Pretty packed for Easter Sunday at 4 pm. Live band that stayed in one spot which was good for our ears. For the most part Comfy sofa seating for the boy. Tostada mixta was really good, fully loaded with seafood, I needed another tostado to eat it. Everyone enjoyed their dishes even the boy who dislikes seafood was able to eat something he liked, he ordered the steak fajitas. The bday man said his mezcal drinks were good and his oyster shots with tequila. We will be back. read more

The patio event charges 22% for guests attending a birthday party. GTFOH! In terms of food, it was mediocre, and I felt like a vulture took advantage of me. Drinks were watered down, stupid music all the time, and they couldn't even get a decent conversation going.. to hell with this place. Food was very good. First time trying this place and didn't know what to expect. The ambiance is kind of fancy and upbeat. They did have live music (banda) on the Sunday I went. Their pulpo tacos are 10/10!!! I can have 20 of those, but they come in sets of 3. The aguachile, the shrimp con ajo were good, and the lemonade with mineral water was good and big portion of lemonade. You can share the lemonade with someone. The shrimp con ajo came with beans and rice. The aguachile (salsa verde), was a bit spicy, but not too crazy. The bathrooms were very nice. Lots of spaces to take "aesthetic" pictures. Great service. A bit pricey, but would come again. The parking lot is across the street and you have to park away from the fast food restaurant in the parking lot, you can ask security where to park. They also had the sports games on. read more

It was hard finding my mom a place to celebrate her birthday that serves good seafood & nice looking. Im so glad I found this place thru Google. Definitely a vibe and loved the aesthetic of the place. Fun & vibrant. The hostess were nice enough to accommodate our seating. For anybody that is looking to come here make sure you join the waitlist on their website bc the place does seem to get pretty busy. That way you won't have to wait long. The drinks we got were pretty delicious & we all enjoyed our plates. My mom's dessert was quite yummy too, lol. Our server Carlos was generous. I mentioned to him it was my mom's birthday and he had banda sing las mañanitas to my mom. I would definitely RECOMMEND coming here for a celebration or even to spend time w/ friends & family. read more

Luckily, we had started the meal with some delicious tacos, so we weren't hungry when we left. I guess tacos are the safe bet to order here. They don't cheap out on drinks or food, and the quality is consistently great. Portions are generous, and you get far more sides and extras here than at most Mexican restaurants in the area. The staff of ladies who work here are phenomenal--warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. There is only one older gentleman I've seen be rude to customers, but aside from that single exception, the service is excellent across the board. I judge Mexican restaurants heavily based on how they make a Cadillac margarita, and this place absolutely delivers. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is perfectly cooked, plentiful, and clearly made with care. For me, this restaurant is a solid five out of five. It's one of those spots that deserves far more credit than it gets. If you're looking for quality, authenticity, and great value, it's worth a visit.

The meal started with complimentary chips served alongside both a sweet mole and a savory, tangy mole sauce. It was something I'd never experienced before, and it was incredibly delicious. I ordered the chicken enmoladas, and they were generously stuffed with chicken and smothered in rich, flavorful mole. Every bite tasted authentic, comforting, and incredibly satisfying. For dessert, our waiter recommended the plantains in tequila sauce paired with a café de olla. They were so amazing that we completely devoured the dessert before I even remembered to take a picture! Service is attentive, the food has its charm with in-house made tortillas. It really was a hard review to write because all the elements of a great restaurant is embodied in this hidden gem. I chalk it up to ordering the wrong items. The flavors did not pop for me. Hubby opted for the chorizo and he said it was decent and he described it as "diet chorizo"--that he'd probably needed to go back to Sinaloa to capture the true essence of "real" chorizo, the way it's meant to be. The star of his meal was the in-house made flour tortillas-now that's authentic! This is/was the reason that it leaned towards a 4 star. These looked and tasted phenomenal. The aroma took me back to the times when we visited Rosarito's Puerto Nuevo, as the lady made the tortillas by hand & pressed them in the comal, ahh, good times. I ordered the vegetarian omelette with beans & potatoes. The omelette was decent with fresh bell peppers & onions but the seasoning was so mild that I requested for salt & pepper. The potatoes appeared well seasoned in color but lacked that oomph that salt & pepper couldn't fix. My apple pancakes were average. While I appreciated the strawberry compote, there was no apple or apple taste in them. To wash everything down, I had cafe de olla, that was good. The aroma of the brown sugar & cinnamon was ever present. Estrella, our server was very welcoming, attentive and friendly, she gets 5 stars for her service with a smile & hospitality. Their lunch & dinner menu looked very appealing but we wanted breakfast items. We wish we were both molé enthusiasts then perhaps we would've better appreciated & enjoyed those offerings. Both indoor & outdoor seating (front & rear), parking is free & shared with their liquor store at this corner small plaza. Beware, no restrooms available. I'm glad we gave this little shop a try.

