Aguachiles! Not on the menu, but we asked and they delivered!
Quin V.

Love this family owned restaurant! This has been my go to Mexican restaurant for years and it always hits the spot for authentic food! The margaritas, with the chamoy rim, brings me back every time. Soooo good! It's not too sweet and the chamoy gives the margarita a salty sweet balance. I've come on different occasions and have ordered different items on the menu. Yesterday, I ordered their molcajete and was overjoyed by everything in it -- from the cheese (queso panela) to the grilled steak, chorizo, nopales to the bulby onions... EVERYTHING was full of flavor and had the perfect texture! My bf and I also ordered aguachiles. We noticed it wasn't on the menu, so we figured it wouldn't hurt to ask and they made a special order for us! It's my absolute favorite over ceviche. I believe it was Senior Gonzalez who helped us. He was super attentive and made us feel so welcomed! He gave us an extra side of rice and a round of shots just because! He even went out to get ingredients to make us the aguachiles! He absolutely went above and beyond!! And the final product was phenomenal. It was pretty spicy, but balanced out perfectly with the fresh tostadas. Ambiance is your traditional mom and pop shop. Located in a small/medium sized parking lot. Feels private when you turn in. Good sized location, clean and everything is served fresh -- including the chips and salsa! 10/10 coming back! I'm ready for another margarita!!

Enchiladas de Mole (IMPORTED) combo

It's always a wonderful surprise to stumble across an amazing new place (well, new for me). This tiny, humble, hidden casual eatery is home to some of Orange County's best Mexican food. The service is super friendly and prompt. The environment is simple and relaxed. Their huge menu has plenty of favorites and lots of less common dishes, as well. I had the Enchiladas Mole stuffed with fresh shredded chicken, wrapped in a moist tortilla and topped with their amazing sweet mole sauce. My dining companion enjoyed the massive Wet Chile Verde Burrito (actually only half, it was so big) with marinated pork and a mildly spicy, flavorful sauce. The refreshing horchata was perfectly sweetened. Can't wait to return soon!

Gonzalez's hits the spot!! My friends and I came in end of March because I was craving Mexican food, and turns out they have $1.25 Taco Tuesdays! My friends ordered their normal "go-to" tacos of carne asada and al pastor, but the server (who also doubled as the cashier) recommended the cochinita pibil tacos and they ended up being the favorites! Each table comes with chips and salsa I ordered the chile verde plate (I think it was about $18) and it was delicious! The pork was super tender and the chile verde was bright and punchy. I added some squeezes of lime bc I'm a tart girl and it was perfect! The size was super filling; I normally finish all my food but had to take some to go. Oh, the rice and beans were amazing too! Also, my friend ordered the birria fries and oooo, I love that they use the skinny fries!! That's when you knooow they'll hit the spot

Just an amazing Pambazo - Papa con Chorizo! Get that sandy in your mouth ASAP!

Five stars, again. Service was great. Even though the place was full, on a Wednesday at lunch, the lone server was efficient and friendly. NICE! The Pambazo Papa con Chorizo is out of this world even though this is only the second one I've ever had. My first was here 1 year ago! Glad I had to come nearby for an errand I was running. I was so excited to have the chance to try this again. Immediately after sitting down I was brought a basket of chips and some salsa. Crispy warm chips and a delicious salsa that I wanted to take home!! The Pambazo is a messy sandwich to eat and I had red enchilada sauce all over my hands. I used 8 napkins and there is still a faint red tinge on some parts of my hands. Get it with the lettuce and cheese. Bread is fresh. Chorizo so tasty. Potatoes give it a great flavor and texture. I don't know what the sauces are that are served along side, but both are very tasty. One a res hot sauce and one like a creamy avocado. YUM! I asked for a refill of Diet Pepsi and the server came back with a huge to-go cup. Great service again! Come out and give it a try. It is so good you will try to find me and thank me in person. Go. Eat Well. HAVE FUN!

These are the places I love - hole in the wall family run places. It's very much a home cooking kind of place. They have a wide variety of dishes with some things you don't see often like pambazos, pibil, sopes and huaraches. A group of us dined for lunch and enjoyed a variety of dishes. I had heard good things about their shrimp quesadillas so tried the garlic shrimp version. With the cheese it was like a big taco gobernador. My wife had enchiladas with both red and green sauce (Christmas!). The red was deep in flavor and the green definitely had a kick. Everything had a light fresh taste. At the end we were surprised with the gift of a plate of freshly made chicarrones. A nice treat and much appreciated. They had 3 tablespoons of salsas served with the chips. One was a typical fresh salsa, but in smaller bottles were a spicy habanero? Salsa and my favorite, the jalapeño crema. We'll definitely be back.

Like nothing I've had before! Mexico City sandwich called Pambazo! It's delicious! Huge and perfect for two to share! Choice of meat and I ordered the cochinito pibil and it was yummy! Great friendly service too Came after lunch rush and Before dinner! Perfect timing! AC hit the spot on a hot summer day!

My husband and I have been coming here for years. It's owned by a lovely family who always provide excellent service. The food is amazing. We plan on coming for many years to come!

Finally tried Gonzalez Restaurant after years on my Yelp bookmark list and it did NOT disappoint! Their pambazos were everything I hoped for and the chilaquiles verdes were delicious too! Plus, the service was perfect. Worth the wait

Let's start with the show stopper- the shrimp quesadilla! The shrimp quesadilla was sooo good! It was loaded with cheese and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. And you get a lot of shrimp. My fiancé said it was the best shrimp quesadilla he has ever had. And I agree, it was great! 10/10 The cheese enchiladas with avocado added were great! Super cheesy and had good flavor. I also added eggs for more protein, and that really made this dish delicious!! 10/10 I will definitely be back. This place was amazing.

