I came in here the other day for my new patient physical and everything went very smooth I got the orders that I needed, the doctor was very respectful the room was very clean and the parking was very accommodating. The doctor was very respectful and attentive to my needs, she was very personal it didn't seem like I was just another patient being seen. It's always important for me to find a doctor's office that is very accommodating to my schedule and the doctor is very attentive and respectful to your concerns. A lot of the time, physicians listen to half your sentence and already diagnose the issue. But Dr Kasem hears your concerns and gives you her feedback and explains it thoroughly. And last but not least Joanne and Monica were very friendly and staff in the front was very respectful and everything is very clean throughout the facility. During the ongoing pandemic, it's important to keep all areas clean as possible and they also socially distance in the waiting room. I've been going to Dr Mary Kasem for my annual visits ever since 2017 and have been satisfied with her services. On January 24, 2022 I went for my usual annual visit, it was the same as any other year prior and we had a good time talking. She checked my weight and heart pressure to make sure it didn't increase from previous years. I've even talked to a young Taiwanese American Dr that day and we had a great chat as well. In a month a bill came from Chaparral Med Group and informed that on top of what my insurance (Anthem Bluecross) paid, I had to pay an extra $106 because "it is my first visit" to Mary. I thought this was going to be an easy fix because after all, all the receptionist had to do was to check my file at the office (Mary knew my weight didn't increase from the last visit, so that's hard evidence that she had my previous visitation on file) and we can waive this code. Nope. I called Mary's office number first, the receptionist said it's now at billing and THERE'S NOTHING SHE CAN DO FOR ME. CALL BILLING. When I called billing, that's when the nightmare began. I'd call for days and it'd goto voice mail. Non were returned. When I finally reached someone, they REFUSED TO LISTEN, AND REFUSED TO TALK FURTHER TO ME DIRECTLY. I needed to call Anthem and ask them to call Mary's billing. So for the past 2 months, 4 different Anthem reps have been calling for me. When the 1st rep finally got a live person on the phone, they agreed to change the code and change the fee. 2 weeks later I got another bill for the same $106! I had to do the same thing over again, explain my situation to the reps again and again for the past 2 months, and they said Mary's billing agreed (for the first 3 times they called) to waive the fee. Last week, at the end of March, I got another bill for $106, this time threatening me that that this bill will go to collections if I don't pay up! I called Anthem again, it took us 2 days to reach a live person from Mary's billing number. And this time they said they have never agreed to waive this fee! I've then sent all my visitations from Health Equity's site to the Anthem rep, and we're still here, stuck at this stage. At this point, it is a matter of principle. I will fight this til the end. Mary if you're reading this, you're losing a loyal patient for the past 5 years because of your billing mistake. And you're getting a 1 star from me until you fix it. No one should ever have to go through this EVER!! read more

In late June 2024 I saw Dr. Kasem for the first and only time. My general practitioner was away and there was no way to determine if or when she would return. Dr. Kasem was seeing my doctor's patient's, and upon entering her office I noticed what appeared to be an inordinate number of medical charts on her desk; I assumed this was due to the increase in patient load, which fit with my assessment of her when she entered the examination room: She appeared exhausted, agitated, and generally cold or unfriendly. She saw me for 20 minutes during which she asked no questions. I explained that I was being treated for cancer, but was there to obtain a prescription refill on a controlled substance, one that I had taken for more than a decade. I could see that she was not pleased, so for several reasons I shared a recollection of getting a judgemental reaction from pharmacists in the past for using the aforementioned medication. Dr. Kasem abruptly and loudly said 'Don't you know we [doctors] can lose our licenses for prescribing this.' I thought about explaining my use of this medication, but knew that she wasn't going to discuss it. She suggested I see a psychiatrist to obtain the medication, but offered no referral or names of psychiatrists in the area. Ten days after the appointment and a call to her office explaining why I was angry about my treatment (or lack of), I received a prescription for two days of medication. It was unlikely that I would have serious side effects from going 10 days without the medication, but it was possible. That said, in summary, she offered nothing: no referral, no sympathy, no consideration of the stress she compounded by rejecting my request while I was facing daily treatment for cancer, no refill, no alternative medication, no interest in hearing my history or why I took this medication. She offered nothing but judgement, so there is no circumstance in which I would recommend her to anyone, not even my worst enemy. read more

