We came here as a group of 6 people, us and two other couples. We were sat in a nice booth, secluded a little bit out of the way near the bar. Our waiter, Jeff, was amazing and made an excellent champagne suggestion. He was also helpful in giving us suggestions of where to head after dinner. The place was busy on a Friday night, but we had made reservations, so we didn't need to wait. We split two Burrata plates and the Calamari, each was delicious and a good portion size. My partner ordered the Bow Tie Pasta, which was good, but was better the next day. The portion sizes are very generous, so you will definitely have leftovers if you get a starter and main or main and a dessert. I ordered the Caprese Salad and Minestrone soup since I wasn't as hungry, both were tasty and simple. This wasn't the best Italian food I've ever had, especially in Chicago, but the atmosphere, energy, and level of service were phenomenal. This restaurant is very close to my current apartment and it's taken me a long time to actually get food from here LOL. We made a reservation for 5:45 and got seated immediately but it took us 15 minutes to actually get served... I had to go up to a waiter and ask him if we were going to be served because we were just waiting there . slightly frustrating since we were on a time crunch We ordered the bruschetta, Margherita pizza and ravioli. Bruschetta was good, nothing special honestly. The ravioli was really good but definitely not worth $23... And the pizza was average at best. Overall, 3 stars. My boyfriend and I live in the building across the street and have never tried this place. After the recent snowstorm, we really wanted something easy and romantic for dinner, and made the mistake of ordering takeout from here. We got the minestrone soup, rigatoni Roma, and margarita pizza. The best thing was the soup, which was only okay. The pizza was served on a crust that was so thin and papery/crunchy it tasted like cardboard. It was topped with what looked like canned diced tomatoes and no fresh mozzarella. I'm pretty sure I ate a similar pizza growing up that my parents bought frozen from Costco. The pasta was not as bad, but overcooked and bland. The sausage tasted like the kind you buy from ModPizza as a topping. The pasta sauce was honestly bland and just tasted like cream- one of the worst vodka sauces I have ever eaten. This neighborhood favorite HITS THE SPOT in your heart that you didnt know needed filling. Moments after we were seated, we were greeted by complimentary bread service and Mario himself. Service was efficient, but not rushed. We started with the mussels which were steamed to perfection in a bed of spicy red sauce. For our entrees, we ordered the Rigatoni Roma and the Veal Marsala. The pasta was perfectly creamy and sweet with delectable bites of mozzarella cheese. The veal was thin and light. Solid Italian spot in the Gold Coast. Came here for dinner this week and had a great time. I will say the ambience is pretty dark inside. I'd be curious what it is like sitting out in the tents they have set up. I did feel a little stuffy but I think the food made up for it. I ordered the Italian chop salad and added grilled chicken to it and was stuffed by the end, which is pretty surprising. The other person I was with ordered the raviolis, which also looked very good. At the end of the night I also had an espresso, and the other person had a gelato which looked awesome. The food was really good but the place was a little out-of-the-way for me, so I don't know how often I'll be back. If I'm around the area though, I would try it out again . read more

The food is overpriced the calamari was almost $25 and it was rubbery and they gave us about five pieces that look like octopuses and you couldn't even eat it so it was also a waste like extremely chewy calamari. My item was literally almost $30 , three french fries and a skinny piece of chicken breast that looks like it had been beaten with a hammer it was grizzly all around the edges and the center was rubbery and barely had any meat. It was supposed to be chicken breast with sweet peas and roasted potatoes and then I got that garbage instead I thought I was going to get a big plump juicy piece of meat for that price save your money please do not come to this place. The whole place was vibey, I put in my reservation to have a table in the corner because we had our children with us and didn't want to disturb people, they set us straight next to someone on a long bench a couple in the corner who actually looked surprised that they sat us next to them when every other seat in there was empty so it was very intentional. I also requested the details that asked if there was an occasion and I put that it was our anniversary none were acknowledged nor honored. So if you're looking for a place that it's going to fill you up stay away from this place because they serve disgusting undercooked chicken the restaurant itself dishes were dirty when they set them on to the table in front of me they sat us with a couple who were clearly on a date night like literally back to that side to side we had no wiggle room and we have children with us. If you sense energy like I do you would very well do best not to come to a place like this because these people are out to try it. read more

