The nursing staff that helped me were truly wonderful and I couldn't have emotionally. Their names are Nayeda and Chelsea. Nayeda wasn't even my nurse but I flagged her down from my bed in the hallway because I had been siting there for hours with no one checking on me (I had a male nurse with a reddish scrub cap on). Thank God Nayeda stoped and started helping me because it turns out I would end up needing two blood transfusion. My male nurse just dismissed my symptoms but Nayeda took them seriously. She was comforting and add some much needed humor, she was a God sent. Chelsea was truly amazing and made me feel at ease when I was scared. She was born to be in this industry. The only negative is I wish the doctors would have been more attentive. I was in the ER about 16 hours and I think I only saw my doctor the last 30 minutes I was there. read more

Extremely negligent staff in the E.D. I was in a autistic neurological crisis and unable to verbalize or advocate for myself after being brought to Marshall's ED involuntarily. I would have never gone there voluntarily because I've heard a lof of terrible stories. Not just from patients, but also staff who used to work there. And now I know first hand, how true these stories are. I had been brought in by ambulance. I begged ER staff to contact my husband. I tried to tell staff multiple times I needed him to explain my medical condition to the doctors because I was not in a state of mind to speak for myself. I know I was disoriented and having trouble speaking, but read my chart notes afterwards, and it was documented that I was begging for my husband, so they did get the message loud and clear, regardless of my state of mind. Instead, when my husband DID show up at Marshall's E.R attempting to advocate for me, whoever the Marshall staff was that saw him turned him away and told him to go home. They did not document his contact information, and did not take any of my medical history from him or document it. I was a nurse myself for over a decade before being diagnosed with a diability, and I understand that sometimes things are so chaotic, you have to turn away visitors, or err on the side of not violating someone's HIPAA rights. However, it is completely unprofessional and irresponsible to fail to obtain someone's medical history from a family member, when that patient is in a crisis and unable to speak for themselves, and when that patient had been Begging staff for their loved one!! Not only that, because this person did not document my husband's phone numbers in my medical chart or tell any of the healthcare staff who were assigned to care for me that my husband had shown up looking for me, I spent nearly 18 hours in a state of complete despondency believing my husband had abandoned me during a medical crisis After discharge, I tried to speak to the Patient Advocate at Marshall about being mistreated for a misdiagnosis for nearly 24 hours. I was upset, and I was trying to give the patient advocate the whole story, but she wasn't interested in hearing the story, and kept yelling my name at me over the phone, so she could interrupt me and say "The person you saw was NOT a Marshall employee" The Marshall patient advocate was completely unhelpful. I wanted to confirm who that person was, and because no one documented my husband's visit, I don't know for sure if it was a Marshall employee, or an El Dorado County employee. I was already traumatized from having my civil rights taken away. It was documented in my chart that I wasn't allowed to have visitors, use the phone, or use the bathroom by myself, but there is no documentation or rationale in my chart as to why my Civil Rights were being violated. When I muttered under my breath how much I hate Marshall to the patient advocate, the patient advocate said "Oh, you hate me? Well, you can just hang up on me and never speak to me again then." So I did hang up on her. That was on Friday 4/19/2024. I ended up filing grievances against both El Dorado and Marshall Hospital since I wasn't able to confirm who it was who did not take my medical history from my husband, or pass on his correct contact information to the staff, or to the night shift when shift changed, or even bothered to tell me or my nightshift nurse that he'd showed up. They transferred me to a psychiatric facility within 8 hours without properly medically clearing me. They never tested my labwork to rule out any other issues that could present as psychosis. I finally saw a REAL doctor at this facility, who agreed that it was inappropriate to ahve an autistic person on a psych unit. The non-Marshall doctor restored my civil rights and let me go home with my husband. I am truly traumatized by experience at Marshall. I have not been able to get a good night's sleep since my experience two weeks ago, because of the nightmares and reliving the horror of begging for help and being treated like a criminal. I would never wish this experience on my worst enemy: feeling like no one believes that you're not "crazy" when you are suffering, and taking away your civil rights without documenting or explaining why. One star for the sitters in charge of watching over me. They were great and treated me like a real person But 0 stars for the hospital itself. Totally unprofessional and negligent an ignorant about how an autism crisis presents in an adult. The "mental health clinician" I interacted with at Marshall was so inappropriate and not an MD, tried to tell me I wasn't autistic, argued with me about my medical and professional history until I snapped. All they had to do was talk to my husband and verify my diagnoses. Now I'm going to be struggling with PTSD symptoms for months, and so unecessarily. I takes 3 months to get a doctor visit and having to go to ER is not up to other hospital standards. I was misdiagnosed at the Marshal ER and it was a serious condition. After being sent home, I was back in ER at Sutter hospital this time who were able to diagnose me and received the treatment I needed. read more

