Vegetable Pizza

3.5 First meal in Italy!! Found this place on Yelp and we mostly just went because it was near us and had decent reviews. We were famished and this satisfied us in all the ways. The risotto was very good and definitely what I would recommend. The pizza was okay, lacking a bit of flavor imo. We also tried the buratta and the side of vegetables. Buratta was very creamy, vegetables were a bit limp. The prices are extremely reasonable and they have a really nice outside seating are! Service left something to be desired, however I'd recommend for an easy and very reasonably priced Milano meal!

Caprese insalata with Buffalo mozzarella

Landed in Milan and found this gem on Yelp. We were welcomed to their outdoor patio. It was a cool night but their heaters kept us warm. We started with their burrata, it was so creamy and milky. Our next course was spaghetti pormodoro and my husband had the Diavla pizza. Such a delicious pepperoni pizza, had a kick to it! We ended the night with two cappuccinos . It was so good, we went back the next night. Our host was great inside and outside. The second night we ordered the Caprese with buffalo mozzarella, so enjoyable. Then I had the seafood pasta and Spaghetti Carbonara. Quite enjoyable as well. Did I mention the pricing is amazing. No rip offs here‼

You know a local place is good when it is PACKED with locals for lunch. Overall the food, location and experience were very good. Pizza's were delicious but the real winner here, the absolute mind-blowing showstopper was this Lemon dessert. We were very, very full and couldn't eat another bite and our server asked if we wanted dessert. You could just tell by the way she was describing it that it was a must-have. So we had it, and it was one of the best desserts we had, in a country where there are a million delicious desserts!

Pro Tip: Make reservations through www.thefork.it -- you'll thank me later! This was our last dinner while we were visiting Milan and it was definitely our favorite. Being the American tourists we were, we ordered 3 entrees plus a salad with funny glances from surrounding tables since it was a lot of food for the two of us. The extensive menu is entirely in Italian but we were able to decipher it for the most part. You can choose from pasta, pizzas, meat and fish dishes as well as appetizers, salads and desserts. We ordered the diavola (picante salami and mozzarella cheese) pizza, risotto, tagliatelle bolognese and mixed greens salad. I don't say this very often, but absolutely everything was delicious and well prepared with the freshest ingredients. I enjoyed every dish but my favorite was the tagliatelle bolognese since the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the sauce was savory. A plus was that it was fairly budget friendly for our vacation as we spent about 38 euros for our entire meal compared to other places where we spent 50 euros+ per meal. Highly recommend!

The best pizza in Milan. Their tiramisu is out of the world as well. We had a few pizza and all of them were really good.

During a stay in Milan, my friend and I went out looking for a real Italian dining experience. We decided to go for a walk without a place in mind and ended up coming across this restaurant. Their service was okay but their food was fantastic. We found that language was a bit of an issue here but that tended to be a case in general through places we tried in Milan. They did have an English menu that did a decent job of explaining the dishes. They had a fairly extensive menu which was nice. The interior was very cozy and I loved the decor which made the dining experience even better. I tried the pizza with spinach and arugula as well as spaghetti with mussles. Both were great. I realized after this meal that I'm not a huge fan of Arugula but the pizza nevertheless was fantastic without it. The spaghetti was flavorful but not drowning in sauce which made it a pleasure to eat.

House red wine that tastes sour

If you want to skip the crowd, come at 7 or earlier. 3 friends and I came here on a Saturday night for our last dinner in Italy. We were seated immediately but about 15 minutes later, the place started getting packed. To start, they give you tiny, fluffy, warm pillows of pita (?), along with olives, all drizzled in olive oil. To drink, I had the house red wine. In my past experiences from ordering the house wine at restaurants throughout Italy (and when I say past experiences, I really mean past week), they were pretty good. But I wash't a fan of Maruzzella's. It tasted sour. So try to avoid their house wine - or stick with a beer. For my entree, I went with the chicken Milanese. It was good, but nothing spectacular. It didn't taste like anything I couldn't get in NYC. Or maybe I just had really high hopes for eating chicken Milanese IN Milan. I also might have mooched a slice of the pizza margherita off of my friend's plate. It was pretty good! (and for 5 Euros, it was practically a steal) Looking back, if I were to choose between the pizza and the chicken, I would choose the pizza in a heartbeat. To top it all off, we shared the panna cotta. It was my first time trying panna cotta so I wasn't really sure what to expect. And since I have nothing else to base it on, I can say that I liked it. I was kind of disappointed by the chicken and the wine but everything else was great. Might be the perfect place for a pizza and a beer!

Gnocchi and clams/pasta

Took a friend here for her birthday the other day and we both fell in love (not with each other, but with Maruzzella). We started with a margherita pizza. The crust was absolutely perfect and, inside of that crust, was a luscious, delicious pizza. So great. Then we ordered primi - gnocchi with tomato and mozzarella and the pasta with clams. Both absolutely terrific. The gnocchi was heavenly. Lastly, I got a chicken milanese. The chicken was lean and tasty. Love, love, love this spot. Get there earlier. By 8pm (they opened at 7), the wait was out the door. Recently went back with family who loved their seafood. The bruschetta is great. Tasty house wine.

