Everytime I am in the Bay Area, this restaurant is the best stopping point for some good ceviche with tostadas. Service was incredibly fast and there were lots of seating when it was raining. The portion size was huge too, so I recommend eating at least 2 for the ladies. read more

Beware of this place you might want to go somewhere else to avoid getting sick. Sunday we bought a couple of the tostadas mixtas to go, when I got home I uncovered the lid they smelled horrible. They smelled like straight up ass. I couldn't tell if it's the shrimps that where bad or the octopus it all smelled bad. They know those shrimps where not good because you could smell that as soon as you uncover the lid it has that strong smell but its obvious the restaurant doesn't want to lose money that's why they rather sell spoiled seafood. Always check your food, lucky for them I was already in Hayward so I was unable to go back and return them the food it just ended up in the trash. read more

This doesn't apply to most foods. But when it comes to burritos, once I find places I like, rarely will I be adventurous and try a taqueria I've never been to. Because why take a chance of being disappointed? Why waste 1000 calories eating something mediocre? That being said, this Shelter-in-place has closed down over half of the taquerias on International Blvd in Oakland. My go-to taquerias were all closed, so driving down International I landed in front of Mariscos La Costa. I thought to myself, ok, "Mariscos". So they must specialize in seafood. From the pics it looks like they carry ceviche and different items from regular Taquerias. But I had my heart set on a Al Pastor Burrito and a Steak quesadilla. Al Pastor Burrito: the burrito is a decent size at the fair price of $8. The taste was ok but they go really heavy on the onions. You know how Nations is famous for the pile of raw onions they put in their burgers? Well I actually like that refreshing crunch of onions in my burger. But in my burrito, I thought it was overbearing. Made it taste like I ordered an onion burrito. Steak Quesadilla: my wife ate this item. She said it was ok. Nothing special or memorable for her. Based on just visually for me, it looked disappointing from other Taqueria's quesadillas I've seen. In a pinch, I say go to Mariscos La Costa. It's not the best but it passable and the prices are lower than most if not all other Taquerias. That makes it a place worth trying at least once, and possibly a second time when a Worldwide Pandemic threatens to wipe out earth's entire population. read more

My friend and I drove out to East Oakland for lunch. I was in the mood for shrimp cocktail, and lo and behold, fhe shrimp cocktail at this location was delicious. However, it was Mexican style shrimp cocktail, which is full of fresh ingredients like tomato, cilantro lemon and chiles and very different from American style shrimp cocktail which only has ketchup, lemon and horseradish. The portions were good the service quick, it comes with yummy homemade tortilla chips. My only complaint is that it would be nice not to have disposabletableware and bowls. So I will probably go there again, but I'll bring my own picnic ware and take what they give me and put it into picnic style deeper dish. It wouldn't go on the flat plate. read more

Got the agua chile con camarones to go. Pretty tasty, but the sauce seems like they put ketchup in it, which for agua chile is weird to me. Fresh tasting and lots of little shrimps. I don't think they marinate the shrimp in citrus juice beforehand, as the shrimps were raw raw when I first got the cocktail. Top Taqueria Alert! I'm always on the prowl for the Top Taquerias in the bay. This one makes the top five easy. In a word Mariscos La Costa is flavorful. In two words: fricken amazing. I ordered a chicken burrito, a chicken quesadilla, and two chicken tacos (can you tell I like chicken). I wasn't expecting much flavor from the quesadilla but it was delicious. It had ripe tomatoes, and savory cheesy chicken. I couldn't get enough of it. The burrito was spicy and mouthwateringly good as well. The staff are quick here. We ordered four full menu items total. I have researched, I should not have even been eating Octopus also, because of my allergies, but I had a friend raving about how much she loved octopus and I had to try it for myself. Ceviche is king at Mariscos, while I found the Mexican fare to be average. However, let's get a few things out in the open: 1) It is cheap as hell. Eat like said king for about $10 and be full for days. 2) If you want an authentic experience, you will find it here, and I'm not talking about that all inclusive resort to Cancun. This is reminiscent of the small beach towns I visited while spending a month backpacking through Mexico. The carne asada burrito was stringy and tasteless with no homemade tortillas found here. An ultimate fail. The al pastor tacos were solid, again I prefer those tortillas homemade. It's the little things. The star of the show: the ceviche tostadas were delicious and plentiful. The shrimp did have those grey veins, but it was about $4, I get it. At the end of the day, it was fresh and that's all that matters. Outside seating only and cash only at this super casual cevicheria. Order at the counter, find a seat, grab your food and enjoy. Definitely a solid spot that is a taste of the real Mexico. The eating area is outside tables with 5 different kind of hot sauces on it. The menu is pretty simple and the food is ready fast. The line is usually 4 or 5 deep. Paper plates, plastic forks and trays. Mariscos La Costa is my new "goto" Taco spot.I rate taco spots based on the quality of their Al Pastor and their's is outstanding.Not too sweet as some can be with the addition of too much pineapple but just spicy enough and very tender meat.The Asada is also crazy good ! I have not tried the tostada's yet but they look great .... topped with Shrimp,Crab and some looked like they might have had octopus ! You can also get any meat you'd like on them. They also have Oysters on the half shell ! The food did come out quick, I guess too quick cause they didn't even cook it. Also ordered Carne asada burrito and two tacos. At least those were cooked. The burrito had very little meat inside. Mainly cilantro and rice. I guess that's what you pay for, for 3.75. Tacos were a dollar each. Nothing special. Never order the shrimp unless you wanna die! There's better places for Mexican. I use to love coming here for years .. But today we had an unpleasant visit ! My family and I came for lunch here and we spent more then $150 and we had bought several plates overall food wasn't as bad in flavor but we did not like the service ! The ladies taking the orders at the register were very impatient and messed up our order twice! They now charge $1 for 3 saltine crackers and only gave us 1 and 2 tostadas with our xtra large coctel de camaron. When we went to ask for some extra salsa as we had bought several tacos and tortas one of the cashiers only gave us 1 so I asked for another and she had a horrible attitude and gave me another one.
