My mother was in the Intensive Care Unit for 10 days until she passed away. I cannot imagine better care giving for a patient. All the doctors were extremely supportive and informative to our concerned family. Dr. Turimila, my parents' primary care doctor, was also the doctor on call for an extensive part of our time with our mother. He was caring to the point we considered him part of our family. He treated my mother with a love and dignity that transformed our difficult situation into a beautiful experience. He was the catalyst that brought our family together. I was lied to about recent Covid policies. I am 13 weeks pregnant and recently switched to Marshall from Sutter because a nurse told me that my spouse could attend my ultrasounds. Due to strict Covid policies Sutter did not allow the spouse to attend and now I have found out that Marshall is doing the same. This is a ridiculous policy! They are robbing parents of the exciting experience to see their child for the first time. How is it any more of a risk to have an additional person in the room when we are both screened for symptoms at the door and are exposed to each other every day? If he had Covid, I would have Covid too. Aren't the masks supposed to help mitigate the spread? So if he's wearing a mask, gets screened at the door and has no symptoms, it would make sense to me that he could attend the ultrasound with me. I'm am disappointed that I even bothered to switch to Marshall because I was given false information only to be let down. These policies have robbed me of the excitement that should come with bringing a new baby to this world. I just feel alone, anxious and worried about what the policies will be when it comes time to give birth. They should not be letting women do this alone because they are causing more symptoms of worry and anxiety. This is just CRUEL. read more

The people were very nice when we first showed up at the er and got her back very quickly however after that things didn't go so well we had a doctor that either was not comfortable making his own decisions or not experienced enough either way we had to wait for the shift doctor in the mean time respiratory cake in to do a breathing treatment after the treatment my mom asked for some water to rinse her mouth out because that medicine makes her mouth sore the specialist said that it wouldn't and asked her if the treatment helped my mom said little at that point she rolled her eyes and left my suggestion for Megan is if you don't like your job get a new hopefully you were just having a bad day well we got out at about 1:00am with very professional read more

This review is for the ER department only...med-surg, ICU, TCC, OB & Surgery are aces in my book. Let me start by prefacing this rant. I worked at Marshall for 8 years, and loved it. I love the staff, the doctors..everything. As the only hospital in my town I had always thought of Marshall as a big part of the community that cares about the health of its people. Starting off, late December I had been suffering from a headache that was growing in intensity over a period of a week. I have had migraines since I was six and this was not a migraine. After nagging from my family I finally went to the ER. The Triage nurse ordered an immediate CT scan as my blood pressure was 286/180 and had feared I was having an aneurysm. After the CT came back clear, Dr. Dunning looked me over to tell me I had a strained neck. He never once asked about my blood pressure or if I had a family history of stroke. He just sent me on my way (LAZY!) with life threatening high blood pressure & I still had the headache. When I got home I called a physician friend of mine who said I was having a severe hypertensive event and should have been admitted until my blood pressure was under control. He gave me prescription that helped within the hour. The second event happened in May when my daughter had an infected wisdom tooth. Her dentist told her to go to the ER to get antibiotics (she currently does not have health insurance) before he could remove the tooth. The Triage nurse (a middle aged woman with bobbed red-hair) told her the ER was not a dentist office & they weren't going to be able to help her much. She was extremely condescending and mocked her pain level- my daughter said it was a 10, and the nurse said, "' so If I broke your leg right now, it would hurt that bad?". She then said my daughter wouldn't be able to get emergency Medi-cal (which is completely not in this woman's wheel house). The final nail in the coffin was last Friday. I had to take a relative to Marshall because they were having a mental health crisis. This was a very slow day in the ER..not busy at all. They put us in the quiet room which is void of any pictures, or TV. Within the first 10 minutes of being placed in that room the doctor & nurse both came in to access..then nobody checked on us for 4 hours. Not once, didn't ask us how we felt, didn't ask if we were thirsty...nothing. I had to leave my relative for a couple of hours and when I returned, they would not let me go see my relative or tell me the status. For 2 hours we asked the admitting rep every 10 minutes for a status or to be able to go see the relative. For 2 hours we were given no info. So, I called the ER department directly (as I knew the direct number from when I worked there) and was told by the nurse they thought I had gone home.I was livid. I said, I had been nagging admitting for 2 hours trying to gain access. Then, to top it all off, they sent my relative home. Said that it was just angst,& that they had anger issues & should work on them. they didn't give them any tools like deep breathing exercises or anything to help them... In summary, what I once thought of as the pride of the county has been greatly diminished. Sad times for El Dorado County Citizens. read more

