I was impressed with how organized and together this store was. For some reason other marshalls seem so unkempt and all over the place. I got what I needed, it was a nice experience, I would go back. Only problem: no soap in the restroom. When I came out and informed the staff member who is positioned at that area, he took out a pump soap container which I thought he was handing to me to take back into the bathroom. No! Designer fashions and home goods waaaayyyyy discounted! Attention 'bargainistas', 'recessionistas', 'fashionistas'- if you haven't been to Marshall's, you should go. They've got designer merchandise at fabulously discounted prices. Not only do they have all types of clothes and lingerie, but home goods like sumptuous and exotic pillows and candles, bedding, kitchenware, and even furniture! Also, the store serves everyone in the family- men, women, babies, toddlers, kids, and juniors/teens. They've got an extensive plus size section (and by plus I mean all the way up into the size 20's +), gorgeous swimwear, coats, jeans, dresses (they've got tons of those Maxi 1970's dresses that are in style now), purses, and everything else under the sun. Marshall's is up to 60% less than department store prices. They're able to do this because they receive leftovers from department stores that over-buy, or designers that over-produce. Like TJ Maxx, their buyers are out there hustling deals 52 weeks out of the year, which means the stock is ever-changing, and you can find something new there every day. In terms of organization, Marshall's is like a thrift store in that you have to spend more time looking through all the stuff, as they may only have one or two of each item, especially on their clearance racks. But oh what you will discover! They don't offer coupons or rewards points, but they do have their own Marshall's credit card, and if you apply for it, and get it, you get 10% off of your first purchase. read more

AAAGH i still cannot stop speaking about the ridiculous incident that occurred to me here over the weekend. I need to vent on yelp before my friends and family have to hear this story again. 1 star for service. 1 star for terribly long lines. the merchandise is fine and can get a normal amount of stars but this was the worst customer service I have ever received. After waiting in a ridiculously long line, I got to the register to return an item and purchase 3 items. I explained this to the cashier. she returned my item and then wished me a good day. I again had to explain to her that I would now like to purchase these 3 items (2 bath mats and a skirt). The skirt happened to be an amazing deal on clearance. It was a tennis skirt that retails at tennis shops for over $100. I noticed Marshalls originally marked it for $60 but after that it had been marked down numerous times until it got to the final price of $15. What an amazing deal. Then the cashier proceeds to tell me that the skirt isn't actually $15. What? The price sticker clearly says $15. the cashier begins ripping off the mark down sticker and telling me it's the wrong sticker. I asked why she was ripping it off before showing a manager or scanning it to be sure it was wrong. She told me that the sticker under it ($20) is right and I should pay $20 for the skirt. I explained to her that I was going to pay the price marked on the skirt as that is how I found it and I have no idea why she thinks I would pay the higher price; could i please speak to a manager? I was very nice this whole time. The cashier than says to me "YOU NEED TO LEARN HOW TO TALK TO PEOPLE". at this point, i had had enough. she needed to learn how to talk to me. She should have politely said "There is a problem with this price sticker and I will get in trouble if i sell it to you as is. i need to speak with my manager first but we will come up with a way to help you". instead, she just kept ripping off the price sticker and then arguing with me, the customer, who just wants to buy the skirt at the advertised price. Now, the manager comes over and tells me that the price is wrong because it was on a red sticker and red markdown stickers don't go over yellow markdown stickers. HMMM well, it appears they do since there is one on my item. she then gives me a whole rant about how things at this store have the wrong prices on them all the time. WHAAAT? this is a problem. I told her that this is a problem and that she will need to train her employees on how to mark things down properly but in the meantime she needs to take responsibility as store manager for her employees errors and sell me the skirt for the marked price. she then went on another rant about how it is often customers who change the prices to make $250 purses only $25. I explained that that was a whole different story but that this is a difference of $5 and she shouldn't lose the sale for her company over $5 but most importantly if someone is trying to scam the company by marking things down significantly, they will then try to purchase the item themselves. they are not going to risk getting arrested to mark the item down and then leave it behind on the racks for someone elses benefit. she could not understand this concept. i had to explain it again. She finally agreed to sell me the skirt for $15 if she could make another price tag for it (uh, sure, what the hell do i care about that?). she told me the cashier would have done the same thing if i had bothered to let her finish talking (clearly, this manager needs a lesson on customer service as well) but i had let the cashier finish talking and she definitely expected me to pay the higher $20 price. best part of the story, she made the new price tag in RED not yellow! nobody in the store could believe what was going on. I had other customers cheering for me to stand up for my rights. This was all so ridiculous. The skirt was a perfectly good deal at $20 and had it been marked $20 i gladly would have paid $20, but I wasn't going to play a game or let's make a deal on the price, ooops sorry, you let me rip off the top markdown sticker and now you pay the higher one underneath. I have never seen a store do this before in my entire shopping life! read more