Wow, this place is amazing. I can't believe it's so close by and I'm barely trying it. It's kinda hidden, like you might miss it driving down Chapman but you need to give it a try! My husband got the pambazo chorizo and I got 3 street tacos - chicken, steak, and pastor. We also split the mixed seafood soup. Everything was amazing, service was also good, our person greeted us with a smile and seemed happy to help us the entire time. The restaurant is spacious and clean. We will come back!

Hidden gem! The restaurant is super clean which I admire. The service is top notch and everyone's very friendly. The horchata and the Tamarindo were excellent- the best I've had in awhile. I almost got some to go because it was so good. The food was very good and cooked fresh. Good flavor on the meat and salsa. I'll definitely be back - highly recommend you stop by, you won't regret it!! :)

The Gonzalez's enchiladas

Everything was tasty! The service is a 10/10 ! Lots of delicious choices!! The place is very clean and welcoming!

Excellent food in a friendly, clean family restaurant. Had the child verde plate and carne asada burrito, and both were delicious. $5 beers and appetizers for Cinco de Mayo.

The crowd alone caught our attention, so we decided to give it a try -- and I'm glad we did. Atmosphere: The moment we walked in, the vibe immediately stood out. It has a charming vintage feel, with beautiful natural sunlight pouring in, making the whole space warm and cozy. Perfect for a relaxing weekend brunch or a casual meal with family and kids. Here are the dishes we highly recommend: Guacamole & Chips Absolutely addictive. The guacamole was fresh, creamy, and packed with flavor. We couldn't stop eating it. Steak Plate The steak was cooked perfectly tender, and the juicy corn underneath soaked up all the delicious flavors. Every bite felt satisfying. Pulled Pork Tacos Super authentic Mexican-style tacos with rich layers of flavor. The combination of refried beans and avocado sauce made them even better. A few small notes: The restaurant was extremely busy, so the staff seemed a little overwhelmed at times. Service was okay overall, but understandable considering how packed it was. Coffee lovers: Their coffee leaned a bit on the sweeter side for us, so if you prefer less sweetness, it's worth mentioning when ordering. Overall, such a fun and lively brunch spot in Old Towne OC. Definitely worth trying if you're in the area!

Nothing pre-made, everything crafted fresh and customized to your liking, and you can absolutely taste the difference. It's tucked off Katella across from the TJ Maxx and Smart & Final center, with parking and entrance in the back. Once inside, you're welcomed by such a friendly team. The space has two dining rooms, a cozy bar at the entrance, and a cute little street-facing patio. We kicked things off with the Picchu and La Diabla cocktails. The Picchu was crisp, refreshing, and light. Super easy to sip. The Diabla had a subtle spicy kick that kept things interesting while still refreshing. For food, we started with the ceviche mixto without octopus, and wow. The citrusy lime flavors were bright and fresh, perfectly balanced with sweet plantain chips on the side. The portion was huge, easily enough for three to four people. Next was the mixed Lomo Saltado. It was packed with flavor, though the chicken leaned a bit dry for me. I would probably go all-in on the beef or shrimp next time. The shrimp were huge. Then came the ribeye tacos and I'm not exaggerating when I say I was in love. The beef was cooked to perfection. Juicy, tender, and every bite felt like a moment. We also ordered extra plantains because these flavors just call for it. Crispy, sweet, and so satisfying. My second drink, the Oye Mi Amore, was a standout for me. I love guava and this one delivered. Now let's talk about the experience because it really made the night. When another server came to box up our food, we didn't catch his name, but he turned a simple paper bag into a whole luxury experience and had us laughing nonstop. Our server then asked about dessert. Of course we said yes since it was date night. She surprised us with a complimentary churro. While we waited, she brought out tequila shots. Totally unexpected and so smooth. Then the churro arrived and it was unlike any I've had. Light, airy, and delicate instead of dense, with just the perfect sweetness. The whipped cream was soft and cloud-like and paired beautifully. As if that wasn't enough, she came back again with another round, this time in snifter glasses with a darker tequila that was rich and incredibly smooth. We never felt rushed. We were just genuinely taken care of the entire time. For the two of us, the total came out to $145, which felt more than fair for the quality and experience. We will 100% be back, and next time we are bringing family and friends. Huge thank you to the staff for making this such a fun and memorable night.

The carnitas themselves are the star--tender, juicy pork that's been slow-cooked to perfection with that signature crispy edge on some pieces, delivering rich, savory flavor without being overly greasy. It's seasoned just right, with a nice balance of porky goodness and subtle spices that let the meat shine. Wrapped in a large, fresh flour tortilla (they make their own in-house, which always helps), it's stuffed generously with the classics: fluffy Mexican rice, creamy refried or whole beans (depending on your preference, but both work great), chopped onions, cilantro, and a solid dose of salsa. I went with their green salsa for a bright, tangy kick that cuts through the richness perfectly, plus a dollop of sour cream and cheese for that creamy melt. No skimping on portions here--it's hearty and filling, easily a meal that satisfies for hours. At around $10 (give or take, based on current pricing), it's a great value in the area. The burrito holds together well without falling apart mid-bite, and the overall balance of textures--tender meat, soft rice/beans, crisp onions--makes every mouthful enjoyable. If you're in the mood for classic carnitas done right in a casual, bakery-taqueria spot with great salsas and a friendly vibe, this one's definitely worth grabbing. I'd rate it 4.5 out of 5--only docking half a point because it's not reinventing the wheel, but it's executing the traditional style exceptionally well.
