the produce and the meat are always horrible. they go bad within 2 days of purchasing it. The market's kitchen is absolutely abysmal. the dumb-ass people who are in charge are clearly very aware of how lucrative their kitchen is, and they'll leave 2 old ladies to go deal with the lunch rush on a saturday afternoon. no matter what time it is, if you call and place an order 99% of the time your order never gets made, or it gets made wrong. I constantly ask for a well done pizza, only to bring it home and open it up and see literal raw pizza dough with the cheese falling off. Yesterday i placed an order for 2 subs over the phone at about 4:45pm and a delightful young man took my order and said it would be ready in 30 minutes. I arrived 40 minutes later and see my subs on the counter out of reach. The line was long with people ordering so i stood to the side to ask for someone to hand me my subs. I see an older male employee ladeling chowder into bowls for the grab N go area where rotisserie chickens are purchased by customers. This soup guy had the most noticeably disgusting hands ever! His nails are all diseased, discolored, and riddled with fungus and straight up look disgusting!!! He had no gloves on and was wiping the spilled chowder off the bowl edges with his hands!!! Yuck!! How is he working with food, with hands like that? Health code violation in my eyes!! This man couldn't put lids on the bowls of soup correctly and kept crushing the paper bowls. You could tell he was an hourly employee taking his time to literally fill 3 small bowls of soup as slowly as possible. So after patiently waiting for minutes and watching that soup disaster there was a sub station lady walking out front from the back room area & i tried to ask her for my subs before she walked by them, however, the disgusting nailed soup man made eye contact with me first and initiated conversation. I told him i was just trying to pick up the subs next to him. He bluntly told me to go ask the sub lady. I told him i was trying to ask the sub lady but he stepped up and initiated conversation with me. He basically said, Tough, and just looked down and refused to look at me or respond. The subs were 6 feet away to his right on the same counter!! I admit i was irked by that so i told him i was trying to ask the sub lady but he initiated conversation with me and now the sub lady was gone again. A woman from the back room heard us and came out and asked if i needed help. I mentioned to her i called 40 minutes ago and just wanted my subs sitting on the counter next to soup guy. She walked over, saw my name on the order, and kindly handed me my 2 subs. I genuinely thanked her and then sarcastically thanked the soup guy for doing a splendid job and wished him a wonderful night. The express cashier up front i had was a middle aged woman with a wrist guard who is awesome every single time i use her checkout lane. Most employees at this location are great, the subs are usually great, the prices are great, but that soup guy with diseased/athletes foot hands is a cancer that should be removed. I love Market Basket. It is one of my favorite stores. I have bought many hot and cold sandwiches from the take out for many many years . Last week I went to the Hooksett Market Basket take out and ordered 4 meals . Everyone of the meals was terrible hot sandwiches where burnt . It was a terrible experience. Embarrassing selection and prices @ this MB. $15.99-$18.99 for poorly butchered avg quality cuts (AND questionable labeling PRACTICE as i buy high quality cuts exclusively for home and work) , I am only compelled to review this visit because this has become their norm, to illustrate this, I offered to buy an entire packer cryovac unit of Ribeye and cut myself (they wouldn't cut 1" thick steaks, and the butcher offered no discount from the retail, (really?!) Take out of the box and sell it retail $$ and not have to cut, trim or repack? (370$, for a cut i got from a fair butcher for $200...) was willing to buy 60 lbs no trim, no bleeding of the bag, no alterations, just slap a sticker on it.. Every grocer does this as common practice, regardless of chain. I don't expect this review to change shoppers minds, simply temper expectations, and possibly use this as a teaching opportunity. This review is mainly directed towards the market kitchen. The grocery store as a whole is great. The market kitchen which used to be great has been terrible as of late. I'm not sure why they don't hire more people for the kitchen but I've gone in there with a massive line and one person working on the grill several times. They are always messing up orders, this chicken parm in the picture is hard and just tastes like it's 2 days old. The pizza used to be delicious, now whoever is cooking pizzas puts an inch thick of cheese on the pizza. It's floppy and it's really greasy, not to mention that it's almost always undercooked and I have to spend an extra half an hour cooking the pizza. I love my cheese but good god I felt sick after I ate that much. Whoever