I actually adore marshalls as the store itself. The prices are good, I always find something that I really want/need. What I DONT like are the associates especially the cashiers. There is always a line, which almost never bothers me. The line wrapped around all the little front isle/walkway they have. They had 6 registers open and I could figure out why we were waiting so long until we came to the register. I had ONE pair of jeans. Figured I'd be at the register for 3 mins. WRONG. 10 minutes (seriously). Our cashier was younger man, and it took him 10 minutes to scan the jeans, he never took the alarm off, and he got mad when we paid cash and we had to hit "print receipt" on the credit card machine (when we didn't even use a CC so why would we pay attention to the screen) bc him and the other two girl cashiers at his side were more interested in their conversations. And he started complaining with them about how the line was so long and he's tired of working etc. 10. Minutes. Telling the girl two registers down he's gonna go home and smoke, and she should come over, etc. Idc about coworkers having a convo out come on!!! Scan the pants and put them in the bag, which he didn't even do, he placed the pants down on the counter and handed me the bag. Like seriously??? please check some of your associates. Lots of people in the registers next to us were making faces like why are these associates talking shit like they're not at work? I wouldn't have even cared if he would have at least paid attention and took care of us in 3 mins instead of messing around with his coworkers. Not professionals at all read more

I shop at this Marshalls, somewhat, frequently . The set up is a little disarrayed according to certain departments, especially the men's section. Ones size is usually all over the place. The bedding section is cheap, you get what you pay for. What I dislike is the " what-not queue area", the line you have to go through before you get the cashiers. Staff is usually friendly. Security is tight, you can see and feel them staring you down. This morning at 10 AM when I went to shop was not crowded at all so there's no waiting in the queue line for very long. read more

I love shopping at Marshalls, TJMaxx and Home Goods because of the incredible prices and great finds. Unfortunately, I recently had a horrible experience at the Harlem store with Gene (store manager) which I have to share. I purchased an Arc lamp and because of the size, had it delivered for a fee of $15.99. After getting it home, I realized the lamp was too big and it needed to be returned. I brought the lamp back 4 days after purchasing it with the receipt (refunds within 30 days). The salesgirl is about to return it, but because it's over $100, it needs a manager's approval..here comes Gene. The first thing he says to me in a very questioning voice, 'Where did you buy this? Did you buy this at Marshalls?' I tell him 'not only did I buy it at Marshalls, I got it from this very store'..he then take the receipt and say he'll be right back. While waiting between 10-15 minutes, a loss prevention person came to the register, didn't say anything, but clearly was there because of this transaction. Oh, I used my Tj Maxx card to make the purchase. Finally, Gene comes back and tell me he had checked the camera to see who made the purchase! I asked him why was I being profiled while making a return with a valid receipt. Of course, he had no answer. I made a complaint with Marshalls customer service and spoke with the District Manager who apologized and assured me this is not how Marshalls treats it's customers and not representative of the company. This was an embarrassing and humiliating experience and I have NO plans to EVER shop this particular Marshalls again. If nothing comes out of this, at the very least, I hope a refresher course in diversity training is put in place. read more

I think all Marshalls look the same lol. It looks like everybody picked something up and put it back in the wrong place. I was able to purchase a pair of converse from this location once. But that was the only decent type of shoes I was able to find. They do have a good selection of sandals, flats or heels though. Their jean section for women was pretty organized I was able to find nice pairs in my size. But the lines...are very annoying and I end up picking something up while im waiting in line. There are two things that I have learned from shopping at this Marshalls. Always open product cartons before purchasing items. I've seen so many half-empty bottles of cosmetics,, fragrances, skincare and bath and body products in this store. And if you want to spend the shortest time on the checkout line, shop around closing time. Miraculously, every register is open. read more

I prefer going to Marshalls than TJ Maxx in lower Manhattan since it is much nearer to home for me. Same concept where you need to have patience to dig thru everything to find a good deal and you have to deal with the long line at the check-out. Happy Shopping! :o) read more

