Everything here was amazing and our waitress was so nice and very attentive. We started with the cheese and prosciutto homemade chips. OH MY GOD. The dry Vella jack cheese and prosciutto get so crispy and the creme is such a refreshing dip. My boyfriend had the crab salad and truffle mac and cheese for his entree. The mac n cheese was so creamy and perfectly flavored. I had the wedge salad and Brussels sprouts. The Brussel sprouts had beef bacon which I had never had but I think I like more than pork. And there was so much bacon! Dessert was peach cobbler and pecan tart which was AMAZING! read more

Solid if somewhat standard breakfast buffet. They have a nice selection of all of the standard US options (fruit, yogurt, french toast, pancakes, omelets, oatmeal, etc) and they make sure to have all the standard fixings you would want. They also include some aytpical things like chicken dim sum. They don't seem to have any options for table service at breakfast time so I guess it's buffet or nothing. Which is mostly okay I guess but not the best for a business meeting. Worth going here if you are staying at Marriott but not worth a special trip. read more

Came for the breakfast / brunch. A bit pricey but food is good! Great Eggs Benedict is great. Fruit with Lemon Creme' Fraiche is so yummy! Good Mimosas and Bloody Mary's. Buffett is overpriced, just order regular breakfast off menu read more

The dinner here was excellent and I was going to post four stars. But the next morning we had their buffet. . . And my husband and I were blown away! This is the freshest large selection breakfast buffet we have had in forever. Highly recommend based on the quality of the food. As for the staff? They were the nicest and most helpful people who were very attentive and happy to provide drinks to bring back to our room even. Overall: best Marriott restaurant we have been to. We highly recommend. read more

I went for late night apps and drinks. I had a taco and Kai had a pesto chicken flatbread. It is pricey but what do you expect from a hotel restaurant. Both were delicious! The bar tenders were very friendly and attentive. This was a great way to end the night. read more

I came here for the wine tasting and happy hour and I was not disappointed. Can you really say no to $7/half-dozen oysters at a resort hotel in San Diego?? They have a great patio that overlooks the marina, where you can enjoy your tasty bites and sips. read more

We stayed at the Marriott Marquis with a large extended family group. I did not have high expectations based on previous experience at other Marriott properties (including the NYC flagship). I was pleasantly surprised. We had breakfast every day and the quality of the buffet was exceptional--lots of choices and everything fresh. They have a great bar with lots of local beers on tap. Dinner was the best we had in San Diego. Everything from steak to swordfish was excellent. The chicken pot pie was a standout. They've got a great wine list with lots of good values from California and beyond. To cap it all off, the chef brought fresh baked chocolate chip cookies for our entire group. It was a truly memorable evening, which capped off a great stay. I'd come back. read more

Ambience and service fantastic for a hotel restaurant. My seafood salad was fresh and fabulous, and a great deal at only $19. Makes up for paying $15 to park :-) read more

What a lovely dinner overlooking the marina. The staff were very friendly & the food was good. The only reason I did not give a 5 star was all of the confusion to finding my party. But once we found the group it was a fun business dinner. read more

This place is terrible... go anywhere else. I ordered the gnocchi and added chicken to the order. It was literally 6 bites of gnocchi burnt on top of some tomato sauce. The menu stated one price... I was charged 3 dollars more-- not including the chicken add-on price. I asked for the tab to be split. I was charged a split price and a regular price. I inquired about the fee with receipts and they told me is was a bank holding fee, and that it would clear itself up... Avoid this place if you can. read more

We stay at the Marriott Marquis often for weekend getaways or to catch an early flight out the next day. We dine at the Marina Kitchen for its convenience. While it may be a bit pricey, we have never been disappointed! There are always plenty of tables available when we dine (5-5:30 p.m.) and the service is always excellent. I usually order one of the "Chef's Specials" and have found them delicious, often wishing they would be available the next time we dine because they are so good! read more

We stopped in for a glass of wine on our way to the San Diego Pops Bayside concert. It was 5:00 p.m. There were only about four parties there at the time, two at tables and a couple of singles at the bar. Our server, Sam, took our order for a premium glass of wine each. We waited, we waited and we waited. We actually made a joke about waiting for the grapes to grow. There were no fewer than six servers and two bartenders congregating and chatting in the service area. Still we waited. Finally the wine came and Sam asked if we'd like bread, which we did. She brought it very quickly. For most of the time there the number of servers outnumbered the guests, so I observed them as they gathered together to chat. The female servers who had long hair (mostly in a pony tail) kept running their fingers thru their hair. I wondered if they washed their hands before serving food. read more

