What a great place for some seafood. We came in towards the end of the night and glad we did! The servers and the atmosphere of the place was so friendly that I knew it was going to be a good time. Our group was so hungry and we ordered multiple orders of the cucarachas! It was amazing and couldn't stop eating them! It maybe a little messy but well worth it! The bacon wrapped jalapeños also hit the spot! Overall loved the place and the food! I heard on the weekends they have live music so even more of a reason to come! This place was amazing. I was craving ceviche and it was a big portion and hit the spot! The mango margarita was delicious also, and they had a live singer who was great. We come down to Palm desert every summer and this spot is a MUST visit every trip. We love the ambiance, the food, and the service provided!! Our favorites are the camarones cucarachas!!! Avoid this place at all costs! This place is an absolute disgrace to Mexican food. The "carne asada" tasted like it had been boiled in dishwater, the tortillas were stiff as cardboard, and the guacamole had the gray tint of something that's been sitting out for days. My "fresh" salsa was lukewarm and had the unmistakable tang of canned tomato puree. The service was just as bad--our server vanished for half an hour after taking our order, then returned smelling strongly of cigarettes and handed us the wrong food. When I pointed it out, I got an eye roll and a sigh. Even worse, I saw one of the kitchen staff handling food with bare hands right after wiping their nose. The floor was sticky, the bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned all week, and there was a suspicious sour odor drifting out of the kitchen. I left feeling sick to my stomach--literally--and spent the rest of the night regretting every bite. Avoid this place like the plague. You're better off eating gas station nachos! read more

Sites for the first time. I ordered the garlic and butter shrimp. My dad got the camarones de Luna (I think with cheese?). Complementary chips and salsa. Salsa has a nice kick but not damaging. :-) Both of us finished our meal. Well, he had half and saved the rest. Plus he got a mango margarita that was drained. Server gave a thumbs up for his order of the toast. I got tortillas. Both fresh. That was Texas toast. Big slab of soft bread with butter and garlic. Good for dipping in my butter garlic sauce after my tortillas were done. Apparently they have bands a few days of the week too. Will try again next time in the area. read more

The best Mariscos in town hands down. Delicious sea food, chiles, sushi, drinks and especially their Langostinos. Every time we come to Indio we stop here before heading back to Los Angeles. Had lunch around 1pm with a friend while we did some errands. Gloria is a great server with great personality we had a few laughs. Cantaritos here are always 10/10! Salsa and chips 10/10. We decided to go with the Molcajete Ranchero, this includes steak, chicken, shrimp stuffed chiles wrapped in bacon (kind of a chile guaritos), nopal, more green peppers, green onion, chorizo, cheese stuffed peppers, all the peppers lol. But it was great, dont let the red sauce fool you it's mainly the chorizo that gives it that color and flavor. Its not crazy spicy either. Definitely coming back again soon! read more

Family comes here whenever in town they love all the seafood choices. This was our first time visiting El Capitan, and Rafael made the experience unforgettable! From the moment we were seated, he was warm, welcoming, and attentive without ever feeling rushed. He took the time to recommend some of their most popular items, which turned out to be absolutely delicious; clearly he knows the menu inside and out. What really stood out was how genuine he was. Rafael not only made sure we were taken care of throughout the meal, but also encouraged us to come back and try more dishes in the future. Shout out to David, Mavel and honestly everyone that works there! They provided some of the best restaurant service I have experienced. Came to Coachella for the weekend and I 100% recommend you come here before, during or even after the festival! A gem in the desert is found at Marisco's El Capitan in Coachella on Harrison Street! The cucarachas (grilled shrimp) were world class with an addictive seasoning blend. They were served on an oval platter over a bed of rice and ringed with very fresh salad greens. Anxious to go back but plan your timing carefully as it is packed during traditional eating hours. The Sunday lunch crowd was just leaving at 1:15 pm and we were promptly seated without delay. Gloria, our waitress, was delightful. What an absolute gem of the Coachella Valley. Took the drive over to Mariscos El Capitan based on a recommendation of a friend and boy was I impressed. The shrimp ceviche was truly spectacular, coupled with both a shrimp and octopus taco. And don't forget the thirst quenching margarita! Great suggestion by David H a very attentive server. The food was great! We had a Coctel champechana and a sushi roll, the Sinaloa one. The salsa was not spicy and one of our guest wasn't eating an entree just wanted chips and salsa and they charged us like $10. First time I have been charged for that at a restaurant. Avoid this place at all costs. The pulpo ah la diabla I ordered tastes like cardboard. The rice tastes as dough it was just microwaved. I also ordered a tuna tostada, but it had no flavor at all. Nobody approached us to see if we needed anything. I simply paid my bill, left the pulpo dish, and headed out. I sit on the toilet and writing this review. After eating there, I can't get rid of my stomach ache. I'm debating calling OASHA or someone else to check the food temperatures. Seriously. read more

We were seaters right away the place was very authentic with beautiful Mexican music playing our Waitress Ivette was super attentive and caring. The food arrived super fast and it was so delicious! We given a choice of a booth or a table. We selected a table. BIL was facing three different TV monitors. He was in sports mode. Dinner - * both sis & BIL ordered bento boxes * both hubby & I ordered sushi combo - six nigiri's, six slices sashimi, and eight pieces of California roll. The sashimi is chef's choice. Tonight was salmon & ahi. Both were very fresh. We all enjoyed our dinner choices. Service was very attentive, efficient, and friendly. Parking was plenty in the strip mall.