Marshalls Harlem S.U.C.K.S!! Too many things wrong about this location. Where do I begin?? The sales workers are super lazy. I really wonder why they're even hired because they truly appear as if they do not want to be there. They are never helpful and if you ask them for help they seem bothered. This Marshalls is ALWAYS so unorganized! It gets me annoyed to the point where I don't even continue looking throughout the store. Also, it smells funky in there! Definitely not my favorite Marshalls. The ones in Puerto Rico bring this location DOWN to the ground. The styles are kind of on the tacky side. Puerto Rico has way better PRICES, styles, and selection. So glad they opened one up in East Harlem. That one is MUCH better than its local competitor. The BEST thing I got out of this Marshalls was my lavender prom dress which was very beautiful and original. Nothing as good since! I don't recommend this Marshalls. read more

Lines are way too long. They don't respect out time as human beings to not have to wait 30-45 pretty much every time you want to pay for you items. I think it's all about economics and the opportunity cost of the people they think are shopping at their store. read more

I like this Marshall's. Recently I just found a beautiful dress, shoes and a purse all in the same trip! The customer service is pretty much non existent, besides the cashiers, but you don't really need any. You just have to search. Honestly I don't mind waiting on a long line especially if I'm getting something that I really want. Plus your getting discounted designer clothes (sometimes), I'll wait in line for that. But if you want to go in and out of here, with an item, that will rarely happen. I think it is fair, however they would be awesome if you could get out of there fast. read more

I've never really shopped at marshalls, but i have been in there a few times and, when you read that it is a mess... Its because it rlly REALLY is a mess in there. Is pretty gross and maybe that's why i haven't really bought anything. Half the things aren't even on the racks and they're just thrown all over the floor. So if you're looking to buy clothes... After telling me my card was declined I left my merchandise and called my bank.... Nope card wasn't declined and I had been charged, get back in line with my bank statement on my phone, I calmly explained I was fine leaving the merchandise, I just didn't want to be charged. Both the original cashier and the "manager" refused to listen to me and yelled at me in front of everyone. Humiliating having retail cashiers accuse you of trying to scam them out of $6 socks. I have been to this location over at least 5 times. My only complaint is the nasty attitude of cashiers along with the ridiculously long line. I don't know if this particular store is just under staffed or if everyone just magically calls out of work on the exact same day!!! Whichever con it is, this needs to be fixed asap. You know how they say "It's not what you know, it's who you know"? There was a female ghetto cashier employed there who was SURELY handed the job from a higher up. I say this because there is no way in hell she could hold an intelligent conversation with someone, let alone ace the interviewing process without offending someone with her aggressive mannerisms. Like...really? Why the attitude? There are people who would be more than willing to accommodate customers with a friendly demeanor while doing so. I have shopped at this Marshalls since it's opening in 2003. I completely agree the wait times in line can be painful, ESPECIALLY for layaway, which can be a 1 hour wait, usually on the weekend, and there will usually be only 1 person doing layaway. And the staff can be unhelpful and complacent. However I do see an improvement in the store. In the last few months it has been better stocked, plus they have done some very nice remodeling. It's best to go weekdays, or early in the morning on the weekend. read more

Great Marshalls! The location is so convenient for uptown shoppers and they have an excellent mix of trendy and conservative clothes. My husband got some very comfortable and stylish work shoes and the ties are reasonably priced as well! This is going to be a regular shopping spot for us for sure. read more

Don't listen to the haters, this place is EXCELLENT! If you are looking for an H&M experience--one where the entire shopping experience caters to well-off, hip youth--Marshall's is clearly not the place for you. But if you are looking for high quality merchandise at low prices then there is not a single good reason to avoid this place. The staff was helpful and friendly, the store was for the most part organized (granted some sections required significant shelving but nothing was grotesque or unbearable as others have suggested), and as mentioned before, the prices are ABSURDLY low (we are talkin CK, Ralph Lauren, Polo and Hillfieger long sleeve dress shirts for anywhere between $10-$25). Furthermore, the store is located in a remarkably interesting part of Harlem; the streets are abound with character. If you can stand a little messiness (and let me be clear that the place is certainly CLEAN, as in sanitary, just some parts are sloppy) you are doing yourself a disservice by not checking it out. read more
