I am not local (American) but I have lived in London as a young poor 20 something. Primark was a Godsend for me. It's also really interesting now that they have expanded into the states (although not where I live) to come back and see how it has changed. When I lived here and had no money this was my go to for anything trendy, or needed. When I moved back to America quite unexpectedly I went there to stock up on inexpensive suitcases to pack up my life and carry back across the world. Any fast fashion or trendy items, this was my go to. Needed something for my home that didn't need to be high quality, Primark. I got a job at AllSaints a few blocks away and we were supposed to wear their clothes exclusively, but we only got a 60% discount (that's a big discount but still not inexpensive for a college kid) so I got a lot of my work shoes here and they never noticed. Now that I visit as a tourist, it's my go to for things like I need an umbrella that I can leave behind when I go home, or it's raining and I didn't bring my raincoat with me today...or it's colder than what I planned for on this trip so let me stop by and grab a few pieces of layering clothes or a coat. The Disney selection makes me wonder why there isn't a Primark in Orlando (because they get very unique Disney licensed items). If you don't have a big budget or are in need of souvenirs, I also recommend Primark. But if you're looking for a luxury experience, this isn't for you. If you're anti fast fashion, please just skip this. It's busy and loud and sort of a cattle call at the till, but it's great novelty spot. The layout has shed over the years bit it's still a great spot for cheep gifts, replacing broken or lost items and getting an unexpected suitcase for any souvenirs if you are a tourist (my favorite suitcase going on 11 years was £25 from here & yes we got another this most recent trip) 3 stars because I've definitely had some weird experience here over the years but generally if you go in knowing what it is and what to expect, it won't disappoint you.

It might not be a huge building, and it might not offer much which can't be found not too far away (which is actually quite typical of London) but it is a cool, albeit bang-average place. 3* - Useful but doesn't particularly stand out as special.

I was in London in December 2013. I visited a bunch of department stores. Part of me was curious about how they are set up versus how the flagship department stores in Canada were set up. I visited the flagship Selfridges store on Oxford Street. Rest in peace to the flagship Eaton's store in Winnipeg that I frequented often when I worked across from it. I also miss the flagship Hudson's Bay stores in Toronto and Winnipeg. I will toss in the flagship Simpsons store that preceded the Hudson's Bay. I stayed in South Kensington. There was a bus stop steps away from the hotel and around the corner from Gloucester Road station. I took the 74 Putney bus that got me to this store. I could have also taken the underground to Piccadilly Circus, but the walk would have been a bit longer. I wasn't sure how much damage I'd do here! I entered the store from Oxford Street, which gets you on the ground level. I remember seeing sushi on a convenor belt to my left. It was cool. It was Yo! I'm glad that this eatery is still around. You can dine here or do takeout. I entered the foodhall. I was so happy. I saw cupcakes, oysters, caviar, and more. Everything looked fancy and yummy. The ground floor had a beauty section and a pharmacy. This store is large. It's the second-largest department store in London, behind Harrods. I spent most of my time on the lower ground level. It's where the candy, wine, and cookshop sections are. I love candy and confections. I saw everything from macarons and chocolate malt balls, to fancy bourbon and wine. I bought some chocolate bars. They were perfect to hand out to colleagues. They were also Christmas-themed. I got milk and dark chocolate varieties. They were delicious. This floor also had a cinema. I didn't check it out. I was too busy visiting the technology and stationery sections. I was so happy on this floor. I spent the most time here. I did check out the women's clothing, which occupies levels 2 and 3. There was a lot of designer clothing. It didn't suit my casual, cheaper style. I loved coming here just before Christmas. It was festive and fun. The Christmas section was enjoyable to peruse. Merch here is on the pricier side but if you are looking for something trendy, you can definitely find it here. One thing to note about Frock Me Vintage Fashion fair is that it only takes place once a quarter, but boy oh boy, do they make the most of this fantastic location and gathering of fashionistas! No corridor is left unattended (there's a lot of corridors), no wall untouched, no free spaced not filled! There are so many truly wonderful pieces of clothing, jewellery, and bits and bobs to discover you need a good few hours to truly make the most of the experience! I began looking at some items and then I realised the reason that this fashion fair is located in Chelsea. These unique and beautiful items are not cheap by any stretch which you do kind of expect for vintage but I wasn't expecting prices to be this high - around £150 plus for the majority with a few hidden gems for a lower price. I found the most stunning dress (blue silk with delicate cream lace - just beautiful) but sadly it was £180 so I had to settle for the dream of what would have been! I did however purchase an angelic, flower printed hand mirror (the kind you see in Pride and Prejudice or image Snow White to have), sure I didn't need it but the little girl in me was screaming out, so I spent the £17 and I believe it was £17 well spent - it'll definitely be something I pass on to a daughter or god daughter - but for now It's taking pride of place on my dressing table. The only other slight negative I have is that some of the vendors were quite grumpy but it was later in the day so they may have had a very busy morning and long day! The vendor who I brought my mirror from however, June, was lovely and even gave me a voucher so that I could come for free next time! Overall, the experience is just wonderful for anyone who has even the slightest interest in fashion and for just a £4 entry fee it is more than worth a visit. I will definitely be back!