The unfortunate negative is it's location and I'm referring to parking. There must be 8 business crammed into this lot. With a bar to the right and a laudermat on its left finding a parking spot is like winning the lotto. Now layer in one driveway and you have to make a 3 point turn just to navigate to leave. my goodness people, let me begin with the service of this amazing restaurant! the minute you walk in you are greeted with friendly and welcoming service, makes you feel like a VIP. From dining area to the bar and into the restroom area, very clean and stocked. You can really tell that ownership and management really have their clients in mind. The food is so tasty and and delicious. These guys don't mess around when it comes to mariscos! I'm one picky eater and let me tell you, their plates never disappoint! From the smallest appetizers to their main dishes, they will leave your taste buds asking for more! If you are looking for a good marisco spot and a well welcomimy ambience then this is the place to go to! I have been to several locations in the area and nothing beats this place! Service is top notch, friendly, and unforgettable! Shout out to our host of the day, Shelya, welcoming, friendly, and informative. Our two managers of the day, Eduardo Francia and Daniel S, man let me say, these two guys know how to run a restaurant business based on their creativity and their service! And now to our server (waitress) of the day, Ariana, very welcoming, expert in the meñu, and depending how you are feeling she will recommend what your taste is looking for. What an awesome server, she is one hell of a great genuine waitress. Looking forward to my next visit. read more

From the moment I walked into Mariscos Choix, I knew I was in for something special. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful modern, clean, and inviting, with just the right mix of elegance and coastal charm. It's the kind of place that feels upscale without being pretentious. Perfect for a casual lunch or a special night out. The customer service was top-tier. Ariana was our waitress she is warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell they take pride in making sure guests have a great experience and they definitely delivered. Now, let's talk about the food wow. I ordered the tostada de pulpo con camarón, and it was next level. Fresh, perfectly marinated, and bursting with flavor. The octopus and shrimp were tender and seasoned just right, with that perfect balance of citrus and spice. For dessert, the flan de elote was a must-try. Creamy, sweet, and with that unique corn flavor that sets it apart from a traditional flan absolutely delicious and memorable. And don't sleep on the lemonade! Super refreshing, not overly sweet, and the perfect drink to tie it all together. If you're in or around Downey, Mariscos Choix should be on your list. Great vibes, amazing food, and truly exceptional service. Can't wait to go back! read more

First time visitors and let me tell you, If you're looking for authentic Mexican seafood with bold, fresh flavors, this spot is a must-visit. From the moment you walk in, the vibrant atmosphere sets the tone for a flavorful experience. The seafood is impressively fresh -- you can taste the quality in every bite. The shrimp ceviche was a standout: zesty, perfectly balanced, and generously portioned. The shrimp tacos were bursting with flavor, topped with crisp cabbage, pico and flavorful mayo that tied it all together. We also tried the tacos governador and they were delicious and the chipotle sauce add the right amount of flavor to it. But the start was the super campechana! It was a burst of bold, fresh flavors that truly captured the essence of coastal Mexican cuisine. The mix of shrimp, octopus, fish, an oysters and more, was perfectly tender and chilled, swimming in a zesty sauce with just the right balance of flavor. Service was friendly and attentive, and the staff clearly take pride in the food they serve. Whether you're a seafood lover or just looking to try something new, this restaurant delivers a fantastic fusion of Mexican tradition and coastal freshness. Highly recommended! read more

My brother in law ordered two fish tacos and she asked if we had any peanut allergies (he does) she let us know that the salsa they put on the side contains nuts. There was not 1 staff that didn't come to our table and ask if we needed anything so if you guys are looking for a place with good food, great service, great environment this is the place. We had such a great experience here, especially thanks to Joel! There was a pretty long wait when we arrived, but he immediately took care of us and made it feel worth it. He helped us get settled at the bar while we waited for a table and was super friendly and welcoming the whole time. We were able to order some drinks with him, and they were honestly so delicious. When a table finally became available, Joel personally walked us over and made sure we were comfortable. He let us know a server would be with us shortly to take our food order, which made everything feel smooth and organized. His positive attitude and great service really made the experience stand out. We truly appreciated how attentive and kind he was! Our server Karlen who took over after Joel was also very attentive and would come check on us frequently and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, the service truly made our experience stand out. Everyone was kind, attentive, and welcoming. We'll definitely be back! read more

