Washington Crown Center - Vacant Bon-Ton

Washington Crown Center

Washington Crown Center is the most lively dead mall that I have ever seen! As of March 2025, this…read moreindoor mall contains only about 27 permanent businesses and many vacant storefronts, but during my visit on a Saturday, this mall was full of people! The permanent businesses include mostly small, local stores and only some national businesses such as Kay Jewelers, Marshalls, and Rural King. Many small vendors had set up tables to sell crafts, foods, and other homemade items. This mall does NOT contain enough stores for me to purchase everything that I need and want, but I still enjoyed walking around this mall, people-watching, and buying some goods. The parking lot had A LOT of pot holes and much trash. With all of the other customers' vehicles, I had to drive around for several minutes to find a spot.

I used to frequent this mall when I was in college, but, without giving away my age, that was years…read moreand years ago. As one other reviewer put it, this is a dying mall. To the point where it's more of a walking track than it is a mall. Years ago this was the place to be in the Washington area. Filled to the brim with stores that were desirable. I think what was a downfall of this place was a combination of a few things that happened in the area. The first was the failed shopping complex in South Strabane. Before its demise, it drew customers away. The next thing that caused decline would be the opening of the Tanger Outlets nearby. That pulled customers from here that had long standing stores that opened up in the outlet mall. Then the one of the worst things that could happen was that anchor stores started to fall. Gander Mountain closed up, followed by Macy's, then out went Bon-Ton and finally Sears just closed up last year. So yeah, this place has suffered many blows as of recent. What counts for an anchor store here now are the likes of Marshalls and Ross Dress For Less. I suppose you can say that the movie theater is an anchor and maybe whatever Rural King is. But as for the stores in between. They have become more and more of the mom and pop variety. It's better than a dead mall. They are trying. The one thing that surprised me was the food court. It actually is thriving. I don't think there was one empty spot there and it was a good variety. The building still looks the same from the last time it was renovated. With the upkeep they have been doing, this building has held up. It's actually kind of nice and feels vibrant. I hope that in the future this place rebounds. Especially with the proximity to the minor league ballpark nearby. There should be more around to do.

i bought an engagment ring from this kays store and was promised a certain date on recieving it…read moreback and was later called before that date and was told that my ring would not be ready in time...my fiance called from Germany and had to pay the bill later for the phone call outside of the country his was in,and complained and they were magically able to get my ring returned to me on the orginal promised date. I then left the country to get married and had several problems with the payment of this ring. they didnt except my online payment and just kept it pending for months. they served me with a late fee. we then had to call from Germany again and pay the out of country fee, and complain that we had it all set up and their company just left it pending. it wasnt our fault. so they removed the late fee and made us pay double the next month to make up for the previous month they never took...so again the next month, the same thing happened...we had to call again! and we got a even higher late fee...and now, they wont take off the late fee...and this past month, they finally excepted my online payment, but took double the amount!!! and still expect me to pay again next month even though we just paid double this month for no reason! do not shop with this company! you will want to pull your hair out!

My fiancé and I purchased my engaugment ring and wedding band from kay jewlers in Washington crown…read morecenter mall, in Washington pa, in May 2014. At the time we were told by the sales person that the ring had a lifetime warrenty built in to the price that covered the either the metal only, or the diamonds only, I can't remember. But to have the other covered by a lifetime warrenty we had to buy it, which we did purchase. We were told by the sales person that the ring was totally covered, if anything happened to the ring at all we can bring the ring back and they will fix it. This end of April/beginning of May of this year, I noticed a diamond was missing from my ring so we took the ring back to the store where we were promised that if anything happened they would fix it. The sales person on shift took the ring and looked up our information in their system. She set the ring down on the counter and stated, I don't see where you brought the ring in for inspection so there's nothing I can do. And just stood there starring at us. We both explained to the sales person, that bringing the ring back for an inspection was never explained to us at the time of purchase. My fiancé immediately said, I want to speak to your manager. The sails person said, he's not here. And continued to just stand there, starring at us. My fiancé then stated to the sales person, someone will either fix this or refund my money. The sales person then stated, please let me finish. I will get my manager. Then a jentleman named jake walked to the counter. My fiancé immediately stated, you said your manager was not here. The sales person stated, well he's here now. The gentleman identified himself as jake, the assistant manager. He asked what the problem is. We explained to him that at the time of purchase we were only told by the sales person that if anything happened to the ring just bring it back. Jake immediately got visibly upset and stated he does t know what was said at the time of sale but the policy is we have to bring the ring in every six months or the warrenty is void. Jake then stood there and staired at us. My fiancé then also visibly became upset and stated to jake, either fix this ring or return it. Jake then said he wanted to refund the ring. To which, my eyes began to well up because this establishment, in that one gesture, proved to me that they are completely soulless and callas. It truly was more satisfying for the assistant manager to take away the ring that symbolizes my new marrage than it was to just fix and save future sales from us. Jake looked up the sale in his system and said the sale was too old to refund the ring. My fiancé then stated, you need to do something. The assistant manager then stated, let me finish, I will have the ring inspected which will reinstate the warranty. Then, we will fix the ring, but from here on out you have to bring the ring back for inspection every six months. This made both of us very upset, he created such chaos, me made my fiancé very upset and he made me cry when this resolution could have been offered before this emotional roller coaster the employees of this store created in an effort to get us to leave with a ring with missing diamonds instead of secureing future business. Then to top all off, the ring is now fixed and my fiancé, who purchased the ring, went to pick the ring up because it is now fixed and was turned away. Again, they never told us that the person who filled out the repair ticket would have to be the person to pick the ring up. So again, they waisted our time, for what honestly seems to be for the amusement of the employees sake. The employee really seem to enjoy making everything difficult for us. if when we left the ring to be fixed, they told us I had to pick up the ring, he wouldn't have waisted his time.
