Excellent food, friendly staff and fast service! We were traveling from OBX and heard that Wilson's NC BBQ was the BEST, so we searched for a BBQ restaurant. Marty's did not disappoint! We will definitely return if our travels bring us back to Wilson! read more

They have very good chicken. Did lunch a few times and it was as expected. Excellent tea (unsweet), and the staff is the best

Food is great. Customer service sucks. Will never go back. I was waiting for my food when I asked the young guy behind the counter about the catfish. He mentioned that it was something that OLD people order basically telling me that I was old and he confirmed that feeling when I questioned him about it. A few moments later I watched him roll his eyes at an elderly gentleman who had planned to order his meal with a side of cabbage which they were out of and the customer needed to contact his wife to see what she wanted. After rolling his eyes impatiently, he turned the register over to another worker behind the counter and he walked away. read more

My husband and I were in Wilson yesterday for Homecoming at ACC (ok Barton College). When we were in school 40 (ugh) years ago, we ate at Bills or Parkers. We have heard about Marty's from friends who live in Wilson and wanted to give it a try. The food was very good. I like more of a pulled pork style ,not so chopped to death. The bbq was great and well seasoned. The slaw was good also. Some people make it too sweet. We enjoyed the food, but this review is more for a wonderful employee named Courtney. She was so welcoming and so gracious making sure everyone in the dining room had everything they needed. She is a great asset to Marty's. Actually, the counter ladies that were taking orders were very welcoming and genuinely pleasant. We applaud the staff and the food and will return! read more

The restaurant drive through has periods of extremely busy to low attendance. You can go inside and order to eat in the small dining section. An employee may walk around while your dining in to ensure you don't need a refill. I had the chance to taste an assortment of food with several others. This is not my choice for an authentic experience of how barbecue should taste. Collard Greens - Very Finely chopped to the point it almost looked close to pureed and lost the look of actual collard greens. Did not taste like collards. Banana Pudding- Pretty sweet and nicely made. Potato Salad - Taste okay but seems like it's missing something. BBQ Sandwich - The sandwich was a little dry. We asked for a sauce for the sandwich but it was pretty wet/loose. If your looking for bbq sauce you have to be specific but the sauce they give you with sandwich will make the bread wet. Fries - They were okay but it looks like the grease may need to be changed. read more

Great food for a GREAT price. For some the atmosphere may be lacking but don't let that keep you from trying this place out. Service was excellent as well. read more

Amazing barbecue and fries! Their service is unbeatable! The vibe is cool and collected.

2.5 stars. Best to worst: Chicken was very good, but not the best I've ever had. Sadly, I'd say it's on par with Popeye's, which I can get anytime I want. Marty's may be slightly juicier, but not so much that I'd go out of my way to get it again. Potato salad was good. Flavorful and creamy. I suspect this is not homemade, likely bought from a food supply distributor and doctored up on-site. The Brunswick stew was okay. Even though it tasted like it was from a can, the added corn kernels gave it a fresher feel. Pulled pork tasted like tuna fish--metallic and too minced up. I've had better hush puppies at Long John Silver's. No way they're making them themselves. The corn sticks were almost inedible, as they were cold and a little stale-tasting. The green beans were horrible. I'd be very surprised if they weren't dumped out of a can. Same with the collards. We wanted to add an order of banana pudding after we had already ordered and made it to the drive-through window, and we were told we couldn't add to the order. Won't be back. read more

My husband loves Marty's food! He says it's the best fried chicken! It's worth the wait in line!!

Good southern fried chicken and barbecue. Chicken is crispy on the outside not overly seasoned, not too salty, and juicy on the inside. They also have bbq chicken that is good but breast was a little dry. They have chicken gizzards and livers which are hard to find and are very tasty. BBQ is carolina style with a mild smoke taste. Sides are ok,the potato salad has a weird texture like it has cool whip in it or something, not a fan. I like the coleslaw that comes with every meal and then you get two extra sides. Seafood: oysters were a little too briny for me. I didn't care for them. The yams, boiled potatoes, french fries and green beans are good. Prices are great and you get a lot of food, service is quick and good even when cars are wrapped around the building and out in the road, which happens everyday. Yes, it's that good. I drive from Raleigh at least one Sat a month for my chicken and bbq fix. read more

This was a drive thru. You drove up and someone walks up to your vehicle wearing a mask to take your order before you get to the window. You pay at the window. If your order is not ready by the time you get to the window, you are asked to park and someone brings it to you when it's ready. Lots of cars but it moved pretty quickly. Just be patient. Food was good. read more

Marty's BBQ - Barbeque Near Me - Wilson, North Carolina

The barbeque whether its turkey or pork and its always hot and fresh. The plate is worth the money and priced right.