I was recently here visiting my boyfriend while he was on a work trip and I do have to say that the bartenders and staff were the ones making me want to come back every night! Corey and Steven are AWESOME! We sat at the bar and enjoyed the drinks Corey made for us and joked around with both of them! We went to the gas lamp and tried some bars downtown but we kept on wanting to come back to the hotel bar because of the good vibes and GREAT customer service! Corey is an awesome bartender and Steven is a bar back soon to be bartender hopefully and he was nothing but knowledgeable and kind! Thank you guys for a great time!! If anyone is staying at the Marriott or nearby, I suggest giving this bar a try! You wont be disappointed! Oh and the live music both nights was AWESOME! Keyboard player took all request and could play anything and the two gentleman singing the night before were perfect for a late night atmosphere! read more

The ham and cheese omelette is very good. Great coffee and service was good. I would have preferred to sit by a window with a water view.

I didn't have food here, but I did meet a co-worker for cocktails before dinner. Very friendly bartenders and patrons. Their wine, beer and liquor selection was extensive. I checked out the bar menu, which had your typical selections. The restaurant menu was much more elaborate and could accommodate anyone's taste. I'll definitely make another visit to this place. read more

Went to the spa at the Marriott and part of my package included lunch at the restaurant. Ordered the crab cakes and a glass of wine, which were good. Just had a double Patron with their ice ball maker! We went here on a lazy Saturday afternoon and I must say it really made my weekend! The new Marina Kitchen Bar is well done, bright spacious and filled with great staff. Beer was ICE cold and delicious. Several different types of local micro brews and even a couple types of wine on tap. I had the angus burger on brioche bun with the fries. I am a burger freak and I would have to say that this is one of the better burgers in town. We enjoyed the 4th of July Buffet. The food was excellent and the service was excellent, however we had no knowledge of the 18% service charge on our bill (for dining only we were not guests). I tried looking all over their website to see if it was disclosed and it wasn't. We tipped at 20% for excellent service, which we had. I'm a planner and budget for nice meals that we can enjoy as a family so getting kicked in the gut for an undisclosed service charge was a little disappointing. Pay your employees more so the cost doesn't trickle down to consumers OR DISCLOSE it. read more

Slow service. Over priced breakfast 1 small kids orange juice was $6 I'm ok with paying this if it was worth the price! It was not organic not fresh squeezed just plain OJ. Breakfast was very average considering location and the hotel it is in I expected a lot more. It is overpriced to say the least. The portions were big but not good, oh yeah a cup of coffee regular coffee was $6 as well. read more

We had a terrible experience at this restaurant. The service was extremely slow and the order was wrong for a couple people in our party. The waiter rarely came by our table and when we asked for a bill it took a half hour for it to arrive. When he brought it it was wrong and he couldn't correct it. He had to have a manager come over and fix it and the manager refused to remove the 18% gratuity or offer any concession for the poor service and errors with the bill. I will never eat here again, and I will warn others not to eat here! It's a bad representation of a Marriott property restaurant! read more

This was definitely an "okay" experience. Not great... not horrendous. We were looking for a quick, light breakfast just to hold us over, so we wandered toward the food we could see from the main lobby. The set up was a little confusing; there was no clear hostess or host stand, nor obvious entry area, so we were way in to the restaurant before someone told us we needed to go back out and put our name in. We did that and sat to wait for our table, buzzer thingy in hand. We were told it would be 5-10 minutes, so after 20 minutes we sent a scout up to see what was going on. The hostess said she'd been calling our name for several minutes, and skipped us on the list. She ignored the fact that our buzzer had never gone off, and that we were seated 5 yards away from her where we would have been able to hear her hollers. No apology, just another wait while she gets back to us on the list. We finally got called, and led to our table (past several empty tables, I must add). Our server was polite, but very slow. The beverages, the food and the bill all took longer to get to us than they should have. The food itself was good... I had granola which was delicious, and others in the party had a smoothie, eggs and the chicken/mango sausage. The sausage didn't quite live up to its description, but overall the food was fine. A little attentiveness all around on the part of the staff would have improved this brunch tenfold. The next morning we opted for a Starbucks pastry and coffee. read more

