Dan and Sam are good guys. I had them upgrade my Mid 2010 Mac Pro with an extra internal hard drive and some SSD drives. Unfortunately, within a week or so my computer died. It was my logic board. They advised me to find another Mac Pro of a similar vintage. They said replacing the board is expensive and they couldn't guarantee how long it might last. I bought another Mid 2010 Mac Pro and they transferred the hard drives over to the new machine at no cost. They are generous, knowledgeable and honest. I feel I can trust their judgement. I hope I don't see them often - but if I need some of their expertise I would not hesitate to go back. read more

They fixed the battery issue in my MacBook much more efficiently and for less $ than a trip to the Apple Store, and recently they also unlocked an old MacBook to which I had forgotten the password ages ago in just 5 minutes for free. When I first went looking for a Mac Tech on Yelp, I couldn't believe that any company deserved a perfect 5 stars especially when I saw almost 200 reviews. Well, this isn't hype. Robert, Seth and Matt have exceeded my expectations. I brought in a "dead on arrival" 2 month old Macbook Pro that my daughter had spilled water on. We were told by the Apple Genius Bar that it was "not economically repairable". Matt, dried it, cleaned a couple of water residue spots on the Logic Board and Voila, my computer was as good as new. Everybody at the shop congratulated me and wound up charging me much less than I would have expected for the amount of time they put into the fix. These guys are legit! The reason I'm typing on this computer at all today is Matt from Tech Studio. I went in thinking my laptop power supply was broken (my husband and I did everything we could over the phone with Toshiba). But Matt tested my power adapter with the meter and told me it was still supplying power -- he suggested replacing the surge protector. Even though at home I had reset my surge protector and the light on the strip was on, it was in fact broken. Cuz as soon as I replaced it, my power supply (and computer) started back up. Matt did NOT charge me for the quick evaluation and was very pleasant to work with. If I ever have another PC or Ipad issue, I will def come here. read more

These guys really know how to save your digital bacon and bring the digital goods. As helpful as the Genius Bar can be for some minor things, if you have any problem with an Apple device that's out of warranty, or one that the GB can't handle satisfactorily (or affordably), Tech Studio will probably be able to save you, or save your device, or save you money and time. The reason is that this crew actually has hands-on experience with the technology and the crazy-making, infinitesimally small and fragile connectors and components that Apple uses to make all their devices cool, small and light -- compared with the GB people, who are limited to whatever solutions are allowed by the Apple GB playbook. Example 1: We have a tricked out 2010 27" iMac that was undergoing some video weirdness (wavy lines, blacking out, much like me back in my college days), and the Genius Bar solution: New logic board, $700+ that may or may not fit the problem.) The crew at Tech Studio espied the problem right away and simply re-seated the display and connectors. Fixed, with minimal out of pocket. Example 2: I tried to resuscitate an out-of-use iPhone 5 by replacing its exhausted battery. I succeeding in taking it apart, and utterly failed (as is usually the case in home repairs, as the i-Devices are so devilishly compact) in putting all the little bits back together. I honestly think the Tech Studio guys are born with Microscope Eyes™, as my TS expert only had to look at my kludged together 5 to see that I mashed up some of the tiny connectors. They popped in a new display and put it all together (this time professionally and correctly), and the next day I'm back in biz with a 5 that now serves as the world's coolest and most multi-talented bike computer. Technology, by nature if not by definition, is going to find a way to break down or get shattered, If you're a casual Mac or iOS kind of individual, you should get these guys in your speed dial or contacts right away (and, of course, be sure to back it up!). You will at some point sooner or later want them in your corner. If, on the other hand, you're a super nerd who loves all things gadget-y, there's plenty of reason to pop by, in the form of a carefully and inventively curated stock of stands, mics, lenses, cases and device appurtenances. It really is one delight after another -- if you like that kind of thing. Finally, they are exceptionally local. And I'd say they are friendly, too, with the caveat that these are people who love devices and gadgets and engineering things and then reverse engineering them, and I've found that that kind of personality type can get a little bit impatient with mere mortals and civilians. read more

Worst customer service I have ever received in my life. I took my computer in for a battery replacement and a tune up as it was running quite slow... After my computer being there for over a week and having not heard a word I went and picked up my computer as I needed it for work and was told my replacement battery still had not arrived but they had done the light tune up on my computer. My computer was running at the exact same speed and nothing seemed different. I didn't hear from Tech Studio for next week regarding my battery. I called them multiple times following up and they either didn't know the status of the order and kept being told I would be called back. After 10 days and still no update I called up to explain what had been going on and that I was very upset with the service so far. Finally someone explain to me that the battery had arrived a few days after I had initially brought in my laptop but no one seemed to know where it had gone so they ordered me a new one and I was offered a deluxe tune up and a RAM upgrade, the next time I called up to check on order of the battery and explained what I had been told previously re getting a RAM upgrade for my troubles and the delay I was told that they "would never offer that as it was very expensive and if someone did say that there would be consequences". One month after I had brought my laptop in for the first time I finally got the battery replaced and got the deluxe tune up for no extra cost but no RAM upgrade. The whole month that this was going on it was always me phoning up the company asking for updates and every time I spoke to some they were always rude and short with me and I never received a sincere apology. I honestly think if I had no chased them about my battery I never would of heard from them again even though I had paid for it in full. I have a new battery now but there doesn't seem to be that much difference in the running of my computer even with the deluxe tune up. The whole thing took over a month to sort and was a massive waste of time and energy. Go elsewhere if you can - at the very least you will get service with a smile! read more

I brought my Macbook Pro in when the HDD started failing. They recovered my data and installed a new one. When that HDD turned out to be faulty, they offered to replace it for free. What a relief it was to get help from the experts at Tech Studio. I recently built a gaming computer from scratch which went well until I came up against very long load times when trying to install Windows. I finally gave up after about a week of troubleshooting and many different solutions tried, which I detailed in a desperate plea to Reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/4y0sdt/build_complete_but_cant_tell_if_software_or/ I found Tech Studio here on Yelp and loved their great reviews and their (new) location, just down the street from me in Mar Vista. Robert, the owner, emailed with me and was very sympathetic to my built up frustration. I brought it in on a Tuesday and he promised to have a diagnostic done by Friday for about $50. To my delight, I got a call from the assigned tech Matt after lunch on Thursday with a few follow up questions. He outlined the troubleshooting he had done and was going to do. He called back an hour or two later with the diagnosis, it seems the hard drive I'd added for purely extra storage (used an SSD for OS and programs) was causing some sort of electrical interference with the system. The drive itself was working fine itself but was messing with the rest of the system when plugged in. With it removed the problem was fixed! This is something I NEVER would have discovered on my own, I'm so glad they were able to isolate the problem given how obscure and rare it was. i was so happy to find this place again as I had used them for computer repair when they had an office on Abbott Kinney. I took my Mac Book pro which was completely dead dreading that it would cost lots of money to fix as my warranty had expired.