I went in on thanksgiving night for abdominal pain and I had this nurse who was so rude, I've been in there plenty of times and I've never been so upset like this. This nurse's name is Dominique, Dominic, dominoes or something like that. I asked her for a blanket and she said she'd ask. Why did she have to and who did she have to ask? She never brought me that blanket. I had no fever so there is no reason for her to have to ask. Later that night they had an emergency call saying an elderly woman had fallen out of her bed and she started laughing saying she "was going to hell for laughing at the woman who fell out of her bed" and all her other co workers looked at her like the she was crazy for laughing. They should really fire that purpled haired idiot. She clearly doesn't want to be there so why have a person who's rude and laughs at emergencies be there? She just seemed really lazy. The only reason I'm giving this hospital 2 starts is because my main nurse Melissa was amazing!! So polite and sweet. She helped me so much!!!! read more

It starts with my brother. Marshall Hospital is a joke. I was born there. My brother Gary died there. When I first heard that he was in the emergency, I called tried to find out what what happened... the person who answered referred to my living brother as a gumbie.... I don't know what that means. But it's not good. She didn't know I was the sister. And it shouldn't matter, no one should be referred to as a gumbie. As she said, that is a common reference to people in ICU. WTF!!!! I should have sued your ass off right then. My brother was still alive & awake & I was pressured into a DNR. Not by him... but Marshall. I was pulled aside & and told he didn't have much time. And he really didn't, I get that. But they also said we need to make this disciion right now before Dr. "Sing" comes comes back. Well, what does that mean? Would Dr. "Sing " have tried harder to save my brother's life? Or at least given us more time together. read more

After being a patient with Marshall Medical for 20 years, the service I have received in the last 6 months from all departments has been unacceptable especially the billing department. I even had a claim with the patient advocate regarding my experience with the medical office which turned out to be a waste of time because absolutely NOTHING was done. Their lack of communication resulted in sending me to collections, not once have they owned up to the lack of communication and taken some responsibility or even made an attempt to make the situation a positive one. My mother recently passed away at the ICU unit at Marshall's. I can't say enough positive things about the quality of her care and the support and comfort the nurses and all the staff provided her and our family. The ICU lead doctor, Dr. Tirumala, and the nursing staff during her weeklong ordeal were informative and supportive to our family, and worked to provide our mother comfort and dignity during this very difficult time. I can't list all the nurses, but David was remarkably supportive and gentle for the majority of her time, and Jody was a comfort to her and the family as she passed away. If i could give this place a negative star i would. We took our 2 year old there for severe burns from a fire and they dis nothing. I ended up doing his dressings myself and the ER doc scheduled for that day was a self riotous women have no rights kinda person. I work in the medical field in an pediatric urgent care and he was trying to talk to me as if I were an idiot. He woyld only speak to my husband he yelled at me to shut the door and was trying to speak to my husband privately. My husband told him numerous times to speak to my wife and he said I dont need to speak to her I'll talk to you. He never even acknowledge I was there until I yelled at him. Then the billing dept never even billed my insurance they sent the bills directly to me and would call non stop to collect but never billed insurance I informed my insurance and they contacted them. read more

