with garlic or yogurt sauce, you might consider a small container of something to accompany. Just a suggestion. Would make a better impression when the sandwich comes to the table. There were plenty of diners who were enjoying their food. And their food seemed served for dining in...the friendly girl at the register even asked me if my order was for dining in or taking out...I said clearly dining in...oh well, maybe I just got someone's bad day. Too bad. The girl who took my order was nice and definitely didn't have anything to do with the poor assembly of my wrap sandwich.