We came here a couple of years ago and had an amazing meal. Came back tonight and it's still great. We didn't have a reservation but were seated quickly. Our wine, a Chianti, was tasty, as was the calamari appetizer. We skipped salad, but other tables had them and they looked great. Had the pasta Diavola on the server's rec. it was piping hot and delicious with lots of seafood. Hubby had a chicken piccata and it looked amazing. (I am terrified that there's a 2-piece chicken option cause that thing was huge!). He reported it tasty. The salted caramel affogato was as delicious as it was 2 years ago - our server then recommended it and I am forever in his debt. The place got a little noisy toward the end of our meal, but everyone was clearly having a good time and enjoying their meals. First off, the food was pretty horrible at best. But here's the thing... the owner yelled at us because we used a stroller at the table.... As if the stroller in and of itself was offensive somehow... like we were trying to be disobedient rather than the fact that my two year old nephew needed to sit in it. I just moved to the neighborhood. I made a reservation for 9 o'clock at night with my husband and my one year-old baby. My baby wasn't able to sleep so we thought a little late night dinner might make us feel all better. This restaurant is going against the Covid-19 regulations and is sitting people inside. It says window seating so I went in. I was seated maybe 5 feet away from another table with 2 women talking without masks. (Oh, the maitre d did open the window next to me about 2 inches and then put a plexiglass piece in the window to "make the air blow up". I didn't understand what the purpose of that was for. I think wind blowing straight in would be more effective, but I am not a physicist.) I was too tired and hungry to use my better judgment. I should have just asked if I could sit in the other room where there was no one. (By the way, there were 2 tables back to back with women talking at both. There was a piece of plexiglass between the 2 tables about 3 feet high, which does practically nothing. When I got my food, I took a bite and then put on my mask to chew. I did this the entire dinner, stupid me. I ate as fast as I could because the 2 women about 5 feet away from me were chatting away with no masks on. I don't know why I didn't have the presence of mind to move. Now I am worried that since the 2 women weren't wearing masks, I might have contracted their germs. Hopefully they were not Covid-19, but I won't know that for another week or so. I am really angry that this restaurant is going against the Covid-19 regulations by seating people inside and so close together. Even on Division street filled with younger adults, they are all outside. I would report them if I knew where to report them. I hope by reading this review you will stay away from this place. I am also mad at myself for not being more assertive, but that isn't their fault. read more

I love Italian and I've tried my fair share of Italian places by now. I had a dinner date with friends and I had been trying to make reservations at this other Italian place, but they have been completely booked every time. Then, I fell upon Mario's Table. It looks a little run down from the outside, but I'd say it just adds to the charm. It definitely gives authentic home made Italian. We ordered sausage and peppers for starters, lasagna, pesto cream gnocchi, and chicken giambotta for the entrees. The sausage and peppers were good, but nothing special (maybe not something I'd order again). I personally got the gnocchis and they were so delicious. My only critique was that it came in a pool of oil. This was not a huge issue for me because pesto is oil based, but can be a turn off for some. We ended the night with some tiramisu, which was also very tasty. I would've liked it to have more cream layers, but still very good. The restaurant was more on the louder side than I would like, but our server was very friendly. Overall, quality of the food was excellent and I would definitely come again. read more

As a result of our interaction tonight. I will probably never return. The owner is a disrespectful A-hole. I live in the neighborhood and have been eating there 2 or 3 times a month. Tonight, I brought my grade school age grand kids. The first incident the kids had to go to the bathroom. They were standing in the aisle waiting for me to get up. He comes by and reprimands then for blocking the wait staff. They had probably been standing for 20 seconds. The second incident we were leaving and the 7 year old dropped his toy in front of the hostess station. He immediately walks over and starts yelling that they are blocking customers. The whole interaction took less than a minute. I love the staff. They are kind, generous, and always good for a conversation. It is really sad because it is a "Cheers" kind of place.