Had surgery at Kaiser Roseville on Friday and something went terribly wrong with the stents they installed, so we went to Marshall on Sunday nite around 6pm. The admitting nurses and triage nurses were spectacular, but the doctor refused to treat me because it was a Kaiser surgery. He was smug and rude and he sent us packing. I have heard a lot of bad things about Dr. D refusing to treat people. Anyway, I went home crying, in pain, with no treatment and removed the stents myself. After being hit by a teenage texter who came thru the drivers side while I was stopped, impacted at 35mph. I needed to get my herniated discs fused w plate and screws. I got the best nurses and doctors for several days. The ice cream and sherbet saved my spirits after a few crappy lunches, still the experience was positive and clean. Completely agree with Kari G. Never go to this hospital. Was visiting El Dorado (from DC) for a wedding and during dinner started having severe side pain. I was unable to move and was taken in an ambulance to Marshall (i.e. had no choice). When I was there, I was basically asked random questions that did not relate to my pain. They had to take blood (which took 15 minutes since half way through, they realized they forgot one of the vials then couldn't find them). Was basically ignored for 3 hours just to find out that they didn't do the blood tests right and had to take more blood (which they had to draw from another site since they couldn't get any more out of my hand). They also needed a urine sample, so they used a catheter to obtain that and they nurse messed up the first time and had to call in extra help. I had told them that I needed to use the bathroom before, but instead, they didn't empty my bladder when they had the catheter in..they asked me if I wanted to use the one down the hall! Uhm....CAN'T MOVE! Severe pain which flares if I move...So they opted for a bed pan and used the smallest one I have ever seen....I ended up peeing all over myself (most embarrassing thing in my life). Then I waited another 2 hours for them to discharge me. No tests, no results...just we think you pulled a muscle. Gave me pain meds and muscle relaxers and sent me on my way. When I was discharged, they didn't help me leave at all. No wheelchair, no help..absolutely nothing. I had to hobble out with my mom. Then 5 weeks later...I get a bill for $5000 and a request for a copy of my insurance card. I sent them a copy of my insurance card the next day. A week and a half later, I get another letter saying that I was not insured and I owe $5000. This is completely untrue. We called my insurance company and they indicated that they did not receive any request for that day of service. We called Marshall about it and they say they do not have a copy of the card (they took one when I was there and the copy I sent in). When they were pressed about it, they "magically" found it in my file. Hopefully they can get this straightened out. This was the worst experience I have ever had in a hospital. Never ever go here. If I was able to give no stars, I would. read more

I unfortunately was hospitalized after a very serious suicide attempt i had to be in the ICU for a few days when i was put on the 2nd floor i was treated like sh## from all the staff , i had a nurse that was abusive and called me evil ,i was having hallucinations from them taking me off all my meds , their was also a older lady next to me who was ignored and constantly in pain absolutely horrific experience go anywhere but their please especially if you have any emotional problems they think your a waste of their time i was so sick and i just needed some comfort and all i got was aids ignoring me and nurses calling me names after they were leaving the room still can hear , i had to fire my nurse she was so bad they do not know what they are doing and the psychiatrists were a joke , they were trying to put me on a medication that i was allergic too , they did nothing for my anxiety and then sent me to a nother horrific hospital all the way in San Jose were their was no treatment for 10 days and no way to get home nice way to treat a depressed ptsd,anxiety suicidal person you all deserve a standing ovation, my mom was taken to the ER for possible TIA she was having problems talking and was confused, they found she had a bladder infection she was treated for it and I noticed she was even more confused the Dr didn't give a crap sent her home , my mom couldn't find the bathroom at home and could not remember anything,I called the paramedics and the head fire man said they are not a taxi service , my mom had a stroke and is now in a nursing home , don't take your lover one to Marshll ER , go to sutter or Davis horrible hospital read more

My 95 year old mother with dementia was brought in by ambulance for pain and difficulty with breathing. They kept her a couple days and then sent her home so weak she could not stand or get up on her own. All she could do was lie down even unable to use a bathroom. I understand they are not a rest home but absolutely no attempt was made on their part to suggest somewhere she could receive the 24 hour care she needs. All they wanted to do was get rid of her. A truly despicable way to treat anyone . They should be fined heavily for the way they treat people. read more

