Incredible experience at Home Town BBQ! I was excited to try a new BBQ spot with my fiance while visiting. We were greeted by the smell of smoked meat, which was incredible. We were seated on their covered patio, which had fans and was comfortable on a hot evening. Our server greeted us right away and gave us the run down of the menu and took our drink order. They had a lot of local beer offerings, which was awesome. We both tried local beers and started with the smoked wing appetizer with the dry rub. They were so tasty and the rub had the perfect mix of sweet and spice. Chef's kiss! For our entree, we split a two meat platter, which came with two sides. We got the smoked turkey, pulled pork, Mac and cheese and their hash and rice, a thick meat stew made from pork. Everything was incredible! We also loved trying the different sauces on the table. Home Team BBQ was a tough choice between them and Lewis BBQ. A local mentioned that the same pitmaster is behind both spots and that Home Team is the more budget-friendly option. The baked beans were the standout for me--full of flavor and easily my favorite item on the menu. The collard greens, however, were a bit too spicy and vinegary for my taste, and the mac and cheese didn't quite hit the mark; it was overly heavy with roux and a bit too gooey. We ordered "The Board," which offered a great variety of meats and sides, including wings, turkey, brisket, pulled pork, pork rinds, and ribs, all accompanied by pickled red onions and Alabama sauce. Solid lunch at Home Team BBQ. Sat outside which is always the move here, good casual vibe and quick service. Got a loaded salad with pulled pork on top and it honestly hit. Greens were fresh, nice mix of toppings like corn and tomatoes, and the pork was smoky without being too heavy. The toast underneath soaked up some of the juices which worked really well. Also grabbed a cup of their Brunswick stew which was super comforting, thick, and packed with flavor. Washed it down with a beer and everything came out fast. Amazing bbq spot that's dog friendly. Since we had enough ppl in our party, we decided to get The Board which says it feeds 4-6. Added the optional brisket to it, got the Mac and cheese, cucumber tomato salad and tots, and had the baked queso to start. Everything was terrific! The queso could use a little more chorizo but it was still very good - we devoured it. There wasn't anything bad on the board, even the wings were delicious and I'm not usually a wings fan. They have a really nice and spacious outdoor area with large picnic tables which was perfect for kids and four legged friends. Services was good. Ambiance is a typical BBQ establishment, I was not impressed with smoke chicken and ziti dish. It was dry and taste was bland. Shredded chicken was hidden within the dish, which I had to ask the waitress "where is the chicken". I was told it was a queso base and it was a tomato base sauce. Food is outstanding. The white sauce is good on ANYTHING. We got some smoked wings and some tots but saw plate after plate of delicious looking dishes going out all around us. I usually will grab dinner here regularly when on business in Charleston. It's in a super convenient location off the bridge, and though a popular spot, it's easy to get a seat, and if they are full-up, the wait isn't too bad, but totally worth it! Hands down the best smoked wings I have ever had, specifically the dry rub! Not sure their secret, but it's remarkable! I also am a coleslaw connoisseur, and they have some of the most simple, yet tasty, coleslaw around! The staff is very friendly and fast, it has a good local vibe to it, and seems popular amongst the Charleston community! Parking can sometimes be a little difficult, but there is an overflow lot a block away which is free and available. Settling-up your bill is easy too, as you just swipe your card at your table with the server. Great restaurant! read more

I've had a variety of their offerings, mostly things on their shared platters: - The buffalo chicken dip isn't bad, but not something I find myself really reaching for - The mac and cheese is actually so good! Very creamy, cheesy, savory, and good noodle texture - The coleslaw isn't too bad, on the sweeter side, like a poppyseed salad dressing - The potato salad is good and creamy - The ribs are easy to eat as they come off the bone pretty easily, definitely needs the additional BBQ/hot sauce on the table - I'm not a beans person but my friend loved their baked beans and couldn't get enough of it - I really enjoyed their cheddar jalapeno sausage - bursting with flavor and a kick of spice - The wings are good, especially with the alabama white sauce (like sweeter ranch) - I actually really enjoyed their turkey, especially with the red sauce - The banana pudding wasn't good - tasted like artificial store-bought banana pudding and just had a couple of cookies/banana slices. I've been to Lewis's, but never home team so it was expecting more of a tray and sit down style, but it is full restaurant come to your table seating. The mac & cheese was very waxy and wouldn't recommend. My friend had collard greens and this was my first time ever trying them, but they were so good here! My sandwich did not come with coleslaw, but was only one dollar to add it on. The prices are pretty high, but you get a lot of food for each meal. There is not a ton of parking out front, but there is a parking lot across the street. It's really only for businesses but if you go on a weekend, the parking lot is empty as they are all closed. read more