is working on the pizza grill does not know what they are doing. Disrespectful, 1st year Caleb, was the cashier that I had the pleasure of meeting. First comment was about the cooler bags I had with me. "wow they smell good" okay sure, thank you. Second comment was regarding the eggs I had purchased. Mind you they were your standard 18 pack, Market Basket brown eggs. Caleb asked me "what is wrong with these eggs? What's that white stuff on there?" I said that's probably how the chicken laid the eggs. "well that's just gross" was his comment, as he closes the eggs and shoves them down the belt, into the pile of everything else I had purchased. At this point I'm already bagging my groceries, which I have no issue doing. I know everyone is short staffed, and if I can help alleviate the work load, I will. As I started picking up bags to put in the cart, I can see that there are glass jars of sauce on top of chips, and some of the other bags just had everything shoved in them. Mind you, the entire I am at the register, he is talking to the bagger, and saying to me "you still need to pay" and then again "you still need to pay" Well as nicely I could, I told him he could wait for me to pay while I bag my groceries and do his job for him. I also asked him if he knew how to bag groceries and he said "well, no I'm a cashier" Then come to find out, there were two assistant managers standing right in front of the register I was at, and did nothing to intervene. This was the first time I ever shopped at the Hooksett NH Market Basket and I will never go back. First time at this store and the people are so rude. The managers were standing at the door by the cart didn't greet anyone. Went through the checkout express lane and the two cashiers seemed so robotic and cold. They pack groceries like they have no care in the world for your items. Market Basket was a weekly stop for me when I lived in New Hampshire and I purchased the bulk of my groceries from there due to their competitive pricing and decent inventory. Yup, Market Basket was rather affordable and priced most of their inventory a few dollars cheaper than other supermarkets in the area. Factor in the weekly sales and I'd often find myself coming back to my apartment with a dozen eggs for $.70, some ridiculously cheap fresh Maine lobster, cheese from elsewhere in new england, and bundles of produce. Also, shoutout to their meat department! Though Shaw's has better sales, Market Basket's meat department would occasionally order some limited products at my request. Their sales were also pretty good. I remember stopping by after thanksgiving and I literally grabbed half a turkey plus a neck and some drumsticks for about $10. Additionally, Market Basket offered odds, ends, and unusual items such as blood sausage (don't recommend as I prefer morcilla) and suet (loved this for frying or for biscuits). I'm Lines here were reasonable. I frequented the Manchester location as that was the closest to my old apartment, but decided to seek alternatives because the line there was only a slight improvement over the DMV. I remember glancing around and everyone else waiting for the register had a look on their face like they hated life. There were drawbacks. Market Basket offered a limited selection of organic and non-gmo products. If I wasn't satisfied with the quality of their produce, I'd make the trek to whole foods. Also, their applecider doughnuts smelled like the inside of a portable toilet. But other than that, MB was alright. read more

We don't have grocery stores like this in Virginia. I went in on opening day to grab a few items and check out the new store. It's huge, had everything I wanted and the prices were super low. I grabbed three things of pita chips for $6 when I usually pay $3 for one. There were tons of cheese options and even a respectable amount of vegetarian selections. (I don't eat meat at home and have become aware of a serious lack of veggie options in grocery stores.) It was packed; I found a space as someone else left. I didn't have to search long, though -- maybe 30 seconds. Once I got into the store, I realized that it was stuffed with other shoppers. Certainly some aisles weren't easy to navigate, but employees were directing cart traffic and helping people find the best check-out lines at the front. (This isn't something I've seen at another grocery store.) I had to ask a few employees where things were (I've only ever been into Market Basket twice before this) and they were really helpful -- even walking me to the item I needed. Even with the crowd and many full carts, no aisle felt bare -- they must have been restocking everything really fast. The selection at Market Basket is fabulous; before this opened, I was getting groceries at the local Wal-Mart and felt very disappointed with my options there. So glad there's another place to buy groceries now. I drove up there to Market Basket in the rain today to grab a few things I forgot and saw employees escorting customers to their cars with umbrellas. Yesterday