I would have put 0 stars if it were an option. .. I brought my 1 year old baby here because she couldn't breath and her temperature was 102.9. She took a covid test and we were waiting for results. The nurse left the door open so we thought that was so they could keep an eye on my sick baby more... the doctor said she had crup and they gave her a steroid. After that we sat and watched TV waiting for the test to come back.... all of a sudden this blond nurse walked up to our door and said " you realize that baby has a positive covid test" I said "omg no" and she said the door needs to be closed and shut it in my face. I opened it and the other nurse that overheard quickly came over to explain my baby had COVID and how to take card of her. First off.... have a little compassion and empathy when approaching parents with bad news about there baby. Second.... our personal information did not need to be shouted down the hallway.... not ok. I am hoping to get those surveys in the mail so I can make a complaint. read more

I was sick dehydrated it did not take long to be seen they gave me saline salution did some blood work i fell asleep for about hour and when i woke they said i was all done good to go i had on pajama pants shoes a penlton shirt like a jacket .i just walked out and down the street in the poring rain not sure why but my ride came to get me good thing i had my phone i received a copy of bill 14.500 dollars and they keep telling me i oh them 50 bucks and so m e how they took 50 out of my checking account .so they did help me but i beleave thats a lot of money for 1.5 hours of sevice i told them i was having a little fever i just needed some liquid in me i guess the in house lab work cost a lot..i do appreciate there hard work they do for people ..if your having heart problems i highly recommend ucsf in sanfrancisco they are the best my girlfriend had been to marshall 3 times she said she ut ywill never go back the hospital in jackson very nice people but they dont have special equipment in bar area she went sutrer delta 4 times she said they saud there was nothing they coud do for her they messed up her meds marshall also told her there was not much they could do cause her vains were to small sgexwas slowly withering away she had hard time doing anything with heart failure she is doing pretty good now always get a second opinion if was not for her not settling for the norm and not giving up she wiuld not be here today she was a hanfull for them she read and reserched and the heart specialist was telling her this is the best it going to get she had 13 persent of her heart working 5 monts earlyer she 30 persent in there eyes she was not worth helping thats what she felt like there are a lot of good people who work there it seem to me that they calculate how much for a operation your age stuff stuff like that and make a call if its going to be worth it..ut serms big corps all .a out the money. I don't usually make reviews but I feel like it needs to be said in order to help other parents and their young baby boys. My son was 1 year old brought him in for a very high fever, mind you this is my first child so of course I took him to the ER. They said they needed a urine sample I said okay And they told me to take down his pants so I did, and the doctor proceeded to try and PULL his 4skin back on his uncircumcised penis, I thought that a doctor would understand that you were not supposed to pull back foreskin on a small child. It won't even go back until they're at least five years old. It is connected to their body still I wasn't going to post until my friend had a very similar experience with her uncircumcised son, they tried to pull his skin back, which is extremely painful especially at this age. She is a new mom as well and didn't know what else to do. I really think that the doctors here need to be educated on uncircumcised penises small children it's just horrific my son and others have gone through such a horrific time getting their skin ripped away from their other skin. Not impressed. Took a family member to emergency due to flu-like symptoms and a terrible cough. It was not busy when we got there. The check-in process was relatively quick. We were told it would be 30-45 minutes until they would be seen. Over 2 hours later they were still waiting. When we inquired about the delay the intake person was dismissive and rude. I went to the emergency room because I had the worst headache of my life, severe pressure in my left eye, and I couldn't see very well at it. They sent me home and told me to take two Advil didn't even treat the headache at all. I told me they sent me home right then with the headache the pain I was in I probably to killing myself and the doctor said you got to do what you Gotta do. Luckily, I called Cedar Eye Center in the next day and they did emergency surgery I was able to save the itself, but I have no vision in it now. read more

