A hole in the wall type of restaurant located near ice palace at Stadium Mall (across the street from Aloha Stadium). My Uncle talked very highly about this place saying their bitter melon with beef is one of the best he's ever had. Since he talked so highly about it I just had to visit this place the next day and he was right... it's amazing. I made sure to buy a plate for my Uncle as well. I had heard a lot of good things about Mark's. From experience, I've found that some of the best food comes from the hole-in-the-wall places. Sadly, this was not one of them. After a bit of a wait (despite no line), I finally got my food. First and foremost, the gravy was flat. A good gravy to me is the driving force in a good loco moco. While the patties were homemade and pretty good, the mediocre gravy left the dish as a whole lacking. Although I have not yet tried Fran's favorite ( oyster sauce chicken with noodles), I have tried their special which comes with chicken katsu and bbq chicken, rice , and Mac salad for only seven dollars and some change!! What a deal for a regular size plate!! This is usually the price for a mini plate at most plate lunch places now days!! We also ordered their bbq mix plate!! Tasty, well marinated meats like bbq chicken, Teri beef and short ribs for about ten dollars! What a steal! I will admit I'm not the biggest fan of their Mac salad but for the price of the plate with great tasting food, I'm not grumbling!! I ordered me a mini bbq chicken plate (all rice). Chicken tasted old and sour-ish... old meat? spoiled? re-headed meat? Ate it all anyway because I was hungry & I know my stomach can handle. Floor to ceiling boxes, no restroom, handful of antique red booths that seats 2, we're talking 400 sf, max. However, don't judge the book by its size. After 5 days of eating my way through Honolulu, I found this place on Sunday, 2 hrs before my departure flight. My loco moco was the best I've had in Honolulu - slightly better than Rainbows Drive-Inn. And it was dirt cheap. This is another joint I visit often because it's close to where I work. The food is okay but the prices are super cheap! The food is kinda L&L-ish fusioned with chinese. I usually order the wor gau gee mein or crispy gau gee mein because it actually taste pretty good and cheap. My co workers swear by the oyster sauce chicken, I haven't tried it because I generally hate chicken. Another decent dish is their hot and sour soup if you like that kind of thing. The place looks no different to any other plate lunch joint. Kinda dirty and like many other places, I'd hate to see how the kitchen looks like. This is one of my go to lunch places close to my office in Halawa. It is not the cleanest, it is not the most modern, but the food is good overall and the prices are reasonable.They have both the standard selection of Hawaiian style plate lunches and a number of Chinese dishes. One thing I enjoy is the Special with the Chicken Katsura and BBQ Chicken. It is a lot of good food for the price. The taste is great and fills me up. The Korean vegetables that come with it are a bonus. Recently, I have been coming here on Mondays as I follow a meatless day to start the week. They have two good meatless dishes: the Tofu vegetable soup and the vegetarian stir fry with rice. Both are tasty and come out piping hot. The rest of the Chinese dishes are pretty good, but the bitter melon with been is really good if you are into bitter melon. While I like the sauce for the cold ginger chicken, I think the oyster sauce chicken over noodles is just okay. The Chicken and Corn soup is great when you have cold - just add in a bit of the sriracha that is on the counter to add some spice if you need it. Overall, this is a pretty good place. The only things that I could wish for are a cleaner restaurant and even service from the people at the counter. Usually good, but sometimes a bit rude in a Chinese restaurant way. Overall, they are minor issues, but don't get my five stars. read more

Marks Drive Inn is a small restaurant in the Halawa area located in stadium mall and they have some of the best food ever. They mostly range from regular plate lunches to more of like Chinese style foods. My absolute favorite is the oyster sauce chicken because the portion is plentiful and the chicken has like a semi crispy skin and the meat is tender and juicy. I order my plate with no mac salad but instead of all rice I sub the salad for kimchee/bean sprouts. Other plates that are awesome is the fried chicken "which is exactly like the oyster sauce chicken no sauce" the special plate, mabo tofu just to name a few. Over all the staff is wonderful especially Aunty Shirley she's always there to greet you with a smile and makes sure your order is right. I love this place and it's a definite must go to!!!! A couple bucks and cents from your piggy bank is all you need to get a full meal at Mark's Drive Inn. This is the my go-to place that I hit up when I'm in the Stadium area and am looking to fill up for cheap. (and to fall asleep after eating, of course) Mark's Drive Inn sports about 4 of their own stalls meant for either picking up for phone orders, or dining in. Other than that, finding parking can be a bit tedious, especially given that Mark's is busiest around lunchtime. As of my visit today, (6/26/17) the entire parking lot right of Mark's Drive Inn coming in from Salt Lake Blvd, of course, was under construction, slimming your choices down of getting a good, or at least relatively close spot to Mark's. You'll find that space to walk around in the Drive-Inn is quite small, and that the tables are spaced back to back. I docked a star because of this. And I know it may not just be me, but I certainly don't want people being able to hear in on my conversations and vice versa. Not to mention listening to people eat with all the slurping and chewing, etc. No thanks! It's their only fatal flaw for me, really. When in a Drive-Inn with rockin' food, the cherry on top for me would be an extension in space. But boy, oh boy! Their food is amazeballs! Broke da mouth, but definitely not broke da wallet! For $7.35, you can get a special plate of BBQ chicken with Chicken Katsu, your choice of rice or mac, and a full tummy! Of course this isn't the only thing worth trying on the menu. Food ranges from burgers to garlic shrimp, orange chicken, and pretty much all the comfort food you can think of that'll keep you coming back for more. My go-to take out order of chicken katsu almost overflows the plate to the point where you aren't able to close it. Brown, crisped to perfection, and melt in your mouth juicy goodness. Lasts me for a big dinner and leftovers for tomorrow's breakfast or lunch. Pair that with side order mac salad and you're good to go for a picnic or even for a potluck! I love their fried garlic chicken. It's packed with flavor.. a little on the sweet side but I love it! Whenever I'm on the island, I eat here maybe 3-4 times a week. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous (except for seafood dishes, they seem to skimp a bit). I recommend trying menu items that they don't serve at other places because it's all yummy! read more

Been coming here for at least 15 years now, since they had an excellent BBQ chicken special that was extremely cheap. They still have that special, albeit the prices are a little higher, but still very cheap. Their plate lunches overall are pretty good. Most are average but there are a few items that are above average and for their prices, it can't be beaten. I love their mix plate, comes with 3 items, hamburger steak, chicken Katsu and BBQ chicken. What makes this place extra special to me is they usually throw in kim chee and bean sprouts (with every plate, even mini plates) in addition to the rice and mac salad. This small addition goes a long way though. Their hamburger steak is solid, one of my favorites (3 patties!) as well as the chicken Katsu, BBQ shortribs, and BBQ chicken.
