Worst plumber I have ever had in all my years as a homeowner in several states. Ripped us off on a water heater installation and simultaneously ruined our pressure throughout the house. Then, in a moment of appalling unprofessionalism, this clown stood in my kitchen and YELLED AT ME when I inquired about the weak water pressure. Had a cement water slab leak, called Marklein who immediately came out to assess the damage & provide a pricing range assessment that would depend upon the leak scanning to better assess the water damage area. A tree root had cracked a PVC to metal pipe connection at my cabin in Julian on a Sunday afternoon. While searching websites looking for a plumber that would travel up the hill my wife got in contact with someone at Marklein plumbing. The woman she spoke to said she would see what she could do...a couple of hours later (Sunday night!) she said she could have someone there by 9am Monday. Showed up masked, maintained social distancing. Now for real part of review, had a rusted through pipe for a faucet that was attached to mains, leak was bad enough that we shut down the mains, they came out found it and replaced with copper. Turned mains back on after glue dried (last night) and zero problems. Highly recommend if needed. read more

I am very sad to report that we are extremely disappointed in what transpired with this company. We had a sewer ejector pump that was not working, got them to come over and check it out, Craig looked at it and charged us $200 diagnostic fee to tell us that pumps and floaters all need replacement. He gave us few quotes, ranging from 3500-6000. On the quote he was charging us $800 for one check valve replacement, they cost $20 at Ace, $2300 for the pump which range from $150-$600 and few more bogus charges. We were suspicious and hired a local handyman for a 2nd opinion, turns out the pump was just clogged and we ended up paying him $200 to fix everything. Please please please get a second opinion, I hate to hurt local businesses with bad reviews, but I don't want my neighbors made fools off. read more

Craig Marklein and his apprentice did a great job unclogging my bathtub drain. I called mid morning on Saturday and I asked to have someone come out. The lady taking the call said what day would you like someone. I said as soon as it can be scheduled. She replied, how about to day between 3 and 7 pm. I received a text message confirming my call, the service consultation fee and a picture of Craig. When he was on his way, I got another text letting me know he was coming. He evaluated my drain issue told me what it was going to cost and got the job done expeditiously and at a very reasonable rate. I was able to shower last night with a drain that drained. Thank you Craig and your apprentice. I am certain if he learns the business from you he will be terrific. If I could give no stars I would!!! Totally crap company!! Called them to unclog our drain. Overcharged for them to snake the drain $200!!! Which did nothing. Guy said needed a replacement so he scheduled a day to come replace the piping to repair the clog. He replaced a section of the pipe, check to see if it was still clogged, which it was...he left saying sorry it's still clogged you'll have to call me out and charge me again to finish the job I was sent here to do. So we called them to complain and apparently he's the only technician and he just had "surgery" and can't come back out.... but looking online they clearly have more employees. We have called several times for them to come out and do their job properly and they said they couldn't come back. Tried to claim we denied a full service, the full service was to fix the clog and we did not deny that! Simply out these people don't do their job!! And they overprice. $1,300 to not fix my clogged drain!!! read more

Best Service EVER!! Craig arrived on time to fix a Kitchen faucet that had been leaking above and as it turned out below the sink. The leak below flood the Master bedroom on the other side of the wall. Who needs a "Smell good plumber" or those "White Glove" Guys when someone like Craig or his crew can and will show up. For a plumbing service provider they are ridiculously expensive! To give you an idea, I requested a quote to replace five Fossett heads with their hot and cold handles. Basic removal of the old hardware and replaced with new. Nothing special. I was given an estimate of almost five thousand dollars. I was completely stunned... it was absolutely laughable! So I just watched a YouTube video, ordered the hardware, and did my own work. Costed me just over eight hundred dollars. If you pay the price they ask, you are either independently wealthy (lazy) or just ignorant. read more

I can't say enough good things about my experience with Craig! First, as another writer mentions, he answers his phone, or someone from his answering service does. What company does that anymore?! It's wonderful. Second, he arrived at the time he promised. Punctual, relieable? Yes indeed. Third, he performed a number of indoor and outdoor plumbing jobs for me. He works quickly and efficiently and his work is terrific. Fourth, and this is the part where he went above and beyond: He replaced a pressure regulator for my irrigation system. Once installed, the pressure readings for my system were not consistent. He spent quite a bit of extra time trying to resolve the issue. He even came a 2nd time and replaced the new pressure regulator with another one, no questions asked, on the very slim possibility that the 1st regulator was faulty. We have an older home which had multiple cheap remodels before we purchased it 17 years ago. We did an extensive high quality remodel 12 years ago, but despite that, plumbing problems keep appearing. Our friends had used Craig for a remodel last year, and spoke highly of him, so when our next crop of problems appeared, we decided to call him, even though we are in Point Loma and he is Ramona-based. The first thing we can say about Craig is that he was very welcoming and wanted to help us. More than that, he assured us that he wanted to do such a good job for us, that he would become our regular "go to" plumber. Nice start. We sent him text message photos of our problem (fractured and leaking cast iron sewage pipes in our garage) and he gave us an estimate which was lower than some others, but warned us that other problems may increase the costs once he started. He later came down to look at the job, and showed us several other issues which were likely to result in problems in the mid-range future. At no point did we feel pressurized to accept his advice, he was just being a professional in letting us know where future trouble spots might be. He ended up doing a much more complex job than we originally asked for, but he kept his price exactly to his estimate, and he completed the job faster than we expected.