Dr. Kasem is awesome but her front office staff are the worst. The minute her receptionist picks up the phone, she has attitude. She needs to be replaced because she obviously doesn't work well with humans. Maybe dog grooming would be a better fit for her personality? read more

In my 46 years I've never experienced such a kind, compassionate and patient doctor. Dr. Kasem has been our family doctor for the past 9 years and we couldn't imagine anyone else providing care for us. She's knowledgeable, unbiased, honest and forthright. To be honest, I look forward to my visits with her as she truly makes me feel welcomed and cared for. I wish everyone had a "Dr. Kasem" in their life! read more

TERRIBLE DOCTOR. Not only does she not listen but she has no advice on what to do if you are truly sick. All I saw were blank stares. I had to ask for any blood work I thought was necessary even though I am not the doctor. She is dangerous. Please beware. side note: her nurse is GREAT. read more

I waited almost an hour to be seen today. I was taken to a room next to Dr. Kasem's office where I saw her looking at her phone and listening (rather loudly) to a pharmaceutical presentation. It's pretty sad that this office has such blatant disregard for their patients time and health concerns. Dr. Kasem made very clearly that her priorities are not with the care of her patients. The last time I was there, I was in the same patient room waiting and could hear her call a patient (her office door wide open) and give rather upsetting health news. Dr. Kasem lacks discretion, care and respect for her patients. As I was leaving the office today (without being seen), the nurse followed me out saying that Dr. Kasem was ready to seem me. Aside from the long wait (not their fault, someone needed an ambulance in the parking lot) this was my first visit to this office and with several medical issues Dr. Kasem, Alma and Joann tackled multiple referrals and helped answer my questions. I have been going to Dr Kasem for over two years. I never have to wait for an appointment. She has been very thorough in the exam. Nurses have been very attentive. She trains new doctors, and will always ask first before bringing them in. Very happy with my treatment for the last two years. My last appointment was a week ago. read more

To be honest she seems but doesn't care about her patients and it's pretty obvious just by one visit with her. She goes through the motions as far as doing diligence and asking pertinent questions. Very quick to diagnose when she has barely asked enough questions. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone based off of the fact that she doesn't seem like she actually cares genuinely about you or your health. Don't waste your time with her, there are a lot better doctors in the area. read more

Wow, Dr. Kasem was quite possibly the worst doctor I've ever seen. I went to her as a new patient because I had flu-like symptoms (sore throat, cough, low-grade fever, aches, congestion). The front office staff and nurse who took my vitals were efficient. I didn't have to wait long either in the general lobby or in the patient room. However, when Dr. Kasem showed up, she spent less than FIVE MINUTES with me. First of all, she didn't close the door to the patient room when she examined me. That was weird. I was fully dressed, so it wasn't a big deal, but I didn't really want the whole world listening in on my exam. She noted by my chart that I had a fever, took a look at my throat, proclaimed that I was congested (duh), and prescribed an antibiotic. No mention of Tamiflu, just automatically prescribed an antibiotic (which I'm not convinced that I needed). She didn't ask me ANY questions at all, even though I was a new patient and she new nothing about me. She didn't ask how long I'd been feeling symptoms; I had to volunteer the info, and even then she didn't seem interested in hearing it. Also, she should have seen in my chart that I had told the nurse I was on birth control pills; she did not say anything to me about the fact that antibiotics can render birth control pills ineffective. I happen to know this already, but this is such a critically important medical fact that she should have been warning me about it. I also told her that I used an inhaler at nighttime but that I was down to 20 puffs and needed a new prescription. She nodded, but later I realized my comment was just in-one-ear-and-out-the-other. When I went to the nurse's desk to get my prescriptions, she gave me only the antibiotic one. I asked about my inhaler prescription, and she had to go back and talk to Dr. Kasem to get it. Wow. I've never had a doctor just simply not listen what I was saying. So she spent less than 5 minutes with me and rushed out. I didn't see any other patients around, and yet she seemed to be in a big rush. Her office was right next to the exam room that I was in, and it turns out she had apparently been organizing her office when I came for my appointment, and she was in a big hurry to get back to that. Really? less than 5 minutes with me and then she's putzing around moving stacks of books in her office? I've never had a doctor so blatantly not care about me.