employees were clearing carts from the lot and helping a lady load her groceries into the trunk when I left. Since my cashier and bagger were also kind and helpful, I think they must hire really friendly, customer-service oriented people. Stopped at Market Basket while I was visiting my boyfriend's parents in Hooksett. I am from Buffalo and I love Wegmans. I usually go through withdrawal when I am not near one, but Market Basket was a wonderful substitute. I couldn't believe that most of their items were so inexpensive and they were also offering an additional 4% off. The atmosphere was nice and the employees were great. I shop all supermarkets and shop often as we have five boys from 9 to 24 in the family plus my husband. We do try to eat healthy, lots of produce and whole grains, organic fruits & veggies. Thus I spend horrific amounts on food weekly- like $300-400 . Prices definitely lower here, no matter what I buy, I walk out of here spending less money. Layout is strange (as mentioned by Ana) appears to be effort to maximize profit centers- shoppers must walk through MB bakery to get to produce, for example, or walk through packaged meats and dairy before they reach low cost staples. Also, aisle layout make no sense ( jumps around from canned/jars to cereal and then back again with paper in between) so it is hard to find items like Soymilk , they don't have a 'natural' section like Hannaford or Shaws. Because of this it is hard to shop time-efficiently at this particular store. Not a lot of organic produce and what there is is harder to find d/t quirky marking systems- must be hard for short folks b/c most are at the top of the displays. I don't care for their bakery items as compared to Hannaford, for example. Lots of hydrogenated oils in everything. Not so easy to find a clerk once you are in the grid of the store- they need electronic kiosks on the aisles to let shoppers self-serve to find things, b/c it is a challenge. Large selection; the place to go if you can't find an item you have on a coupon. Staff very friendly, very old fashioned feel. Where do they sell lottery tickets? About six years ago I used to work near MB in Amherst and was told NEVER buy the meat/deli etc there by MB workers I knew... the company seems to have ramped up and changed since then, friends now say MB has the best meats. I love Market Basket in general but the store in Hooksett is horrible for customer service. I asked 6 different people where they keep their Flatbreads. I was sent six different places. I have in the last three years had 8 surgeries from serious injuries. I get very annoyed that employers don't teach their employees to ask someone if they don't know where a product is, but this store nope they just send you around the moon. I had to ask for a manager where it was and by that time I was in so much pain I couldn't walk. He did not even want to listen to me about his store, so I will not be returning ever. I usually go to the Bedford store, and I will never stay from them again as they at least have common sense and care about their shoppers. I do not advise the Hooksett store. We're so Grateful for the employees at the Hooksett,NH Market Basket! We are from Salem and My Dad has dementia and snuck out of the house and took the car on Thursday 12/28/18 at 1:20. The police were working with us to find him and we couldn't find him until we got a call from the Hooksett, Market Basket around 7:00. A man and woman employee took such great care of him until we could get there. We are so grateful that they turned such a stressful day into a happy ending!! I absolutely love this location. I have a Market Basket closer to me but I prefer to go out of my way to the Hooksett location. Employees are always so courteous, friendly. They typically will greet you and ask how you're doing or if you need help finding anything. The coupon deals are always amazing as well. Sometimes you can get something like Pepperidge Farm bread for $1.50. They'll even put the coupons right on the products for you so you'll use them. I've never had any issues with bagging, and I'll occasionally get my items boxed as it makes it easier to bring in the house anyway. This location will continue to get my business, just be sure to get there early, as it does get really busy come midday! read more

I don't like this Market Basket. The lines are always long, and the cashiers and baggers aren't very polite. They hardly greet the customer, and never ask how I would like my bags bagged because some days I need plastic and other days I really don't. I also don't like their dairy products as they are always too close to the expiration date. They are more pricey than Hannaford now. I only shop here when I really need something and I prefer going to Market Basket than Wal-Mart since I live so close by. read more