The shop lights were still on, and we could see people inside (who we later realised were all staff). We approached the automatic doors, but they didn't open. We checked the store's Saturday closing time on Google Maps and saw it was 7:00 pm. Just as we were about to give up, we noticed a staff member inside with long, straight brown hair, smiling and gesturing for us to come in through the glass door. Although we knew the store had already closed, I initially thought the staff member was being kind and generous by inviting us for a quick look. However, despite her repeated gestures, the automatic door remained shut. After a while, I realised the staff member had no intention of letting us in and was, in fact, making fun of us. I felt completely mocked and ridiculed, leaving me with a sense of being insulted. Later, the same staff member made a gesture with her hands, appearing to mouth an apology, but by then it felt insincere. I couldn't shake the feeling that this incident was racially motivated. She seriously needs to learn how to treat others with basic respect, even before receiving any customer service training. This was the worst experience I have ever had, and I will not be returning to ZARA again.

I visited the King's Road store, admittedly on a weekend, but it was a terrible experience. I have worked in retail on the King's Road and know just how stressful it can be, nonetheless, I was never allowed to overlook customer service. Firstly, there are two separate queues for buying and returning. While I think this is an intelligent idea overall, it is not well signposted, and the staff in the fitting rooms don't tell you. I had to wait for 30 minutes at the buying till, only to be told to go to the returns queue, and wait for another 30 minutes. Secondly, they seem to treat everyone trying to return items they have bought online like suspects. I wasn't allowed to exchange the products I had bought. I was told I'd have to pay for new items on the day. My refund for my first purchase was made, but it takes up to 12 days to arrive in my bank account. Why should I have to be out of pocket for a fortnight? I had already spent my money. Thirdly, when I raised a perfectly legitimate concern about a lack of signposting in the store about the queue system, and that customers who have already paid for items should be able to exchange, I was told by the manager that I should have asked about these policies when I entered the store. Why is that the case? Customers are not obliged to understand complex policies of firms - they are not employees! I was in two minds about posting a bad review, as I know that working in retail can be horrible, and I wouldn't want to leave hard-working staff feeling deflated. However, Zara's business model seems to have gone very down hill. They rely far too heavily on self-service. This may work in a supermarket when you know exactly what you need, but it simply isn't suitable for a company that sells clothes at mid-range price point. Overall, I would say that the company's focus 'selling fast' has undermined the customer experience, and has left staff feeling disillusioned. Great shame, as it used to be a great experience.

But also many "American" brands. See their website for all they sell. Atmosphere - Open 7 days a week from 10am to 8pm and on Sundays from 11:30am to 6pm. Good size department store, almost like a maze...? Not sure if it is due to an older building or done intentionally to make you walk the entire store (think Ikea). Or it could have just been me since they have a bar here and I got confused/lost my sense of direction... Service - Okay. I am always in favor of businesses with bars. My wife shops and I drink. And she can bring her bags to me to watch so she doesn't have to carry them; win/win! Price - 4 to 7 pounds a beer at the bar; reasonably priced for an upscale department store. I was able to find every and any thing that I needed while in here. The associates were polite and willing to help with anything. I browsed a bit, but basically already had in mind what I wanted to get while I was in here. I give the salesperson behind the register props by getting me with the up-sale. In fact it was an item that my niece was going to love anyway.