My wife had a heart attack and stroke last year. She sometimes has minor cognitive issues and gets things mixed up. My doctor , Dr. Koble, said my PSA had jumped up suddenly to 4.22 and I should get my prostate checked right away for cancer. My wife called and got a referral and it was a doctor other than Dr. Nellis, who I had seen before about a year ago or so. He refused the appointment because I had seen Dr. Nellis before. She called back and requested an appointment from Dr. Nellis and was told by a VERY RUDE receptionist that Dr. Nellis refuses to see me because we tried to make an appointment with the other doctor and we should just see someone in Folsom!!! First of all....are we not allowed a second opinion ? And that was not even the case? I am sitting here worried about possible prostate cancer and these doctors are acting like little babies????? UPDATE#1: Wow! Dr. Nellis is a real piece of work! You have read my story. All I wanted was to get my prostate checked. My wife made (attempted to make)an appointment with the wrong doctor (not for a second opinion, just a mistake as it appeared the other doctor had an office closer to our home) and that started all this mess.... We have now received a certified letter from his office stating that due to "MY BEHAVIOR" we are banned from all the physicians and practitioners and all of Marshall Urology. REALLY? We had not planned to use them anyway and were willing to let the whole thing go but then this insulting letter? I am not sure what step we will take next but this is so very unacceptable behavior from a "so called professional adult"..... I never spoke to him or his staff. All I did was voice my displeasure to you and a phone call with the director.... UPDATE#2: Well.....thanks in part to Dr. Nellis's ego issues, I have been diagnosed to be in the late stages of a VERY aggressive prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 4+. It may have already spread. Had the good doctor seen me as requested, this could have been caught sooner. Who will take care of my widow if I do not survive this??? read more

My husband was in the hospital for the last 5 days in Room 116. He had great care and i wanted to thank the wonderful staff that cared for him. One aid Rachael was over the top great. All the nurses that helped my husband recover were wonderful. Our case worker was Annie, and what a gem she is. Got all the information I needed to take my husband home. I do not understand these negative reviews either. I have been through the ER several times over the years. The staff here is the best I have seen in most parts of the country. They are capable, compassionate and first rate. Calling people pathetic or uncaring? I had a great experience here. My son was brought in for a broken collarbone. He ended up having surgery the next morning. They even gave us a room with a bed for me and brought me breakfast and lunch along with my sons meal. Everyone was great. I had a wonderful labor and delivery experience here in 2008. I am writing this review now because after delivering children elsewhere since, I now know how lucky I was to be able to come here for one of my baby's births. I was about halfway through my labor when I came in, and was shown to a room immediately. I requested an epidural right away and received one within 30 minutes of asking. The birth went smoothly with no complications, the epidural was not so strong that I had to stay in bed for long. The nurses came in to check on me every 4-6 hours to offer medication for pain. I was sent home with prescriptions for pain meds as well, without even having to ask. I highly recommend this facility for labor and delivery, especially for mothers looking for a medication-friendly, guilt-free birth experience. read more

I am a 34 year old patient who had knee surgery at Marshall. I had my knee cap sawed in half, cartilage removed, and a metal plate and plastic button installed. While my surgeon was excellent, the majority of the nursing staff on med surge/recovery were not. I could hear the nurses complaining in the hall about how I was just in there to get pain medicine. One nurse refused to give me the morphine my surgeon had ordered. She said I didn't need it because I shouldn't be in that much pain anyway! They didn't realize my mother was walking behind them in the hall and she also heard them making rude remarks. I am very disappointed with the experience I had at this hospital. I have had two surgeries here and neither were very pleasant. Had the nurses listened to me, they would have known that due to a bone disease, trigeminal neuralgia, and fibromyalgia, my body is used to taking pain meds. I needed a stronger does to have any effect on the pain. I also have plenty of pain meds at home so I don't need to lose part of my knee to get more! These people need to find jobs where being compassionate, patient, and kind are not necessary job skills. read more

