I'm a self proclaimed maxxinista and am embarrassed to admit the frequency with which I patronise and check for clearance deals. I tend to prefer Marshalls over TJ Maxx due to availability of deals and quicker lines. This location in Harlem was surprisingly better stocked than the ones in Brooklyn and going early, it was a much smoother and pleasant shopping experience. The shelves were more organised, the lines were shorter, and the prices were the same, if not better. The only thing is that there's no bathroom inside (that I could find) and there are cops inside, so that might change you're experience. read more

Glad they have this location within easy walking distance from my house. It's been useful when there's something I need to buy that they stock (like utensil for my kitchen or picture frame) and am in a hurry. On the whole, it's well stocked.. that is within the normal Marshalls/TJ Maxx goods they sell. One issue at this location, the checkout - which makes you serpentine through a maze - is often slow with needed additional staffing. AC is on point during the summer! which is great because is too hot outside. 2 floors with essentials. Second floor, women clothes, bags, shoes, perfumes, gym equipment and make up. Third floor, men and kids clothing, pets toys and some treats, bathroom towels and kitchen supplies. First floor doesn't count is just the entrance. The line is always huge !!!! they are always at least 9 cashiers working but believe me, you can be 30 minutes in that line !! They are smart , during the line you are going to find different delicious snacks !!! ofc !! you need snacks to do that huge line!!! hahaha This store doesn't have enough specials and clothes are expensive compare with other Marshalls ! Also only one group of people seem to by hired here and they are all muslim who have horrible customer skill and all I see them doing is spending time on the phone even when your asking them for help. However, for a Saturday morning this was a unicorn event because the store wasn't crowded and after "browsing" I breezed thru the line and was out the door in less than 10 minutes. Speaking of browsing... Browse at the peril of your budget! LOL. Well I have been going there since day one when it opened. I love this Marshalls. One they know me. They are super organized and clean. Also has a large variety. I am the shopper for my entire family. Sisters, nieces, etc because this is one of the best of Marshalls. People are always amazed on what I can get from there. Getting used to life in NYC is not hard when it comes to the energy here. It is an extrovert's paradise. The weather here is a different story. A trade-off well-worth it, but one I have to adapt to nonetheless. I was in need of some summer clothing, some that would allow me maximum comfort in the summertime humidity here. I came here to Marshall to check out their inventory. This multi-level store has decent stock. I was able to find what I was looking for, and then some. I got some dry fit shirts and shorts, as well as belts and socks for my professional wear. The folks here, both the staff and patrons, were friendly. I prefer the locations where everything is on 1 level, but that's often not possible in Manhattan. 1st floor - entrance 2nd floor - women, shoes, checkout/returns, beauty, handbags/accessories, juniors, dressing rooms 3rd floor - mens, kids, travel, home, dressing rooms, restrooms The bath and body products here are quite similar to other locations. Some recognizable brands like: Philosophy Alba Nourish Organic Burt's Bees Living Proof The Honest Company Shea Moisture And plenty of no-name brands in nice packaging. The food section is always one of my favorite in these types of stores. They have such random, unique food products. I like this Marshall's, though I feel I've experienced better ones than this Harlem location. They're low on the high-end designer brands I've seen elsewhere, however, they do well enough to earn their customer base. I seem to always find amazing winter sweaters here. My only issue is the checkout. There's a never a day or time when the line is not folded into 5 lines, crushed and trapped between a never ending half-wall stacked with junk foods - some really good junk foods. I'm not sure if the hold up has something to do with Marshall's outdated cashier/labeling system or what - because the cashiers seem to be doing everything they can as efficient as possible. The line is probably so slow for reasons outside of their control. My advice: Only go if you have at least 40 minutes to spare - and 30 of those minutes will be for the line. Good things they carry if you show up at the right time/s: Candles (all types - high-end) Lotions/Soaps (Excellent selection & big bargains) Nice bathroom decor. Nice sheet sets/duvets Sweaters Wool Coats Fancy oils & foods! NOTE: I can't stand the manager of this store (Gene I believe). I know him when I see him. Great prices but long lines on the weekends. It's Marshalls, so one can and should expect an unorganized experience. For the most part, I got everything thing that I needed for my new apt. I went in looking to buy a couple of items and ended up with a shopping cart full of stuff. I found the staff to be pretty helpful with no attitudes about doing their jobs. My cashier was SUPER friendly. The only negative was the line was very long, like TSA long. However, there were multiple cashiers working and the line moved relatively fast. read more

