Because I enjoyed browsing the Marshalls in Riverside last week, I thought I'd check out the one in La Verne near my work during my lunch break. Brightly lit, well organized, and of course I gravitated toward the clearance racks. I was on the lookout for a rain jacket for an upcoming trip but wanted something stylish that I could wear as a layer on the airplane (I always get hot in airports and cold in planes so I have to plan layers accordingly). I found a DKNY short trench coat style black rain coat with hood, machine washable, light but water resistant, originally $75 for $40 on the clearance rack. Tried it on, loved it. (A convenient tall mirror was nearby in a column by the skincare items). Score! I will use it for years to come and it goes with everything. Long line to check out, but it moved fast. Marshalls has an automated system to announce which register is open so the staff don't have to yell "next customer!" in hopes that people are paying attention. The staff person helping me was efficient and helpful and I was overall in and out of the store in 20 minutes. I thought I'd have to find something online since my trip is coming up fast, but you never know how clothes will fit unless you try it on (jackets are less risky but still). I like to browse local department stores when I need ideas for a gift. I bought earrings, one pair for me and one for the birthday girl. Marshall's has household items, towels, placemats, dishes, stemware, clothing, purses, shoes, pajamas and clothing for infants, children, men and women. I really scored on makeup, I never have enough. They carry name brand products at half price!! The store is very organized, clean and well stocked. The employees are friendly and helpful. The check out line is one single row. They average 3 cashiers at a time who will call the next person to approach the counter. This kept the line moving and I was out in a few minutes. Recently this store has been severely understaffed. The line the last 3 times I have come in has been past the divider and into the store. Today I came in just to make a return and stood in line for over 30 minutes while they had two diligent workers on the registers. After 30 minutes they finally brought out a third person. I visited your store today and witnessed 2 upper management employees (assuming) on the sales floor, talking about staff members while I was attempting to get to the end of the line and while waiting in line. What I gathered from their interaction was one team member called off today (Friday) so they asked other team members to stay over to which they declined and then they proceeded to talk about the person that called off. "Well, if she's off tomorrow it's because she wanted a longer weekend." "We already know they aren't going to stay" they both proceeded to agree and say the same thing over and over. The line was wrapped around to the start of the phone cases and they were actually blocking my cart near the men's section standing in the middle of the aisle while I was trying to move passed them to get in line. They were too busy discussing team members instead of moving out of the way. It's incredibly distasteful to have people in positions of power talking about staff members openly not to mention doing so comfortably in front of shoppers. The name badge on the man read, "AJ W" a tall man with tattoos, the woman was an OLDER blonde short lady who walked off and I never saw her again. Shame on the both of you. I was on my way home and decided to stop at this Marshalls. It's definitely your standard Marshalls. I found what I needed. The reason for the 3 stars is because when I went to the cash register to pay the person asked me that dreadful question "Would you like to make a donation towards St. Jude or round up and donate your change". I politely declined. She continued to ring me up. Once done she gave me my total and she AGAIN asked "Are you sure you wouldn't want to donate the 5 cents?" This REALLY BOTHERED me. A person should only have to say no once. We shouldn't be put on the spot AGAIN by them asking to donate after a person already said no. read more

I had the worst interactions with two fitting room attendance right now I asked one attendant if there's a restroom because I am having a medical emergency. I'm about to pass out and you could visibly see me cry, sweat, and shaking . the first lady that I asked completely ignored me the first time I asked her. The Second time I verbally said I'm having a medical emergency. I'm about to pass out then she finally gives me the direction of the restroom the other fitting room attendant cuts her off and rudely says there's no restrooms. They're not working right and just stares at me with a disgust look on her face. I've gone to this Marshalls multiple times and I love going there I have never had an interaction like that. At this place until now and I am genuinely not the one to ever complain about stuff like this because I've worked customer service and I think their response could have been a little bit more better. Customer service needs serious improvement. Had an employee essentially tell me to look somewhere else in the store because I was in her way. To be exact she said "I'm going to keep getting in your way, so you should move somewhere else". It was just so rude as a customer to feel chased out of a store. I walked into this location in La Verne and the items were for more of a mature crowd,, I didn't really see anything that stood out to catch my attention so if you're going there at the shop for family members, parents and grandparents, that's your place. As soon as I reached the cashier for my return I could tell she had a bad attitude. I take out my 3 items to return that I had just purchased 3 days ago. I hand her my receipt. She starts scanning them and then suddenly says I will be right back? Ok. She tells me she can't accept the return because they smell like cigarettes!! I said they DO NOT. So I guess a supervisor came over and shoves the sweater in her face and says oh yes they do. Again I said THEY DON'T. Then she shoves the sweater into a man's face and at first he said nothing then she said it smells like cigarettes doesn't it? Then he said oh yes it does. She returns and smugly says sorry nothing I can do. First of all I don't smoke and secondly I never removed them from the bag after purchase. I couldn't believe the horrible customer service. The store is a dirty mess with stuff all over the floor. Supposed name brand items... I don't think so. With such few customers they should try to keep them. Not me though I'm done here. read more

