He showed me rough estimates so I'd have them when I'm ready and left the decisions to me. That kind of straightforward, no-upsell approach is rarer than it should be. Know the law and what is required to pass inspection before you get a State Inspection done here…read more I took my vehicle in for a NC State Inspection. A technician removed the rear wiper, brought it to me in the waiting area, and told me the inspection failed because of a tear in the rear wiper blade and wanted to sell me a new wiper. When I told him that NC inspection does not include the rear wipers, he insisted that it did. He didn't back down until I asked him to show me the requirement in the law, which he couldn't do. NC Statute specifies only that all "windshield" wipers that clear the windshield in front of the driver must be in working order. No other window locations or wipers are addressed. This was clearly a case of trying to sell an overpriced rear wiper and justifying it by lying about the inspection requirements. Also, the technician had no business removing any part of my vehicle that I had not asked him to. In the end, my vehicle passed inspection. I added 1 star to my rating because the technician who greeted me and brought the car out when it was done was very friendly and polite.
