Casual place with counter service - order and pay, seat yourself, and get a number and food brought out pretty quickly in about 10-15 mins. Substantial portions although the brisket burger and catfish sandwiches are not so big with price to match. The brisket burger in appearance looks just like a hamburger as the meat is minced. The catfish is deep fried in a nice crispy batter. Order the platters if you want a heavier meal. Nice atmosphere, lots of family groups, dining room seating as well as an outdoor area. Good place for groups where you want the convenience of paying separately without having to split bills.u

A random stop before heading back to Florida; now that this is home will be sure to frequent frequently! I know it's a BBQ joint, but can we talk about the fried chicken sandwich??

This place checks all the boxes for fantastic BBQ! The brisket is so tender and tasty, the BBQ sauce is tangy with just a hint of heat and NO mustard in it, no styrofoam plates, no plastic utensils, AND they have pecan pie!!! Way to go, Martins!

Stopped here with my friend for dinner! The pulled pork sandwich was tender and flavorful, sauce was great and the sides were just as good. Get the mac and cheese. We also got the pulled pork nachos, top notch as well the slaw they put on it has a bit of sweetness and goes really well with the rest of the plate! Excellent customer service. The decor has a great selection of vintage collectibles!

Super fast and friendly service! I only had an hour to have lunch during a training and found Martin's was nearby! Got my food super fast and it was delicious! I got the pork shoulder platter. For sides I got the hushpuppies and baked beans. Their house bbq sauce was a little too spicy for me but the meat didn't really need much. You could taste the smoke and full flavor of the pork shoulder! It is very casual and clean. They also have a very nice outdoor space if you like fresh air!

Always stop here at least once when we are in town. The brisket best in Charleston in my opinion and all the other options are great too from smoked wings to pulled pork. Hand cut fries are amazing as is the broccoli salad. It's always consistently good food and friendly staff. Great spot to catch a game or have a casual dinner with family.

Big fan of this place on James Island - great outdoor bar setup with tvs Order at the counter & find a seat... went with the most cost effective option pulled chicken & Mac - cost me around $13 bucks Great Smokey flavor to the chicken & the Mac was seasoned nicely. I'll be back next time I'm on the island!!

Juicy, cheesy, burger and the baked beans are packed full of flavor. The outside seating and bar make a great experience while dining here. Check it out if you've never been.

The restaurant seems quite popular as evidenced by the line at the relatively off hours of Friday at 2:00PM. Fortunately, the queue moved expediently and we were ordering in less than 10 minutes. The service model is standard in that you wait on line, order your meats, and seat yourself. The dining room and outdoor patio at Lewis are very large and provide ample seating. The ambience is clean but still hews classic with wood accents and butcher paper serving as your plate. We ended up sitting at the bar as we wanted to enjoy one of the many well curated local beers Lewis offers on tap. Bonus points for having bar height high chairs for our little one. We opted to sample four meats and three sides. This amount of food proved perfect for the two of us and our hungry 14 month old. All of the meats carried a discernible smoky taste and aroma with meltingly tender textures and ample seasoning. We enjoyed the meaty pork ribs and tender brisket the most, but everything we sampled had merit. The meats do not need sauce, strictly speaking, though you'd be remiss to pass on Lewis' Tex-Mex infused tasty condiments, which complement all of the meats rather well. The sides also were excellent. The justifiably famous sweet and slightly spicy corn pudding acted as the star, with generous helpings of tangy collards and not excessively creamy potato salad rounding out our meal. Our total for food was less that $60, a very decent value for the quality and quantity. While ultimately a counter service joint, the service here was friendly enough both at the checkout and bar to warrant mention. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be doing what they were doing and treated us kindly. Overall, for tasty fare, good value, and warm service, this is an easy 5 star rating for barbecue in Charleston.

The Pork ribs were delicious as well but I wish it was more tender. Pulled pork was nicely seasoned but not my personal preference of meats however it was my first time so I had to get a little taste of everything. I will definitely be back to try their brisket sandwich! The sides: Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, and Cornbread that all come with the combo. The texture was fine, but the flavor of the sauce was too sweet for me. It did come with a unique square of cornbread, which was really moist and good. - I ordered the wings because they needed the dressing. They came along with it to make the flavor profile. I wasn't a fan of them without the dressing. They were also a little dry. I would give them a 3 out of 5. - The appetizer, the cornbread itself, had a nice butter topping for it. The cornbread seemed to have corn bits in it, which were chewy, but the cornbread was also dry, so I'd have to give it a 2 out of 5. - The empanadas themselves were cooked a little long, but the filling was really good. The flavors of the corn and everything together made it a 5 out of 5. They were a little pricey for two empanadas, but it was the star of the meal. I would definitely say the empanadas are a 4 out of 5 only because of the quantity that you get for the price. - The mocktail that they made was super sour. It needed some simple syrup to tone it down, but flavor-wise, it was good. I would have to give the entire experience a 3 out of 5.
