I have been coming to this hidden gem for years. It has always been authentic tasting and delicious. The drinks are very good, however, the cantarito is a CLASSIC! My favorite dishes include mojarra frita, camarones à la diabla, and the shrimp empanadas. Sometimes, there's a groupo playing and it serves as great entertainment. The only thing I will mention is that the upholstery on the seats and each table is pretty worn. Restaurant could use minor updates, but the food is worth the experience. It's been at least 5 years since I've tried this place and I really loved my meal this last visit! Located off Oak St, you will find this seafood spot and make sure to check them out if you looking to have mariscos for lunch/dinner. Went with my wife for lunch and they were packed at 3pm on a Thursday. We did get a table right away and our server was so nice and helpful! We ordered the camarones empanizados and that meal was a 10/10! Fresh shrimp, cooked to perfection. I think I made like 5 tacos out of this dish for $15 bucks, not bad at all. I ordered the gobernador tacos and I will not look at shrimp tacos the same. I've had them at taco trucks, but this place was bomb! I would highly recommend the gobernador tacos! We love this place and service has definitely got better. Food is always delicious and so tasty. The ambiance is quite loud due to the jukebox and singers that come to your table to play songs you request. They are pretty fast with food after you order and do get busy. The music is live after 6 pm and is attention grabbing .This restaurant is family oriented and is amazing for group celebrations. My husband went for some drinks with friends here and brought me a to go order of shrimp cocktail home. I was so excited since it is one of my favorites. After bragging to my coworkers all day about my lunch, I bring out the styrofoam container and all the fixings. They did not skimp on the fixings! It had tiny limes, ketchup and Tapatio packets, salt, saltine crackers, tostada shells and a good, deep spoon-perfect for cocktails and soups! I got my cocktail all doctored up and was juuuust about to scoop a huge portion into my watering mouth when I seen it...the black, nasty, dreaded vein down the back of the shrimp! I was pissed and seriously thought about tossing the whole container straight into the trash but I was so hungry. So I began to take each one out and cut the veins out of all 15 shrimp. I should have begun this review by stating that I seldom get shrimp dishes from restaurants because of this very thing...I hate to have to use my hands to cut out the veins or cut the tails off of shrimp once the meal is cooked. Plus I feel like if I'm paying good money, that is something that should be done before it makes it to my plate! I just don't understand how a restaurant thinks it is okay to have the vein stay in the shrimp when they know what it is, or keep the tails on when they know you aren't supposed to eat them! Anyway I cleaned each one of the shrimp and washed them off, which also washed all the flavor away. Needless to say after I finished cleaning them all and put them back into the cocktail I was not only disgusted but no longer hungry. read more

Who knew such an awesome Marsicos place could be found in Bakersfield?! it's great!! My last trip here, I made my parents stop on our way to LA. The service is great, the location is clean (bathrooms are kept locked and clean too!) it has a beautiful interior and is hand painted with images of the sea. For the food, I recommend the shrimp empanadas as a starter. The pink sauce that comes with it is similar to a chipotle mayo kind of sauce (but better) and the green sauce is pretty much like a blended Chile-so if you don't like spicy-beware!! I had and LOVED the shrimp cocktail. Huge shrimp and tons of it, and a great flavor. Served with crackers. My mom had a mojarra frito (fried tilapia) and she loved it.