Anyone who knows me well knows that I love to shop, but what I love even more is finding good ass deals! And this is why I looove Marshalls stores! They always have great items for half (or less) than what you'd pay at department stores/the mall. This store never lets me down. I've bee coming to this specific location for years now, and it's one of my favorites. It's always clean and organized. Their cashiers are always friendly and I often even strike up a conversation with the cashier about my amazing finds! Lol. Example....I walked in today and discovered they have Ole Henriksen beauty products. Whaaat?!? I bought a new face mask and eye cream for $12 each! Unbelievable! It's very unfortunate that the employees put the size sticker on the actual shoes. They need to be trained properly and add the sticker on the bottom of the shoe it leaves scratches on the shoes trying to remove the sticker and all the sticky stuff please be corteous of people purchasing the shoes!! read more

Stepping up their game!!! Really great place to buy wonderful, wellmade, quality items for your home (Clothes are still a hit or miss) I've been finding amazing shoes like crazy! Today I bought a coffee table and I'm super excited because it's gorgeous and very well made. This five star is, yes, great "stuff" but the customer service I received today was absolutely above and beyond!!! Selections are good but store experience at cash register was horrendous. Was purchasing a luggage and kindly requested for a price reduction due to significant scratches though out (keep in mind this was the last style and color of its kind). Cashier had the audacity to rudely comment, "well it's going to get scratched up at the airport even more anyway. Don't think you should get a discount". She called the manager on duty. Manager did not even bother to talk to me/acknowledge my existence or even assess the situation she only told the associate to "take wipes and clean off the scratches". Even after wiping it was still evident that the scratches were still there. All this nonsense could have be addressed quickly by just simply giving the minor discount or better yet a simple "no" would have sufficed (i wouldve been ok). But unfortunately i received a bad attitude and unnecessary comments instead. Customer service and manners is heavily lacking at this store. It's clear as day it's because of the culture leadership exemplifies. better off shopping elsewhere! read more

This location has the worst service a "manager" Leigha. The store is in shambles it looks like a poorly planned yard sale with empty product boxes on the shelf being sold, broken merchandise God fore bid you buy some thing that was in the wrong package or defective. They won't return it and the young girl at the front register will be on a power trip. I've never really been a shopper at Marshall's, but during Christmas time i decided to check this store out. I loved how organized everything was even during the holidays. The employees were actually friendly, even though they seemed busy. I was also able to find a variety of things. They had a great size range, and lots of stuff to pick from. Been a patron, not a customer for over 9 years. This Marshall's used to be my go to, up until a month ago. The customer service has diminished, not only in the way the cashiers treat buyers, but, also hearing their personal issues or problems. It's a I don't need to know, I'm just here to shop.. I took a blouse to return that I had hanging for about 2 months, changed my mind, had my receipt and tag, the cashier was like I can't locate the description on the machine, I specifically mentioned to her, I bought it a couple of months ago, can I just get credit for it as I am purchasing other items. Either it was a supervisor or manager that was called, a young man, he asked, did you wear it? Me, no, his response ok they'll help you out, I waited over 5 minutes then I asked, what am I waiting for, the cashier, oh they're checking the floor for a similar blouse, me didn't you hear me that I've had it for months. So I asked, "Are you giving me the credit or not? Why am I still waiting?" Couldn't believe they were sweating me for a $20 blouse when I've spent much more and go in there 2-3 times a week. Was my fave Marshall's but as of today it's not. I careless to drive to upland or Monrovia. Employees are always looking angry. So I went to make a return and the cashier was nice but the manager name Zayra R was a bit aggressive when I explained that I lost my receipt and forgot my license. I've returned items for store credit. It was just a purchase of $20. With my T.J.Maxx credit card. She immediately became bothered and rolled her eyes telling me she's been a manager her for a long while and that's never happened. She didn't give me a chance to explain more. I feel like these young employees allow their anger to get the best of them. Not nice. Again this is why certain stores are closing down. Went shopping for myself for the first time during covid! Had a great time, bought sandals, clothes and nick nacks. There was a particular lady named Ronnie who went above and beyond helping me today. Found a lone sandal in my size that I loved but, couldn't find the other shoe! She was so nice and helpful and success came home with new sandals. It's rare you get great service in a shoe section so had to say thank you for the great service I received today. We recently went in to look for window curtains after going to one or two different places already. My husband thought we were going to Ross and went into this place by mistake. He didn't really realize it until probably after we left. This place may look small on the outside but it's quite big on the inside. There's some great deals including exercise gear and clothes. We did manage to get curtains there that weren't gaudy or too simple. I wanted to go back and get a gift for a friend and I was pressed for time. I got there between 9/9:30 am and realized they don't even open until 9:30. That's an odd time to open. I think they should change their store hours to 9am-9pm instead. That's my only gripe so far. It's a great place to check out if you want to get the most bang for the buck. read more