The girl who served us was very nice and served dish after dish; timing the service of our food perfectly. This is saying alot, since we're a bit picky about our sushi--having had sushi fresh from the local fishermen in Tahiti and Hawaii. To be honest, I was a little skeptical about finding fresh, quality sushi in the desert, but we were pleasantly surprised and impressed! We will definitely be back to Sushi On!

Would rather hold out for better sushi options than settle for someplace that's just average. For context solid sushi spots in the desert are hard to come by, understandably. La Quinta actually has two of my favorites BUT they are only open for dinner hours. So I've been on the search for solid sushi spots that have lunch hours. Being that Sam's Sushi was open for lunch and has moderate reviews, thought that they were worth a try. The ambiance of the spot is basic. There was a proper sushi bar which I could appreciate and the restaurant was spacious. My biggest issues were cleanliness and freshness. The tables weren't clean enough for my preference (soy sauce containers were sticky and the plate they sit on hadn't been cleaned for a while). Also I found the temperature inside to be a little too warm, which is always a red flag to me when dealing with seafood. The reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2 stars is the staff were friendly. Despite being busy they had me seated quickly and also food was at a good pace. One of my drinks was forgotten by the server but he was kind and apologized about it, so not a big deal. As again, they were busy. Overall the reason for the lower review is primarily for the food and quality. I ordered a $25 bento box (not quite trusting or committing to larger sushi rolls) and was still underwhelmed. The best part of my meal was the miso soup and California roll. The California roll was average but tasty. However, the other two box options were meh. The mixed tempura had hits and misses. Tempura shrimp was decent. However, the veggies were too thick - so the batter to veggie ratio was off. Still edible though. The bummer with the bento box was the sushi and salad. Salad had barely any dressing, and not the tasty ginger or sesame dressing that most have - the dressing was so minimal I couldn't even tell you what it was. Also the sushi just didn't taste fresh. The ebi was fine but usually I wouldn't choose this for sushi. The salmon was edible but not super fresh and the yellowtail was stringy and I couldn't eat it. For $25 the plate looked appealing but lacked good flavor/execution. Overall, the place was busy so I'm hopeful they have a good following with locals and I saw a lot of professionals here for a quick lunch break. I just think there are substantially better sushi spots in the desert...I'm spoiled and have lots of good sushi spots at home that this spot wouldn't be one I'd be eager to come to again soon.

This review comes after a terrible experience in the Palm Desert location, where I didn't even…read moreorder after waiting for 45 minutes for service in a completely empty restaurant. I came to this location hoping for better service and to give the food a chance. I have been receiving ads relentlessly for the all-you-can-eat service. To my knowledge, there is no other Sushi restaurant in Coachella Valley that offers this. The restaurant is slightly nicer than the Palm Desert location, although the tables have a sticky coating on them that feels like they are permanently dirty. Overall, it looks worn down and cheap but that's not a problem for me. Knowing that they have a separate menu for the all you can eat, we asked for that menu from the start. Just know that you'll have to cross reference the sheet that you fill out to order and the full menu to know what the food items are. This is very cumbersome, as the all-you-can-eat offerings are much less than the ones in the full menu. We were most disappointed that the sashimi is not offered. For $50 per person, this should not be the case. This is where I should've known that this all-you-can-eat menu is specifically designed to fill you up with the cheap stuff. Every single item that we ordered has a ridiculous amount of rice packed into it. There's so much rice that you have to chew for at least a minute and by that time, what you are ingesting is just a ball with the texture of mochi. Extremely dense and gummy. Any flavor coming from the fish is completely erased by the rice vinegar that the rice is seasoned with. As mentioned in other reviews, you must eat all the rice and everything you order or you'll be charged. By the time we were done eating our first roll, we realized that the amount of rice made the all-you-can-eat not worth it. You're better off buying single rolls for cheaper than the price of AYCE. And if you're doing that, there are much better sushi places than this to go to for the same price. I would be amiss if I didn't mention that my gf had bones in her salmon nigiri and hand roll, and was also found in the eel. She also had to eat each piece of these rolls in several bites because the amount of rice is incredible. I also want to be fair and say that this would've been perfectly acceptable flavor-wise if there wasn't so much rice. It just completely overpowers everything once you chew it. We enjoyed their fries, gyoza, and shumai, which are appetizers and are also part of AYCE. But that's not what you should go to a sushi restaurant imo.