My girl asked me to take a 2hr adventure with her just to get some bbq from here. I agreed to it because were always traveling together for simple things. I have no regrets going on this journey. Once we arrived, I knew it was gonna be worth the hike because the building was very plain. For some reasons the most questionable places have some of the most bomb food. The workers here were super friendly and informative. We learned that the son of the owner of Bill's, owns this spot. The bbq was soooo good, as was the hushpuppies. Everything on the menu was priced reasonably for the portions listed. The traffic in here was pretty steady, since we beat lunch crowd, but I can see it getting pack quickly. If I lived closer, I would definitely be back to check out the rest of the menu. read more

I love everything that they make! Super nice staff , great for a single meal or a large crowd. Fabulous for a family gathering when you order ahead. The banana pudding is to die for ! read more

I am a native North Carolina girl who lives in Texas. I long for the pork BBQ of my youth whenever my friends make their beef "BBQ". Oh. My. Goodness. This place was outstanding. This is the BBQ I remember as a child growing up in North Carolina. Real eastern style NC BBQ. The BBQ sandwich was not greasy, but had wonderful flavor. The slaw added just enough crunch. I had a side of Brunswick Stew and the Yams. Both items were just amazing. When I return to Wilson this place is on the list to visit! If you haven't tried this place...GO!! read more

Marty's BBQ - Barbeque Near Me - Wilson, North Carolina

Wow! Our loooong drive-thru wait was rewarded with classic, eastern-NC bbq that wasn't greasy, dry, nor over-sauced. Delicious, moist, & lean. Coleslaw was fresh. Brunswick stew was hearty. Fried chicken was completely perfect. Juicy white meat with just enough crispy coating. I'll be back soon! On Sundays, do yourself a favor and call-in your order, find any open spot on the street to park your ride and run inside. read more

It was a long drive from Ohio to Winston, NC. So after 11 hours of driving only stopping for refueling and keeping hydrated I was hungry. I asked the hostess what was the best bbq in town. She told me Marty's that this is the best place to go, but the line would be long. But it's worth the wait. I pulled up and the line was around the building and down the street. They have adopted the Chik-fil-A method of order taking. Two ladies in the parking lot running orders back to the kitchen. You roll up to the window give your name and pay your bill. Depending on what you order you get your food or put in time out. If in time out they will bring your food out. I ordered the pork chop dinner with Mac and cheese and greens. Got there late no more peach cobbler. Get back to the hotel. I unloaded luggage and food. I sat down and enjoyed my meal. I took a bite of my pork chop and quickly scanned the room for my mom becAuse I'm being punked. A lot of places claim home style cooking they own the title next to my mom. I am usually disappointed when ordering greens but these were awesome. The Mac and cheese is good enough that I would allow it on the table for Thanksgiving. The ride from Ohio to Winston is long and beautiful so a journey down on the motorcycle this summer to grab a piece of cobbler. Think I won't. Wait for the pics. read more

Don't want to wait in a traffic jam to eat BBQ. Especially with other BBQ options. Or support a place that canceled a catering promise that was to support local youths. Not all that great anyway. read more

I am more of a Lexington style kind of guy, but despite the fact it was Eastern style, it was actually real BBQ (in a world of mostly modern fancy restaurant versions). And it was good. It doesn't look like a real joint (it's a modern building with no NASCAR pictures and no pig statues) but don' be scared. It even has drive thru, though that is really a mark against it. read more

Great Hot well seasoned food! With Wonderful friendly service. Very clean business, with home town Bbq restaurant feel.

Right on time.... every time! They gave me BBQ chicken instead of fried one time, but fixed it asap! Thanks. I love their slaw too and chunky BBQ! Yummy!!! read more

Overly hyped, I ordered the bbq sandwich which was the size of a small fist. (Pictures are deceiving) Figured you'd get something bigger but no. I also ordered a wing bag which was surprisingly good, better than the sandwich. Would say this is a one time visit for me. read more

I don't have a good comparison sample for North Carolina style BBQ except my limited availability North. I relied on Yelp to help us find a well reviewed and open BBQ joint. I will say that the other options were already closed. I definitely think it was worth the ride from 95. It was super delicious and just great portion for the price. The green beans were good, and I loved the potato salad. Coleslaw was good- we also had the banana pudding and sweet tea. read more

They have great chicken and food ..but they have HORRIBLE service. Horrible service. The only good employee is the nice little older lady, she is a doll, so sweet and kind. I have been several times, and each time I have had bad service. From not giving me everything I ordered, to not giving me sauces(after I ask more than once) for giving me hardly any hush puppies, and then the interactions with the employees...they act like anything you ask for is asking too much all I asked for was some napkins and some hot sauce? Is that too much. It's just beyond me. You have a job and a duty, just do it. I am not rude or anything like that, but the only kind person there and that has great customer service is the little older lady. From drive thru to cashiers inside...its just bad. Honestly just sad. And God forbid you try to add banana pudding at the window...because they wont let you. read more

Best BBQ in town! I wish the parking lot was bigger so me & my family can eat there more often

The chef needs oversee the salt shaker in the kitchen. I was so looking forward to eating a five star chicken pastry but it tasted like the cap came off the salt shaker in the kitchen. All the other food in our party of eight was great last night. But a friend of mine that eats there more frequently and she noted that dishes being too salty was beginning to be a common occurence. Hopefully this will get resolved. read more

Great fried chicken! I love all of the food, including the pasta salad, green beans and potatoes.

First of all, go inside. The drive thru line is crazy long. The employees were super polite and helpful. The bbq was finely minced and flavorful. The collards were minced as well and delicious but not smoky. The Mac and cheese was perfect. The slaw was sweet and minced finely. The hush puppies were tender and sweet. The banana pudding was outstanding. We were driving through on I95 and took a detour to it. It was well worth it! read more
