This place has everything. They have the full line of Proluxe products and Modern Masters too. The friendly counter people know where everything is also. They tend to be a little pricier than other paint stores but, you don't have to go to 3 different places to get what you need. I needed some hard to find gold metallic paint. And not just a small jar or spray can but a gallon or more. Apparently this is rather hard to find unless it is special ordered. Modern Masters suggested some local paint stores including Mark's Paint Store. They had a very good selection of Modern Masters paint's and color pallets to choose from. Prices were on par with the rest for this particular specialty paint. I looked around to see they carry a good amount of high end paint and supplies too. The guys working there are also very helpful. On separate occasions they helped me out with choosing the right type of paint and fully explained the challenges of metallic paint and how to get the most out it. This is a business that cares for the customer! The store sells all that you need for your painting jobs, and the store associates are very helpful and courteous. They found me the right paints and their prices are not high. The store itself is really interesting - they have all kinds of decorations on the walls...I couldn't figure out what those are, but those plaques seemed from all over the nation - and kinda old...either way, interesting to see, while you wait for your paint to be mixed - not too long - 5 min. a little more than ten years ago when my sister and I painted her entire house, we bought EVERYthing from Marks and loved them... however, things have changed... I have painted/helped paint three rooms in the past three months... for each room we went to Mark's and found their service has gone down the tubes. On each occasion, the two guys who sit behind the counter look at me as though I'm disturbing whatever important thing they are doing on their computer. Today was the last straw... I needed two samples mixed... they said 15-20 mins. It took a half-hour AND they didn't speak to me otherwise. However, when a guy came in who was a contractor of some sort, they were all smiles and cheers.... I was directed towards Marks Paint to get some Modern Masters Metallic Paint. I had been misled by another company and after speaking with the manufactuerer they pointed me towards Marks. I am not a painter or an artist, just a guy who ends up way in over his head with his creative remodeling projects. The store is impeccably clean and they have everything you need to paint anything you want. Flourescents, metallics, indoor, outdoor, you name it. While the staff was clearly amused by lack of paint knowledge or skill, while chuckling at my novice questions they were extremely helpful and got me pointed in the right direction. It was a great shopping experience (been there twice this past week, going again tomorrow) I would definitely recommend them for you painting projects. read more

I'm updating my review. I was lazy and since this store is closer than my trusty Catalina I made the mistake and went there since I only needed a paint sample and I knew exactly what I wanted (a particular color + 25% darker). I got the normal no-smiles customer service, got my paint, and went home to sample it on my wall. Whoa. It was a crazy color - nothing near what I expected. So I went to Catalina Paints and gave the guy the original color and the color Mark's Paint Store provided. He examined the specs, looked up the color specifications again, even painted them on cardboard and explained that not only was it wrong but they must have known they screwed up because they added additional stuff to the formulation to compensate. Not only was it a whack color but he estimated that it was at least 50% darker. So then he asks knowingly Mark's Paint huh? How was the customer service? Apparently Catalina gets quite a bit of customers after they venture into Mark's Paints. I won't make the mistake of going there again. Ok, abysmal customer service, but at least be good at what you do. read more

What an amazing place! First of all, it's a visual feast of Hollywood history. I took my Girl Scouts in to see if we could get a little paint donated for our Silver Award project. We were hoping to leave with a few little quarts. Instead, Greg sent us off with a specially mixed gallon and a box full of quarts! We could not believe the kindness and generosity. I just called this store and had HORRENDOUS customer service by two different people, one supposedly the owner. I have a color on my computer that I want to paint my house. I called them to find out the best way to get it from my computer into an actual paint color. After arguing with these guys for ten minutes, I finally had to hang up and tell them that I was going to go in and leave them a bad review on yelp. Basically I asked them why, if Home Depot can match almost any color from something you bring in (a piece of paper, wallpaper, paint chip, fabric), why THEY can't do the same. Their answer... "Go to Home Depot." The reason I didn't go to Home Depot to begin with was because they didn't have those designer fan books with all the colors and I had already been there and none of their pre-made paint chips came close to the color I want. I thought if I called a real paint store, I'd get some good customer service, not arguments. Oh, when I finally got to the owner, I told him that I thought the first guy was rude and out of line. His response...not "My apologies..." it was, "I heard the whole thing and didn't think he was out of line." I said, "So you were listening in on the conversation and heard my side of it too?" He says, "No, I just was listening in the room." I said, "Well, then you didn't hear the whole conversation, did you?" read more

Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever received from a specialty store. I bought a very expensive (in my opinion) paint and ask if it would do the job in 1 coat like a paint/primer combo - he told me it was a gimmick. OK, so I paint - and not much do I need another coat!! So I go back today, a day later, to get another $45 gal of paint. I love this place and have been going there since the early 2000's when I worked as a scenic artist for the film and television industry Now, 15 years later my work has changed (I provide color consultation services, you can find me on Yelp as Custom Color and Art or visit www.customcolorandart.com) but my need for technical advice hasn't. Today I went in with a shopping list of items I needed for a commission I am working on. I had a bunch of questions about the technical feasibility​ of combining materials in an unconventional way. Greg helped me, was calm and patient about my questions ranging from combining crushed walnut with gesso, working with oil pastels and the inherent problems of fixing oil pastels with a sealant. He walked me through all my options paying attention to the economic aspect of doing it one way versus another. I think we are lucky to have Mark's Paint and their knowledgeable​ sales peeps, like Greg, on our doorstep here in L.A. there are just some things that you can't figure out by reading a product's technical specifications online. read more

I wasn't exactly sure how much I needed so I was asking for a bit of help/advice. I had the plans and square footage so you think he would have been able to help me out a little bit... nope. WOWZA what a paint store! Everything you need and more! The customer service is excellent, both Ray and Rich helped me tremendously with my remodeling needs, paint, samples, tools and especially my hardwood flooring stain! They went over and above to help me pick stains that would enable me to get a specific "look", recommended mixing two colors together and using a specific brand of stain to achieve my goals! Their knowledge and expertise is exceptional! They also gave me referrals for other needs regarding my fireplace issues. I couldn't recommend this paint store enough, I've been going there for 20 plus years now and always receive exceptional service, knowledge and never have to worry about the quality of the products they offer! 10 minutes to closing I enter the store needing 4 gallons of paint. Two of which are plain white. They say they cannot get it to me because they are about to close. Customer service is horrible! They would rather make sure they close on time than service their customers. I will never again come here or recommend anyone else. Sad. I raced across town to try to get here in time but their 5pm closing is simply ridiculous! How they stay in business is beyond me. read more

I went to Mark's a couple of months ago to match a color for a client. I'm a designer and one of my clients wanted me to match some paint to a piece of magenta fabric she had for a dining room. I asked the guy at the counter which brand of paint might be best for matching & he looked at me blankly & said he didn't know & called Mark over for assistance. Mark got up from his chair, looking annoyed. He glanced at the fabric and smirked and said, "None of the brands". Then he said, "Maybe you could find a fingernail polish to match that." And he walked back to his desk. My jaw dropped open. I was shocked. Real snotty attitude and I wondered if that response should be taken as a gay slur. I left Mark's & went to the Do It Center in Burbank. The very courteous guy in the paint department looked at the fabric & had the perfect match in about 5 MINUTES! Mark was really assinine. I have 7 large remodelling projects going on. If he had been courteous and shown some interest to help with this match, I would have used his store for all these projects. I will never go back to Mark's. That kind of attitude & in this economy? Apparently he's not interested in gaining customers. read more

Save your time and skip this store if you are looking for paint and need any semblance of help. First, they keep erratic hours, closing at times even when they hold themselves out as being open. In fact, it was not until our third attempt (a Saturday at 12:45) that we were able to actually go in the store. We walked in and were the only customers. There were three men behind the counter, all of whom said nothing to us - no " can we help you?" We were looking for paint colors and they merely nodded in the direction of their color sheets, not one made any attempt to come out from behind the counter to talk to us or see if we needed help. However, they did make it a point to announce that they were closing in 15 minutes (at 1pm- remember what I said about their great hours?). We started looking at samples and they had sample bottles for purchase and we couldn't find the one we liked, so we asked if they had more. Not one of the three gentleman walked over to help us to see if the color actually was there among their samples. Instead they told us they would make a sample pint for us for twice the price of the pre-made samples. Finally, one of the three guys decided to come out from behind the counter to the paint sample area we were at, but it wasnt to help us- rather, it was to unplug the display lights and tell us they were closing. We were in the process of gathering samples to paint the exterior of our house and our guest house, and explained this was our third attempt to come to the store, and we'd appreciate five additional minutes to gather samples, particularly since the end result was likely to be a purchase for more than a thousand dollars of paint. Unbelievably, the guy responded, "no offense, but you should get here earlier." At 1pm. On a Saturday. Then he begrudgingly agreed. At that point we left all the samples we had gathered and walked out. The whole experience at Mark's was piss-poor and disappointing, because we had wanted to have someone knowledgeable assist us. If those guys knew anything, they had no desire to share it with a couple of girls who walked in 15 minutes before closing, and they lost our business. There's a paint shop on Van Nuys and Oxnard that we will visit-you should do the same. read more

