I have a home warranty company, and they dispatched Martin's to my house. I actually remembered after the fact that I'd had a bad experience with them a few years ago involving a heavy upsell attempt, and I had made a note not to use them again. The owner showed up to look at my downstairs unit, and the interaction reminded me exactly why. His demeanor was dismissive from the start. Every small issue was presented as a major problem, and he repeatedly hinted that my warranty company probably wouldn't cover the repair and that I might have to pay out of pocket. He then started complaining about the thermostat wires being "too short," treating it like a major obstacle. I suggested simply splicing and extending the five wires -- a basic, common‑sense solution. He told me that doing so was "illegal," which made no sense at all. When I questioned that claim, he abruptly ended the visit, put the panel back on my unit, walked out without a word, got in his truck, and drove away. I immediately called my warranty company's escalation department, reported the behavior, and had the work order reassigned. From past experience, I recall the son being professional and straightforward. But the owner's conduct has been consistently problematic. Based on our experience and the volume of similar reviews here and on Yelp, it's very clear that Martin's Heating & AC has an issue with home warranty calls. This company was dispatched through our home warranty (Cinch) for an HVAC issue during a heating emergency. The technician arrived (I assume Martin?), took a very brief look, and immediately declined to perform any service. There was no real assessment, no troubleshooting, and no attempt to help resolve the issue -- just a refusal to do the work and a quick exit. Like, all within 3 minutes. What was most frustrating is how closely this mirrors other one-star reviews: once it was clear this was a home warranty claim, the technician's demeanor made it obvious he had no intention of actually performing the service. It feels like this company participates in home warranty programs simply to collect the service fee, not to provide legitimate repairs or evaluations. When our home warranty company called him after he left to see if he would come back out and complete the job, he asked them for a 2nd fee?! This was by far the worst home warranty experience we've had. I'm giving one star because I HAVE to. Martins Heating and AC has all these terrible reviews because they deserve them. My experience: I had to call 4 times to even speak with someone. They do not have voice mail. The phone just rings and then you get disconnected. Anyway- after finally getting through to someone, he told me that he could come in 2 days. Great. He said it would be after noon. My husband was home all day and no one ever showed. I texted the number Martins gave me multiple times- no response. I called again- no response. I asked him via text, to just let me know if he didn't want to look at my Air Conditioner so I could schedule with someone else and not waste time taking off work. I just have my HVAC system serviced by Martins Heating and Air Conditioning, Henrico, Va. company toay (2/26/2025) I feel they deserve a fair rating, after looking at all these negative reviews. The problem is not the contractor who provides the services. The real problem is the Warranty Company, in my case - Select Home Warranty. My heat pump system had the complete freezing problem in and out, top and the bottom of the compressor (outdoor unit). I filed the claim and Martin showed up the 2nd day. This was week of 2/17/2025 and we had about 4 or 5 days of terrible cold (temperature around 20's). He identified my unit's problem is the control board and the defrost sensore unit is bad. Which is pretty much inline with what i read, and understand the situation. He filed the report but Select Home never followed up with my unfinished claim by either contacting me or Martins Heating & Cooling. After draggin for a few days and a number of phone calls to Select Home W., below is the quote of the email they sent me - completely unture and avoid to pay for the parts: "After a Review of the diagnosis concerning the specific issue with your HVAC system, your unit shorted to ground. It has been determined that your Policy Does Not Cover this issue, the HVAC system has a electrical failure and unfortunately electrical failures are not covered by your policy. Please see section 9.1.2 of the policy agreement." Well I paid for the repair and parts replacement myself - not cheap, but Martins did a very good work. Lesson learned! So after reading some reviews, it's very clear this guy has an agenda when it comes to home warranty calls. The moment he realized it was a warranty call, his whole demeanor changed and he could've cared less about helping us out. Our furnace needs to be replaced and he even stated that was his assessment. However he never submitted that to the warranty company and now we're are back to square one. When I asked him to submit his report he kept giving me the run around and trying to place the blame on the warranty company when it was his report that was holding up the process and that's what they were waiting for. The guy tries to play the sympathy card but he's just a lazy POS who clearly doesn't know the meaning of customer service. If your warranty tells you this guy is coming then my advice is to immediately request someone else. Martin is nothing but a crook! read more

Refused to work on my HVAC because my wife, in order to explain how everything came about, told him a licensed electrician came to our house concerning the thermostat, which he is absolutely qualified to work on, found the problem was not in the thermostat, but the HVAV unit. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! Rude and unprofessional. Our HVAC went out 4 days ago. An electrical tech reset thermostat wires to auxiliary mode so we could have heat. Martins refused to even look at the HVAC because of the emergency set up and left. what were we supposed to do it's been below freezing here. when we tried to call Tech back he hung up on us. read more

