Mark has the best glizzies around! There is no one that has better combos on a dog. Great spot to stop whether you want a three or not!

We first tried to stop in one evening at 8:21 PM, only to be told the kitchen was already closed even though the restaurant didn't close until 9. Not exactly the welcome we were hoping for, but no big deal. We found somewhere else to eat and moved on. On our way home, we decided to give it another try, and I'm glad we did. We split the brisket sandwich, which was piled high with incredibly moist, tender and flavorful brisket on what appeared to be fresh ciabatta. No barbecue sauce, no coleslaw, no distractions. Just straight up brisket flavor, which gets two thumbs up from me. The sandwich came with two sides, so we chose the baked beans and pasta salad. Both were absolutely delicious and paired perfectly with the brisket. We washed it all down with an ice cold bottle of A&W Root Beer, the perfect summer pairing for a barbecue meal. The restaurant sits just off a relatively busy road, but the outdoor seating is tucked beside a beautiful pond. That gave me the opportunity to do a little birdwatching while enjoying lunch, which is always a bonus in my book. Best of all, the entire meal was about $20 for two people. The chef may not be the friendliest person, but fortunately he can cook, and I'm perfectly happy letting the food do the talking. I'd definitely go back and try some of their other dishes. Sometimes giving a place a second chance pays off.

Sal and Pots reminisced about the good old days including the numerous annual "game dinners", legendary for serving 150+ where people were lined up down the block waiting to eat elk, bear, rattlesnake, muskrat, squirrel, skunk, and the like. Alas, those days are over, a victim of COVID and changing tastes. As for me, I've never eaten skunk. Nowadays, I just hang out with one. Enough chit chat. Menu, for a bar, is pretty diverse. "The Skunk" had said the burgers were excellent, so I ordered "the Cowboy" - bbq sauce, bacon, cheese, fried onions ... and crispy fries. "The Skunk" had the rib eye sandwich w a garden salad. We washed everything down with several $3 pints of bud. He raved about his sandwich; my burger was very fresh and perfectly cooked, served on a brioche bun. Fries were also nice and crispy. To top it off, there was Christa, our excellent server / beermonger. Prices reasonable, bathrooms clean, food very excellent, beer is cold - what more do you want in a local bar? Oh, yeah, "Let's go Mets!"

Admittedly, I haven't been to that many farms for apple-picking, but Hurds is my favorite thus far…read more It's conveniently located off the Thruway (halfway between where I live and where I'm often going), it's staffed by people who I think are saints based on the shenanigans I've seen some of the patrons get into, and it's got all the things: Apples, of course. They've got all the varieties you want, but be aware that depending on when you go, only a couple of them are ripe for the picking. We just came home with a giant bag of Empires, and I couldn't be happier. Pumpkins. They have tiny decorative ones, medium ones for painting/carving, and larger ones for real deal jack-o-lanterns. Fun for the fam. There's a corn maze, a hayride that takes you around the farm and to the apple orchards, animals to feed, an obstacle course, zipline, water cannon, sandbox, tractors to sit on, tires to run on, a giant bounce pillow (like a big trampoline without the hard edges, and the one my girls live for: the giant slide. It's a pretty great slide. We've been the past couple of years in a row, and I'm not going to mess with a good thing. See you out there.
