We were on vacation when suddenly I came down with pink eye. We needed immediate treatment and the only thing open on this Easter Sunday was this clinic. We registered and were able to be seen within minutes, the physicians assistant was very informative. Did a great job doing the assessment. They even knew which pharmacy was open that day and the only one open was a Safeway pharmacy. We were very impressed that all of my medical records from Southern California were immediately available for the doctor due to the advanced technology that they use. read more

My experience here recently was top notch. Reception was efficient and friendly. I waited less than five minutes and frm the Med Assistant to Kara PA and Dr E (sorry forgot last name) I recd excellent, professional and thoughtful care. Their diagnosis and treatment was explained patiently and thoroughly, plus follow up outside care was recommended and recd asap (!). The second Drs additional dx agreed w Urgent Cares initial findings plus he added an explanation of why Urgent Care referred me out. I absolutely supported the Drs there at Urgent Care when they suggested an additional opinion by a specialist. As a medical professional myself I realize thts what Urgent Care is all about; An excellent public service available to those in need of spot on treatment but also as professional advisors in case another opinion is needed. I came in from a campng trip with a tick bite and identifiable bullseye at 5:20 (they close shop usually at 5:30) and was turned around and told to come back at 8 in the morning because they'd "had a long day". Il start this review by stating that Ive never left anything less than 5 star for any review I've ever left on Yelp. I also manage an office with 3 doctors in the medical field, therefore this review should account for something. Customer service in this environment is EVERYTHING- as typically people are coming in with an ailment, emergency, etc. To start, the receptionist at this office needs a complete attitude adjustment. Specifically, the one that sits to the right. Ironically, she is not even the receptionist that checked me in, however hearing her engage with patients over the phone was extremely disheartening. The attitude & disrespectful tone she expressed was so concerning I couldn't help but sit in the waiting area in disbelief. She then proceeded to eat her food off of a full plate at the front office -with people in the waiting room. This is absolutely classless and unprofessional. On our way out of the appointment, we had a few questions regarding our prescription/where to go from there, and the same receptionist responded in the same condescending fashion as she did with her phone calls. I could also add a lot more to this review, however, I am not that individual. Therefore, my biggest suggestion goes out to the owner & manager of this clinic: teach your staff members customer service & manners. The lasting impression you leave on people is everything. I was trafficked as a minor and had gone into this facility and the hospital a total of 38 times over 3 years for strep throat 13 times, urinary infections, unable to urinate 14 times and more and had mentioned to the doctors I was living in a hotel room, sometimes with my "boss" and my home address was about 100 miles away from Tahoe and they never once thought to question my living situation, involve a psychiatrist, a social worker and failed as mandated reporters to report anything. This hospital DOES NOT CARE. This place lacks empathy, experience and is only in business because it's the ONLY PLACE TO GO in Tahoe. Think of how many teenagers have come in here who are being ignored after showing several red flags indicating sexual abuse. You should be ashamed of yourselves Barton. DO BETTER! read more

The people at Barton Urgent Care were lovely, but despite having truly great insurance, my daughter's 10-minute visit ended up costing $400 for overpriced labwork ($949 for a routine UTI culture) that was way beyond what insurance was willing to compensate. Seems like resort town price-gouging to me; consider going elsewhere if you can. read more

Extremely frustrated , first visit to Barton Urgent Care , a health center needs to be a much more welcoming environment. When you are sick with the Flu , it is really not the best situation to make a lengthy walking trip and than to arrive and find the health center very unwelcoming. I will still gives the health center 4 stars as it appears to be a great health center , just a few things need to change to make it more welcoming - it saddens me I was not able to get treated there , I will continue to try over the counter hotel care and hope for the best read more