Cut my finger pretty bad on a new set of knives. Went to the emergency room. Took 5 hours to get 5 stitches. They were not that busy. They just kept wanting me to get an X-ray - which I didn't need. Unfortunately yet another unsatisfactory experience in dealing with the Marshall medical group, who I have dealt with now in some capacity for over 20 years. Where does Marshall get these so called "Best Regional Hospital " awards. These must be self proclaimed as they continue to fall well short of peers such as Sutter and Mercy/Dignity Health. My GP is barely adequate at best, but does perform the basic preventive care, but outside of a basic physical has missed a number of diagnoses over the years. I have not found a Specialist within the group that I would consider adequate and effective and have had to go outside of Marshall for surgeries & advanced care. This includes Orthopedics, Urology and PT, ( a joke compared to professional PT organizations such as Pulse) The only exception being Dr. Beamer in Orthopedics who performed a previous minor trigger finger surgery repair and made a previous diagnosis of a Sports Hernia that every other Marshall physician took months of misdiagnosis. Note Dr. Beamer is leaving Marshall on May 15th. My recent encounter emerged as I had endeavored to see Dr. Beamer to deal with a complaint and was asked to see his PA. This was a mistake as I doubt that Dr. Beamer is even aware of my current complaint. Frankly, I would have gone to Sutter had I known that Beamer would not be engaging with my case. Being pushed off to a PA not acceptable as full disclosure should be provided, as I was looking for Dr. Beamer and was led to believe that the visit with PA was only supposed to be initial consultation. The biggest problem with Marshall is the inefficient administrative staff process and the culture of the organization. " The cart is pulling the horse". This is a chronic problem throughout the organization. For simply providing blood work you spend more time on checking in and the process of collecting insurance card information. ( My insurance has not changed in 20 years and there are more people checking you in than actual technicians available to draw blood) This is gravely inefficient and is the same throughout the Marshall network. The administrative staff are pleasant enough but are a hinderance and don't lend themselves to a positive patient experience. Systems are antiquated and communication for follow up on referrals and insurance approvals are handled in the same manner, slow with little to no follow up with patient. Even utilizing Marshall message system is I suppose better than waiting extended long periods trying to speak to someone on the phone about your case. After writing about a follow up for a procedure requiring insurance approval, 12 days later I am still waiting without any response. Does anyone care that I have been in pain for 3 months now. The systems have improved over the years but why would you buy UC Davis's old outdated system and not a new system such as Workday that would be a better investment and return on investment as you could probably reduce your problem and expensed by cutting 50% of your Administration staff, streamlining the process, and Eliminating one of your major problem areas. Would love to have a competent medical facility in the area where I live, but from the ER which I have also previously experienced to my GP to specialists, my experience has been that this is a sub standard organization and would recommend you drive or have your ambulance take you down the hill further if you are searching for quality care. People deserve better here in El Dorado county. read more

Already contacted Patient Advocate and filed a complaint. I should have realized it the first time when they sent my husband home with a broken hip and was told to bring him back if anything got worse. Brought him back and was sent him home a second time and unable to walk or put any weight on his leg no additional x-rays. Third time he was admitted for a possible broken hip, the next morning ER called and said bring your husband back in (he was already admitted)! Orthopedic doctor finally looked at the 1 and only X-ray and said definitely a broken hip and will require surgery. This was the ER visits. Since the surgery he has had 3 dislocations, blood clot, 2 units of blood and a UTI. So the actual hospital experience has been no different. After everything that has happened (he's still in the hospital) now they are concerned about all the mishaps. It's upsetting, worrisome, frustrating, and exhausting, also very sad since they are the only game in town. read more