Worst experience in here ever! Svetlana in the front register acts as if you stole her firstborn child if you dare take a box to go with your shoes. Short summary: Found some Nikes on clearance and I tried to grab a box so that I can wrap it up for a present and she confiscated my nike box that they always throw away! Mind you; Of all of that the Marshall's that I have ever been to in my life; not ONE has ever done this to me. Even with shoes from clearance! I thought this Marshalls was not too bad. The one by my house in Monrovia is brightly lit and clean. This location is clean, but a little more dim that gives it an older feel. I like the way the store was organized and the way the clearance items were places. It wasn't just thrown around and you can tell the employees take the time to make everything neat and easy to get to and I really appreciated that. I wish they had a little more selection of items. The cashier was very friendly and the area is nice. I don't see myself going out of my way to come here because I've not in the area often, but if I ever am I would come here again. read more

This review isn't about their clothes selection or check out lines, this review is about the reprehensible and ignorant worker they have here. I came in a few days ago with my two little ones, my mom and my grandmother. I was pushing my infant around in his stroller and my mom had a shopping cart with my 4 year old daughter. I went my separate way because I wanted to look at some shoes. As my mom was pushing my daughter in the cart past the dressing rooms, the worker went out rudely and coldly asked my mom if my daughter was her granddaughter, of course my mom said yes. The lady went back to speaking to someone on her headset, and said nothing more to my mom. The reason this is issue is because my mom is a darker skinned Mexican-American woman. My daughter has blondish hair with light skin, because she is half white. So this Marshalls employee basically racially profiled my mom because to her they didn't match. My daughter was happy as a clam with Grandma, looking around, excited to look at the toys soon. Then this B*&$@ had the audacity to come out of the dressing room and question how my mom was related to her granddaughter!! Unfortunately, my mom didn't share this until we got home. I'm sure a mix of self preservation and her embarrassment, didn't want me to make a scene. This behavior is so unacceptable and deplorable. Marshalls needs to teach their employees that yes, in 2016, multi cultural families exist. We don't all look a like, and that's a beautiful thing. Added: In case anyone from Marshalls cares or reads this. It was an older white lady with glasses. Working the dressing room between the hours of 11am and 1pm on Monday 09/19/2016. This Marshalls is just okay. Their pricing is inconsistent, not only with other discounted stores like TJ Maxx and other Marshalls, but within itself. I found a skincare item for $29.99 and the same exact one next to it for $34.99. Look carefully if there are larger quantities of the same item and you may find it has a cheaper price tag on it. Also, their dry shampoo is more expensive than any other discounted stores I have been to. Their beauty section is just overall lacking, as I only found 3 brands of hair spray and they were all $9.99 or more. I can typically find a huge selection and cheaper at other discount stores. I have also found a much better selection of department store/high end brand clothing at other locations. This one seems to just have an older vibe for clothing, or really young/teen clothing. Nothing really in between for 20-30's. The quality of clothing available for 20-30's women seems to be lower quality clothing that is just marked down even further than it's already low price. I did however like their selection of home goods, like hand soaps and decor. And their intimates department had a great selection of bras and underwear with various sizes and higher end brands. I will also note that their dressing room is incredibly clean and looks newly remodeled. So there are the positives :) read more

Excellent customer service, the store is very clean. Merchandise is excellent. Mel the store manager went above and beyond helping us. Sorry to say I did not get the other girls name who helped us find pants I need to exchange but she was very helpful as well... 110% satisfied with this store......we will be back to visit this Lavern store even though the Upland store is closer. I was very impressed by the customer service provided by Lauren during my shopping escapade today. She helped me twice during my visit -- the first time was at the dressing rooms where she asked another associate to bring me a cart when she saw that I had too many items to carry. The second time was at the register where she made friendly conversation, politely commenting on my purchases. I'd learned not to expect too much from customer service anymore, but Lauren's helped me believe again that indeed genuine and friendly customer service still exists! read more

I love finding two unique little things in Marshall's. Today, I had to return some shoes that broke due to not being sewn properly. They told me that they didn't take back worn goods. I wouldn't be returning the item if the it hadn't pulled apart due to not just being put together correctly. I realize that the issue is with the manufacturer and because of the nature of Marshall's they should havees a better exchange policy for these types of manufacturing problems. I will be far more cautious with the items that I buy here more often. I will only purchase if I'm willing to risk not getting my money back or an exchange. I was refunded as I firmly stated my case, so I appreciated that. So the rating is based on policy that should be reviewed in certain situations. While I had to defend my case the worker would get about 3- stars for customer service. This is a late posting and this happened in March! But still important to be mindful when making a purchase. read more