This place is an interesting place. Came in here for a simple procedure. There is no one here. I waited over an 1hr and a half as people went before me. People are coming in here for minor things and are going ahead of me. The nurses are in the back just laughing and giggling at jokes. This place is a damn joke. Just go to the one on California side. Very disappointed. I was referred here by the orthopedic center at Barton Medical because their urgent care wasn't open. I have a fractured patella and torn quadricep. Waited a very long time, Doctor had little to no bedside manners, had an X-ray and said he wasn't an orthopedic dr and I needed to be seen by them. Asked me what kind of meds I wanted (I wasn't there to get meds), and sent me on my way. One would think that an urgent care, surrounded by ski resorts would be more equipped. In the three hours I wasted today I could have and should have, driven home to see someone who was willing to help. Maybe try the ER. read more

This is the WORST medical attention I've received. A simple UTI has now turned into a bladder infection due to Barton/Warren Withers negliglence. Go to Reno if you have an issue. Here's my story: I had met with Dr. Warren Withers on 1/22 due to pain in my urethra. I told him it was likely a bacterial infection, possibly a UTI. He looked me over and told me it isn't an STD, which I wasn't concerned about. I reiterated that the symptoms are of a bacterial infection (hot urine, pain in shaft and head, inflammation, itchy urethra, chills). I also told him that I was leaving the country to Thailand for 2 weeks and that this was urgent. Dr. Withers then said Thailand has great medical care as he handed me an off brand sample size of Neosporin, an unrelated remedy compared to my clear bacterial infection symptoms. He also refused to run a urine test. It is now 2/9 and my symptoms are worse, possibly a bladder infection. Dr. Warren Withers needs to be fired for negliglence. read more

Probably the best doctor experience we have ever had! We were visiting from out of state, and my son had an ear infection. The doctor confirmed and ordered ear drops. She called me later in the evening to tell me she was still thinking about my son and wanted to prescribe additional medicine. That is when I had told her the local drug stores could not get the ear drops before we were headed out of Tahoe to go to our next city. Her and her nurse went way more than expected. They called local pharmacies to check in the medicine availability and even called the pharmacy that is at our next small town and was able to get a medicine for my son. I have never had this kind of service from any doctor, and we are not even patients nor would probably ever be back. First class!! read more

I asked if my health insurance is accepted because I got Blue cross and Kaiser, she told me they will bill them and that's the only time I will know if it is covered or not. Wonderful experience! My son in law was experiencing severe ear pain as a result of an infection and the altitude. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful, and my son in law related that the nurse and physician treating him were very caring and experienced and the treatment resulted in a major improvement in his pain level. I took my mom here A couple years ago as she was feeling sick and disoriented. Immediately upon walking in the door, the attendant knew there was a sense of urgency to treat her and stopped everything she was doing to help her. Within a couple of minutes, a nurse determined that she was incredibly sick and suggested that I take her to emergency. That turned out to be a life-saving decision. If they had not made that suggestion, it's unlikely my mom would be here today. The fact that they were humble and quickly able to determine that her illness was beyond their scope of treatment is admirable. 12/31/18 @ 1455 (2:55) Unfortunately I have severe cold and flu symptoms and just stopped by here where they told me that they were closed for the day even though I called earlier today and they told me that they were open until 1500 (3:00pm). This used to be a nice urgent care that actually cared for sick people. Now they send sick people out the door who waited in traffic to get there. I will never be back. I detest this place. Now my options are incredibly limited due to the holiday. I guess I will go spend a fortune in the emergency room and while I sit here and wait in traffic again. read more