We recently switched from a different insurance carrier that people love to hate to another carrier when I got my new job. I chose Marshall because it's closer to where we live and I hate to say it but after seeing the reviews on Marshall Hospital, the ER department, I was a little worried about my first experience. I know that some people just really love to hand out one star reviews like candy on Halloween, but I was still worried. I went in today with super high blood pressure and multiple symptoms and with a family history of heart issues. I was really concerned... let me just say that the staff in the ER from the receptionist to Tyler-the ER nurse, Able and Brendan the CAT imaging staff, Dr. Skratt and nurse Dianna... everybody was super amazing! They absolutely ticked all the boxes for the best care, bedside manner, listening, understanding AND communicating! I highly highly recommend this amazing local hospital read more

Well, let's see...brought a friend here at 5pm Monday for a mental health crisis. He was taken back right away, given a new outfit, and had his personal property taken. They called me back to be with him once he was in a room. Blood was taken, vitals checked, and we were told that the crisis person would be in to talk with us. Well, it's now 11am Tuesday and clearly the crisis person does not view this as a crisis, because nobody has come in to see the patient. I ask about status and get the run-around. The only person worth anything so far is one nurse named, Larry. Everyone else has been completely useless. When someone is admitted to the hospital in a mental health crisis and you leave them in a room for 17 hours...you are creating a worse crisis!!!! Completely incompetent. I just got home from a 6 hr. trip to Marshall ER in Placerville, CA. I want to thank each and every staff member for the attentive and caring treatment I received. After a fall, I received 2 cat scans, and 4 shots to address pain, dizziness, nausea. I don't know why the ratings are so low, I had a great experience at this E.R. from start to finish. From all the nurses to the doctor that helped me. Didn't get to the bottom of my issue because I think it's much more complicated and they recommend I see a specialist. The nurses were all very funny and sweet and helpful(from the ultra sound tech to the CT scan tech to the primary nurses checking in on me). If I have another emergency I'll definitely want these guys in my corner. If any of the people who helped me sees this, thank you so much for your help, understanding and sense of humor. read more

When you walk in the door, if you are lucky enough to get by all the drug seeking patients and the tweeters that need a norcam shot so they don't die, you will get into the emergency room. At first glace it does not look so bad, but in my experience they have almost killed my father in law, my mother in law, my son, me, and you are probably next. I think that is a work fur-low project, for all of the doctors and nurses got in trouble and has their medical license suspended. When you are in the ER bed they usually take about two hours to check in on you, a patient will die on either side of the curtain, and they will discharge you before your vitals are stable. They usher you out of the door so quickly that you don't even realize, until you get in your car, that you will need to go to another hospital for proper treatment. This hospital reminds me of the song "Hotel California", you check in but never check out. I think that the doctors and nurses win a grand prize if they kill the most patients within the month. However, this is the perfect hospital to bring someone to if they have a large life insurance policy and you are the named beneficiary. Suggestions for better hospitals: Any third world country, Canadian socialized medicine that takes 30 days to see a doctor, etc. If you are pregnant and racing to deliver your child head towards Sacramento, who wants El Dorado County to be shown on your Childs brith certificate. Only go here if you are going to hand them a sepia for a lawsuit, or to get the remains of your loved ones that they have killed. I would give this hospital and ER 0 stars if I could but YELP does not allow me to. So my one star is actually a -1. read more

They spent a lot of $$ and upgraded the place. It looks very nice. Maybe they need to spend some $$ on training staff to have compassion and empathy. They might also want to have the nurses learn more about different medical problems. If your family member has any kind of psychiatric diagnosis, don't take them to this ED. Their medical conditions will be ignored based on that diagnosis. That does include medical problems that are making the psych issues worse. Psych issues are medical issues, just manifest differently. Be aware they will also ignore valid medication allergies and give those anyways "because nobody is allergic to...." if your family member has severe burns, take them to UC Davis. Even if cleared by this ED. Just a couple of the issues I've watched. read more