I had to wait for the cashier guy to stop chatting to another guy and then on the phone for him to even ring me up. They have no service and they are extremely expensive, I would rather drive out of my way and yes even wait at a big store then to deal with these overpriced cabbage heads again. read more

I have never had worse customer service than this place. I walked in with my designer, looking for a very specific paint color. Firstly, no one greeted us for 20 minutes (we were talking, so its not like they didn't know we were there), after 20 minutes, WE had to go find someone to help us. We showed the older gentleman a picture of a room we were modeling mine after. The second I pulled out my phone the man flat out refused to look at it. He literally turned his head (keeping this stupid condescending smile on his face the entire conversation) and kept repeating "We can't match a color from a photo". I understand. That makes sense. The problem was that we kept repeating that we understood they couldn't match it, but could he show us some similar colors. Even after explaining that we were just looking for similar colors (teal by the way), he kept repeating the same sentence and flat out refusing to look. We finally got so frustrated and asked to speak with the manager. When the manager came over, we explained what happened (starting with the 20 minute wait for any acknowledgement we were even in the store). We told him we understood that they wouldn't be able to match anything perfectly but were just looking for some ideas, and he repeated the same phrase! Then he picked up a teal color and said "well, I mean this one is similar". I was so frustrated that I said " that's all I was looking for in the beginning, just some help. But I honesty would rather go to a different hardware store and give them the money". His response was not even to apologize (which would have kept us there and made the sale), but to say "ok, I don't know how else to help you" and walk away. I will NEVER enter that store again or give them any of my money. I assume this place is only good if you're buying 20 gallons of a specific color so they don't have to do any actual work or help in any way. read more

I came in today looking for the Modern Masters product line. Most stores I have gone to have minimal stock when it comes to this line. They had a tremendous amount of Modern Masters as well as lots of very cool paint options. There was an Italian line that has glitter in it...tremendous. Customer service was friendly. This is my new go to place for all paint and supplies. read more

Im upset with mark's paint employees bc i called them at 4pm to let them know i was leaving downtown los Angeles to come all the way to the vally to support their business. I told them that waze said i was gonna b there a few mins after 5pm (when they close). He said ok just hurry. I called them a few more times while in route just to keep them posted ,still no problem . Then when i call at 5pm and said im still coming im 6mins out., the guy trips out and say im not staying no 5 or 10 mins !! I told him , why would u let me come all the way here and not wait 5 or 10 mins when u said u were. This asshole said i thought u said u was gonna b here at 5:01, why in the fuck would i b calling u to stay open for 1 min !!! Then i told him i was gonna tip him $25 for the 5mins inconvenience and probably spend 500 dollars in paint smfh !!! So he woulda got two hours pay for helping me for about 30mins in all!!!! Here is a little thing about Mark's Paint, they service the triads and the studios. THIS IS A REAL PAINT STORE for PAINTERS, not the weekend DIY's, or the housewife or the guy trying to get a color to match off the computer. How ridiculous is that?? Home Depot has a machine that color matches the paint. Dunn Edwards does it by eye. As a matter of fact there are just a few guys that actually do that at DE, so it may take a day to get your paint. At Mark's if it's not in their color deck, you're mot going to get it, because most of the people that buy from them mix their own color. This is a specialty store. They will accommodate you, but you need to know what you want. It's one of the last real paint stores in LA. read more

If you're looking for artist paints, this store has SOME stuff like acrylics, spraypaint and brushes, but they mostly sell wall paint. The only thing that bugs me is nothing is priced. You either have to ask or guess. read more

Went in with a 14 yr old color code that was a custom color. the sales guy was totally helpful,he tried to figure out the old numbers and then I told him I was doing a complete repaint not just a touch up, he helped me find a stock color that is very close and by doing so saved me a lot of cash and the new color is spot on.also these guys know every product they sell. This store has everything under one roof you will ever possibly need. Keep in mind this store services all the surrounding studios, so yes, they at times assume you know what you are doing. I found that if I ask, they are pretty friendly. I have done MANY specialty finishes on walls, furniture, glass and metal. Every project, when I used what they told me to, turned out AMAZING.
