What's the big deal, that is my opinion. No one but you and the employee were there to hear it. The second day I went in I was excited because there was a man sitting at a table eating. So I thought I could sit down and eat. I came around the corner to order and saw a sign that it was take out only. I only said "oh it is still only take out" that is when you yelled at me that "if I didn't like it, I could go elsewhere. That it has been your policy for three years." After you yelled at me, I did raise my voice to say I was unaware of your policies because I live in another state. Offer customers a choice. I will gladly clear my table, I will even wipe it down if that is too much work for you. Just to have a table to eat my meal. I came with my two toddler children whom are homeschooled April 15, 2024 at 12:30p.m. There were two people working, a mature woman and man, the woman has a very sweet and warm demeanor but the mature aged man had an off putting demeanor, cold without a welcoming spirit. I wouldn't say this place is "children friendly" which is unfortunate considering that it's not fine dining. One needs to have an inviting atmosphere to allow their customers to feel welcomed and it's not happening here. I wanted to leave immediately but I love food and wanted to try given the reviews. Now, the food- I'm sorry to say is dry, I wasn't expecting for it to be so underwhelming I had the chicken kabob bowl ..the rice and chicken was hard to swallow without libation as if it was a day old. Also, the lentil soup had no flavor whatsoever, no salt, no pepper, no spice.. it simply was lentils and water. This place is really a miss in totality. She took time to explain the menu since we were first timers. It was obvious she enjoys what she does. Your order is placed at the counter and brought to you. We were one of a few other couples there and our food was ready in about 10 minutes. The restaurant and bathroom was very clean. Prices were reasonable. Portion sizes were not small! I opted for the vegetable stir fry which was well seasoned and delicious. It was a little spicy so stay away if you don't like heat. The tabbouleh, hummus and baba ganoush were prefect. Easy to see how Markook's earned their five stars from the moment you walk in. Clean restaurant with lots of tables, nicely decorated, and we were greeted from the moment we walked up to order. How it works: You place your order at the counter then they bring it out to you a few minutes later. Pick what you'd like as either a wrap, salad, or platter (served with 2 sides). I'm assuming it was the owners that were working, they were super friendly and explained the menu to us. Everything on the menu looked delicious, but I chose the signature chicken shawarma wrap and my bf got the beef shawarma wrap, both were very good. I'm full but got one of their pistachio-filled desserts to go. The location is super convenient if you're traveling on I-79 or route 19, it's between both. Prices were good too. Clean bathrooms. I'm already looking forward to returning to try more items, but there are a couple things that prevent me from giving five stars. One, I do think it's a bit overpriced. Not exorbitant, but I guess for a place that's sort of fast food, paying $12-14 for most meals seems high. If I pay that much, I like having enough for leftovers! Also, I sampled six things, and four of them were great but two were just average. I had the shawarma chicken with chickpea salad and chick/veg soup. My DP had salmon on a salad. And of course the pitas. The soup was the star of the show for both of us. I also enjoyed the chicken and the salmon and salad (as well as sauces). But the chickpeas and pitas were disappointing. The online ordering wasn't difficult but deleting items that we decided not to get was frustrating, I had to re start the order a few times. Picking up the meal was easy. Walk in walk out. The meal it self was less than appetizing when I opened the lid. The chicken was swimming in grease. It was the First thing I noticed. I transferred my food to a plate and re heated due to take out it was Luke warm. I'm not going to blame the restaurant for cold food when you have take out it's expected to cool down. The flavors were not there. The chicken was lightly seasoned and full of oil. I used a paper towel to squeeze the oil. I then used chili sauce to make it flavorful. I ate what I could which was over half. The amount of food you get is worth the 13.95. It was a large portion. Village salad was okay, not great not bad. I tried there but I most likely will not be returning unless I'm in the mood for hummus. The hummus there is great. Best thing of the night. The pita thing they have was dry and hard as a rock. Every now and then, when you take foodie vacations, you come across a hidden little gem like Markook. We were drawn to the place because of the universally amazing Yelp reviews. We had high hopes and expectations, and Markook did not disappoint! The food was so fresh and delishous. We tried the beef and chicken schwarma along with most of their house made side salads. In a word, GREATNESS! I must mention the fresh baked pita bread, puffy and tasty, baked in a high tech oven in full view of the customers. The baklava was a great closer, both the pistachio and walnut were perfect. The food was beautiful, but the real highlight for us was the family that own and run Markook. Mom, dad, and daughters, working very hard to ensure your dining experience is memorable. They are all so bright and attentive, they are the real reason Markook is so great.