They charged astronomical prices to my health care insurance and once they found it was a car accident they immediately had their snotty lawyer put a lien on my settlement even though they had full authorization. They charged almost $60,000 for a 4 hour out patient surgery to fix a broken wrist. almost 3 times what Mercy general charged for a 3 day stay in the hospital and 3 stent placed in my heart. I would beware of these guys and will never use them again. I will seek out any hospital besides them. Mercy healthcare is more reasonable and they don't sick a snotty lawyer on you!!! This is generous. One star. The physicians assistant (sorry, I don't trust p.a's) was so busy worrying about covering her own ass that I was given the most minimal nearly non help. I'll be driving to Davis or sac for my future emergency room and hospital needs. This so called p.a. checked my breathing, then forgot and was so busy focusing on my tattoos, she checked it again out of forgetfulness, she was distracted, she admitted it!!!. She was looking down my shirt. I didn't give you permission to look down my shirt and stare at my body and tattoos. I feel violated, judged. See an actual doctor. Or go elsewhere. After working with me to increase mobility in my right leg, a Physical Therapist (Paul) at the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians Health clinic referred me for x-ray. Thankfully this led to hip replacement surgery performed by Dr. Beamer, an amazing anesthesiologist, Marshall Surgical Techs,Nurses, Medical Assistants, physical therapists, housekeeping and cafeteria staff. The level of respect, competency and caring was clearly evident at each level of service, not only for me, but family that visited, and my recovery roommate. After care has included phone checkups to determine if I have procedural or recovery questions, assessments and training by nursing staff, as well as a physical therapist. Hospitals and doctors specialize in their fields, but they and all staff at Marshall additionally specialize in high quality patient care focused on the premier recovery of their clients. It behooves all patients to research skills of their doctors and surgeons, but their degrees do not necessarily speak to their Pre and post treatment care. Marshall hospital to my way of thinking after observation and personal experience provides most exceptional care before, during, and after treatment. Words are inadequate to describe my level of satisfaction, pleasant surprise, and heartfelt gratitude. Every task was done with patient wellbeing in mind. I spent about nine days in the hospital, after being admitted for a kidney infection originally, within two day they found out I needed surgery not related to my kidneys. If I didn't have the surgery I would lose any chance of having a baby someday and, the nurses and doctors were incredible. So friendly and truly cared. My son was suffering from a very bad head/sinus cold - terrible cough, sore throat and aches...all week long between Xmas and New Years. Today he woke up with an ear ache. I called at 10 am - the number online, and was directed from their answering service to their receptionist at the hospitals walk in "urgent care/Family medicine" center. I got a 1pm appt, same day, on a SATURDAY! When I arrived, we were the only ones there. We were seen immediately by Jessica Santos (nurse practitioner). She was excellent! She gave my son a thorough exam, asked a lot of questions and listened real well. She was VERY helpful, diagnosed the ear infection, prescribed antibiotics and we were on our way. Entire visit, less than 35 min. They called in our prescription and we left! It was a great experience, as we have had in past, which is seldom. We rarely get sick but when we do they are very attentive!! 5 stars all the way!!! read more

While visiting family in Placerville, I ended up in the emergency room at Marshall Hospital. I was given absolutely wonderful care from the moment I lurched through the doors until I was wheeled back out several hours later. Everyone from the intake person to the RN to the nurse practitioner on duty was kind, competent, efficient and helpful. This was the first time i visited this hospital for an emergency. My truck flipped over and i came here by an ambulance. Both me and my husband was treated here. when we arrived they took us in immediately and started treating us and taking care of us in a second. the staffing was very friendly and helpful when we needed anything. They took tons of test and let us go when they are sure we were okay. i was surprised because the next morning the doctor who treated us actually called us and ask ow we were doing. what kind of doctor take time out of the day to ask how we are doing? it was shocking. over all the hospital did their job and took care of us. read more

The Nurse and Doctors are great. There was a woman dressed in green who was so rude. My mom was have a procedure in her small room and I was waiting outside her room. That woman told me to go wait in the lobby. My mom was scared and I was not going that far away. The thing was is that she was rude about it. Then when I was leaving toward an exit she yelled not that door go that way and pointed. My mom is healthy we do not go there very often . I don't go there because I hate that place. My mom only goes there because of her insurance. They need manners training. read more

Do not contact Marshall medical for anything. If I could leave zero stars I would. After calling endlessly looking for help for irregular and painful bleeding problems as a female, I called marshal medical first and was told they would not take my medi-cal and my best and only chance for finding any sort of help would be to go to the emergency room. I did so, and after an almost six hour visit, after my doctor asked me how long I had been with the same sexual partner, looking at me and suggesting two months, I responded with five years. Not only exhausting was this experience but insulting. I'm sorry that as a young working woman of 24 that I don't have health care. After ultrasounds, Pelvic exams, and being the first person sitting in the ER on a Wednesday night and seeing patients come after me and be taken sooner, I was given a referral back to marshal medical-who I called first- only to speak on the phone with someone who made me feel like a bar person who dialed the wrong number. If your medical staff can't treat people seeking medical help with understanding (never mind kindness) at the very least, you're doing something, everything wrong. Marshall Medical Center operates like the DMV, except the DMV can at least accompany some semblance of a desired outcome along with their judgmental and essentially cruel customer service. read more
