Mostly Japanese rolls and hot entrees plus the obligatory pad thai and general tso chicken on the menu, the service and food here were both average at lunch. Currently running a "grand opening" discount of 30% at dinner and 15% at lunch, every little bit helps but I have no idea when it ends. Think this is a 2.5 star place. I visited for lunch on a weekday when about half the tables were occupied. Lunch specials are $10 (two rolls plus soup/salad) or $12 (three rolls or a bento lunch). I started with miso soup which was pretty mediocre; served warmish-hot and didn't have much depth of flavor at all, not worth getting. My nameless dining companion :) had the salad, big chunks of romaine drenched in the typical Japanese-place orange ginger dressing, not memorable but definitely better than their miso. I'm not an expert on rolls. I chose a spicy tuna roll and a spicy yellowtail roll, both were essentially pate; i.e., a chopped-fish concoction, not long strips of fish alongside slices of avocado or cucumber. Tasty, but not even the slightest little bit of spicy. Rice wrapping on outside was a hint dry. The box lunch was a lot more food for two more dollars. Beef teriyaki was ordered medium rare and arrived medium well, served in a sauce that was like thick gravy, too much cornstarch, people! Shumai (chinese pork dumplings) were pretty good. The generous portion of rice was a bit dry, not quite crunchy, but not the perfect soft consistency. And the seaweed salad in sesame oil had its usual consistency of cruncy core and slippery exterior. Food came quickly, but the front of the house service was mixed .. some staffers were friendly, others pretty gruff. The garish bright orange colors on the exterior continue on the inside, where they are somewhat well matched with the dark floor and huge, deep blue fish tank. It's fairly easy to get a seat even when it's very busy (which it is on the weekends) Cons: The wait staff is unique in the sense that they treat you very nice walking in but as soon as you finish eating your meal they want you to leave and stare at you until you do so haha. Philadelphia roll was yummy, but sashimi was TINY. I was really surprised that I had paid $6 for so little. My biggest issue, though, was with our waitress's attitude. It was awful. She made a face when I asked her to repeat what she was saying, and she gave me a hard time about gluten-free issues. Updated review I've been consistently ordering from masago since it opened in Morristown and have had a chance to compare it to their sister location in ridgewood. Food: Everything is still great when ordering. He quality of the fish is up to par. The portions compared to other places that do half priced is above average. The cuts of fish are up to par. Can't complain. Service: Unlike some of my other reviews, the service here has declined and it feels like an inconvenience at times. There have been nights where we've been there to closing and there have been nights where we were rushed out and hurried along. Gone are the smiles and warm greetings. Most recently we had a waitress who clearly didn't want to be there and just grimaced the entire time. We've been ordering take out and delivery pretty frequently as well and the last few times it's taken an ungodly amount of time for the food to arrive. Ex: we were told it would be 45 minutes, an hour and twenty five minutes later we were still waiting for our food. Overall: I will still continue to frequent masago but adjustments to expectations are necessary on the service side. read more

I have been a resident for Morristown for a few years now and I'm upset I haven't found this place sooner. The wait staff are polite, fast, and attentive and the kitchen staff is crazy efficient. The food is incredible and you will leave stuffed, and if you get just sushi, it won't hurt the wallet either. This place is a hidden gem, kind of tucked away from the Green. On some days there is a wait, but I believe it's worth it. Plus, since they're fast, you'll get your food pretty quickly. A sushi strike-out. We've only ever been to one of the many sushi places in Morristown, and decided to branch out. Even with the 30% discount for dinner, this was not worth it. Two of the women who seemed to be answering the phone, waitressing, and seating people asked if we were ready to order within thirty seconds of each other; we actually needed a couple minutes to read the menu. As we left, one of them stood next to our table as we gathered our phones and put away the credit card, and started clearing the table as soon as we'd stepped away, even though there were plenty of open tables and it was still a couple hours short of closing time. We started with an order of gyoza, which were nice and hot when they came out. That and the tempura salmon roll were fine, and fine was as high as my praise goes. We were decidedly unimpressed with the eel cucumber roll, philadelphia roll, and tuna avocado roll - the fish didn't taste fresh and wasn't sliced well, the rice was dry and made us wonder when it had been cooked, and the tamago sushi he had fell apart when he picked them up. We didn't finish our disappointing meal, and we definitely won't be back or recommending it to friends. read more

If you're expecting a pure Japanese food experience, this isn't it. But if you're willing to eat fusion and be surprised, it's pretty good. Masago replaced Wabi-Sabi with a brighter restaurant in the same location. I believe it's a different owner (pretty sure). The menu is big - lots of appetizers, a full range of sushi, sashimi, and maki, hot dishes, a Thai menu, and a vegetarian/vegan menu with fake meat that my wife approved of. Service was quick and pleasant, and the waitress brought out a sample plate "on the house" of some seaweed salad and what I believe was tuna in a cucumber roll. I ordered the Osaka Box and the Sushi Pizza, primarily because everything is 30% off for their grand opening. The fish was fresh - but it's fusion! The Sushi Pizza had a citrus sauce and mango; the Osaka Box had coconut and strawberry sauce. My wife was pleased with her vegetarian eggplant & chik'n. Overall, I'm going to try it again without ordering "special rolls" and give it a shot, but the first trip was good and I'd go again. read more

It's always nice to see another sushi restaurant in Morristown. We have so many already and you can only go to Asahi, Sushi Lounge and J. Hinari so many times before getting bored. This place is a real gem. It seems as though the previous location (Wabi-Sabi) went out of business and Masago took over. But i really think they just changed the name and the menu and moved around some staff. However, this all does not matter. Because Masago was incredible. The fish was fresh, the appetizers are amazing. The tokyo special is incredible and their Sushi Pizza is amazing. Me and my friend ordered a few special rolls some sashimi and a whole bunch of appetizers. I couldn't be more satisfied, we ordered so much food that we had to take half home for late night munchies. The 30% off coupon is really great and brings the price down to a reasonable cost. Most rolls special rolls are priced between 10-15 dollars. 30% off is pretty great considering the size and amount of fish they give you. I haven't tried their thai food, i am sure its great. My only gripe is the location, even though there is a parking garage right next door, its quite a pain to find a spot at night. I will be going back again and again. read more
