I was handed back my card and told my coverage was verified. As they stated that payment was needed before the root canal was performed, I was told to put it on a credit card and get reimbursement from my insurance. I then proceeded to have the work done. As the reimbursement did not arrive after a considerable amount of time I contacted Dr. Bergmans office to see if they had received the payment. I was then informed that they do not take any insurance in their practice, it's cash only. I was stunned and asked why they didn't inform me of this at the time when I was asking for insurance verification prior to the procedure as I made it quite clear that I intended to use my funds from my plan. I would have gone elsewhere of course. The front office receptionist simply continued to state that they didn't accept any insurance and that was that. Now I understood why they insisted I put it on a credit card. A few days later I called the office and asked to speak to Dr Bergman. I explained what had transpired and asked that he would in the very least refund a portion of my $2,000. He refused. I'm a senior living on social security and this was an incredible financial crisis for me. I don't have any complaints regarding the work done but feel I was blatantly mislead and lied to for my business. Shame on Dr. Bergman. It's hard to imagine that this office is so greedy and heartless.

However, I was leaving after the root canal procedure when they hit me up for nearly $1500 out-of-pocket stating that I must now file my own claim with insurance. They gave me all documentation I needed including a stamped envelope yet they would not file for me and bill me for the balance. Nothing like luring you in all nice then saying PAY UP NOW! I didn't have a dentist in Asheville yet, so I searched around for one with good reviews. I was able to get an appointment very quickly, and Dr. Peterson did a great job with the filling. I ended up making a new patient appointment after that, and my teeth were cleaned, X-rayed and photographed at angles I never knew existed. They don't cut corners here! I've since had some 10-year-old fillings replaced by Dr. Peterson, as well as new composites on my two front teeth where the old ones had chipped. The composite repair took several tries because of difficulties matching my tooth color, but they made it right with no extra charges. I have been blown away by the amazing customer service at this practice, and the overall kindness and awesomeness from everyone I've interacted with here. Price wise- well, I didn't comparison shop, but I'm thinking the prices here are about average for a high quality dentist. You get what you pay for. This place is worth it!

I wish I could tell you the quality of their dentist, but the train wreck of their internal…read moreoperations staff and their inappropriate procedures kept me from even seeing their dentist. Three months before my first appointment I asked them to check my insurance coverage because it's out of state. They refused and said that they would do that a month before the appointment ... if I reminded them. I did remind them at the one-month mark, and they could not navigate my insurance company's authorization process. My previous dentist had been doing it fine for four years so it's squarely a problem at Embark Dental. Three days before the appointment they asked me to send pictures of my insurance card, which I did. But it wasn't until the morning of the appointment that they texted me to say that they (mistakenly) thought my insurance only covered medical. That's an odd assumption considering that my insurance company had been paying my dental bills for the previous four years. When I arrived at their office, they still had not managed the simple navigation of a Blue Shield insurance agency. They wanted me to give them a credit card. They were basically saying that since they were so incompetent that they could not determine that I was actually covered for dental, they wanted to be able to tag my credit card to cover their inabilities. Then they wanted to digitize my driver's license. I am a former designated security officer for the Air Force, I have spent my whole life in high tech, and I know that digitized IDs are the new form of ID theft. When I declined to let them digitize my driver's license, they said that would be a requirement. I left. Save yourself the problem of leaving their office by not going there to begin with. You'll also save yourself a ton of unnecessary aggravation.
