BIERGARDEN @ ENCINITAS…read more Parking can be a little difficult since this spot is located right on the main strip in Encinitas. There's parallel street parking throughout the area, so you might get lucky and find a spot nearby. I ended up parking on one of the side streets, which worked out perfectly. I came here on a Sunday afternoon, and it was definitely busy. We had to wait a little while for a table because several tables still needed to be cleaned before they could seat new guests. The staff was incredibly friendly, though, and we were seated as soon as they could. It did take about 15 minutes before a server was able to come over and take our order, but the restaurant was completely packed, so it's something to keep in mind if you're in a hurry. After spending the day at the beach, we were really just in the mood for drinks. I ordered the Blood Orange Margarita, which can be served with Tajín, sea salt, or no rim at all. It was really good and definitely on the stronger side, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that there was a bit too much ice, but the flavor itself was great. The atmosphere is what really makes this place stand out. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, large open windows that let in plenty of fresh air, and a fun, lively vibe that makes it a great place to relax after a beach day. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the ambiance and cocktails, just be prepared for a little wait if you visit during peak hours.

Everything chef Gio recommended was so good! All the online menu pictures you see look just like what you get. We started with the salmon specialty which was the perfect sweet and salty combination. Then we had tuna nigiri that was great and my favorite the hamachi specialty which I thought was so unique and delicious! We also had some yellowtail hand rolls. I've never had a hand roll before and wow! We ended up ordering more they were so good. We had the Southtown roll which I thought was great and not too spicy (I took off the jalapeño and gave it to my boyfriend). We also had what I believe was yellowtail sashimi which also was great and not too spicy. Everything was super fresh and every employee was so nice. This place is all my boyfriend and I have been talking about the past 2 days. I cannot wait to go back!

The place has a large central bar with a few tables around the periphery as well as a few outside on the sidewalk. The decor is clean and modern and the place has a vibey feel. Not exactly sure how to rate this place. If rating it as a bar primarily that also has decent sushi, I'd give it five stars. If rating it as a sushi bar I'd give it three stars. All of the sushi that I had (nigiri, cut rolls and hand rolls) were good but nothing special. If you're looking for a great sushi experience, this is likely not the place. They have a small selection of Japanese and local craft beers as well as bottled and tap sake. I originally characterized the service as slow and inattentive. But looking at it from the perspective of a bar, it was casual and friendly in the slow way you'd expect for hanging out in a bar and socializing or watching sports.

We tried different marinades and various fish, but my hands-down favorites were the lobster tacos (lemon butter) and the red snapper (fish shop) tacos. We also ordered large sides. They do NOT skimp out on these. Massive onions rings and a large pile of fries. All were delicious! The kids liked their grilled cheese sandwiches. "Best grilled cheese besides the ones we make at home." Only downside on the food was the clam chowder. Good flavor but hardly any clams (if any). I wouldn't get that again, but everything else was phenomenal. I almost rated this down to a 4 because of this (and a small order mishap), but honestly, this place is worth a solid 5 based on the overall food, vibes, and staff. This place's vibes are super chill. You can either sit inside or out. Very clean all around! Well-maintained restrooms and tables too. Solid drink options - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic as well! Would definitely go back!

I have no doubt that this cozy spot is crowded AF on the weekends though. They have outdoor seating with umbrellas for shade. Most of the shaded tables we're taken so I opted to sit inside. You order at the counter and coffee & water are self service. After looking at the menu I decided on the corned beef hash and my friend asked me to order her kid a grilled cheese sandwich so she wouldn't have to wait to eat since it was a long drive for them. The hash was good. I should have asked them to make it a bit crispier though as is it has a lot of flavor and I saw some celery in there. Happy to eat more fiber I asked for my eggs to be medium over and they were cooked as asked. Food came out in a reasonable time and overall experience was good.

I'm somewhere between a 3 and 4 on this place. Came once for dinner and once for HHour…read more The dinner was good with a nice ambience, but a bit pricey to make it stand out. That said we came back for HHour. What was disappointing to me about HHour was the dearth of selection when it came to HH priced food. Due to this dearth, pretty much everyone in the entire bar was ordering the exact same thing for happy hour: The Happy Meal, which consists of a burger, fries, 3 oysters, and champagne. The presentation of the Happy Meal is very nice. The burger tasted very much like an In N Out burger to me, but with a much larger patty. It was good, but despite the similarity we think In N Out burger slightly edged out Herb and Sea's take. The fries were quite delicious. The oysters were large, but they're taste was meh. The same could be said for the bubbles/champagne: a large pour, but nothing to write home about. Due to the lack of food choices on the HH menu, we also ordered the scallop aguachile. It would have been nice if they would have labeled it something else, like a "deconstructed" aguachile. The scallop quality was very good, and the flavor was fine, but this dish is nothing what I expected; I expected a hearty bowl of spicy fish, like one might find at Ironside (Little Italy) or Mitch's Seafood (Point Loma). They had very few beer choices, but the Bulbous Flowers was delicious!!!