Can't beat the customer service. My cashier Kieran made my week and if we were in the Polar Express I bet he would pull the emergency break for me. He seemed the type, and the sparkling conversation he maintained throughout my experience made me smile with every bite of my strawberry rhubarb pie at the Rotary Club. Speaking of which, I would also highly recommend the produce section, which I can only describe as divine. Last week I bought a Mrs Budds chicken pie at the Market Basket supermarket in Hooksett and the date on it was use or freeze by the next day. I couldn't bring myself to eat it so close next to the use by date. Today my mom bought whoopie pies from their bakery and the date on it is tomorrow. They are stale. This is so frustrating. The only things I like about Market Basket are that they have a larger selection of items and the prices are usually lower than other grocery stores in the area. Other than that, I can't stand this chain of stores. Too much stuff in the aisles making it hard to maneuver your cart around. They really need to hire a night crew to stock their shelves because every time I go in there they have aisles stuffed full of teenagers that are supposed to be stocking shelves, but they're just standing around chit chatting about partying and complaining about managers. I mean, why have them doing that in the middle of the day on Saturday when the place is crazy busy and they're just in the way of customers trying to shop? Also, there's never any cell phone signal inside the store, making it impossible to make a call if you need to ask someone at home if you're out of something and need to buy more. But the worst is their selections of meat and produce. All the fruits and vegetables are usually either so under ripe that you have to wait days before you can use them or so over ripe they're minutes away from being rotten. And the meat is just awful. So many times I've bought some ground hamburger or chicken that the expiration date is still days away, but I bring it home and open it right away and it smells absolutely spoiled already. I could go on for days about why I would recommend to anyone to use other grocery stores in the area, but I'll just stop at my biggest complaints. read more

On Thursday,Feb.25, about 5:15pm my wife and I arrived at the Hooksett,NH,Market Basket to buy some groceries. We headed for the deli and hot food section first,where my wife slipped on some grease on the floor and fell. She fell hard injuring her left wrist and right knee. No nearby employees offered assistance of any kind. It took several seconds for my wife to get to her feet with my help and she was obviously dazed. A woman in an electric power chair offered assistance,got out of her chair and insisted my wife sit for a moment. I asked for a manager and when he appeared the woman who witnessed the fall immediately pointed out the grease spots on the floor and the fact that my wife was obviously injured. I had to request ice for my wife's wrist which was swollen and red. At NO TIME did ANY Market Basket employee,including the Manager ask my wife if she was okay or if she needed/wanted medical treatment. The woman who witnessed the incident said I should request an accident report since Market Basket didn't offer one,and I did just that. Market Basket offered no chair or other temporary support while my wife got her bearings back,only the kindness of the woman witness was offered. Market Basket made my wife walk all the way back to the cafeteria area to wait and file an incident report. The Manager sat down across from my wife and said,"Name? Address?" never once asking how she felt. We requested a copy of the incident report and were told "absolutely not","we don't do that". The Manager stated if we had any medical bills due to the fall bring them to the store and they would pay them. That was it!! I have never seen anyone treated with less human interest!! AT NO TIME WAS MY WIFE ASKED HOW SHE FELT or IF SHE NEEDED MEDICAL ATTENTION. We are very disappointed in Market Basket's reaction to this accident. read more

Big selection of foods, friendly staff, clean store and pretty decent parking lot. Not to metion the perfect location right off the highway for easy access! I love their store brand Greek yogurt (the mango and raspberry are the best!) Great deli section, always stocked shelves, and always a ton of food choices. My favorites are the deli, meat dept, cereal isle and ice cream selection too. I really enjoy their store brand items that are almost always cheaper than name brands, but just as good. I'm also a fan of their water flavor drops. It brings a bit of fun back to plain water (strawberry watermelon and raspberry lemonade are the best!) And they always have delicious and fresh produce. I love going by the bakery and looking at their display cases. I suggest trying their chocolate chip cookies or their yummy macroons. I also enjoy the hot deli counter where you can get sandwiches, hot food and freshly made pizza. I am a huge fan of their fresh sushi selection. Their rolls are always delicious and their prices are very reasonable. My husband is a fan of the sushi and the rotisserie chickens they have as well. I wish I lived closer to this location!
