I was a patient for about two years. I have a lot of dental issues due to having had radiation…read moretreatment for tongue cancer 16 years ago. Radiation zaps your salivary glands. So you don't make as much saliva, which has enzymes needed to prevent decay. That's why I wore fluoride trays and got cleanings every three months. Dr. Martinson was friendly. But he had no experience with patients like me. I came to him after having two coronectomies by the head of Endodontics at U of Penn, because all of the endodontists in Asheville said they couldn't do root canals on two of my molars that needed them. They said they'd have to be extracted. You want to avoid extracting teeth in a radiated mouth, because there is a 21% chance you could get osteoradionecrosis, which is bone death of the jaw. Radiation causes lack of vascularization, so your tissues don't get enough oxygen and they don't heal. ORN is a very serious condition that even with surgery can lead to disfigurement and even death. That's why I went to a teaching hospital where most of their patients are oral cancer survivors. The doctor at U of Penn was able to remove the decay in the crown of the teeth without having to extract the root. So it became even more crucial to keep up with those cleanings every three months. The first issue that came up with Dr. Martinson had to do with applying something called silver diamine fluoride to a place on one of those teeth wherev the crown had been removed where it had been applied to prevent decay. Dr. Martinson applied one additional application at my request. When I asked if I should come back in a few months for another application as had been recommended, he said the directions said only one application was necessary. The second issue was that the teeth cleanings I received there were not very thorough compared to cleanings I've had over the last 45 years. I was used to hour long cleanings. The cleaning I got in November at Fairview Dental took only 20 minutes. Then in February, they canceled my cleaning at the last minute saying the doctor had surgery, which shouldn't affect the hygienist. And they wanted to reschedule my appointment a month later, which would make four months between cleanings. Luckily I was able to use my son's appointment which was coming up. At that appointment, they had hired a new hygienist, who was very throurough. And she actually noticed decay. Dr. Martinson was not there. Dr. Busey confirmed the decay. Dr. Martinson called me a couple days later and said there was nothing he could do. The tooth would have to come out. I went to the oral surgeon at Rockcliff who sent me to a local endodontist to see if more of the crown could be removed. It couldn't. The decay was below the gumline. So I scheduled the dreaded extraction. Then I went back to Fairview Dental for my May cleaning only to find out they had never put it on the schedule. I was annoyed by this but didn't raise my voice or say anything rude. I just took the next available appintment which, you guessed it, was a month away. I saw Dr. Martinson in the hall and told him I was very scared about this upcoming procedure and mentioned that maybe another application of the SDF might have helped prevent the decay. His response was to tell me it can only arrest decay but not stop it. And then I got a letter dismissing me as a patient. It said they'd provide emergency service for 30 days. I wrote him a letter saying this was some way to treat me in my time of need. I am literally scared for my life. I said I was hoping they'd keep my June cleaning. When I didn't get a response, I called to see if it was still on the books. It wasn't. So the bottom line to this whole story is after suffering through subpar treatment and two canceled appointments, I'm the one who gets dismissed. Needless to say I would not recommend any health care professional who treats a patient this way. It's the opposite of care.

I just left this location and I wish I could give them 10 stars . This was by far the best dental…read moreexperience I have ever had! I live out of state and was having a dental emergency. I called multiple locations and no one would accept my insurance , but more importantly no one could get me in for an appointment today. As soon as Emily answered the phone at Asheville dental , I knew my luck was changing . She was so sweet and sympathetic. She made sure to explain everything to me including costs, since my insurance is no good in North Carolina and she got me in for an appointment in the afternoon. They sent me a text with all the information and a link to my paperwork so I could fill everything out before I arrived. I made sure to get there early and the offices are warm and welcoming. I gave my name in the front and they checked me in. I was called back right at my appointment time. I explained my situation and Makayla was patient and understanding. She checked my teeth and took an x-ray and made sure to verify the cost with me. Dr. Powell came in to examine me and he was absolutely wonderful. He explained the issue and provided me with lots of options . He answered all of my questions and I left feeling super hopeful and incredibly relieved. Thank you to Emily and Makayla and Dr. Powell! I hope you know what a difference you made in my life today.

There are several issues with this place. I'll elaborate. This place talked with my mom for a while…read moreon the phone, and my mom repeatedly said I have no dental insurance in their talk of several minutes. I shortly after get a text message to bring in my insurance card. That's quite unprofessional to not make notes of someone, and just giving them a generic response, which wouldn't be the first time they are inattentive either. I addressed to the nurse and Dasher that I'm vegan, which is blatantly disregarded later on, as I'll get to that soon. Also, my mom thought the plants in there were real, but I knew they were fake, and even the nurse said they're fake. Real plants help with oxygen, creativity, and other benefits. Their plants are as fake as their care. Dasher doesn't know too much flouride harms the teeth, known as fluorosis, as there's even a word for it, and thinks just spitting out fluoride means it's safe, even though it does absorb into the mouth and skin, like plenty of other things. I'm not totally against flouride either. 98% of West Europe doesn't use fluoride, and they generally have far better teeth than here in infamous bad teeth, and generally awful health America. Denmark officially has the best teeth in the world, according to reports. Japan has far better teeth, especially with NASA giving them nano-hydroxyapatite, which Dasher says is inferior to flouride, even though peer-reviewed studies say it's the same strength or better for teeth. So, the education there is pretty bad. At least Japan, among other advances in health and intelligence over America, is very close to regrowing teeth with stem cells, probably by 2025, several reports say. It's blatantly better to have brand-new teeth than none or fillings. Even after those two issues, I still was willing to go back there. However, the issue with veganism occurs, and this is problematic for anyone with allergies, or any religion, which a dentist place could be used for. I'm prescribed antibiotics, which I really didn't want since loads of peer-reviewed studies of my Russian roots, American studies, and so forth point to garlic being a far better antibiotic than synthetic antibiotics, since it doesn't kill good bacteria, and doesn't build tolerance, unlike synthetic ones (which about 80% of synthetic ones go towards animal agriculture). My mom had her first son pick it up. We trusted this office to handle the appropriate antibiotics, which turned out to be in poor outcome of a half-ass dentist office. The pharmacy won't take back an unopened bag and unopened bottle of pills. I addressed my concerns to the office in two emails. One email was on July 28th, addressing fluorosis, and the other info of Denmark, and so forth. I provided loads of screenshots to validate my claims. It was actually a favor to them so they're aware. No thank you. No reply. No call. No text. August 1st, I email them about the prescription, and the severity of how it can impact people of allergies, religions, and vegans. No reply. I texted them, too. September 11th (wow, a day I witnessed the news of in Florida in my middle school days, and I was in a plane to NJ and back to Florida, seeing the towers only from above) they sent a letter without any reimbursement, without any apology, and says we cannot see you unless an emergency, along with other nonsense. I don't want them to harass me with letters. $6+ to send me a letter. They won't even send emails. Ironically, again, their email at the bottom of the silly letter. It takes them over a month to get back to me. You want to talk about incompetent, and narcissistic of an office. I will be leaving reviews with evidence on various parts of online. I let the oral surgeon he recommended know again like last time. Incompetent and uncaring office. It's good that this place isn't the only place around for dental in Arden/Asheville.
