Service is beyond SLOW. My party and I have been waiting for over 20 minutes on a server to take our drink order. We had great expectations but yet it's a total Fail. We had to make it known that we had been waiting. read more

I finally had the opportunity to try Mariscos Choix on Firestone Blvd in Downey. The restaurant seems to be a popular choice so I was looking forward to a good seafood meal. Upon entering the restaurant I was pleasantly greeted by the staff. The vibe was upbeat with music playing loudly and an inviting dining setup. I am not fluent in Spanish by any means so the Spanish only menu had me guessing about the details of the menu items but I was able to use my phone to access their online dual language menu. Good thing my phone was charged. The menu offerings were mostly unique to me but the server did make some recommendations. There was nothing on the menu that called my attention so I decided to play it safe and order the Marlin empanadas, a side of guacamole and my husband ordered the octopus tacos. There was no iced tea on the menu so instead, I ordered their lemonade. My beverage was very nice. Not your average sweet lemonade. Instead it was subtly sweet and not too acidic. It was refreshing and a perfect accompaniment to the chips and salsa on the table. But sadly, not even their lemonade could put out the fire of the salsa. It was incredibly spicy. I prefer a more medium heat that allows the flavor to come through. But I'm sure many may prefer this more intense heat. The presentation of the Marlin empanadas was nice enough. They were large, fried and simply adorned by sprigs of cilantro and cabbage and a spicy sauce. The fry was well done, not greasy, but the stuffing was meager, mostly cheese with maybe a tablespoon of Marlin in each empanada, and again the spice was too intense for my taste. Overall, I thought this dish was overpriced ($30+) considering how little Marlin was in it. My husband is a big fan of Octopus. He said his octopus was cooked perfectly but unfortunately it was too spicy to enjoy (also overpriced at $30+). Overall, the staff was friendly, the dining setup up was comfortable and lounge like, but the food was just too spicy to enjoy. Lunch for myself and my husband was just under $100 and I left hungry. For me, this is a "one and done." I'm giving them 2 stars for staff and ambiance. read more

The wait time was a little long, but it was worth the wait. The food was on point, everything was full of flavor. The michelada was perfect, and not a small ass cup like some other places try to give you. The service was A1, super friendly and on top of their game. Strongly recommend, will definitely be back. read more

Had lunch here today to celebrate my 40th bday with my cousin. The restaurant is so nice. The food was delicious. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. We ordered lemonade (very fresh and has a hint of lime flavor) shrimp empanadas, Baja fish tacos and the fajitas with steak, shrimp and fish- the fish used in the fajitas is sooo so good seasoned and full of flavor. The outside of the fish is crispy and inside is fluffy and very delicious. Our server Alondra was so nice and helpful during our visit. Honestly the service was some of the best service I've had in a very very long time. She was very attentive and checked on us frequently to ensure everything was good. She was also helpful with helping us pick out food because it was first time we wanted to try some of the most popular items on the menu. After we finished our lunch they also brought me out a ice cream Sundae and sang happy bday. Which was a really nice and unexpected surprise. The Manager Raymond stopped by our table and spoke to us before we left and asked how did we enjoy our visit and how we heard about the restaurant and I told him I found them on yelp thanks to the positive reviews. I'm already planning to bring more people here because we had such a nice experience. Thanks for being apart of birthday celebration Mariscos Choix! read more

The octopus sarandiados tacos were AWESOME! So tasty. Great flavor. Service was great too!

Went to have dinner for my birthday. Arrived on a Saturday night and was seated immediately. The service was excellent. The food was delicious. I had the super campechana and it was amazing. They are very generous with their portions. I didn't have to add anything to it like lemon or ketchup. I would rate the spice level to a 7/10. Keep in mind I can handle spicy food. I would so go back for that. Our server was so sweet. She checked up on us often and every time we requested something, she brought it out quickly. Can't wait to go back. read more

Service A+ Style and atmosphere A+ Food A++ Cleanliness A+ Parking, right next door by the del taco and cvs. This place was lovely, I wasn't expecting it to be so nice here! Pleasantly surprised there was no wait time for two. The food was absolutely delicious. I loved everything we ordered the shrimp. Diablo was very spicy, but very tasty packed with flavor. The tacos were meaty, good size portions. You can get them individually as many as you like. The drinks could have had more alcohol, they were sweet and yummy but I barely tasted any tequila. The lounge outside was so nice, they have very comfortable cushions and pillows. The bathrooms were clean and they even had music playing outside in their back patio. Pretty sure you can dance as well. We were checked on often, not just by our waitress but other staff as well that would bring us water and extra napkins. Very teamlike, made the experience better when you don't have to wait or ask for anything. Over all great experience. Most definitely will be back again. read more

The ambiance is nice for Downey. With the Christmas decorations it's giving department store vibes. I started my Mariscos Choix relationship a few years back at the Pico Rivera location. Hole in the wall but the Best Mexican Food I have ever had! So I'm thinking the Downey location with the remodel will be even better. Sad to say, no. I took a friend here recently and I couldn't stop talking about the golden shrimp tacos & taco gobernador. Unfortunately, the sinaloenses came out soaked in butter but not crispy. So just soggy and both tacos were extremely salty. The flavor profile of the drinks tasted off too. I was embarrassed how much I hyped this place up. And this is my 3rd time at this location, and each time the food got me thinking, it's missing the magic touch. I wish this location spent more time training with the Pico cooks rather than focusing on decor. Even though I live up the street from the Downey location, I don't think I can geek about this restaurant unless it's the Pico location. Please figure out what the cooks are doing over there, and I will be back. read more

My family loved this restaurant. From the moment that we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and were seated by the hostess after waiting for about 10 minutes, despite having a reservation. We enjoyed the inviting and pleasant atmosphere, the natural light, outdoor seating and plants give it a calming and fresh vibe. However, what really made the evening special was our server, Andre. He was absolutely fantastic. He was very professional, had a great sense of humor and was very attentive, he checked in on us often and even got the band to sing to my brother in law for his birthday without us asking. We received our food within 20 minutes of ordering. All the food was delicious, flavorful and beautifully presented. read more

So first of all, the place was under construction but yet professionally displayed for guest to enjoy their meals and live music. We got here on a sunday after noon. There was no wait time for a party of 8, so thats was amazing! The waiter gaves us a couple of recommendations on the menu and we tried it. Loved the service! The food was delicious and the michelada was refreshing. The churros were a tad too sweet but good. Overall great quality foor but the price waa a bit too high for my liking. I dont know if I'd come back again, but overall great food and great service! read more