At the absolutely worst hospital on planet earth. Good ol Marshall hospital. Poor Brandees, my gf, been im agonizing stomach since 11 this morning. Been here since 1:00pm and still waiting its 6:03. Shes been non stop crying and keeled over vomiting bile and the nurse Kimberly is such a stuck up b word that seems very unconvinced by her wailing of pain and her throw up. My spouse came in via ambulance. Extremely high blood pressure, dizzy, lightheaded. They hooked him to a monitor. Turned it off 20 minutes later for him to urinate. Never turned it back on. I asked a nurse to turn the monitor back on since that is what he came in for. She tried to turn it on but clearly didn't know how to operate the machine. A patient called the nurse station - one nurse says "this person has called 3 times now". The charge nurse gets on the line, gives the person on the phone the once over in a not very polite manner. Hangs up and begins laughing about how the person on the line said they were going to go Kaiser. Then all the nurses begin laughing cracking jokes about the person and them going to Kaiser. Then the comments about Kaiser begin. All said and done it was poor professionalism. It was poor bed side manner and sadly it was a terrible visit for my husband. At this point, we have been here for over 3 hours and he hasn't even seen a doctor yet. I work for Kaiser. I am disappointed as a medical professional. And it sickens me that this place is filled with employees that aren't treating patients they way they should be. read more

We brought my 5 year old son in who just had a seizure, turned blue and stopped breathing and a very high temp. He was severely dehydrated and very sick. They hooked up fluids and we sat in a room for hours with no one checking on us. I asked the nurse (who was a total B) to check his temp so he wouldn't seize again. She did a couple of times and wasn't looking when she did, his mouth was open and said "it's only 100, like I'm totally over reacting and annoying her. Then we realized the fluid was draining into the bed and he didn't even get 1/3 if it she did nothing about it and then didn't come back for another 1.5 hours. During this time his heart rate was spiking to 165 and setting off the alarm, to which she said is normal. They then discharged us. At this point my husband is pissed. The nurse is so angry that my husband complained she didn't even have compassion for a sick 5 year old and ripped out his iv very rough and shoved the papers at me with attitude. We left got home and his temp was 103, which is what I thought when I was there (a mother always knows) We immediately drive to UC Davis. They take us seriously and take his temp and at this point it is 103.9 with popsicles and both meds. They ran every test on him checking for appendix, etc. and he was severely dehydrated, with extreme low levels of sugar, etc. The doc at UC Davis was amazing he sat with us and made us feel conforted, they were sweet to our son and gave him stickers and movies, they gave him 5 bags of fluids and they waited till he was stable before discharge! If we would have not been good parents and just listened to Marshall it could have been fatal. Please don't go here unless you have no choice, and transfer to a new hospital if you can. read more

Wow, unless you have a life threatening emergency, DRIVE TO A DIFFERENT HOSPITAL. I had a massive bump that appeared right next to my eye and my face was completely swollen. UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR PROBLEM IS, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. To begin with, I called to find out the wait and they said the waiting room was empty so I headed down. I waited almost 45 minutes although there was only one person ahead of me. Not a huge wait, especially since it's an emergency room. However, I would hate to see what the wait would be if they were busy! Then, the most IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW is that the doctor completely MISDIAGNOSED ME. Although I really didn't have the symptoms of shingles, when I pushed back and told him that the rest of the bumps were acne that I've had for years, he disagreed and continued to reiterate that it was shingles. The nurse came in to discharge, I asked him if he thought it was that, and he immediately answered no. After going to a dermatologist the next day, he explained it was actually just a very large inflamed pimple, and because it was positioned where it was, it caused my eyes to have that reaction. Antibiotics and a steroid shot later, I was good to go! read more