Spaghetti alla puttanesca

#419-2016: I have been debating for a while wether I should assign 3 or 4 stars to this place. In the end I opted for 3 and this is why. First off, the décor... your typical touristy trattoria (completed with black and white pictures of old italian movies up on the walls. We are talking about Totó and Umberto Sordi), somber dark wooden décor, dark wooden chairs and tables and ... you get the mental picture. The pizzas that were ordered looked fine (with the exception of one that was slightly burnt on the edges) but we are talking about Margherita and bufalina pizza... not that difficult to make... I personally ordered a plate of spaghetti alla puttanesca that was a little too al dente (I LOVE al dente) .... it wasn't huge of a portion but perfect for me. The gnocchi with mozzarella and tomato sauce were on the smaller side with a lot more mozzarella than we expected, but overall good. So, why the 3 stars? Because it truly looks like a tourist trap from the outside and once inside I couldn't shake the feeling I was right. Decent food, almost decent prices (EXCEPT if you want any fish dish.... then I think the prices are slightly expensive).

olive and anchovy pizza

Like many things in life, endings are not always grandiose, sometimes they are an unheard whimper. Of course our first choice for Milan was closed that day, we settled on the highest rated spot on yelp. Meh. When we arrived there was no line and no wait at 6pm. Once seated we ordered our modest and last full meal in Europe. Anchovy and olive pizza - partially my fault for ordering two super salty toppings, but it was a predefined menu item so I trusted them. It ended up being almost inedible. Beyond the salt though, the crust was not up to par with prior Italian pizzas; http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/CKvAxkeyRyrVh-KaXviiZw?select=J5pwkyYiEAu2abV7EFqnsA#J5pwkyYiEAu2abV7EFqnsA Pesto pasta - here the noodles were okay-ish, but the pesto missed on all fronts. Weak and powerless would best describe it; http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/CKvAxkeyRyrVh-KaXviiZw?select=qshHKguX-xQa_dNWxcIADg#qshHKguX-xQa_dNWxcIADg Seafood pasta - the wife's pasta didn't fare much better and was very bland and under-seasoned. The seafood was pretty lackluster as well; http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/CKvAxkeyRyrVh-KaXviiZw?select=mTaVZg7YhH0aAcxJyL9KXw#mTaVZg7YhH0aAcxJyL9KXw Tiramisu - sadly my last tiramisu (of over a dozen I tried over the two weeks in Europe) was one of the not so good ones. It was just bland; not very sweet and not very much of anything. It was a letdown; http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/CKvAxkeyRyrVh-KaXviiZw?select=fbG28Ib13ptly3vQ7jBlaQ#fbG28Ib13ptly3vQ7jBlaQ Overall, meh meh meh. Maybe it's just Milan, a city not known for great food, or maybe it was just this place. Either way, skip it and keep on keeping on.

Huge caprese was really good!

The price is excellent too - we had much more expensive meals in Milan that weren't anywhere near as good.

I literally wrote 4 paragraphs and Yelp glitched and deleted my draft…read more Please make sure to ask them to charge you in Euros because we didn't get the option by the owner and he charged us in USD which costs us more. He's been in business for 44 years so obviously he knows but still charged us in USD which is kinda shady IMO. We decided to dine here due to all the reviews and photos posted. When we approached the restaurant, the owner immediately said "Ni Hao" which I thought was kinda racist. What if I wasn't Chinese? Mink felt offended but we committed to dining there so we did. He asked if we wanted to dine inside or outside. Since it was chilly for Mink, we opted to dine inside where it was 90% full due to a Chinese tour group. They all had the same dish so we figured preset menu for them. I wasn't sure what I was going to get but since they all ate the Ossobuco con risotto alla Milanese in Crosta, I decided to order that as it was one of the dishes I was considering. Mink ordered their Spaghetti ai frutti di mare. I'm not sure why but the owner exclusively took care of us. He also made it a point to bring a photo over of Jay Chow saying he's dined there 4-5 times in the last few years. Maybe that's why the Chinese tour group eats there? He was arrogant enough to brag about how much money he's made because of Jay Chow. There were lots of celebrities that dined there from what gathered looking at his wall of fame. I bet he didn't charge any of them in USD *smh* The Ossobuco con risotto alla Milanese in Crosta was really good and probably the best we had in Milan. They must be able to make this dish with their eyes closed at this point with the daily Chinese tour groups dining there. Their Spaghetti ai frutti di mare was decent but didn't have as much seafood in the dish as other restaurants and the flavor was about average. The bread and EVOO offered was legit though! I loved it and I normally hardly ever eat the complimentary bread. Food is good overall and customer service felt extra. If we didn't get charged USD, wasn't getting bragged to about how much money he made off Jay Chow and wasn't greeted with a "Ni Hao" then the place is 4 stars. Since all that did happened, 2.5 stars.
