I'm unsure how this spot has so many good reviews. Went here on a Saturday morning and was looking forward to some really good ceviche. I had no idea that the shrimp would be black and 100% raw. It had a slight hue of pink as if they tried to cook it. And it wasn't chopped it was like shredded, so every bite you took was stringy - it was just horrible. I know that some people like things raw but others don't, maybe asking how we like our shrimp cooked could've been an option? Not only that but the flavor was so bland. I had the popular dish Camarones Culichis. It came with some salad and rice. It tasted pretty good. Creamy and garlicky, but they were skimpy with the shrimp. We also had the shrimp cocktel, a fish taco and fish ceviche. I found all were skimpy on the main ingredient, the shrimp and the fish. Unfortunate because flavor-wise they were spot-on. Stopped here after visiting the used book store next door and had a really good lunch. My wife and I split a couple of fish tacos and ceviche tostadas. Everything tasted great and the fish had a fresh taste and texture to it. The restaurant was filled to capacity, and had people outside waiting to get in. In a nutshell, the last few times we have been here, the waitresses will bring food out at random times leaving people in your party almost done with some just getting their food. But today was the worse... my husband and mom ordered tacos and I ordered a ceviche tostada. They got their food and my tostada never came! No waitress came by for me to ask where my food was! But they were quick to serve the table full of guys ordering rounds of beer, that's for sure... I thought this was a restaurant, not a pub? A popular mariscos location, but overrated if you ask me, a mile north of Chapman University. Solid but somewhat limited mariscos menu. Service can be frustrating and a bit of an issue. It is painstakingly slow and inattentive. Their signature marlin fish taco ($3.20) is worth trying. The meat has a taste and texture similar to tuna but sweeter and slightly stronger flavor. Unquestionably the best item on their menu that includes shrimp taco ($2.50), fish taco ($2.50), in addition to other traditional mariscos items like seafood tostadas, shrimp cocktails and ceviche. The marlin taco is piled on a pan-fried thickly shelled tortilla - along with crema, shredded cabbage and salsa fresca - then folded in half. A novelty item (since it is not located in a seaport city) for sure but well worth the $3.20. Both the fish and shrimp tacos are tasty but nothing too special. They almost seem like an afterthought to me. People generally come here for the marlin taco. Those foolishly hoping to find a non-seafood item do not have many options. The chicken nuggets are a joke - $4.99 for probably store bought (and previously frozen) nuggets along with fries. Service, as I mentioned, is a real turn-off. While certainly not at all contentious, they are unapologetic for making its customers wait. This seems to be an constant issue whether you come at a busy time or not. I cannot jump on the bandwagon of fans here. Not understanding the love affair people have with this place. Aside from the marlin tacos, there are better spots for mariscos. read more

Aguachile did have some fresh shrimp but they missed out on the "chile" part as it tasted kind of flavorless and not spicy at all. Michelada taste like a big cup of chamoy, lime, salt, salt and iced water.. if you don't like the taste of beer and you love chamoy and high blood pressure these micheladas are for you. Finally the oysters.. everything was ok until I take the last one down and i realized that it was bad.. really bad. As a restaurant your #1 priority is food safety, food doesn't have to be liked by all but making sure your food is safe so it doesn't hurt somebody is a requirement. I am not the type to complain about food to try and not pay for the dish, you either earn my return business or you don't. That's what i wanted! octopus is such a tricky protein. It was not well seasoned, bland. But they come with plenty of limes and tapatio if you like. I personally mixed the ceviche de pescado and this one and it was great. - - - Molcajete $13 - i bought these to go, and it was a big container full of raw and cooked shrimp, octopus, one oyster, abalone, and aguachile. It was great and so healthy. All dishes came with gorgeous, unbruised avocado slices. Comes with the wrapped tostadas so they dont get soggy, a baggie of limes and plenty of tapatio. Cheap, fresh, healthy! definitely need to come back for the infamous marlin taco. Service extremely friendly and fast. I see why they are among the best ceviches in the OC (many articles name them, that's how i found it) Parking easy, it's within a parking lot. We come here maybe once a month. Today it was pretty busy. We walked in we got seated right away love their promptness. Their food was delicious as always. The one thing that really bugged me there was a waitress seating in front of me. I assumed she was done with her shift because she was drinking a beer. She was sitting with two men. She then proceeded to get up and go in the back clock in and started working. While she was working she dropped a tables food on the floor before handing it to them and then we were leaving and she ran into the fire extinguisher and it fell off the wall and on the floor. The decor is very clean, simple decor of black and shades of grays. TVs line each wall with games of baseball and soccer. The service was excellent. The menu is somewhat limited focusing on shrimp cocktail, ceviche, fish tacos, one or two soaps. No beans or rice, chips and salsa. If you're looking for more in fried fish, burrito plates, or fish tostadas, this is not the place. I had a shrimp taco and a fish taco and my wife had the marlin tacos. For some reason they like to burn the tortilla for the marlin tacos. Overall, the tacos were good, not great. The fish was fresh but each table had an array of hot sauces and I think you needed to embellish the tacos with the hot sauces for flavor. This place is known for the ceviche. Good stuff. Cooked not with heat but with lime juice. We had the platter with fish, shrimp and octopus (aguachile con callo de hacha). All very tasty and spicy with the aguachile. Was good to eat with a michelada (a combination of beer, Clamato, sauces and spices). Don't use a straw because you want the spices around the rim. This place rocks!! One of the best mariscos spots in OC. The ceviche and cocteles are always fresh and delicious. Every time I come here, they are always busy, but it is worth the wait. I also enjoy the atmosphere here, family oriented. Unlike some places I have been to, where it is just loud and obnoxious with a live band in the background and served mediocre food. I am SO glad I found this place! It's super tiny inside but well worth the wait if you're bringing a good amount of people. The seafood is delicious and always fresh. To be honest, the seafood isn't exactly why I choose this place. They make the best Micheladas I've ever had. Usually I am disappointed in places that offer a Michelada because they just don't taste as good as homemade ones but this place kills it!!!! The micheladas here are the right amount of lemony and the mix they put in is just delicious. I was shocked that I didn't need to add anything to mine when I first came here. So yes, they are perfect in my opinion and well worth it. The food is amazing too and I believe they have live music (not too sure). Just be aware that they have all seafood there is no carne. read more