Thanks to 4 stars on yelp, we decided to eat here instead of Edgewater Grill nearby. Since this was the last night of our staycation, we decided to splurge a bit. For app, we got the crab cakes AND seared ahi tuna. As you've read from my previous reviews, you know I'm quite the HO when it comes to crab cakes. And lemme tell ya- these crab cakes were pretty fcukin awesome. One of the best ever (top 2), IMHO. Normally, I'm not a big fan of cakes made from dungeoness crab, but the chefs here absolutely knocked this outta the park!! Tasty as all git up!! From there, it was downhill for the next step. Seared ahi tuna. 3 pieces....in a giant fcukin bowl. Really??? $18 and you wanna give me THREE pieces??? Get.the.fcuk.out. Don't get me wrong; they were good, just not $18 good. At a minimum, ANY seared ahi app should have AT LEAST SIX PIECES!!! Boooooo! Shame on you, Marina Kitchen!!! Boooooo! I was robbed!!! For my entree, i ordered the prime rib and it was pretty fcukin stellar. Tender, tasty, wonderful thick au jus, and all good, except the fact that it was a tad bit overcooked for "medium". Wifey ordered the short rib rigatoni, and while she liked it, the flavors were a bit too robust for her taste buds. I tasted it and it was awesome. Coulda been a tad bit more tender, but still pretty fcukin delish. Kids both ordered Mac and cheese from the kids menu, and they managed to even kick that up a notch by using white cheddar. For a simple Mac and cheese, it was pretty damn tasty. But the odd thing about it was that it tasted a little....grainy. Almost as if there was uber über über fine sand in the cheese sauce. Weird. Never had that before in a Mac and cheese. So if you're ever near the convention center and looking for a place to grub near seaport village, come here instead! Just avoid the seared ahi =) read more

Looks nice. Visited for only a few minutes. Came in with the family at 8:30 on a Friday night. Mistake. Practically a night club atmosphere at that time. Guitarist playing loudly on one end of the restaurant and mingling guests make the noise level unbearable and inescapable. The menu looked ok but not kid friendly at all. We sat down, were greeted by the waiter and when he left to get waters we realized this just wasn't the place for us and left. This is not a beg review on the establishment, rather a tip, just know what you type of restaurant/bar you're going to when you come here. read more

They're watching me, I swear. They've been following me for the last 45 days, taking note of all the little nuances of good food that I enjoy. They know i like my chicken soup with tender chunks of pulled chicken, not overdone, well seasoned with just enough oily broth to give it that chickeny flavor, without being fatty. They know I like to sit by the window and have a relaxing view, while I munch on my open faced albacore sandwich, flaky and moist, not too salty. They know I like my bread freshly baked, crunchy on the ouside and warm and moist on the inside; my greens with a light oil based dressing, and not too herby. And they even know my investment portfolio has been on fire lately in this world awash in global liquidity, and thanks to that I have the money to pay for this not-cheap-but-totally-worth-it lunch. read more

Ordered carry out to eat in the room at Marriott. Burger with fries and onion rings. Flavor on the burger was excellent. Juicy. Toppings were fresh. Cooked more than the medium temp requested but they didn't dry it out. Service was also great. All condiments and utensils made it in the bag, and the food was packaged well. This place met my needs as a solo business traveler. I'll take a decent meal that I can eat in the quiet of my own room while getting some work done over eating in the bar any day. read more

Good appetizers and drinks, but the environment was great for a hotel lounge. Definitely recommend stopping by.