I got a phone call yesterday from a lady at this Barton location regarding my appointment on I believe July 12th. She told me they needed to see my insurance card in person to scan since although I wrote down the information and gave it to someone at the desk the day of my appointment, they needed an actual copy of it. I asked her if it were okay for me to come in tomorrow and she said that's fine - she would put my chart aside. I drove 25 minutes this morning around 11 and told the lady at the front desk what the situation was and when I handed her my insurance card she told me it was too late and they couldn't accept it. I would need to call customer service. I told her someone called me yesterday and wanted me to come in and she seemed completely clueless. Since I drove the 25 minutes I figured I would try to make my visit at least somewhat productive so I decided to ask to could see a doctor regarding a medical issue I had wanted to get checked out. I told her what it was and she told me to see my primary physician. I told her I just moved and don't have one yet. I asked for a recommendation and she told me to just google doctors around me. This was incredibly frustrating especially since the waiting room was ENTIRELY empty. It was just me. To drive there and have her not only be no help to me with the insurance information I was told to do but also TURN ME AWAY from SEEING A DOCTOR, I will never go again. If I could rate 0 stars I would. I don't know if this lady was just having a bad day or what but it was not okay for her to decline helping me with anything. Crappy service through and through. **I am updating this because I would like to add one more thing. my mother just called the same Barton to ask them about the lady turning me away and she entirely denied it. I'm almost positive the lady that answered was the same lady who I saw at the front desk. She said she never turned anyone away. This makes them seem even worse - to lie about it. The team at Barton Urgent Care is great. Even with short staffing because of Covid, these folks are really doing their best to take care of their patients. I came in on a Monday afternoon and was seen pretty quickly. Anne(?) at the front desk is super friendly. Rosa, the medical assistant, also very nice and has a background in orthopedic medicine. Lynn in imagery went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of, even checking in on me and bringing me crackers and juice while I was waiting. Dr. Ewald is knowledgeable and has a background in sports medicine so if you're coming off of an injury from Heavenly, you'll be in good hands. read more

Updating to 1 star. We did end up coming here later in the day, and my experience was beyond awful. I called before coming in to triple check that 1) they do IV fluids, and 2) what their current wait is. I was assured that they could an IV and was told to come on in. This was at 4:30pm. We were staying just around the corner, so we were there in minutes. I got checked in, waited ~45min before having vitals taken, and then the nurse practitioner, Patricia, came in. She could not have been more cold. She simply stared at me and scolded us for coming, acting like we were idiots. After all that waiting, all the paperwork, the vitals workup, I was sent to the ER because she refused to help me. She said they were closing and told us to get out. My boyfriend asked if she could at least notify the ER that we're on our way so they could expedite some of the process - I was truly on my last legs at this point, having been throwing up since midnight and was severely dehydrated. Nothing. How someone like her ends up in the medical practice is beyond me. This is a role with human interaction which requires empathy... The girl who took my vitals was very kind, but the rest of the experience was a trainwreck. read more

Took my son in with flu symptoms. Nurse was nice but got my son throwing up from trying to swab. Doctor came in and said it's likely the flu but can treat with tamiflu but not likely to help. Said the test can't rule it out. So then why do they bother? My son was spitting into a bag while doc was talking to me and he asked to stop. It was very rude. My kid was there suffering and was spitting because he just got done throwing up thanks to them. Many other urgent care options. Try a different one. read more

