This place is a hidden gem. I first saw it on Chicago's Best and wanted to try it. A year or so later I saw it on Groupon and decided to give it a try. Amazing find! We started with tasty calabrese salad. Enough for 2 people. Served with yummy hot bread. The stuffed gnocchi that were very tender and airy. They melt in your mouth. Wife had pasta bolognese and just loved it, generous portion size. Not much of a red sauce guy but I enjoyed finishing her meaty pasta bolognese. Very tasty. Waitress was really nice. She recommended cheesecake and it was delicious. More of an old fashion cheese cake with sourcream topping. All employees were helpful friendly and very kind to us as we both have mobility issues. Young man stopped by to ask how our meal was and said it was his families resturant (think he was grandson) He was so friendly and stopped to talk for a bit. Classic Italian spot that's easy to get into and consistent. Calamari and Shrimp De Jong were amazing: crispy, salty, savory. Server was respectful of a cadence between drinks, appetizers and dinner, we didn't feel rushed at all. Got the chicken farfalle special and it was just OK and a little steep at 28$. My girlfriend and I were excited to try what looks like a neighborhood gem. The ambiance here is outstanding and our wait staff was fine. Our issue was with the food. To be blunt it had no taste. You read that correctly. My minestrone tasted like hot water. My lasagna had virtually no flavor. Even the meatballs left a lot to be desired. My girlfriend hasn't salted anything in over a year and had to salt her butternut squash ravioli because all she could taste, as with me when I tasted it, was the squash. We had a group of 4 that had a reservation to eat outside, but it was cold and windy that day (hello Chicago!). The manager was incredibly helpful and moved the large, outdoor heaters to our table. Then we changed our mind and asked to go inside. He said no problem and was able to accommodate our request. Our server was excellent as well. We ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer, which was good. Everyone had a house salad -- which wasn't fancy -- but plentiful and a good start to the meal. Our entrees included lobster ravioli in a vodka sauce, stuffed gnocchi in arrabbiata sauce and chicken vesuvio. The food was very, very good and portion sizes were large. We were happy to take our leftovers home for lunch the next day. The manager and our server struck a perfect balance of allowing us time to eat/visit while also checking to make sure we had what we needed for a great night out. Cute little neighborhood spot ! Has a very old school feel which I love. Our table got seated early and got the grilled calamari to start - which comes in a light red sauce . We also got bread at the table upon sitting down . Calamari was fantastic ! For dinner we all had espresso martinis which were good and eggplant parm, pasta and Cesar salad+ meatballs . Five of us went to dinner Saturday night and had a pleasant evening. We weren't rushed and our wait service was very good. We met the owner, and he was friendly as usual - according to the other reviews. Didn't hurt that the couple we were with came here often and knew him well. I ordered the lemon chicken with angel hair and requested a side of steamed spinach. That combination turned out to be perfect. I did have to add a LOT of parmesan to the dish for additional flavor, but otherwise it was great. The red wine we ordered paired well with the meal. Good atmosphere and all around happy experience. Others got stuffed gnocchi, chicken Vesuvio and a linguini dish and there were no complaints. I heard from friends that have previously been there that this is a solid Italian old school place - not amazing - but definitely good and solid food, so I agree with their assessment. A friend & I met here recently for dinner. We both try to avoid eating indoors these days, and MA's has a tent room out back to accommodate folks like us. Kudos to the mgmt! I got the chicken parm, which I've not ordered in ages, along with the mosticholi (sp?). The latter I ordered with their spicy sauce, which packs a punch. Had an amazing dinner here with my parents last Sunday. Super quaint and cozy restaurant. Service was a bit slow (quite busy) but server was great and charismatic. The owner John stopped by our table to check up on our experience and I found that quite pleasant. Shows they take pride and care about their establishment. He was very nice. We started with the baked clams as they were out of the oyster Rockefeller's which was our first choice. Baked clams were just ok in my opinion. Had a cup of minestrone soup which was good and tasty. For main dish I had the Black Linguine which I have attached a picture of. I absolutely LOVED IT and scallops were cooked to perfection. The pasta was cooked perfectly as well. This was a great old school Italian place that's a bit off the beaten path. The neighborhood was quiet so I was glad I hopped a cab. Our server was a bit confused by my drink order so I finally walked up to the bartender; it was their drink special and I wanted bourbon instead of rye....which ended up being good since they were out of rye. And I caught the waiter just in time before he put olives in my drink...because it was in a martini glass. That would have been *nasty* The food was really good. I had the house salad and the cheese ravioli with the vodka sauce. My cousin had the caesar and the special pasta of the evening. And then, of course, I had to have spumoni for dessert. We dined here on a fluke...we were headed elsewhere, but that street was closed for some festival. We drove a bit, trying to pick "plan B", when I remembered seeing Mart Anthony on Chicago's Best. We were delighted to see the complimentary valet service. One reason we hadn't gone sooner was fear of unavailable parking. We were greeted and seated immediately on a Saturday night. There's some street side tables available for al fresco dining, but we stayed inside. The place is an old school charmer with a long bar and hardwood floors. Immaculate, lots of pictures on the wall, with a section devoted to Sinatra. The atmosphere is laid back. Nice! The wine list was adequate, we enjoyed a bottle of pinot grigio. Refreshing! Service was casual, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. Spiro and his helpers did a great job! Owner Marty stops table side to greet his guests, which is a nice touch! Caprese salad was good, served on a bed of iceberg lettuce. Chicken Vesuvio was simple and tasty. Ditto for the lemon chicken. Nicely done. Limoncello sorbetto and a couple of decafs capped off the meal. Prices were reasonable, portions generous. Very nice, traditional, Italian restaurant-we plan to return-soon-to try some of their traditional pasta selections. I am looking forward to it! read more

I am not sure what is better, the local charm or the lobster ravioli? Mart Anthony is a destination for us, but there is a heavy local presence as well. No one should hold back on going there, because valet is free. Yup, free. And the dude never gives us a ticket, just asks our name and every time we have gotten the right car back. Nice. The restaurant is not too formal, has a homey cozy feel about it. The owner is usually at the bar or nearby on the weekends. Service is attentive. If you do not know what to order, as the menu is extensive, I would strongly suggest bruschetta to share and lobster ravioli as an entree. read more