Food was delicious, but for the price of it, the service was terrible. I kept having to ask to have my drink refilled and when they did it was not cold. Very disappointed and will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Nice decor and nice ambience, the service was slow and the vibe was very stand off-ish. My waitress took forever to return with the check, then again she never returned. I've taken my daughters and mother to this Mother's Day brunch for the last four years. We've had great customer service and the food has been fantastic. However, this Mother's Day the customer service (waitress/management) ruined our brunch and has changed our thoughts about ever choosing to come to this restaurant again. We were a party of nine and were seated quickly. We were not given a "Mother's Day Brunch" menu nor a separate "drink list", which would be expected if drinks were not included. So there wasn't anywhere to read prices, i.e. $14 Bottomless Mimosas or $19 Champagne. (Previous years Mimosas are included). The waitress never introduced herself. She just asked "would you like Mimosas?" So we ordered both Mimosas and Champagne. The food was fabulous, so this review isn't about the food. Jessica, the waitress, (I only know that because it's on my receipt) never asked if we wanted water or coffee. When at a buffet it is expected to have dirty plates and the waitress is expected to come by and remove plates. I was very disappointed that we would come back from the buffet line with a new plate of food and the dirty plate still sitting there. In order for us to put our new plate down we had to pass the dirty plates to the end of the table. THE BILL! Usually, a bill is presented to the table or the waitress asks if this "is this on one bill, or separate bills". We would have told her that we wanted five bills amongst our group. But she didn't! When we handed her the credit cards, the next questions should have been "how much on each card?" What she did is divided all the drinks amongst the four cards. The surprise came when each bill included portions of multiple drinks. When it was clear that those of us paying had charges that should not have been ours we quickly addressed it with the waitress. What we asked for is to charge us according to what each person drank, not split it in fifths. Forty-five minutes later after she had to cancel the original charges we received our bills. Parking goes up another $7 after 3 hours....and I was not pleased with how long it was taking to correct the bills. Conclusion - Marina Kitchen buffett has fabulous food, but the experience with Jessica and the manager has left a really bad taste for all of us. We'll won't be celebrating Mother's Day there again. The sad thing is the manager could have done 'customer recovery' by acknowledging that the restaurant failed to provide adequate information about the change in drink charges, instead of saying it was our responsibility to read their chalk board sign 30 ft. before the Hostess Desk. Or that a one page sheet of what is covered on "today's buffett", would have mitigated this. We didn't ask for them to remove the drink charges, just charge us according to what we drank! That is the responsibility of the waitress - Jessica! read more

We only had breakfast here, but what we had was great. considering it was a buffet, most of the food was really good. Some of the stuff that sits out for a while wasn't fresh, but still quite tasty. We thought it was a bit pricey, but considering breakfast comes with a glass of oj, and coffee, it works out to be a very fairly priced meal. read more

We had some friends staying at the Marriott and decided to meet them at the Marina Kitchen in the hotel lobby for dinner. What a mistake that was. I would have expected much better from a Marriott property. Incredibly, the food came out one by one as opposed to all together as you would expect with a family out to dinner. There were five in our party. The last meal came out over 30 minutes after the fourth dish. Drip....Drip....Drip.... The waitress was gracious, otherwise this would have been a one star review. She comped us one Piña Colada. Small consolation for the inconvenience and lousy experience. The expediter in the kitchen should be replaced. With all the choices in the Gaslamp, we won't be back for sure. read more

Service was good, but there was quality issues with undercooked and poorly prepared food. The chicken was served pink and undercooked and my friends shrimp was served not deveined. Both health risks and we explained to the server and manager who were very understanding, no problems at all with the kindness of staff it was just the food was inedible. read more

I don't think I have ever gone here where they haven't screwed up an order. If it's not the wrong appetizer, overcooked meat (does the kitchen know what medium-rare looks like?), or the fact they serve Pepsi (who wants to drink a Jack and Pepsi?) I have never had a good experience here despite going here half a dozen times because of its convenient location in the lobby of the Marriot. Also, this is another location that is under staffed during Comic Con weekend. The Marriott is a major partner for the convention, this place is adjacent to the convention center, I wish they would staff appropriately when they know this event is coming. Serious lack of foresight on the part of management. read more

Too pricey for very limited food choices. Paid a total of $320 for 4 for Easter brunch which included 18% service charge. I thought the forced to pay tip was too much since it was a buffet; we pretty much served ourselves. Great ambiance, though. read more

For $52 each for the Christmas Buffet plus auto+auto gratuity at a Marriott I guess I expected too much. The Marina has no ambiance. Zero. The whole place seems like a horrible after thought. We had a reservation at 5:30 and were quickly seated. Our server was either over-worked or inattentive, as it took her 5 minutes to acknowledge us. She seemed confused why were sitting when we were there for the buffet, but we wanted to have a celebratory drink before we ate. She must have been an on-call banquet server who was a last resort on a busy holiday. She was at all engaging and hardly could force a smile. The food was okay. The very nice sized jumbo shrimp cocktail ( one per glass) were completely bland, even with their cocktail sauce. It would be nice if the carving station folks asked if what you wanted instead of just putting meat on your plate. I do not like well done prime rib. (Nor should anyone!) The highlight was the meat and cheese area and the salads. Very tasty choices. The sides were mediocre at best, with the scallop potatoes being the only star. And nothing remotely healthy in the desert section. It took forever to get another round of drinks, and even longer to get the check! Don't you want to turn your tables? read more