So grateful for this urgent care!! Drove up to Tahoe two days ago to celebrate my son's birthday. As soon as we ascended up the mountain I began to feel a painful throb in what first seemed to be a tooth. The pain continued to worsen and spread across the right side of my face. By last night - I was a mess, the pain was unbearable & I was in tears, despite popping Advil like they were skittles. I had two choices - go to the ER (NO! I'm an ER Nurse back home & I try to practice what I preach & use the ER for emergencies only!) or - 2nd choice - suffer through the night and take my chances with an Urgent Care in the morning. It was a rough night - but I'm glad I waited. Got to the office about 15 minutes before opening, only one other couple in line. At 8:00 we were let in and registered and I was seeing an MD in no time and out the door with prescriptions in less than an hour. The staff were friendly and empathetic to my pain. Dr. Michelson was courteous and patient during my exam, even though I was having a difficult time relaying my symptoms due to the pain & lack of sleep. Thank you for being understanding! Anyway, one dose of steroids, a dose of pain medication & 2 doses of antibiotics and I already feel SO much better!! Was able to get a much needed extended nap & then enjoy Tahoe with my family this evening! I'm feeling pretty hopeful that my pain will remain minimal & I can enjoy the last two days of my trip. Worst medical care 0 stars! Took a family member and was denied medical attention after walking in the door. Never saw a doctor, evaluated, no medical history taken, vitals etc. Nurse took temp and said they would not see the patient and was told to go to the ER because they probably had pneumonia. She didn't want to allow them to cool off even after explaining that they were sitting in the sun in the tahoe heat prior to screening. Clearly they prefer to not evaluate and treat patients that come to them for help regardless of chief complaint. Never have I ever seen a patient denied medical treatment from a facility that is designated to evaluate and treat people. Nor have I seen someone diagnose without any evaluation. Also was told they don't see patients after 1715 yet they close at 1800. After reading other comments it seems that the so called medical professionals put more lives in danger than treat and heal. I would never trust the medical advice of this facility especially the nurse whom didn't properly evaluate her patient. Why have an urgent care if you don't care to treat those who walk through your door looking for help. It is your job and legal obligation. Shame. Barton please do not respond with an automated message about the experience we had. It would just further show your lack of care for your patients. Reference EMTALA. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. My 16 year old daughter could barely walk from being so dizzy, had a really bad headache, no appetite, and such poor circulation that you could see the purple veins in her legs when we arrived at the urgent care this morning. We called the number on the door since it was locked and waited on hold until it was our turn. We described the symptoms she was having and were told to hang up and call the COVID hotline. We told them her primary care told us to go to urgent care and have a glucose test done and could a doctor see her. We were told they could only put us through to the Covid hotline. So we decided to leave and find an ER. Thank God we did because she ended up having extremely high blood sugar and she was transferred to the Pediatric ICU unit to bring it down and treat her. We didn't even know she was diabetic until this visit. Shame on this urgent care and the doctors not willing to even look at her. This could have turned out with a much worse outcome had we not insisted she did not have Covid. (They tested for Covid at the ER and it was negative and her chest X-ray was clear as well) read more

With any urgent care, there might be a slight wait which is totally understandable. Dr. Janet Gooddall/Goodwall (?) was incredibly nice and patience. She advised me on everything that was going on, why she was doing what she was doing, bedside manners were great 5/5. Besides the wait, the reason for only 4 stars was when I was about to pick up my prescriptions the day of, the pharmacy/cist at Safeway told me that the doctor canceled my prescription. It was just a pain to return today, have the situation resolved, but all in all 4/5 stars. read more

We came to Lake Tahoe for our summer vacation....sure enough our children start feeling sick so we took them into Barton's Urgent Care. We just wanted peace of mind it was nothing serious and or Covid of course! The girls at the front desk were awesome! Because of their symptoms we opted to come back to our room. The receptionists were very accommodating and called us when we were next because they knew we were from out of town. Once we arrived, their NP made such a thorough assessment on our boys. Strep test, mono test And covid test. She listened to our concerns and after her assessment and diagnosis sent us on our way! I have to say that everyone here at this urgent care from the front desk, to the MA, and Np were so amazing! I struggled with the rating on this one, wanting to give five stars to the nurse / nurse practitioner we saw, and zero stars to the non-nurse at the front desk. We went to the pediatric office at the center for a wellness check. Being new patients, we arrived early (per their request) to fill out paperwork. The nurse at the front desk was really friendly and, for lack of better description, totally on her game. She had our paperwork waiting for us, and made copies of the insurance card / immunization record before I had a chance to sit down. Efficiency for the win! The *other* chick, however? Is a total waste of space. She was texting away on her cell when I came up to return my paperwork, and I had to say "Excuse Me" TWICE before she looked up. I had my paperwork in front of her, yet still had to say, "We've finished filling out our daughter's information." and then, after a few seconds of vacant staring on her end, continued with, "Should I wait for the nurse to come back to turn this in?" before she got herself together and took the paperwork. I saw another set of blank forms with our names on them sitting right in front of her, but figured they were for the nurse / doctor to fill out. It wasn't until I sat back down that Tweedle Dee called me back, saying I needed to fill those out too. Augh. The Nurse Practitioner we saw was a doll - really good with our daughter, and really good at helping organize my scattered thoughts re: how many words kiddo's saying, etc. She waited for us to get our kiddo's old medical records faxed up from her previous pediatrician which definitely extended our appointment time, yet she never seemed rushed or flustered with us. Will definitely be back to see her again. Hopefully next time we won't have to deal with the non-nurse at the front desk.