I usually manage to find something cute in this location. I may have to dig a bit, but as far as the selection goes, this store is fine in my opinion. Where they fail is another story, and if you'd like a pleasant shopping experience, go anywhere else but here. I can't even blame the fact that it's in Harlem---the dollar store is even a far better experience. Don't expect any of the sales associates to be helpful, fake cracking a smile, or even look you in the eye at all. Don't you dare find a cute, clearance skirt near the bedding, because if you ask an associate where you might find the rest of the clearance skirts, they will literally scoff at you as though you have inconvenienced them by breathing, and then say something like, "I'm not sure, I don't work in that department." Um, OK? I didn't ask you to locate a specific brand or size. You work here. Use your sour little brain, please. At the register, after waiting in a line that isn't long, but takes forever because the associates would rather re-hang clothes at snail speed rather than take the next customer, you will be met with resentment. They seem to resent the fact that they work there, resent the fact that you're shopping, and absolutely loathe being helpful (though no one is forcing them to work in customer service). When they tell you your total, it is done with malice and depression in their voices. Aside from the people who work there, the store is always a mess. Even in the morning, there's crap all over the floor. I think the evening shifts just don't care. At all. None of them do. Be prepared to dig through some junk in some racks, especially clearance. I get that it is a gutter dive, so it gets messy, but most stores have a routine of recovery that maintain the appearance. This Marshalls does not. I tend to shop here when I'm in one of my "don't look at me, don't talk to me," moods. I've been to this Marshall's a few times and have never been disappointed. Its actually a lot cleaner than a few of the Marshalls in other boroughs. I love that it has a lot of open space so even when its crowded you're not bumping into other customers. I am a bargain shopper so I dont mind looking for the right outfit for a deal. I am rating this place solely on the value of the products they sell. As a single guy in the city, Harlem's Marshall outperforms many of the others I've been to. I buy all my wardrobe there. They have an excellent selection of dress slacks, jeans, button down shirts, business shirts, sports coats, long coats and a crap load of fashionable ties. I'm talking Banana Republic, DKNY, Calvin Klein, Joseph Abaud...everything at incredible discount prices. They have large of selection shows, although the women come out winning in this department. In terms of stuff for the home. They've got such an array of bedroom stuff...sheet sets, comforters, etc. Plenty of decor items which are always on sale from stuff that's urban chic to stuff that's more motif like, portraits, framed art, etc. Bottom line you can really make your NYC apartment look like the bomb shopping. The prices are cheap for Manhattan - though a little pricier than the Marshall's of my childhood out in the suburbs. Just like any discount department store you have to sift through 90% "meh" products to get to the 10% of items that are truly a great find. Once you've conquered the laborious task of sifting through all the "mehs" you have to wait in an enormous line to check out. And I mean enormous! They need to shop at Bergdorf Goodman and hire a personal shopper. It's a science when shopping at Marshall's every week there is going to be something different. It's a second rate Marshall's, without the quality of brands of the tjmaxx and Marshall's of the suburbs. It's a shame because consumers are consumers and money spent is money spent, right? Shopping here you would never know it; the staff is particularly unhelpful, everything is all about like no one bothers to put it back in its rightful place... As if nothing has a place. The bathrooms aren't fit to be used, so it's hard to contemplate spending a long time shopping here... Maybe needing to use the facilities. Shopping here can be intimating the first time around, the other, more seasoned Marshall's shoppers will try to punk you. You must stand your ground. Is this the best Marshall's in the world? Not by a long shot. Is it decent for where it's located? I think so. I've been in worse Marshall's and other discount stores. This one is a bit dirty in the sense of the floor could use more cleaning/mopping. But they also get super high turn over. So I understand not being able to keep up with this as readily as one would like. I've seen exploded beauty products all over the shelves. No excuse for that one. They don't reshelve things quickly. The undies are out of their packages and everywhere. Things have fallen off of the hangers and are on the floor. The bathroom accessory department is seriously lacking. But for the amount of turn over they get you go through the checkout line relatively quickly. And come on, y'all. You're trying to get stuff that, in general, costs twice as much - if not more - than what you're paying. I've never had a sales rep come up to me to offer help. As long as you know what you're in for, you can make a killing maximizing your Marshall's shopping experience. Great deals and selections of clothes, rugs, bed/bath stuff and books- and this is the overriding factor at the end of the day. It will help you tolerate the amusement park-like lines and the fact that you can't really can't get anyone to help you on the sales floor. However, The houseware and furniture goods suck. I went there looking for a little microwave stand but the furniture is all busted up with impossible to remove stickers on the wood. 5 stars for Marshalls, crazy, yes? This is the only Marshalls in the city that is neat and tidy. It is big, on two wide floors. I already love Marshall's, so I'm biased. Let's just say I was in here 3 times and never made it to the second floor (extremely disappointed). While it is complete pandemonium in here (its on 125th what do you really expect) - there are some GREAT finds! I left my snow boots back home (Baltimore - stupid stupid me, I know!) and was able to buy some great warm fashionable ones for $45! LOVE A GOOD DEAL/SALE/CLEARANCE! You do have to do a lot of digging and searching, but let's be honest, this store gets a HUGE amount of traffic, and you can only hire so many people to keep up with it. All Marshall's Tjmaxx and Home Goods are not the same! I love theses stores for the awesome random finds. For instance and Alice & Olivia dress, originally $210 I got on sale for $59! Unfortunately this location is consistently disappointing. The racks are picked over and the shoe section looks like Kansas after the wicked witch came through! The lines are horrible, one cashier upstairs and not even half of the registers being used downstairs unless it's almost closing. In that case, their employees are so anxious to get out of there that they will put every staff member behind a register. Upside to this location: the home department. Large furniture and nice displays almost seems like a mini Home Goods store. read more

The only reason this Marshalls gets 3 stars is 'cause saving money in Manhattan is hard to do, and you can totally do it here. The merchandise is a mess, and crammed in like sardines in a "How crammed in can you get?" contest. But it's there, it's got a lable, and it's on sale. After shopping there 4 times I have only purchased one thing. But my dark teal, fitted, puffy winter jacket has gotten me through two winters, fabulously. For $35. One time I left empty-handed just because I had crappy luck, and twice(!) after my inhalation of shock propelled me through the door after one look at the winding line. Have fun shoppers!! read more