I left a phone message as well as an email which he refused to answer. I guess this is typical of a 1 star rating and I probably wouldn't want him touching my AC unit anyway!!! Do not even call! Everything stated in all reviews is accurate! Non-responsive and unprofessional. Don't waste your time... especially if you have a home warranty. That's how I found him. Home warranty sent them to check our AC unit. Saw the breaker was flipped and didn't bother to really check if anything else was wrong. Just left after saying if the breaker flips again there's probably an issue. Lo and behold, there was another issue. Avoid at all costs. This company was a referral from my home warranty to fix the HVAC cooling system in our home. On the day of the appointment I called to verify a time and was told by Martin in 2 hours. My unit is in my attic so I wanted to be present when he arrives. He shows up within 30 mins after our phone call, not 2 hours later. I wasn't there but my wife was. He shows up with an attitude, asks where the unit is, looks at the attic and refused to go up there to see the unit, says "Yeah, I'm not doing that" and leaves. Martin is incredibly rude and unprofessional. I called afterwards but he refused to answer my calls. I had to call from another number to get him to answer. I decided to cancel the contract out of frustration. The next company that came out was fantastic. The new tech asked about the situation. When I explained, HE KNEW WHO I WAS REFERRING TO BEFORE I TOLD HIM. Martin has a reputation for being a rude, unprofessional and a slacker. Every 1 star review here is telling of this man's behavior. Came to my home because home warranty sent him. He talks a good game, told me I had many things wrong but he wouldn't fix them through the home warranty because it was not worth his time. Also told me he could be my guy and I could depend on him to do right by me. Should have been my first clue! Did some work for me, was paid and then I discovered a bogus charge. When I asked about it he was rude, condescending, but offered to give me my money back, and told me we were finished. Still waiting for my money. So now he can add liar to his list of credentials. Googled heating and air because my heat was out. Found martins. Called to leave a message but someone actually answered after hours. Told me he could fit me in first thing in the morning. I was happy being I have a small child. The owner himself came out and checked out my system. He got my furnace working and made suggestions on how to extend the life of my furnace. The Grinch (Martin's Heating) that stole our heat this Thanksgiving! November 23rd 2022 this company was contracted through a third party insurance claim to come into my home to repair my heating system. The two times I spoke to the gentleman Martin on the phone about our upcoming appointment he was very rash had an attitude kind of treated me like a child not a customer. I tried to overlook this as it was the day before Thanksgiving and we had not had heat in our home for about 5 days. They come to my home I explained to them the issue as they asked me to. After about 20 minutes they just walked out of my home tell me they have to order parts and be patient. I walk out to my porch as they are getting into there van to get a clear response or schedule as to when they would return. He just nastily responded just be patient in front of my children like I was his child. I then text him and express not appreciating his un professionalism. He then responds he comes to my home to provide a service not to make friends. For me to just be patient he will not speak to anymore just to the owner of the property. Mind you I was the one that set up the visit as directed to me by the property owner since I was going to be on site and it is my rental home at the moment. At no time should you as a customer be subjected to be disrespected in your own home by someone that has been contracted to provide a service for you. As I see from other reviews and also my personal experience it seems as this company just accepts these contracts knowing they will get paid by the insurance company for the crappy nasty and disrespectful service they provide and these companies continue to do business with them. In principle I then spoke to the owner told him to cancel the contract as I will stay without heat through the Thanksgiving holiday instead of letting him back into my home. The owner agreed told me to call file a complaint and cancel the contract which I did and then the owner filed a complaint also. So if you're home insurance company is attempting to refer Martin's heating and air conditioning to you to come do a repair at your home be warned. Do not contract this company there are other companies that your insurance can refer you to that will treat you respect in your home as you deserve. Today another company came in to service my unit and they provided top notch professional and respectful service. I did not ask them to be my friend I just asked them to treat me like a fellow human being with respect which they did and I applaud them. I had this company out to my house to diagnose a problem with my air handler. The company was actually hired by my home warranty company to come fix the problem. First things first, the guy who came to my house was just not friendly. Second, in diagnosing my problem, he didn't step within 4 feet of the air handler in order to actually see what the problem was. Since this guy came out, I've had two other reputable companies out to look at my unit. They had to actually take panels off of the air handler in order to find the problem. Both companies provided the same diagnosis of rusted coils. They guy from this company documented the problem as a drainage problem. I'm sure he did this because he knew that the home warranty company wouldn't cover that diagnosis and he would still get paid for showing up. That's called taking advantage of your customer in a very big way. When I called to explain what happened, I got nothing but a rude response from the owner. RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL! Called to set up and appointment and was told to "BE PATIENT! WAIT YOUR TURN!" Only had him come out because he's one of 3 contractors with my warranty. He never showed for my appointment. Called him and he said he forgot. Came out the next day, didn't look at air handler and said that warranty wouldn't cover it. I formed him it did cover:replacement or fill. He said he'd submit it to warranty company. He didn't. Called him to ask why warranty company hadn't heard or received anything. He said that I was "calling to much." Asked again if he submitted the forms, never answered the question. Worst company ever! read more