Came here on Wednesday the place was half full or half empty which was good because we had wanted to come on the weekend but there was always a long wait time. I guess everyone is dying to try the new hip sea food place in town with grupo norteno and a cool patio. Anyways I'm giving two stars one for the cool patio and the other for the cold beer, the food to be honest was very a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10 you could give your kid directions on how to make you a fish ceviche tosatdas and I'm sure he or she can whip you out a better tasting one. The tosatdas where both mostly filled with bland tasting cucumber aka pepino. SMH. We also had the bacon wrapped shrimp and honestly had better ones at a burger joint near my house. Anyway if you want to wait an hour plus for this type of food go ahead just don't kick yourself in the ass saying I didn't warn you. If you want real authentic tasting seafood and live in O.C or close to it just go to calamar, mariscos mocorito or Playa azul. I'm out. read more

Outstanding Dining Experience at Mariscos Choix! We had the pleasure of visiting Mariscos Choix a few months ago during our trip from Houston, and it exceeded all our expectations! Our experience was made even more remarkable by the incredible service provided by our waitress, Itzel. She was attentive, friendly, and had excellent recommendations for our meal. Never a dull moment here. They upgraded the place and menu and every time I come here I have a great experience I went there with a few friends on a Saturday evening. Everything about this place is EXCELLENT! We got seated immediately after our whole party arrived and the service was great! The weather was warm so I was craving a Michelada and a Coctel de campechana(mixed seafood cocktail). Both of the items I ordered suited the occasion refreshingly, service was quick and staff is friendly and attentive, I did have a minor negative critique, I had a couple fries from my nieces left over dish and It was obvious they cook their fries in the same oil as they do their seafood, I personally didn't mind, but I know some folks that would definitely complain about it, so just a heads up folks. We recently visited this restaurant after seeing an Instagram video that made the experience look amazing, but unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to our expectations. The food itself was okay, nothing terrible, and the prices felt higher than what the overall experience justified. One of the biggest disappointments was realizing that what we saw online didn't match what was actually offered when we visited. It seems that certain menu items or presentations highlighted in their social media are only available on weekends, something that wasn't clearly communicated. This made the experience fell a bit misleading and left us whishing we had known ahead of time. The ambiance of the restaurant itself was great, we loved the way the plants were laid out throughout the restaurant and the music was a hit. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience but we may not visit anytime soon. read more

As a result of this experience, I will not be bringing my family back. I would encourage other families to be aware that their experience may vary depending on the time, crowd, and area of the establishment.

He made sure we were taken care of throughout our visit and was especially attentive during the birthday celebration. We really appreciated his great service and kindness. The mole was absolutely delicious, and the handmade tortillas made it even better. The combination gave the dish such a special flavor! Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely come back. Thank you, Alex, for taking such good care of us!

This place is only good for pictures TRULY. Asked for a limonada "lemonade" and an horchata and let…read moreme tell you HORRIBLE. Lemonade was acidic and maybe even expired to be honest. The horchata was just evaporated milk. We returned both and they tried charging at the end when the bill was asked for. We weren't the only table returning drinks either. Food was bite size for full price. DO NOT RECOMMEND. On the bill they up charge EVERYTHING! I got quesabirria tacos (4 count) they give you the smallest tortilla ever for one and second the plate comes with a side bowl of consome and they tried to charge me $4 for it even though it was never disclosed on the menu or myself when ordered. My brother in law got enchiladas and asked for chicken as the meat and they charged $22 for the plate PLUS THE CHICKEN ($4) when I confronted the waiter, he just said "oh I can just remove that" ??? SO HE WAS AWARE OF THE CHARGE AND ASSUMED I WOULD NOT NOTICE? DO NOT COME UNLESS YOU WANT TO EAT HORRIBLE BITE SIZE FOOD FOR FULL PRICE!

Enchiladas de mole were okay, the mole could be better, it was a bit too thick, and shredded chicken was flavorless and dry. The horchata wasn't authentic at all. Service is good, they are attentive, and the place seems clean. Lots is seating, during the week at least. I'm giving them a 3 star because although food wasn't great, it also wasn't horrible, and for the price I was just expecting more flavor. Sadden to say, I won't be coming back.
